'Not Responding' message when saving in CS5

Today is the first time i've had the chance to take my new CS5 illustrator out for a drive, and have found that more often than not, when I save the file i'm working on I get the 'Not Responding' error message appear. My system is a brand new Dell quad core, Q955- @ 2.83GHz with 8 GB RAM running Win7 64 bit.
The files i'm using are located on a network drive, and i'm wondering if this may be the problem. If i leave it go for a minute or two it rectified itself, but I find it a bit strange considering the software and hardware i'm running.
Any ideas where to start?

Since disconnecting the persistent mapped network drive, my issue has gone away. So far so good.
To  clarify my issue, I was intermittently seeing a 'Not Responding'  message in the title bar of Adobe Illustrator CS5 when attempting to  Save a drawing. Clicking File/Save would immediately show a wait cursor  (blue circle in Windows 7) and the Save dialog box would not appear.
Although the 'Not Responding' error would appear, my PC did not seem to  be busy doing anything (no CPU usage for the AI executable in Task Manager).
After doing some research on Google for hung applications in Windows 7 when Saving, I came across the following Microsoft link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313937
According to Microsoft, Windows 7, when Saving, first checks the availability of network resources (liked persistent mapped drives). Applications like MS Office can hang when attempting to Save if these network resources are not available. Windows 7 also does not seem to "get along" well with older versions of Windows (like Windows 2000 for example). The hung when saving issue can also be caused by a slow network connection to network resources.
In my case, I had:
1 - A slow link between the hung Windows 7 PC and a persistent (ie - reconnects at logon) mapped network drive.
2 - The network drive is also hosted on a Windows 2000 server (Windows 7 doesn't always play nice with Win2K)
After disabling the group policy that mapped this drive at logon time, my hung AI issue went away. I can still reach the drive through a shortcut on the desktop of the Win7 PC and that seems to work out fine. It was only when this resource was "mapped" as a shared drive that this became an issue for Windows 7.
Anyone having this issue should also check the possibility of losing your network connection to a shared resource (like the network card going into sleep mode due to power save options and thus breaking the connection to the network).
Hope this helps others.

  • CS5 - "Not Responding" message when saving large files??

For quite some time now, I have been getting a message in the Save Progress Bar Dialogue that says "Not Responding" .... after I start saving a file.  The progress bar will advance about 20%, then it will say (Not Responding) in the box.... and then it will disappear and the file will save.
It's very disconcerting to see this error pop up time-after-time when saving files.
I also get this error when opening certain files.
    Anybody else get this error?
The files may typically have several 'placed' files from Photoshop.... which is another topic and unresolved problem with Illustrator too.
    Anything to worry about??
    Thanks.
    Oh...
I have an Intel i7 with 12gbs of ram, a fast SAS boot drive, and plenty of bells and whistles in the 'power' department.

Have you already tried saving the file to a different location (maybe on the other drive)?

  • Firefox continually gives me a "not responding" message when I try to do anything

'''bold text'''A couple of days ago I upgraded to Firefox 4.0. Beginning yesterday, Firefox opens very slowly if at all and then gives me a "not responding" message if I try to do anything. I am running Windows 7

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref:Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • I get a "not responding" message when changing websites or webpages.

When I change to a different web site, or go to a different page withing a website very often in the upper left corner of my screen I see the message "Firefox is not responding" and my computer freezes up for a few seconds. Sometimes it freezes up for 30 seconds. This is extremely annoying. This happens quite frequently. I have tried re-installing Firefox, but the problem is still there.

  • Strange error message when saving Photoshop CS5 files

Once in awhile, and only with some files, I get the following pop-up message when I save an image that I've been editing in Photoshop CS5:
"The disk copy of <filename> was changed since you last opened or saved it. Do you want to save it anyway?"
Unless I'm missing something, this is the most idiotic message I've ever seen. OF COURSE I want to save it. And why? Because the file has changed.
Can anyone tell me why this message pops up and whether I need to do anything about it?
    Thanks!

The details shouldn't really matter. But OK: I'm running Photoshop CS5 on a 2010 iMac 3.06GHz i3 with 8GB of RAM and OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 installed. I save my files the old-fashioned way: Command-S.
I've been using Photoshop since version 1.0 and have never seen this message before. An explanation would be appreciated.

  • RH8 for Word gives "not responding" message when I try to add a hotspot

Good afternoon.  I have been trying to add a hotspot or jump to
RoboHelp 8 Word with no luck.  My computer keeps freezing and in a few minutes I will see that Word is "Not Reponding" on the blue bar at the top of the screen.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

    Hi there
Wow... it's been last century since I touched RoboHelp for Word, but I do recall that it involves using Word macros to work the RoboHelp Magick. Have you ensured the Macro Security has been relaxed for this? Is this the first time you have tried using RoboHelp for Word? Or was it working fine and suddenly stopped?
One other thing. What is your operating system?
    Cheers... Rick

None of my pictures that I uploaded into iPhoto are in my Finder under Pictures.  Should I copy and paste my folders from iPhoto into here, in case something happens to my iPhoto program (in addition to backing them up onto an external hard drive like I already do)?
No, that's just wasting space.  A back up needs to be on a different disk.

  • "not responding" message across the top of mozilla several times a day and my entire computer lags when I receive that message.

about two to three weeks ago mozilla started to lag on occasion with the "not responding" message across the top of the browser. it would freeze while i was playing facebook games or while i was watching youtube videos or just trying to scroll down a page, so i used my laptop less and less hoping the rest period would help stop it from lagging and from not responding. now that i have uninstalled useless programs and freed up hard drive space it is still lagging a lot. i even updated to 9.01 and updated the plug-ins that i use and it still lags.

Have you recently upgraded is so i suggest you run it in safe mode first.

  • "NOT RESPONDING" message whenever I start using my Windows Media Player

I don't know what it is that causes this - if it's something to do with having the lesser expensive Hewlett-Packard computers, but this is the 2nd HP laptop I've had and the one thing I've had in common w/both of them is that, one, I got them for under $500 - about $445 or so, w/tax...anyway, I suppose that the more expensive HPs are better and wouldn't have petty problems like this - but anyway, - the last one I had & this one I currently have - the last one was a Windows 7 and this one is Windows 8, so the O/S has nothing to do w/my problem.  Anyway, it's like this:  every time I turn on the PC, then get it all revved up & ready to go, etc. when I turn on my Windows Media Player (WMP) the thing comes up on screen and it sometimes takes a few seconds, since I have about 740 CDs worth of music on here, but anyway, once the CDs show up on the WMP album page (where they're put up in alpha. order of LP name, as opposed to artist names, etc) - and so, when I go from the "A"s downward, just paging through it, looking for something to listen to, for instance, it ALWAYS, inevitably, without fail, gets stuck, sometimes sooner, sometimes later, but usually by the time I get to the Cs or  Ds, the thing gets stuck and freezes up on me and I can't do anything w/it. Then, when I try to click the mouse a couple times or whatever, I get a message at the top of the WMP box - on the top of the box it reads "Windows Media Player", like usual, but when it freezes up like this and it stays stuck for anywhere from 10 seconds up to a minute sometimes, the message that pops up right next to the "WMP" label on the blue border reads "NOT RESPONDING".  99% of the time, it just takes a little patience and sometimes just clicking the mouse buttons a few times and/or hitting a few keys on the keyboard (not hard, just randomly pressing down on some) - then it will finally come back & unfreeze and I'm usually able to continue browsing through my catalog, but there has been other times when it seems to be in worse shape - it'll read "NOT RESPONDING" for a while and no matter how much I click the left or right mouse buttons, tap the mouse on the pad, or whatever, it might come unstuck for a few seconds, then, I think I'm OK again, but sometimes, as soon as it looks unstuck, I can't get it to move at all and right away the "NOT RESPONDING" message comes right back up (and the page fades a little too) - in fact, lately, just before I did a refresh thing on my PC to try & get things to work better, it was giving me big trouble, it would just sit there, stuck, frozen up and nothing I did would unfreeze it.  I'd be frantically trying to unstick it, but no matter what I did, it'd still be frozen and when it does that, I can't get it to do anything.  Recently, when it would do this, sometimes, if I had not tried to get too far down in the alphabet, I can get a certain album open and get it to start playing, but the "NOT RESPONDING" message will pop up now and again, but the music will play all right, uninterrupted.
Anyway, this is very annoying.  It's been happening for so long now, that I basically take it for granted that it's going to freeze up on me when I 1st bring it up.  I have no idea what's causing this to happen; like I said, this happened when I had a previous HP laptop that was working with Windows 7.
Kind of a long-winded way of putting this issue to anyone, but I just wanted to be clear and specific.
Is there ANYONE out there who owns a cheapo HP? (not a Compaq, the computer co. HP bought for that purpose, to make their cheap computers and differentiate them from the HPs) - But I wonder, it's been so long since I've even checked -does Compaq even exist anymore as a separate entity from parent co. HP?  If not, then that explains why there's a difference between HP laptops that are $400 or so (at Best Buy) and the more slick, expensive HP laptops that have all the bells & whistles and usually run over $1000.  Of course, I'm not about to shell out twice as much money to buy an HP just to see if the more expensive ones don't behave the way their cheap models do.  I also had a Toshiba I bought about 3-4 years ago and I had even more problems with that - one instance was when the CD drive went out on me and I had to ship it in to HP (still under warranty, thank heavens) and they put a new drive in and shipped it back to me.  It also crashed one time, and got infected with a virus or two or three, which meant I had to re-set the computer back to the original factory settings and, not having an external hard-drive with which to back up all my music, pix, documents, etc (my music is the most important stuff on my computer to me), which meant that I had to go through this long hassle of replacing all the music I'd lost. I have a lot of my own hard copies of CDs, but there were so many more CDs that I didn't have copies of, so I had to visit the library over & over, checking out as many as 25-30 CDs at a time on a lucky day, when the library had a lot of the CDs I needed to replace in my WMP.  I don't want this to happen again, so I am going to get an external hardrive but I still don't know for sure if that would work. At least, by resetting the PC to factory settings I was able to get rid of the virus(es) that were screwing my computer up badly
So - has anyone out there had any similar problems?  If so, I would appreciate any help or suggestions you may have as to how to deal with this sort of thing.
Thanks a lot.  Hope to hear from one of you out there in the future.
    Have a nice 4th...
