Not seeing PS fan RPMs in BIOS

Im not seeing the RPMs of my Power supply in the BIOS or Pc Alert 3.  Im positve the 3 pin wire is connected correctly.  Any settings in BIOS that would help?  Thanks for any help.

Not true
The fans in the PSU have an internal sensor!
On my KT3 Ultra the bios does pick up when I plug that thin in and reads it at 1500rpm so there is a signal going to the fan sensor.
I think the problem is the bios on the board, back then there usuaally was a 2000rpm limit (lower limit) on the rpm sensors, not much can be done about it.

  • 256 GB SSD FDE in T400s... I can not see the harddrive in my bios

    hi everyone
I want to reset the encryption key of my SSD with Full disk encription. But unfortunately i cannot see this option in my bios ( i update to the newest one already)
    I found the answer
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-68369
    I should do the following:
Prepare a DOS bootable floppy disk and a floppy disk drive.
I have no idea how to do that... I dont even have a floppy disk (who has nowadays a floppy disk drive)
and i have no idea about Dos
I would be really thankful if someone could help me how to do it

Do you have a Mac? I know you said PC but technically a Mac is a PC.
I would try using Image Capture or iPhoto to import photos. If not, use a photo program that can get photos from your iPhone (it shows up as a camera device by default)
If that fails, Download a program called iExplorer. Plug your phone in and look for Media/DCIM/APPLE100/xxxx.mov file. It should stick out like a sore thumb if it's 11GB's in size. That directory is for the Camera Roll, unless you find it in another folder.

  • T42 will not see 160gbSamsung hard drive in bios - solid green light no apparent activity

I bought a 160 gb Samsung HM160HC for my T42 to upgrade and do a clean install. When I power on the laptop the green hard drive light stays solid. No activity at all and I do not hear any activity from the drive. The bios is 3.23 which is last one for the t42 in 2007. It is also not recognized in the bios setup screen in the startup menu, but the original 40gb shows up fine when I put it back in with the windows XP pro on it and boots up.
I also get a media test failure code: pxe-e61 to check cable on boot agent base code (ba1217bc) screen during boot up and of course "operating system not found" since it can't see a hard drive. Even when I load windows for the install it cannot find a source drive to install to.
Any ideas what is wrong. thinking I got a bad drive I ordered another one and it does the same thing. I have tried them in both of my t42 laptops with the same problem. Hard to believe I got 2 lemons but it does happen. Any known problems trying to use this drive in the T42 that you might be aware of, it was recommended by some other users when I was researching for a drive to buy for the upgrade.
    Thanks,

It never hurts to go over the basics:
    a) Make sure that all the pins are straight and no jumpers present.
    b) Secure the drive face down in the caddy with all four screws.
    c) Gently but firmly push it in all the way, applying the pressure to the HD cover, and then secure the cover with the screw as well.
    Any progress?
Well, do I feel like a dummy. The original HD was secured with only 2 screws so I only put the 2 of them back in since it worked fine for it before, It slid in and seemed to make the connection, no bent pins or anything, no jumpers, etc. just no action either ..LOL, WRONG!!!!! I build computers as a hobby so I went to my assortment of screws and put 2 more to secure it at all corners. HELLO.. works like a charm. I was so frustrated I just couldn't see it or didn't think that 2 scews could be the problem since it work fine like that before. Lesson learned and I know better than to cut corners in computer assembly.
So thanks for pointing out the obvious that I couldn't see. BUT... another issue that you might be able to help with.
I upgraded the HD sine the other one was only 12 gb and I was maxed out and I had been having windows XP Pro freeze up for no apparent reason, sometimes while I was using it other times I would come back and it was just unresponsive and I would have to hard restart it by powering it off. Thjought it was the sleep mode or hibernate mode glitching at first, then thought the hard drive might be getting to full and glitching or had a bad sector or sectors causing the problem.
Well I decided to go with Win 7 since most of the other computers on our home network are win 7 just to be compatible. I don't need the Aero features so that is not an issue for me. Well it is still freezing up, happened while I was updating Win 7 for IE 9. JUST FROZE. no response. Had to power it off to get it to work, just like before. Any Ideas, could it be in the BIOS? It is the last update from IBM 3.23. I also could never get the pointer mouse to work before which would be noce, kept telling me it was turned off in the bios...mouse pad works fine just can't activate the pointer control from the control box but I could never find or figure out in the bios what was wrong. Not sure if the two problems  are related or not.
So you thinkd reflashing the bios would help? I went in and checked the connections tothe motherboard when I upgraded the ram, just o be sure they were not loose or not counnected securely. Everything seemed to be fine but no pointer activity either and still frezzing up.
Direction to go and what to start looking for. start with the basics again i guess. I have 2 t42's and the other one works fine no glitches and  the pointer works on it with no problem.

  • Msi r9-290 gaming (fan RPM )

Hello can anyone help please . my r9-290 gaming dose NOT show the fan RPM any more in GPUZ or in MSI afterburner. it use to in 13.12 but now nothing shows on 14.1  (fan rpm = 0 ) fans are on and running on desktop they are at 18% and go to about 40% in game.
plus in MSI afterburner the gpu ram speed keeps going up and down like a yoyo.
here is a screen shot of what i mean.

    Hi hpipiw
I think the fans are actually fine, its definitely looking like a software issue, I didn't see this problem before installing afterburner, and setting a higher min fan speed seems to have cured the issue for now.
I can imagine that a fan thats seizing up might just stop at lower speeds, but I would think it would struggle to start up when touched.
Keeping an eye on it for now, will of course rma if I notice anything bad happening.
    Cheers for the comment.

  • Sorry, BIOS is Rev 1.0, CPU fan RPM still wont show, on Promise SATA and I have no activity led??

Yes, everything is properly connected, CPU fan is on CFAN1 and the HDD is on the Promise and the front panel led connector is properly connected.
Anyone know what the heck is wrong?? maybe my board has LED on VIA and not Promise opposed to Promise having it and VIA not??
and why won't my bios display the damn CFAN1 RPM's??? I tried every connector also.
    any help?
    thank you

Ok, this is weird, the HDD led connector was connected as directed in the manual, black (ground) on pin 1 and red (+12) on pin 3, whats weird is that I flipped it upside down (red on pin 1 and black on pin 3) and now it works, that just weird but at least it works now. every other connector works when connected normally, funny that I have to flip the HDD led connector upside down haha.
Anyway, still can't figure out the CPU Fan RPM, why it displays 0 while the Fan is actually running?? I don't know why.
Have you heard of that problem??
    Thanks again guys.

  • Fan RPM's read 0 in BIOS no matter where I plug the CPU fan, but it registers in Core Center???

    Hey,
I used to have BIOS Rev 1.0, updated to 1.2 thinking it would fix the problem about the Fan RPM's not registering, meaning they show 0 in the BIOS, but it didn't fix it, but it registers normally in Core Center in Windows XP Pro.
What the heck is the problem?? are any other poeple getting this problem?, everything is correctly connected and operates correctly.
    Specs are in my signature.
    Thank you,

I have the same problem.  Don't worry too much about it.  Most BIOS' won't recognize a CPU fan below a certain threshold, and the Thermaltake Silent Boost's stock fan probably fits into that category.

So in other words, it's quite normal for Mac to go nuts a little when watching YouTube Flicks, cause the flash coded on Mac differentiates from other operating systems hence the reason why there's a higher CPU?
Sure, but it shouldn't really "go nuts." When the original poster gets 76% CPU and I get 85% when watching a Flash video, that still means watching videos uses less than half the total CPU power of a dual core. Video in and of itself should not cause fans to start up, as my fans hardly every go on. When fans come on due to CPU load alone, it usually means a dual core is operating at close to 200% CPU load.
If the fans are coming on, it means other factors may be contributing to the heat. Maybe other processes are adding to the CPU load. Maybe the ambient room temperature is high, which is common in the summer or in the south. Maybe there is insufficient ventilation to the case. Maybe SMC Fan Control is set to make the fans start at a lower threshold; I have not modified my fan behavior and don't even monitor it.

  • G5 fans not recognized "Rear fan 0"

My G5 1.8Ghz fans are not all being recognized and the rear fan that is running is noisy.
Besides, blowing out the dust inside (there wasn't much) is there anything else I can do to trouble shoot this?
    iStat Menus shows:
    Front Fan 1000 rpm
    Rear Fan 0 3200rpm
The G5's air deflector is in place. istat menus should be should more than just 2 fans.
    Thanks

Okay, here another strange thing: I first had everything connected to the Mobo, so I was able to see the fans on PCalert3 (after upping the BIOS to 3.6). There I saw that my powersupply fan was rotating at a much slower rate than before. The alarm in PCalert3 even stared to sound. I have adjusted the threshold for an alarm, but that's just treating the symptoms. Is it explainable that the fan of the powersupply is suddenly rotating slower? Could it be the extra juice needed to run the new casefan? Is this bad for my powersupply?

  • Platinum sli 7125 - temp / fan rpm sensor playing up

Recently installed a new nexus fan and a psu into my system ( see sig) and finding the fan and temp sensor chip is giving me odd readings...
It was fine previously and reported the consistent values through corecenter, speedfan and everest
Now I am sometimes getting temps of -99 for cpu, fan rpms dropping to 500pm on cpu even though the speed is not changing.
All readings from corecenter, speedfan and everest tally
It is solved by a quick reboot so a little confused as to why it is happening?
I do have the latest bios 3A, which was put on 6 months ago, no changes recently apart from the new more powerful psu and a new rear case fan (replacing my older antec one) which is running off s_fan1 3 pin point rather than the antec one which ran off the psu directly
I may try swapping the nexus to run off the psu directly...
    thoughts welcomed
    thanks

    odd
all is back to normal it seems
I can only conclude that there is some spiking or irregular current flow via the 3 pin wires off the nexus...
it is now fine off the psu - good thing the nexus is only 22db at 12v ! as I could not bear to go back to the antec fan at 12v

  • Macbook pro 13" june 2009 fan rpm remains at 2000 rpm when temp is 85c

    Hi,
I've just bought a new macbook pro 13 inch and updated software vis software update.
I've noticed that the fan rpm went to 2700 rpm on every boot but
after a few minutes it goes down to 2000 no matter the temperature is
I'm using iStatPro to see the temp and fan
I've tried open youtube videos to raise the temperature to 71 but the fan remains the same at 2000
    Please advise.
    Thank you

    Thank you for the info
I've just tried resetting the SMC but no luck.
since this is my first mac computer so I'm not sure if this is normal or not
after an investigation with different scenarios of work load I found that
    room temp : 27c
    cold boot : cpu 45c
    : fan 2000 / 2700 rpm
    warm boot : cpu 58c
    : fan 2000 / 2700 rpm
    running parallels
    with windows 7
and visual studio : cpu 75c
    : fan 2000 rpm
The fan did kick in to 3500 rpm once the temp is 85c
I'm not sure if this is normal or not since my Dell M1330 xps
which running vista and visual studio shows only
    cpu: 58c
    fan: 3000rpm
    Thank you
I'm not thinking about using SMC fan control to set the default to 3000 rpm
and use it only when I work on Windows but not sure if the program will damage
    my new baby or not
    Thank you

  • Fan rpm in EliteBook's.

    Hi there.
I am really satisfied with using Elitebooks (8460p, 8470p, 2560p, 2570p, 2170p) but I'm really not able to understand why the lowest available rpm's in Elitebooks is 3200rpm (12,5") and ~2700rpm (14,1") are sow high?
Why there is no lower options? I need to choose between fan turned off or first level of rpm (3200rpm in 2560p).
Is it so hard to create BIOS which allow fan to work with less rpm's? For example 2300rpm on first level (another ones with additional ~300rpm) will make this laptop almost soundless and temperatures would be higher about 3-5C (mean temp now are 37/38C). It would be great...
    King regards from Poland.

    Hi Bro
I understand your concern. If you must know, Cisco ASA releases much more heat than Cisco PIX. Cisco TAC has confirmed this, but I can’t recall the Cisco TAC case number. In fact, another person in this community has confirmed this too https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/227383
Hence, your equipment rack has to be well ventilated and ensure the chassis top panel is properly fasten/secured. The Cisco ASA's chassis is designed to allow cooling air to flow effectively within it. Furthermore, baffles can help to isolate exhaust air from intake air, which also helps to draw cooling air through the chassis. The best placement of the baffles depends on the airflow patterns in the rack. The current fan's position are designed to suck cool air in and blow it through the chassis. Do not reposition the fan. Repositioning the fan is gonna spoilt the hardware.
Just to share with you, most of the datacenters that I have been to, only the rear rack door is dismantled, to further supplement the proper air flow IN/OUT of the network equipment racks. This isn’t the best recommended physical security as per Cisco’s best practice, but as long as you’ve proper physical security to the main door of the datacenter, I guess that should do it for now :-)
After all, not all companies (especially small to medium size) out there can afford to spend huge sum of good money to purchase expensive well designed top notch equipment racks such as APC, Great Lakes, Chatsworth, SharkRack, Rittal etc. that allows them to have equipment racks with front and rear door closed 24/7 365 days, a year.
P/S: If you think this comment is helpful, please do rate it nicely :-)

  • P55A-GD65 Can not see Sata III drive

I can not get the bios to see my 250gig sata III. I have it connected to sata#7 white connector.
I tried to first see it, no go. I am trying to fresh install w7 hp upgrade 64bit to my new sata III drive. I can not find the drive. I do not know if it is bad or what?
I set Integrated peripherals- sata 6g/s controller mode to ahci, and in on-chip ata devices raid mode set it to ahci. I tried to install w7 from disc. It just Says I have made a hardware change. Try to do a repair start or start as normal. Then said my boot sector was messed up. I pressed  reset and got into bios and set it all back to ide mode.
It would not start normal. But from page it says try w7 disc etc. I told it to start windows normally it did, I have rebooted So I guess it fixed the boot sector..
I am not sure what to do. I can not find the drive, and no place in my bios can I find the sata 7-8 connectors. they are listed as 1-6 and 9.. everything skips 7-8. I am in w7 now. I could do the reg tweak. I want to fresh install w7 upgrade on my new sata III drive. then nuke this sata II and make it a storage drive..
Maybe I need to press a key with w7 disc in  during restart. I can not figure out how to make Let me reinstall w7. I did press F6 but I did not know what to do. Upgrading from xp was pretty easy. This sata III and  mobo and w7 is a head ake. It is no simple instructions no place to make this stuff work right. Ha ha the manual is no help either.
I do not know if maybe the drive is bad or not. I never had to do this stuff in bios just to install a drive, and then controllers 7-8 show no place. I do not know what to do..

    Follow up.
My cam batteries are acting up. Sorry not better photo'. The second photo. I changed out my speakers set up etc, and its photo was with our cam corder, it has no flash.. The top 5.25 bay filter is a test. I need better materials to make a better 1, but it works well, not so pretty tho. If I relax the pantyhose, It looks a lot better, is black. You can not see through it, but less air flow...
The blower box mod I made from a gutted opt drive, uses the rest of the 5.25 bay cage as the lower sides of the box. The top side, the actual gutted opt drive, I used my zig saw, cut along the sides from the top and back end. So it was free to bend down. You can not see from the photo, but it is down just above the top of the mobo tray, and extends out past the back side of the 5.25 cage. With both downward blowing air and is more compressed or moves faster because the top is bent down etc. I cut off the access on the side so not to go past the 5.25 cage. Made a face plate to mount the fan [can crank 103 cfm] to the other end of the gutted opti. It is easy in out, uses my normal case mounting gear, and is flush with the front of the case. The filter and or front cover are separate. I need to make a better filter frame. But it works. I like it for now.. My twin p160 case has the same set up, but using a 80mm face plate and fan, and being a normal 5.25 opti drive as it base, they can go case to case, most all cases have a 5.25 cage, so. I could use this on the lian li case below and just mount a normal fan filter right to the face plate..>>
Build #2, my buds rig, was a snap to build. Not 1 fault in the entire build from- view reliability history. The large case was nice to work in.. Both systems running great and with AHCI support.

    Hi @CreaTivEuk ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome.  I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv7-3111ea Notebook and issues with the newer battery. Here is a link to test and calibrate the battery.
Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue.
The link you sent does show me the correct battery for your HP Notebook.
I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings

  • Equium A60 does not see 80GB 7200rpm HDD

My Equium PSA67E has the latest 1.90 Bios. It came supplied with a 40GB hard drive.
When i filled this up I replaced this with an 80GB seagate momentus 7200 rpm drive. This ran fine for about 6 mths. Recently I started laptop and it would not recognise the 80GB seagate drive?
If I put the drive in external drive case I can write to and read from it. It works fine in 2 of my friends laptops; but my own bios will now not recognize it!
I have tried PC world where I bought it and they cannot get it to work in this laptop. What could have changed? Now restricted to old 40Gb drive, not happy :(
    Any suggestions welcome.

Yes I did , I put the old drive back in so I can go online. Please note that the 80Gb upgrade drive has worked correctly for months. Next day I turn the laptop back on & it does not see this drive? Nothing has been altered or installed by me since it worked the day before. I have checked the pins. All ok. The 80GB works in an external drive case & in two friends laptops .
I put it back in mine many times and it still does not recognise it in the bios. I do not understand why it will work everywhere except as my primary drive.
    Any other ideas please?

Since BIOS V3.3 Speedfan (V 4.20) is not able to reduce the rpm of the CPU-Fan (of course connected to CFAN1). Before flashing BIOS 3.2, it worked well (CPU < 40°C = Fan spins with 60%). After flashing BIOS 3.3 (because it resolves the problem with USB legacy and WindowsXP), Speedfan (and Corecenter) do not reduce die fan power. If i stay a while in the BIOS, i can hear, how the fan runs lower and lower. But under windows the fan runs on full power.
    I have this problem too.
I don't have ability to change speed fan for CPU, and then I have 60 degrees on full load.
When I setup in CoreCenter utility to user mode and fan to high speed, as if by miracle on cpu fan speed change from 1600 to 2400,
but now it's on 1600 again and setup in core center dont't make any change on speed fan.
Is it OK in bios 3.2 ? with setup speed on cpu ?
