  • HT201269 itunes cannot see my iphone backup.  I have a backup of the backup on an external HD, but even tech support cannot figure this one out.  I copy and paste backups into the correct folder but itunes still does not see it.  All I need are my contact

Sorry for short novel I am writing.  I just wanted to cover as much backround as possible.
So, here it goes.  I backed up my iphone 4 after renting a movie.  The movie only played the starting credits before I was called on for daddy duty.  A few days later the movie would not play, so I restored my phone from my backup.  The movie would still would not play so itunes support refunded my purchase and ended my viewing privileges for that rental after verifying that I had not viewed the movie.  I then had a problem with my contacts showing up twice in the contacts list after the restore.  So I attempted another restore.  All was well at this point.  I then started having trouble with my pc and decided to copy the internal drive to an external source.  A week later I had a system failure and did a factory restore on my computer.  I re-installed itunes and tried to copy and paste the old backup into the new itunes.  Now itunes just flat out does not see the backup file (I failed to mention that I did a factory reset on the iphone after the last backup, hopping to start fresh).  Tech support had me uninstall and re-install itunes and then copy and paste the old backup into the newly installed itunes with no luck.  The files are all there, but itunes just doesn't see them (itunes says the device has not been backed up to the cloud or to the local machine).  We then tried backing up the factory restored iphone and replacing that restore file with one of my old backups on the external drive.  Ok, this is where it gets weird.  We replaced the guts of the folder but left the folder itself so itunes would continue to recognize the new backup folder with the old files.  Whoohoo, itunes now see's a backup folder full of old files, or so we thought.  The new files were deleted using shift delete so they would be gone for good and not mix with any files or folders.  When I restore my phone, it restores the files that were deleted from the restore file (pause here for a moment and imagine the stupid look on the face of tech support and I while we silently wonder how files that were permanently deleted were restored).  This left tech support and I both scratching our heads.  My service issue was escalated to the next level.  I waited for the phone call the next day that was scheduled at 10am to my wife's phone, but the call never came through.  As usual, apple disappoints again.  I just bought an iphone 5s and still have the iphone 4, and am looking for a solution to retrieve my contacts and restore to the 4 or 5s.  I am guessing that files in other folders must be associated with the iphone backup in order for itunes to retrieve the files.  Any ideas or support in retrieving my contacts would be greatly appreciated.

I purchased an audiobook in Nov 2012 using iPhone 4S and then upgraded to iPhone 5 in Dec. Now I am not seeing the audio book in purchase history in iTunes. This means I am not able to get the book in my new iPhone. Please help.

Audiobooks are currently a one-time only download from the store. If you don't have it on your computer (audiobooks go into the Books part of your iTunes library) nor on a backup, then if it's still in the store you can try contacting iTunes support and see if they will grant you a re-download : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

The other sections of the iTunes store seem to have errors as well.

I've seen a couple of other threads in the last 10 minutes posting about problem with the store, both have now replied saying that it's working again for them - you could give it another go and see if it's now ok for you

    - i updated my iphone 4 software on my other itunes library that is on my other user account on my laptop. my ringtones are not on my phone now but i see them in my library, but my phone is not synced to that library. how can i get my ringtones back without having to sync my phone to the library where my ringtones are and possibly lose everything on my phone ?

From my post on what seems like the same issue (found here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/21087892#21087892)
    Take the following steps:
    1) while connected to wifi, toggle off then back on the Show All Music and iTunes Match options shown in my original post. Important: I did this step before, but wasn't connected to wifi, and my music disappeared. Subsequently, I connected to wifi and turned off and then back on those options and everything came back though it was grayed out and my only option was to download music.
    2) To get streaming over cellular back, go into Settings>General>Cellular and scroll down to the "Use Cellular Data for:" options and make sure the iTunes option is set to 'On'
The above steps will bring back the streaming capability which seemed to go away when you update to 6.1. It didn't ACTUALLY go away, but something about the update toggled off the iTunes option in step 2 above.
I did a final test by turning off wifi, opening Music app and selecting a song. It played successfully without downloading! Crossing my fingers, but I think I'm good to go!
    Hope this helps!

  • Itunes not detecting, seeing, recognizing iphone on ios 7

Putting this question up in iPhone forum, seeing as over 100 people saw my post in itunes section and, I'm assuming, can't help.
    Running 7.0.4 on iPhone 4S, Windows 7 64-bit with iTunes 64-bit version of 11.1.3.
iPhone was previously detected by iTunes prior to update.
A second iPhone 4S running iOS 6 is consistently detected without any problems.
I have already tried all solutions given on this support page (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538) to no avail.
In device manager, no x or ! shows up.
    iTunes already on latest version.
Tried multiple USB cables, all genuine. Tried multiple USB ports, all working but iPhone still doesn't show up.
Apple Mobile Device Support is definitely installed. Tried reinstalling AMDS and iTunes. Tried restarting AMDS. No good.
Tried installing driver from Common Files directory.
No software changes between iOS 6 and iOS 7 update. No possibility of third party software conflict.
Note: was able to restore the iPhone to 7.0.4 from 7.0.2 on my MacBook Pro so there's nothing wrong with the phone or cable. This is not a viable long term option for me, since the MBP is a work computer.
Please help if you know of any solutions.
    Additional notes:
    - already tried http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363?viewlocale=en_US and it was no good.
Did a diagnostics test on iTunes. This first screenshot is BEFORE I plug in the iPhone.
After plugging in the iPhone and trusting the computer (this trust popup, by the way, continuously comes up EVERY TIME I plug the iPhone into the computer. Stopped popping up after the first time I plugged into Mac but it comes up EVERYTIME on Windows), I get the User Account Control popup asking for permission. I click Yes. See the difference in following screenshot:
    Please help!

    Hi oxman78,
That definitely sounds frustrating! Let's give this a go to see if we can isolate the issue futher:
First, connect your device and choose the "Music" tab. Next, uncheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes (so there is ultimately no music syncing to your iPhone).
Once you have done that, recheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes once more. This will instruct iTunes to completely remove all music from your iPhone, and then copy the files once more. If you have a large amount of music, this initial sync may take a while.

  • TS1500 Windows does not recognize the iPhone as existing, though iTunes can see it.

Windows does not recognize the iPhone as existing, though iTunes can see it.

I found a webpage where a user reported the same issue as me.
He said he determined that "foreign pictures" -- meaning any pictures not taken using the iPhone's camera -- were the cause. Once he deleted the "foreign pictures" -- such as pictures obtained from receiving texts from others which included pictures that he saved onto the iPhone, then iTunes worked.
In my case, the fix was to upgrade the iPhone's OS from 5.1.1 to the latest version.
    Now, both issues are solved:
Windows recognizes the iPhone as a storage device.
iTunes can see pictures that I've saved on the iPhone.

  • Itunes not syncing with iphone & apple tv not seeing itunes

Recently installed itunes 10.4, now itunes wont sync with iphone and apple TV 2 cannot see itunes on a wired network.  The error message says Apple Mobile Device has not started - confirmed that apple mobile device did start.  With upgraded itunes apple tv cannot see the itunes library on a wired or wireless network.
Reinstalled itunes several times now, and nothing changes.  Using pc, windows vista, outlook 2007.
Any suggestions on how to fix these problems?

Sure it's selcted, it's just not being stored in my iPhone's iTunes library as its stored on my macbook's iTunes library. I've dragged it to where I want it and it still won't store. I havne't needed to connect them with a cable since late last year I think with the new iTunes and updates, and you shouldn't have to. But this is frustrating, I finally found a way to get Tool on iTunes and I can't get it stored on my iPhone.

  • ITunes not seeing iPhone. Windows 7

I'm wondering if anybody can help with the following.
I'm running Win7 Home 32-bit with all of the latest updates and also have the latest version of iTunes installed. I'm trying to connect an iPhone to my PC, via iTunes, but it is not recognised by iTunes, and I keep getting an error saying that it cannot read the iPhone.
However, the iPhone does appear in Windows Explorer (apparently as a camera, as I can read the DCIM file and look at the photos there), but as the iPhone is not jailbroken I cannot see any other files. The iphone is running iOS5.
From searching online, it appears that the problem may be that Windows thinks it is a camera, and has atatched a particular driver to it (an MTP driver). Others also suggest that I need to have the phone installed with a different driver (usbappl).(As suggested in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538)
If I uninstall the phone or try and automatically update the driver then it says that there is no better driver.
I have also tried to specifically update it with the usbappl driver (by updaing the driver and using the "have disk" option and then browsing to where the usbappl driver is installed). In this case I get an error saying that "the folder specified doesn't contain a compatible driver for your device).
Can anybody suggest how I can get Windows to update with the correct driver, or some other way of getting iTunes to see the iPhone.
    Many thanks for your help.

If you haven't already done so, work through the entire troubleshooting steps on http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538, including 1-6 at the bottom.  Often restarting the AMDS (step 3) will be necessary.  If all else fails, uninstall iTunes and all of its components as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 and reinstall iTunes.

  • ITunes not seeing new iPhone today only

I've synced with my iPhone several times, but today I plugged in my iPhone to the USB port and About This Mac sees my iphone, but iTunes does not. I've tried restarting the computer, but no luck.

I have been suffering this exact same problem ever since I got my new iPhone last Tuesday. Options to recover are:
    1. Soft reset of the iPhone (shut it down and restart)
    2. If the cable is in a USB hub, remove it and put it directly into the Mac
    3. Reload iTunes
    4. Hard reset of the iPhone putting the iPhone in recovery mode followed by a Fresh Restore (loses all content)
Of the above the only one that works for me is a hard restore which is a real pain as I have to reload all my content each and every time.
Oddly, I have found that when my iMac gets a spinning ball in iTunes, if I go to another computer and plug in it finds the iPhone fine, which kinda confirms this is an iTunes issue rather than an iPhone hardware issue.
By way of example, Saturday I get a spinning ball in iTunes whenever the iPhone is connected. I try on my macbook and the macbook finds it fine, but I cant sync as my main computer is the iMac.
Sunday night iTunes on the mac finds the iPhone! I spend all night reloading my content.
Monday night iMac cannot see the iPhone again - spinning ball - and after trying 1-3 options without success I do a hard reset into recovery mode followed by a restore and then reload everything yet again.
I've also noted that not all album artwork comes over either, which is irritating but minor compared to this random loss off connection.
Btw I called apple support and the guy I talked to suggested that it could be something to do with the issues around mobileme. Not sure what the connection is exactly but I'm trying to research this angle.

  • ITunes not seeing my iPhone G3

While iPhoto sees my G3 iPhone, the new iTunes does not. It sees my iPod, but not my iPhone. In order to get it to show up, I have to re-install iTunes and restart my machine. Then, my iPhone shows up, but only for that session. As soon as I shut down my machine and start-up again, the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes and I have to start the whole process over again.
    Anyone else having this problem?

I had the same problem on my wife's PB 15" G4 and had to activate her iphone using my 'book pro 17". I tried every suggested solution including deleting all the pref files for itunes and reinstalling the app, but I was still getting the unknown error messages. If I created a new user, itunes would see the phone, pointing to the fact that the problem was software (system/user) and not hardware (usb). I didn't want to try to migrate all the user data from one to the other or do a full erase and install since all the other programs were working properly.
What fixed the problem, was doing an "archive and install" of the system folder using the OSX install DVD and holding the "C" key, then choosing "custom install"> archive and install. It took over 2 hours to complete since you then have to do a software update to the latest versions of OS X, quicktime and itunes. But it now works perfectly when it's hooked up to her PB. Hope this helps others.

  • HT204406 The songs on my computer itunes playlist and my iphone playlist songs are not matching up. I do see new songs I've added on my computer playlist on my iphone playlist but the songs are not in the same order. How do I get them to match?

Playlists matching on computer and iphone?  The playlists on my computer in itunes are not matching up with the "match" playlist on my iphone.  New songs do show up when I add them to a playlist, but the songs are all in different order.  If I edit a playlist on my computer how do I get it to match on my iphone?

Restore them to the new computer using the bakcup of the old one. If you don't have a backup of the old computer, you can re-download music purchased from the iTunes store. If they were imported from CD's, etc. You will either have to re-rip them or purchase third party software to extract them from the phone. The iPhone is not a backup or data transfer device.

  • IPhone (and iTunes) not seeing music, podcast on iPhone.

All of a sudden, out of nowhere, and several days after updating to 3.0.1 and using my iPhone without any trouble it has stopped seeing that it has music, podcasts, videos and custom ringtones on it. However, it does recognize that it has that amount of drive space occupied by "Other" items (when viewed in iTunes.)
On the iPhone itself, in Settings > About, it also shows that the correct amount of space is used, but it shows 0 songs, podcasts, etc.
I've searched around online but haven't found any mention of others having this problem... Any idea what might have gone wrong and how to fix it?
    Thanks!

Something went wrong with the sync process, which can occur if the sync process is interrupted.
The only way to resolve this is by restoring your iPhone with iTunes. Sync your iPhone with iTunes immediately before doing so to update your iPhone's backup and any data that is kept synchronized.

  • ITunes not seeing iPhones or iPad

It's been a couple weeks since I last synced apps and podcasts, so decided to to that tonight.
Started iTunes and let it download new stuff.  Noticed that there were no devices present in the left sidebar.  Should see two iPhones and an iPad.
Restarted iTunes a couple times - no joy.
Tried starting a wiFi sync on my iPhone - nothing.
Plugged iPhone via USB to MacBook, still nothing in iTunes.
    Now what?
MacBook's running Mountain Lion and is fully patched.

Problem solved.  Rebooted the MacBook and now iTunes sees my devices.  Very strange.
