Not recognizing max resolution of 2560x1600- Dell UltraSharp U3011 Monitor

I just got a 30" Dell UltraSharp U3011 monitor. For some reason, my MacBook Pro is not detecting that the maximum resolution should be 2560 x 1600. I'm connecting the monitor to the laptop with a DVI cable and Mini Display Port to DVI adapter which the Apple Store rep said would give me the max resolution and best picture quality.
Any thoughts on what I can do to solve this?

Hello. I can confirm that CrypticGuru is correct. I bought this cable which fixed the problem (same cable he lists, straight from the source):
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10246&cs_id=1024606 &p_id=6007&seq=1&format=2
With this I now get beautiful 2560x1600 resolution on the u3011 and without the annoying audio error message from this other forum, where I cross-posted my experience:

I am not an image/video guy so I can't comment on color calibration, but it looks right to my eyes.

My plan was to use the the thunderbolt ports to the monitors DisplayPort plug. Can the 13" Macbook Pro drive 2 external screens @ 2560x1440 I'm happy to shut the macbook lid if necessary.
If the 13" can't do it, can the 15" model with it's discrete graphics card?

27 inch iMac to a 29 inch Dell Ultrasharp U2913WM monitor. What do I need to hook these two up?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
That monitor has got a lot of ports you can use. The easiest and cheapest way to connect the iMac to the Dell monitor is through a Mini DisplayPort cable, because you do not need any adapter.
Another way you have is to connect it through HDMI. In this case, you need a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable

  • Max resolution connecting to dell monitor

i am dumb so please pretend i'm your mom trying to set this up and asking the Q .  i have a 3 yr old dell 24" (DVI/VGA) monitor and i'd like to connect my 13" MBP to it.  i bought the 'mini displayport to DVI adapter' for my mbp and have connected to my monitor, but the max resolution i can achieve under displays is 1280 x 800 to the monitor, so beats the point of using the larger monitor.  and the res isn't too crisp either.
am i hosed?  if i buy a new monitor to connect to my mbp, can i get finer resolution (i.e. at least 1920x1200)?
or is the 13" mbp limited to 1280 x 800????

    System Preferences > Displays
    Mirrored or not?
When mirrored, you use a compromise between what the built-in screen wants and what the external screen wants. If you want to Mirror, you have hit your limit.
If you uncheck Mirrored, you get Extended Desktop, and the | Arrange | pane is added.
Using the arrange pane, you drag the little screens to represent how your real screens are on the bench. The mouse can move across the boundary between the screens and onto the other screen.
Choose the Display pane. You get a separate resolution setting FOR each screen ON each screen.

  • Mydaq does not recognized max

Hi. When I open the Daq Assistant on Lab View it gives me a "No supported devices found" message, the labView works just fine but it does not recognized the myDaq. And before It did worked, What can I do?

If you are using Measurement & Automation Explorer 5.0 or later, you could try resetting your configuration data by clicking the following menu option. It may solve your issue if MAX has been corrupted. Just a note, resetting your configuration data will clear any saved devices/scales you have.
Also, what operating system are you running?

  • Compressor not recognizing source resolution?

I'm having some problems with Compressor, whenever I import H.264 (1920-1080) to transcode to Apple pro res 422, Compressor only recognize the source as 720-480 I've tried different files but the same result? Any ideas are welcome. Thanks Dylan

There's nothing wrong with your QuickTime files. The problem is that Compressor uses a service called Qmaster to do its processing, and the link between the two is quite fragile.
First of all, go to the Compressor menu at the top of the screen and select Reset Background Processing. If that doesn't work, try this:

  • Dell UltraSharp U2713HM Monitor question

Newegg has a shell shocker deal in about 5 hours for this monitor at $549.99 US plus shipping ($7.59).  I have been lurking the hardware forum for some time waiting for the opportunity (cash) to build a proper editing system.
While that is not going to happen anytime soon, I do have a need for a new monitor.  A search of the forum shows that other UltraSharp models are generally accepted as a decent midrange monitor.  My main concern is the ability to calibrate it for use in the CS6 suite of products (using the proper calibration tools) for color accurate representation.  The main use would be for premiere pro.
If I have done this correctly, here is the Newegg link to the monitor.  The price shown is before the 2 hour window to purchase it begins.

    Thanks all for your input.

Thank you both for your input.  10 bit color (which I don't believe I need as of yet) and usb 3.0 capabilities aside, if you had to choose between a U2713HM or the older U2711 would one have a clear advantage with regards to accurate color correction/grading?
The older 2711 consumes more power and I have read that some people find the screen coating a problem for them while the newer 2713 has the same screen coating but appears to not be as "bad".  The price is about on par with each other as best I can tell?

  • Macbook Late 2011 and Dell UltraSharp 29"

Hi! I have a Macbook 13" Late 2011 and i'm about to buy a Dell UltraSharp 29" (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2414974,00.asp). I would like to know if my Macbook will be able to support the maximum resolution 2560x1080. Anyone knows if the Minidisplay Port is enough to support the res? Or should i buy an adapter? Thanks for your time guys.

The last MacBook was a mid 2010 even though it was made into 2012. It will support a max resolution of 2560x1600 on a second display. http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/specs/macbook-core-2-duo-2.4-white -13-polycarbonate-unibody-mid-2010-specs.html

  • Macbook not recognizing USB ports from external monitor.

I have a Dell Monitor hooked up to the VGA port and have several items (printer, external hard drive) hooked into the ports on the Dell monitor. My Macbook is not recognizing the things that are plugged into the monitor.
These ports were working at one point but when I moved my setup and had to plug everything back in I can't get the USB ports on the monitor to work.
Along the same lines...I tried connecting the monitor to my laptop with a USB cable (female port from back of monitor to male port on Macbook) along with the VGA port. This did not fix the problem but I just wanted to know (had my laptop been recognizing the ports) if this was even necessary.
Since this setup has worked before I'm thinking it is something small that I am missing but any help would be appreciated.

  • I WANT TO CONECT MY MBP TO MY Dell UltraSharp U2711 AT FULL REZ

My caveats;  These are not the only adapters that you can find.  I have a feeling that these may be of inferior quality and I suggest you find some that are first rate.  Too many problems occur using cheap connectors.  After all your MBP is first rate and deserves the best.
Length is dependent upon your environmental requirements.  What I selected here is in a format that should work.  I like this configuration because of its simplicity.  I use a Mini/HDMI adapter which connects to a separate HDMI cable.  Nothing wrong with that, but not as tidy.
    Ciao.

  • MacBook Pro not recognizing USBs on Dell monitor

I have a 2013 MacBook Pro running Mavericks 10.9.1. I recently purchased a Dell UltraSharp U2312HM 23" IPS LED LCD Monitor to use for some graphics work. I am using a port to miniport cable to connect and have had no problems setting and calibrating displays to work the way I want. My problem is that I am  now using the only 2 USB ports on the laptop for my mouse and keyboard. The monitor has 4 USB ports and when I plug any type of device into them (apple keyboard, flashdrive, mouse wireless antenna, etc.) the computer does not recognize them or even notice them. Can I get the USBs on the monitor to work? If so how? Thank you in advance.

one more point to add...i installed windows using bootcamp, and through windows the 2560X1440 resolution works. so its not a hardware problem either

  • Why are my PXI cards not recognized by Windows or MAX?

I have a PXI-1045 chassis connected to a PC through MXI-4.  When I turn the chassis and PC on with a PXI card in slot 2, the message "Windows could not load the installer for DAQDevice.  Contact your hardware vendor for assistance." appears, and the PXI card is not recognized (it is scene by Windows as an unidentifiable PCI Devices, though I have a DAQmx installed).
    More details:
    Windows XP
    LabVIEW 8.0 installed
    TestStand 4.0 installed
    Latest DAQmx 8.XX installed
    NI Scope installed
    NI CAN installed
MXI-4 PCI card installed in PC and recognized by Windows (as PCI-PCI bridge, and MXI-4 Device)
I identified PXI chassis 1045 in MAX and on subsequent boot up saw that MAX complained about pxisys or some other ini file (in the chassis status area of the screen) so I configured it as 'other' then put in the PXI-resorce CD and selected the ini file for PXI-1045, MAX no longer complains about pxisys and instead says the chassis is configured properly
If I have nothing but the PXI MXI-4 card installed in the PXI system and boot up the chassis then the PC, I get no errors
If I have a card in slot two (I've tried PXI-6509 Industrial Digital IO, PXI-2569 Relay Module, and PXI-5102 Digital Oscilliscope) and boot the chassis then PC, the message "Windows could not load the installer for DAQDevice.  Contact your hardware vendor for assistance." shows up when Windows boots and Windows sees a PCI Device but can't identify any drivers for it.

    Hello,
Can you post a screenshot of the problem? Are you switching on the chassis first or the PC? Please make sure that you switch ON chassis and then boot the PC. This typically happens when you have a corrupted installation.  I would suggest downloading the latest version of driver from here and re-installing it.
Please uninstall all the driver software from computer before installing the new software.
