Not saving Sent or Draft emails

Help, I'm using 2 IMAP email acount in mail and it won't save any of my sent messages or drafts, even though I have the setting set to store them under the mailbox behaviors.
Am I missing something?
These are two new mail accounts I've set up, you'll see from my last two posts earlier there have been some othe issues, now thankfully resolved.
My preference would be for the mail to be saved on rthe server and of course appear in Mail app.
I also haver a .Mac email which does this fine.

You’re welcome.
So do you recommend that I typr INBOX in the IMAP preference box?
Yes.
Will it be enough to just do that now or should I delete and recreate the new account?
It doesn’t really matter. If you do it without re-creating the account, Mail may lose track of which mailboxes should be used for what, but you can fix that by just doing Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For again.
Would you look at this image of my Mailapp setup and comment please
The appearance of your mailbox list is normal except for the black triangle to the left of the IMAP Inboxes, which is a consequence of the INBOX prefix issue.
There isn’t a pre-defined Junk group with the brown bag icon probably because you have the junk filter set to something other than Automatic mode, which in turn explains why the Junk mailbox on the .Mac server appears as a generic folder.
The two Junk-named folders that appear there are a “glitch” caused by some changes made on the .Mac server some time ago. You can get rid of them if you want. Mail will create the one it needs when it needs to if it isn’t already there.
Here’s a more thorough explanation of how mailboxes are supposed to appear in Mail:
1. Instead of grouping mailboxes by account, Mail groups mailboxes by purpose first, regardless of whether they are stored locally or on the server, then groups by account the mailboxes that don’t serve a specific purpose in Mail. If you have more than one mail account, each has its own Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk mailboxes, which appear under the respective group showing the account name instead of the real name of the associated mailbox in the filesystem.
This has the advantage of letting you choose at any time, and independently for each mailbox, whether you want to look at your Inbox, Sent, Trash, etc. mailboxes as if you had just one of them shared by all accounts (i.e. an aggregate), or look at each of the corresponding individual mailboxes separately.
2. Each mailbox under a pre-defined group is associated with a mailbox in the filesystem whose name may or may not be exactly the same as the name of the corresponding mailbox group. By default, the name of the actual mailboxes in the filesystem associated with Sent and Trash, for example, would be Sent Messages and Deleted Messages, respectively.
3. The association between a mailbox in a pre-defined group and the actual mailbox in the filesystem is fixed for POP accounts, but can be changed for IMAP accounts by means of Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For or the corresponding Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors > Store messages on the server setting.
4. Mail may defer the creation of a pre-defined mailbox until actually needed to store messages there. Also, in some circumstances Mail may be unable to create or locate the actual mailbox in the filesystem (see #10 below for an example), but the association does still exist in those cases from a logical point of view, even though Mail may be unable to display or store messages there.
5. Each and every mailbox appears once and only once in the mailbox list, be it (1) under one of the pre-defined groups with an icon that conveys its purpose and the name of the account it belongs to (if you have more than one mail account), or (2) with a generic folder icon and the real name of the associated mailbox in the filesystem if it serves no specific purpose as far as Mail goes. Under no circumstances can the same mailbox appear both ways; it’s either one or the other, depending solely on whether it serves a specific purpose in Mail or it’s treated by Mail as a generic mailbox like any other.
6. By itself, the name of the mailbox is no indication of whether it serves a purpose in Mail. If it appears in Mail with a generic folder icon, then as far as Mail goes it’s a generic mailbox like any other, no matter what its name.
7. A mailbox with a generic folder icon can “disappear” and become associated with one of the pre-defined groups as a result of changing the corresponding Store messages on the server setting in Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors or doing Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For on it (server-stored IMAP mailboxes only). This, in turn, would cause the mailbox being previously used for that purpose to become dissociated from the corresponding group and “appear” as a mailbox with a generic folder icon.
8. In addition to the account-specific mailboxes that appear with the account name under each of the pre-defined groups, Trash and Junk may also have an “On My Mac” mailbox. This is where messages deleted or marked as junk are moved if they were previously stored in a custom “On My Mac” mailbox or in a locally stored mailbox associated with an IMAP account (i.e. a mailbox for which Store messages on the server has been turned OFF in Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors).
9. Generic mailboxes that don’t serve a specific purpose as far as Mail goes (i.e. mailboxes that appear in Mail with a generic folder icon), appear below the pre-defined groups. In principle, “On My Mac” mailboxes (i.e. locally stored custom mailboxes) would appear as top-level folders, whereas server-stored mailboxes would appear grouped under a globe icon for each IMAP or .Mac account. However, if there is no need to differentiate between “On My Mac” and server-stored mailboxes (e.g. because you only have one IMAP account and no custom “On My Mac” mailboxes), Mail will display the server-stored mailboxes as top-level folders instead, just as if they were “On My Mac” mailboxes.
Note: In Mail 1.x, generic mailboxes always appeared grouped, never as top level folders. “On My Mac” mailboxes, in particular, appeared under their own On My Mac group. In Mail 2.x, this changed to offer greater flexibility in how the user wants his/her custom mailboxes to be organized — see Mail Help’s “My mailbox organization was lost after upgrading Mac OS X” article. This allows the user to have multiple top-level “On My Mac” hierarchies, for example.
10. Some IMAP accounts use a NAMESPACE feature that Mail doesn’t handle properly and that causes server-stored mailboxes to appear as subfolders of the account’s Inbox, even though they really aren’t — see “Can't create folders, only subfolders of INBOX” in the Courier FAQ, for example. Those IMAP accounts require INBOX to be put in Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > IMAP Path Prefix for Mail to handle them properly.

In MS Outlook 2010 Add in Create pdf- does not create pdf of draft emails- this maybe the case, but just wanted to make sure this is normal for the program- though I guess one can print as an Adobe pdf but it does not maintain the hyperlinks of email addresses etc. the functionality is compromised in a print vs create a pdf.

Here's a workaround by the team:
Right click on the message from Explorer list view or folder view and chose the option to convert to PDF.

  • Outlook 2010 not saving Sent emails in Sent Items Folder

This problem does not exist on this forum.  Using Outlook 2010 (V 14.0.7106.5001 (64-bit) on Windows 7 64-bit with three accounts: 1 account is Gmail and 2 accounts are IMAP.  The IMAP accounts inexplicably stopped saving Sent emails.  The
Gmail account still saves the Sent emails.
    Tried already:
    1. Changing the Sent Items setting from Save on folder on computer to Save on server and then changed back to the way it was, which is correct.
    2. Created a new profile and entered the email settings.  Still no sent mails being saved.
    3. Ran Outlook repair.  No luck.
Not sure where to go with this next.  Never have run into a problem like this before.

    Hi,
Please make sure you have the emails sent to the recipients successfully, if not, the emails may be saved to other folders if you have the following setting:
File tab -> Options -> Mail -> If you checked
Automatically save items that have not been sent after this many minutes,
Save to this folder, you may have your emails stored in the selected folder if the emails are not sent successfully.
Please visit the Webmail site, could you find the sent items there?
Try Reset View, then try to search for the sent emails by keywords in Advanced Find, can you find the emails?
    Kindly check the following settings:
File tab -> Options -> Mail
-> under Save messages, make sure you have checked Save copies of messages in the Sent Items folder
If none of the above helps, feel free to contact me again.

  • Mail not saving sent email

This just started on March 12, no apparent reason that I can find.  The account is a POP, preferences are set to never delete.  Kind of annoying! Thanks for any suggestions...
    OS 10.6.8, Macbook Pro 2.33  Mail 4.5 (1084)

My primary email account is IMAP and I have just found what I suspect are all the messages that were not saved in my "sent" folder either on my iMac or ISP server. They were in the "Sent" folder of my secondary, little-used Hotmail account and the recipients "saw" these as originating from this account rather than the one from which I actually sent them. After some testing, I discovered that, for my primary account, the "always use this server" box was not checked. I surmise that, if the Mail app has trouble using the server associated with my primary account, it simply uses the Hotmail server (this would be consistent with the delay before hearing the "whooshing"noise). What does surprise me is that, if this Hotmail server has been used, the recipient sees the message as originating from Hotmail. Is this what is supposed to happen?

  • Mail not saving sent messages

I've noticed that Mail is not saving my sent messages. I started to notice this yesterday. It's very erratic though. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. I have the option selected in preferences to Store Sent Messages on the Server (my .mac account).
Any idea what is going on? I even checked my .mac Sent Mesages folder using WebMail and they're not there either.

    You're welcome.
With a .Mac or IMAP type account, you can save Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages on the server instead of locally on the hard drive.
Messages in a .Mac or IMAP type account's Inbox mailbox remain on the server until deleted from the account's Inbox mailbox or moved from the Inbox mailbox to a user created "On My Mac" mailbox or deleted from the server using webmail access.
You can also create additional mailboxes that will be stored on the server.
Messages in the account's Inbox mailbox and in any other mailboxes stored on the server are synchronized with the Mail.app and with other email clients.
With POP type accounts, received/incoming messages are downloaded by the Mail.app and by other email clients. You can choose when messages are deleted from the server when downloaded by the Mail.app and by other email clients but you cannot store Drafts, Sent, Trash or Junk messages on the server or create any additional mailboxes that are stored on the server.
A .Mac or IMAP type account is beneficial for those who access their email account with multiple computers and want to keep all mailboxes for the account synchronized on each computer.
For example, you have a Desktop at work but also travel with an iBook or PowerBook. If you have a .Mac or IMAP type account and select save Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages on the server in Mail on both Macs, all mailboxes for the account will be kept synchronized in Mail on both Macs. Messages sent with the iBook when traveling will be available on the Desktop Mac in the office and vice-versa.

  • IPhone 4S suddenly not saving 'Sent' mail items - help

When I send emails from my iPhone (on any account) it does not save the 'Sent' email.  However, when I send it from my desktop, the emails will appear in my sent folder.  I know recipients are getting the email - however there is now no trace of me having sent it.  If I reply to a message it will also not show the 'replied arrow' even if it sends and the person receives it.  I am finding this incredibly frusterating.  Everything worked perfectly until this past Friday - now all of my communication from the weekend and beyond is not saving.
I have reset my phone, deleted and reconfigured all of the mail accounts on my phone.  I can't think of what else to do.

Okay, now that I am looking back through my sent folder, it seems like ALL of the sent items are missing. They were there last week - I remember searching through them to find an email to resolve an issue.  I use my phone for mail for my work.  This is unacceptable.

  • Packaging data is not saved in document draft (missing functionality)

    Dear all,
Packaging data, usually typed with delivery note, is not saved together with Delivery Note draft (No matter the draft is saved manually or automatically by approval procedure).
I have tested on SBO 2005B latest patch, 2007B latest patch, and 8.8 version, they all do not save packaging data in draft.
The draft related tables for packaging (DRF7, DRF8) are already existed in SBO, I encourage to get this missing functionality back.
My customers are highly needed for this function for better operation flow.
It would be appreciated if this request could be implemented in the near future patch.
    Thanks in advance

Have also just discovered that this functionality is missing, although we were going to be using it when saving an AR Invoice as Draft. This is a major hole and is going to cause a big issue for a current implementation where this method was going to be used to create 'Split Deliveries' without making the account postings and allow Despatch paperwork for the Shipping company to be printed. The solution was going to be extremely simple, but now potentially is going to result in a substantial SDK development.
It would be useful to know whether there is any likelihood that it will be resolved in the near future, i.e. in a patch for 2007A SP1 or 8.8.

Yes, I am being asked to "Include" the attachments, and I click the Include button.
I see the images in my message to be forwarded just before I send it, but the recipient does not get the images.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

Recently I've had a problem with my iPhone 3Gs when I forward an email that contains graphics. The graphic is fine on my iPhone but when it arrives the picture is missing. I am selecting 'include graphics'.
    I've re-booted - no change.
I've restored from a backup - no change.
I've restored without using the backup - no change (other than I lost a couple email accounts etc.)
    Anybody got any other suggestions?
    TIA

I have been having the same issue since late September and been in touch with Apple support since. First they said they had no other reports on it so it was my phone. I started checking and found many other with the same issue. I called back and finally in November I was told they were aware of the issue and was working on it. The first week of January I called again and was told the update first week of February was going to correct this. I did the new software update and guest what....IT STILL DOESN'T WORK!!! It is now February 14th and I am on the phone once again for the same issue that was known back in October 2009. I am paying $30 for data plan that I can not utilize 100%. My question after being patient for 5 months is who is going to refund me a portion of my data plan? Apple or AT&T?? This is a software problem that really needs addressed. Apple just releases an iPAD and can't correct this email issue??

  • Emails composed using the "new message" in the Get Mail add-on do not get sent until default email account is opened.

Had this add on before using Outlook Express - worked really well. Now using Office Outlook and find that emails do not get sent until I open up the email program. Read the FAQ here http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Changing%20the%20e-mail%20program%20used%20by%20Firefox and followed instructions but has not fixed the problem. Any suggestions? Whatever the reasons are that you think the problem exists, you will not be able to resolve it on your own. Did you see this at the bottom of the support article that I suggested that you read?

  • Archiving/ Saving sent and received Emails in Mac Mail???

    Hello.
I want to switch web hosts, and before doing so I want to save/ archive all of my past sent and received emails.
Is there a way to do so?
I know I can use gmail, not exactly sure how to do so but I bet it's not real hard, but I am wondering if there is a way to actually take all of the emails from my webmail and save them offline? Does Mac Mail do this? Can I save them as files? There are literally thousands of emails, so a way to save them to my local drive would be ideal....
    any ideas?

You can create a New Mailbox to correspond with each Inbox and Sent mailbox, and then Copy the messages into those. At that point you can have a copy of each message in both the Inbox/Sent and the On My Mac mailboxes.
However, if your email address will stay exactly the same (is associated with a hosted Domain) then you may be able to merely change the name of the Incoming server in the Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information and continue with the same accounts. This might not be workable because of the inexactness of when you old/new Host swap responsibility. If not, then remove each original account, set each one up again in conformity with info from your new Host, and then move the messages from the the On My Mailboxes you created above, into the corresponding Inbox and Sent of the new accounts.

  • Email not being sent to certain email domains

    Hello,
My friend has a new MackBook Dual Core and is having problems with email sending. There are certain email domains that do not receive her emails.
They are being sent, just never arrive at the destination.
Has anyone had the same problems or is aware of this issue?
    Thanks!

This problem has nothing to do with her hardware or the Mail application.
If a message cannot be successfully sent for whatever reason, it will remain in the Outbox mailbox and not be sent.
A message moved to the account's Sent mailbox indicates the message was successfully sent by the SMTP server used to send messages with the account but is no guarantee the message will be delivered to the recipient's incoming mail server or be accepted by the recipient's incoming mail server.
Generally, this type of problem is at the recipient's incoming mail server - the recipient's incoming mail server may be blocking all messages received from the domain for the sender's email account/address (the portion of the email address after the @ sign or blocking a range of IP addresses for which the sender is included, etc.
The next place to check is the provider for the sender's SMTP server used to send messages with this account which is usually the email account provider but not always.
My .Mac account is my primary email account but I use my ISP's SMTP server to send messages with my .Mac account when connected to the internet at home - not .Mac's SMTP server.

  • Not Saving Sent Messages Locally

I have had this same problem for ages! I can't stand it! I need records kept of all messages I send! This used to be fine! A year or so ago, maybe about the time I upgraded to Panther, Mail 1.3.11, no Mail settings changes from me, Sent messages were being still stored in the Sent folder, but not the content - the attachments or text.
I only have a POP account, and the 'erase copies of sent messages' option is set to NEVER. Mail seems to think the 'save copies on server' option is on - not possible for POP. So browsing the Sent folder gives the error
'The message from Mike Bird <[email protected]> concerning “Re: Vacancy - Data Manager” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.'
The program shouldn't be fishing for non-existent serverside message copies. These should be saved locally, as they used to be! I've tried setting up the account again, but all is correct. Where is the bug? I need my records kept...
    Thanks

Looking at other posts in this forum would have revealed that this is a known problem. It’s even documented here:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
The “solution” suggested in that article, however, wouldn’t have worked in your case because the mailbox was already way too big for Mail to be able to do anything with it.
Although Sent Messages.mbox appears to be a file, it’s actually a special kind of folder (a package) that contains several files. Ctrl-click on Sent Messages.mbox and choose Show Package Contents from the contextual menu to see the files it contains. Of these files, mbox is the most important and is where all your messages are stored.
Since the mailbox is too big for Mail to be able to handle it, you’ll have to break it into smaller pieces. You can do that using the MBOX Breaker Script available at Allan Sampson’s website, or with Emailchemy.
If they aren’t too big, mbox files can be imported back into Mail doing File > Import Mailboxes and choosing Other / Standard mbox or something like that as the data format.
