Not starting up, infinite loop?

yesterday, mid working, all applications automatically quit. a black box appeared saying i need to restart. as i restart the iMac, i can hear the restart sound. but it stays with the infinite loop without turning over; i.e. it won't turn over to the desktop. i have not backup my files. please help!

I'm almost certain that what you have had a kernel panic. This occurs when you have a hardware issue, try and put in the installation disk into the iMac and hold c and then go to any hardware diagnostics.
You might be able to fix it, but if not then you'd better ring Apple to get your iMac repaired.

If no-one comes up with better ideas of what causes this then my questions and suggestions:
What do you mean by an infinite loop ? <br />
The page loads and then goes blank. What exactly happens next, does the page fully load and fully display again before going blank, and repeat this cycle endlessly in the same tab.
You do say the problem persisted in safe-mode and you had looked at the basic troubleshooting article. Buy that you can stop the problem by disabling javascript.
* did you disable all plugins - and did you still get the problem then ?
As you mention disabling javascript stops the problem, have you tried with<br /> Java script enabled but

* load images automatically OFF
* advanced options - ALL OFF<br /> What happens do you get the problem then or not.
While on this firefox site if I look at the error console Ctrl+Sift+J or Tools -> Error console If I clear the console content and reload the webpage the error console shows only a couple of messages. YouTube home page give a lot of yellow triangle warnings about 200, but no red warnings, do you get red warnings.
You could also try on the problem sites eg YouTube changing the permissions with tools -> Page Info | Permissions
Did you try the Basic Troubeshooting suggestion of making a new profile. (Heeding the warning not to delete settings, otherwise you loose all bookmarks etc) did that help ?

Interupt an infinite loop

Hi all
I was wondering if anyone could offer some help on a problem of mine
I have a GUI with a button (labeled start), when its clicked it starts an infinite loop that is stopped by the same button (obviously after the first click the text changes to stop) . The problem i`m trying to solve is that once the loop is started the GUI`s action listener wont be able to listen for the second click(cause the listener is still waiting for the loop to stop)
Can anyone think of a work around for this problem
oh and the loop cannot be interrupted other than the 'click' as it needs to constantly change the values on screen
There`s probably a simple solution that Ive missed but i cant think of it - just going in circles now

yeah it could be a while loop but the program will continue with the loop and not get the second click - so it cant change the variable e.g.

Bluescreen - Caught in an infinite loop

Hello,
I have a strange Problem with my System. Everytime I use a 2D/3D progam it freeze after about 30 minutes.
But the strangest thing is, new games like Quake4 , F.E.A.R and Oblivion do not freeze.
I tried everything that I know.
- Ran Memtest86+ like 8h, no errors
- Ran Prime95, no erros
- Checked System Temprature
- Tried Omega and DNA driver
- BIOS update
- Disabled Write Combing, found it on Microsoft Support Page
- Put the Graphiccard in another computer, it works perfect
- Reinstalled Windows, same error
- Put out Creative X-Fi

Well the problem is not only by games, the problem occurs by every simple 2D/3D application, so a patch wont help.

What model MBP and which version of OS X? Sounds as if the hard drive may have failed. If you have an installation disc, try booting with it. If your machine came with Lion or Mountain Lion, try booting to the Recovery partition - Command and R keys held down while booting.

Infinite loop - "Some actions taken while...offline could not be completed"

I have 4 IMAP accounts (.Mac, Gmail and 2 at SpamArrest). Occasionally, I get in this infuriating state where I keep getting the following error:
"Some actions taken while the account "ClickMarkets-SA" was offline could not be complete online.
Mail has undone actions on some messages so that you can redo the actions while online. Mail has saved other message in mailbox "INBOX.Sent Messages" in "On My Mac" so that you can complete the
actions while online.
Additional information: The connection to the server "mail.spamarrest.com" on port 993 timed out."
The only way I've found to resolve this infinite loop of messages (which subsequently backs up all other mail processing) is to quit mail, then cd to ~/Library/Mail/[email protected]/.OfflineCache and delete everything in there then relaunch mail.
In each cases, I end up with a mailbox folder (Sent or Drafts) in the folder "On My Mac" which has one copy for each attempt at handling the message "online."
I opened up the Connection Doctor and looked at the log details and saw that Mail is opening a socket to spamarrest and starting an APPEND operation on my INBOX.Drafts folder -- I have "store drafts on server" checked. It appears the APPEND operation is hanging and causing a timeout (see transcript below). This happens every 60 seconds. The error that I see after the timeout is:
* BYE [ALERT] Fatal error: INTERNAL ERROR: Keyword hashtable memory corruption.: Input/output error
Who's Fatal error is that?
SpamArrest is trying to tell me the problem is with both of my computers and not their server. (Yes, this is hitting both my MacBook Pro and my iMac). Can anyone shed some more light on this? IMAP should be able to handle multiple computers so I don't see that as a problem. Is my Mail app not following protocol? Is it a filesystem issue (e.g. SpamArrest doesn't like the name of the folder)?

I am having a really wierd issue as well that is probally related. I dont see 95% of the album artwork associated with my music. Also, it seems as if this has gotten worse since I started using that match feature

MySQL Service first time use: in infinite loop, won't start and can't stop

Log says: "The host 'DOMAIN.COM' could not be looked up with resolveip."
It says that is not a problem just use IP addresses. Included just FYI.
Then: "Installing MySQL system tables...
Installation of system tables failed!"
I suspect this is why I am in an infinte loop.
In setup I chose a Root Password and changed the default database location to be on my second HDD, plus I allowed Network connections.
Now it is in the starting state always, looping with the same error over and over and creating bin files in my chosen DB area. I can't stop it from the GUI (not tried from command line as want to be sure I get right command - help there would be welcome). I can't remove the service as it puts itself right back in there straight away. Rebooting doesn't help as it starts up automatically. Please help!

I am putting up my "solution" as it is for now. After quite a bit of research, I discovered that my problem was caused by my selection of a database location that had a space in the path. I was using the Server Admin GUI and would have hoped that such a tool would know the MySQL can't have spaces in the path and it would have told me not to set it to one that did have space in the path, but it seems not. So once that was discovered I also thought changing the path in the GUI would fix it, but alas, it did not. After quite a bit more research (I learned quite a lot, during this, but there is still a lot more to learn) I worked out that the plist file used by the daemon which starts services had not reflected the changes I had made in the GUI. So after more checking to make sure it was Ok to do so, I edited the file to reflect the database location and PID file location to be the default of /var/mysql. MySQL sprang to life and seemed fine, but unfortunately the GUI was messed up still. So a little more research led me to the serveradmin command that can be used in place of the GUI and I have now been able to turn off the service (I only started it out of curiosity and don't yet need it). So as I say - a kind of "solution" because actually my GUI appears to be broken, but I am able to use my machine again without it looping incessantly.

Start/Stop Buttons and infinite loop exit

I am trying to make a GUI with a Start/Stop and an Exit button. Initially the button will have the label "Start". When i push it, its label should become "Stop" and an infinite loop function will begin. I want the loop to run until i press the Stop or Exit button.
The problem is that when the loop starts i can't press neither of the buttons. The "Start" button changes its label into "Stop" only if i make the loop finite and it ends.

Push-replication pattern does not work in activeactive mode - infinite loop

Hi Gurus,
I have encountered some problems while playing with the example of push-replication / active2active pattern, and tried to fix them. But there is still one which is now beyond my current knowledge:
Issue 1: (fixed)
After download the latest Incubator example from the official website and run the push-replication / active2active example directly following the [readme] file, exceptions related to serialization / deserialization occurred. I then added the mockito-all-1.8.5.jar to the Incubator-example’s lib directory and the problem gone.
Issue 2: (fixed)
Running the example, and found that [update events] triggered by the active-server1 can be propagated to active-server2, but not for vice versa (active-server2 -> active-server1). I inspected the cache configuration file of active-server2 (active2-cache-config.xml), and found there should be a typo in it, as:

After having the above 2 issues fixed, and re-run the example from scratch, this time I found the program can never end (infinite loop). From the log, I can see the update-count exceeds 5000 (expected value is 2000 which will trigger the program exit) and keep increasing????????

Issues 1 and 2 are now resolved in Incubator 11.0.0
Issue 3 looks to be a problem with the lack of a suitable base-case preventing eventual consistency between the sites.
Note: That the Auction example, which is also "Active Active" does not have this problem.

My Ipod is stuck in an infinite loop not like the others so far discussed

Today out of the blue my 5th Gen ipod displays the starts making an ominous clicking noise, displays the "sad ipod face" and then starts flashing "battery very low: please wait" then it shuts off the apple icon appears and the whole thing starts over. I've tried to boot it in Disk mode which I managed once right after it happened but I was hesitant to restore because I was at work and would loose all my songs. It then proceeded to freeze and now is stuck back in this infinite loop. I plugged it to two different computers and a car charger and nothing seems to make it charge but it had at least half a charge before it started with this thing. Someone Help Me Please!!!

I even tried some hints posted for ios6 (turn off Ipad, holding home button and plugging in power cord at the same time and then releasing the home button)
I did manage to get a different screen that shows the itunes icon and a power cord, but nothing happens.

You were on the right track. You got the connect to iTunes screen and you ended to use iTujes to restore your iPad. Try recovery mode again.
Recovery Mode Instructions
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
Use iTunes to restore iPad.

Java Web Start Application surprisedly does not start anymore based on new JRE1.7.0_45

Hi everyone,
we have to maintain a self-developed Java Application which is running based on JRE1.5.0_51 (x64). Our recent client machines have JRE1.7.0_40 (x64 too) installed in addition to the mentioned (and needed) JRE1.5.0_51 (x64).
Everything was fine up to the point where we tried to install the newest JRE1.7.0_45 (x64) as the new version for doing the web start magic. The result is that our application (which is/was unchanged!) does not launch anymore. The strange thing is that we do not get any StackTrace, Exception or something else like this.
The startup process simply hangs :-(
Nothing has changed (application itself, firewall, network settings, hardware) apart from the new JRE version. It's reproducible at will. If I install JRE1.7.0_40 (x64) the application starts, if I install JRE1.7.0_45 (x64) the application hangs.
I can say for sure, that in both cases (*_40 AND *_45) Web Start is able to do the synchronizing job and to launch the application base on the correct JRE1.5.0_51 (x64).
My guess is that in case of an installed JRE1.7.0_45 (x64), the application hangs when it tries to connect to the database (Oracle 11g) via JDBC.
I found a little hint in the Web Start Console. Therefore I had to switch the trace level of the console to 3 (which includes security, network and basic)
In case of an installed JRE1.7.0_40 (x64) - which leads to a running application - I will receive the following output:

These last "network:" log entries will never stop. This will lead to an infinite loop which results in a great memory leak. I have to kill the process via windows task manager in order to get rid of it.
Does someone out there has the same problem? Are there any new additional security issues which prevent my client to establish the database connection on port 1521?
Any other ideas?

Resolution: We still were not able to solve this issue! The only way to get out of this is to install the JRE1.5 as the x64 variant. In this case no switching from 64-bit to 32-bit is needed and everything is on track again.
But this is still strange and unexplainable :-(

Infinite loop error after using Java Sun Tutorial for Learning Swing

I have been attempting to create a GUI following Sun's learning swing by example (example two): http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/learn/example2.html
In particular, the following lines were used almost word-for-word to avoid a non-static method call problem:

frame.getContentPane().add(contents, BorderLayout.CENTER);I believe that I am accidentally creating a new instance of the gui class repeatedly (since it shows new GUI's constantly and then crashes my computer), possibly because I am creating an instance in the main class, but creating another instance in the GUI itself. I am not sure how to avoid this, given that the tutorials I have seen do not deal with having a main class as well as the GUI. I have googled (a nice new verb) this problem and have been through the rest of the swing by example tutorials, although I am sure I am simply missing a website that details this problem. Any pointers on websites to study to avoid this problem would be appreciated.

um, yeah, you definitely have a recursion problem, that's going to create an infinite loop. you will eventually end up an out of memory error, if you don't first get the OS telling you you have too many windows. interestingly, because you are deferring execution, you won't get a stack overflow error, which you expect in an infinite recursion.
lets examine why this is happening:
in main, you call new MGui().
new MGui() creates a runnable object which will be run on the event dispatch thread. That method ALSO calls new MGui(), which in turn ALSO creates a new object which will be run on the event dispatch thead. That obejct ALSO calls new MGui(), which ...
well, hopefully you get the picture.
you should never unconditionally call a method from within itself. that code that you have put in the constructor for MGui should REALLY be in the main method, and the first time you create the MGui in the main method as it currently exists is unnecessary.
here's what you do: get rid of the MGui constructor altogether. since it is the implicit constructor anyway, if it doesn't do anything, you don't need to provide it.
now, your main method should actually look like this:

Apple TV 1st gen stuck in infinite loop

This has probably been covered a few times but the only answers I could find was from an archived discussion.
The other day I was given an Apple TV 1st gen, it had not been used for quite some time, and decided to upgrade the software, when I noticed it still had old pictures and music on from the previous user, not wanting to keep these pictures, I decided to reset the machine to factory settings, which it did, but on the restart it was stuck at a loop giving me a code to enter into iTunes, and then resetting and giving me a different code.
i've tried several resets of the settings, holding menu and - together, but still having no joy.
Its never been tampered with, but its really annoying me.
Can anyone help? this is a very old product so figure something might have been done during this time

I have been in the middle of the same problem for months.
I think the problem is with the software version that the older 40GB Apple TV's revert to after the factory restore. Mine reverted to version 1.0, and that is when the loop started happening. Since when did a factory restore become a factory paper weight creator!
I read somewhere that the Apple TV looks at an Apple server and the older software doesn't play well with the updated server causing it to keep rebooting. I'll try to find a link about this if I can find it again. I remember reading that it happened to a bunch of people with older Apple TV software on a particular day that Apple upgraded their server.
If you don't let your Apple TV connect to the internet, it will stop the infinite loop, but it also means you can't upgrade your software. I haven't tried it yet, but it also might be an issue with newer versions of iTunes.
I tested this by unplugging my router, and the Apple TV stopped looping.
I tried to fix this before without success, but I am really determined this time.
