Not recognized by windows- very slow to charge

The other day my iphone 4 all the sudden couldnt connect to the computer via usb.
- the closest thing to recognition it in "device manager" it thinks its an mass storage device with no found driver
-I have tried varous cords and docks, but the battery charging icon does not appear
- if i leave it over night connected to the computer, it does have a full charge my morning (so far)
- i reinstalled itunes and I would assume drivers- but the apple mobile device isnt even listed in device manager and itunes does not see it
I guess I havent tried to reset the phone or recover or whatever the original settings. Could it be a faulty dock connector on the phone?

Wow! Thanks for the help. This forum's awsome!...any way I guess I figured it out myself. Seems that a new dock connector did the trick!

  • Plays & lights work but NOT recognized by Windows/iTunes & won't charge

It's a shuffle 512mb from a few months back and worked perfectly until last week. It continued to play as usual, but is no longer recognized when i plug it into ANY computer (i've tried about a half dozen)! I've followed every suggestion and recommendation from both the Apple Support and the discussion groups relating to my problem though it seems no one has experienced my specific ordeal. I am quite limited as it is not recognized by Windows. I tried searching for it as a "media device" but nothing. All the fucntions and lights work while playing, but there is absolutely no response when connected to a PC. When this charge goes, i'll be without my tunes!
    Any help...

if still no joy, it could be that your Touch is a goner. if it is still under warranty, you should plan a trip to the nearest Apple store.

  • Iphone 4 not recognized in Windows and won't charge

My iPhone 4 suddenly stopped charging via ANY charge medium, connected directly to USB port with adapter, via an iHome-like stereo, nor will it work in a wall charger. Also, neither a Mac (10.7) nor will a Win 7 computer with updated iTunes recognize it. Every time I connect it I get a message "USB device not recognized and has malfunctioned..." I have already changed the battery out (it was already out of warranty) still not charging or being recognized. Any help resolving this would be far more than appreciated!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!

Clean the iPhone charging port with a clean dry toothbrush. See it this helps. If still problem, clean port with toothbrush and some Isopropyll Alcohol. Clean especially the pins which are on top of the port mid-rib.

  • Ipod not recognized by windows, itunes, and will not charge with pc.

yesterday, when i went to sync some new music onto my 1gen nano, it did not work (duh). i plugged it in 3 times:
-1st, it displayed the "do not connect screen" for one second, and itunes flashed the screen it shows when your ipod is connected, but then the ipod disconnected itself after that one second.
-2nd, windows gave me a message saying the hardware could not be recognized.
-3rd, nothing at all happened, as has been happening each time i try to plug it in since then.
i've done the 5 R's .. and i've tried all the suggestions shown on posts that sound like mine, including these: Windows XP cannot detect an iPod.
USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date.
iTunes 7 doesn't recognize the iPod.
my ipod will charge when plugged into a wall charger, and it plays normally. also, my brother's ipod (2nd gen nano) is recognized by windows/itunes.

    Hello
I have been having nearly the same problem as Crashcup for the past month. Differences being I am operating with Windows Vista and my iPod is a 160GB Classic. I have gone through all the steps in the troubleshooting documents to no result. I attach my iPod and it is not recognized by Windows, iTunes or even in Device Manager. Not even as an "Unknown Device".
I know there is nothing wrong with the USB ports as two different external hard drives and a video game controller work perfectly fine through them. Same goes with the iPod itself; it continues to play and function normally, and is recognized by a charging device completely separate from my laptop. Just when attached to the computer there is no sign of it.
I am very frustrated that there is no further instruction with regard to what to do with an iPod Classic (as referred to by Crashcup: "...it says to take a photo with an iPhone, or a screenshot with an iPod touch or iPad. WHAT ABOUT THE IPOD CLASSIC????)
Any help would be much appreciated.l=

  • IPod not recognized by Windows / iTunes

    Hello,
I hope someone here can help. So far my first experience with Apple support has NOT been a positive impression.
I searched for info on this problem, but the other ones I see all seem to be related to freezing or battery issues.
iPod Classic 120GB, I don't sync very often, and just finished doing a bunch of cleanup in iTunes (album artwork, song info, etc.) and want to re-sync the pod.
When I connect to the PC with the USB cable, Windows doesn't seem to recognize the device, and it doesn't show up in iTunes.
It is charging through USB, however. The battery is fully charged.
I tried 3 different USB ports on the PC.
    Tried restarting iTunes.
    Tried restarting the computer.
Went to Apple support website, tried the troubleshooting assistant:
    Reset the pod.
*Had already tried different USB ports.
*Had already trired restarting the PC (Although it mentions checking for the latest software updates - I didn't do this. WHAT software updates should I look for? Device drivers? OS updates? WHAT???)
    Re-installed iTunes. (Was already at v 9.2.1.4)
*Did not try the restore. Reading the instructions, it appears that the iPod has to be connected to do this, and that's the problem -won't connect!
Also read something about disk mode. I set the iPod to disk mode, but it's not recognized that way, either. When connected by USB in this mode, the iPod screen still says "OK to disconnect".
I tried the link "iPhone, iPad, or iPod is not recognized by Windows".
I do not see the "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" anywhere in Device Manager. I suppose this is the problem.
However, continuing with the instructions, it says to take a photo with an iPhone, or a screenshot with an iPod touch or iPad. WHAT ABOUT THE IPOD CLASSIC?????
(These instructions also say to disconnect the device, but nowhere says when to connect it. Why do they put half-baked troubleshooting instructions on their web site???)
Is there anyone from Apple support on this list who can help? I believe the driver needs to be reinstalled somehow, but it didn'thappen when i re-installed iTunes, so how do I do this?
    Thanks
    Keith

  • 5th Gen Ipod not recognized by windows or itunes. Have tried it all. Any Ideas?

Hello everyone. I have a 5th generation Ipod I recently purchased that I'm having what seems to be an common issue. When I connect the ipod to my computer via USB, the Ipod is not recognized in windows or Itunes. Occasionally the Ipod will charge when connected but not always. Though this is the same for the old wire I used and the new one I purchased today. Even when shown charging the Ipod is not recognized and there is no noise that a device has been connected. I have tried the 4 R's (without Restore) which I can't do, chaninging the drive letter, disabling start up software, uninstalling and reinstalling all Apple Software. I have tried connecting to another computer and have gotten the same result. When I check the diagnostic screen on the ipod it shows that a usb cable is detected. I have upgraded all my driver software, disabled and reenabled them. I'm almost 3 hours from the nearest store so that it out of the question. I'm curious if anyone has any other ideas and will try anything you think might be the issue and fix. Thank you for time.

From my experience, the only way you're gonna get a PC afflicted with this disease to work with a 5th gen nano is to roll back to an earlier version of iTunes.  Those affected have been exhausted by this ongoing issue.  To update or not to update?  And I always say never update unless you have to, and turn off all that auto update mess!
I have two core2duo lappies running 32b vista.  My workflow dictates 32b fyi.  One is acer aspire running itunes v 11.1 (.0.126),  5th gen nano was originally formatted and works just fine on this machine to this day.  My other is the bigger badder lenovo thinkpad and the 5th gen will NOT mount using any version of itunes past 11.0 (.1.12)  Windows mounts it just fine.  itunes is not having it.  no shirt no shoes no service.
I have both a 4th and 5th gen nano.  The 4th gen works great on both machines, I even successfully tested it with the latest version (11.1.5) before subsequent deletion on the thinkpad!  Weird huh?  I think my next experiment might be to restore my 5th gen w/ a Mac and theeeeen plug it into PC itunez.
I'm at a loss on the thinkpad.  Scanned for intruders.  Cut the Lenovo bloat.  Executed system and reg maintenance.  Took down msconfig to a safe mode + itunes level to attempt to resolve possible sw conflicts but to no avail.  NO NO NO.  Every single dang port, every time on the thinkpad.  Has me feeling like others might get the same treatment by the next itunes update.  :|
    So in summary for me:
5th gen nano and thinkpad are a NoGo on 11.1^  last working version for me = 11.0.1
5th gen nano is working on an acer aspire 11.1.0  but no way in the world am I updating
4th gen nano is kicking 5th gen nano's @zz so what would make me want to buy a new ipod?

  • USB Device not recognized by windows

When I first plugged my iPod into my computer, it went through the whole recognizing new hardware thing. Installed the drivers, then said that the new device was ready to use. But then I get a message that says "Device malfunction, device not recognized by windows" or something to that effect. I only have 3 days to return this iPod...anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

I'm not very familiar with the Windows OS but try this tip I picked on the forum up a while back, hopefully it might help.
    1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click the System icon.
    3. Click the Hardware tab.
    4. Click Device Manager.
    5. Scroll down the list of devices to the Universal Serial Bus controllers
    6. Click the plus icon next to the Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    7. Double-click one of the indented USB Root Hub entries.
    8. Click the Power Management tab.
    9. Deselect the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option.
    10. Click the OK button at the bottom of the window.
    11. Restart the computer.

  • Ipod disabled & not recognized in windows 7 or itunes

My son disabled his ipod touch 4th gen trying to get into it, he planned to give it to his cousin so I just removed the device from his Apple acnt. However, it's still disabled & now not recognized in Windows 7 or by I-Tunes on any computer or usb we try, but it does charge by usb or wall charger. I am not super familiar with Apple products & need some advice if anyone has any. Thanks!

    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
    Also try on another computer

  • Ipon not recognized in windows or itunes

my ipod is not recognized in windows or itunes, but i have a shuffle that is able to be recognized. when i connect my classic to the computer it starts charging but that is it. i know there is a 5r repair but i have yet to do it bc if i have to reinstall itunes i am worried about my music and whether or not i will have to re-add all my music again manually. i have several thousand songs that i have all the artwork for and all song info poosible and it would just take forever. any help would be great. thanks.

I had the same problem just after downloading latest version of itunes. 5 r's didnt work. Device was recognized on my daughters's computer. I also got windows error saying new hardware would not work properly. I eventually got advice to update the ipod driver by going through start menu and'Control panel' (with a right) click and finding "ipod" under device manager. Right click on that and select update. Once it was done my ipod was recognized by both itunes and computer. Now seems to be working fine and no loss of library/music. Hope this may be of some use

  • Shuffle is not recognized by windows xp or itunes.

I have a ipod mini that is working wonderfully but when I tried to connect my son's shuffle - nothing happened. I have reinstalled ipod software & itunes, charged and reset the shuffle - everything I could think of. I am unable to restore it because it is not recognized by windows or the updater. The only thing that I can think of is to get a USB extension and see if that works. If anyone else has an idea to help me --- it would be greatly appreciated!!!!
    D.

Yea! I found the problem.....all I had to do was get the extension. The shuffle wasn't getting a good connection directly to the tower. The USB extension was the fix I needed and everything works the way it should.

  • Video ipod not recognized by windows at all

My new video ipod suddenly cannot be recognized by Windows. I'm not really sure what happened - one day I was able to plug it in and have iTunes automatically start and sync, and now whenever I plug it in I just get the message "do not disconnect." Also, the iPod is not recognized by Windows - doesn't even show up in "My Computer," though it does show up in "Device Manager" and in the "Safely Remove Hardware" dialogue.
What could be wrong? I already uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime and reinstalled them, to no luck. I also installed the new iPod system software 1.3 but also no luck. Finally, I uninstalled all of my USB ports and forced Windows to reinstall them, but that didn't work either. The first time I put in the iPod after that I got a dialogue box that it had recongized the new hardware and was installing the iPod, but nothing ever came of it.
However, both iTunes and my video iPod are fully functional, and I have taken VERY good card of the video iPod.
Any idea what could be wrong???

I tried it, setting it to E. It didn't work. Tried the same thing after setting it to disk mode and it didn't work. Just the same old BS about "Do not disconnect," but it isn't recongized anywhere on the system except for Device Manager and the Disk Management tool you mentioned. No acknowledgement from iTunes or in My Computer. Meanwhile both iTunes and my iPod work fine, but they can't communicate with each other.
I AM GOING INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have tried every trick in the book that I could possibly think of. Not only did I uninstall and reinstall iTunes, QuickTime and the iPod helper, but after I uninstalled them I COMPLETELY nuked them, eliminating every file and clearing extraneous references out of the registry. Then I reinstalled from the CD going by the instructions by the letter. I thought for sure it would work now but for some ridiculous reason it doesn't.
I am completely at my wits' end.................. What the heck can I do???
PS: I also have Linux installed in a secondary extended partition, which is on my hard drive but not counted as C. Not sure if that makes any difference.

Because I checked on Canon website for drivers and downloaded and run the drivers, but no solution for my printer at all.

Yes. I have the latest version intalled but this hasnt helped.
I thought it could be to do with the Shuffle not having enough of a battery charge.
So i plugged it into the wall charger and then tried this didnt work either.
It wont even play music for some reason. The only information I get in the earpiece when I turn it on is what the battery level is at.
