Not supported by this architecture

Hi All.
My Appleworks 6 was working fine yesterday afternoon. I moved all of my word processing files to a flash drive to free up some hard drive memory. It was doing fine until this morning. Now, I can't open Appleworks and none of my files are readable. I keep getting this message: You cannot open the application Appleworks 6 because it is not supported on this architecture.
The appleworks folder is still in my applications and everything. So, what's up with this and can I somehow retirieve the lost documents?
Thanks!
Dottie

I transferred my Appleworks 6 from my old iMac to my new MacBook using the same flash drive that I tried to use last night for storing my documents. My documents and Appleworks were both functioning and everything last night when I turned off the computer.
Hi Dottie,
I'm assuming "the computer" refers to the MacBook, and that you were running AW on that before you shut down.
I'm also assuming that you still have the iMac and that AW isn't yet removed from it.
If so, try this:
Remove AppleWorks from the MacBook.
--delete com.apple.appleworks.plist and the AppleWorks folder from yourname > Library > Preferences (folder)
--delete AppleWorks User Data (folder) from yourname > Documents (folder)
--delete AppleWork 6 (folder) from your Applications folder.
(AppleWorks may not have created some of these files/folders yet, so don't fret if you don't find them.)
ZIP the AppleWorks 6 folder in Applications on the iMac.
--Select the folder then go File > Create Archive
COPY the resulting zip file to the flash drive, then from there to the Desktop on the MacBook.
Double click the zip file on the MacBook to expand the archive.
Drag the AppleWorks 6 folder to the Applications folder.
At that point you should be good to go, but I'd take one further step before launching AW: Launch Disk Utility and Repair Permissions on the MacBook's hard drive.
Once you're satisfied that things are working, you should make a backup copy of the zip file, and to stay within the single user/single machine terms of the AppleWorks User Licence, delete AppleWorks from the iMac.
Regards,
Barry

Use Tony's suggestion. I am running it right now and it is awesome. I love Mozilla but they basically screwed all of those older Macs over. Come on Mozilla. These Macs still work, and there are plenty of people with them out there.

  • Mac G4 w/OS 10.5.8, New download won't open-not supported on this architecture, worked perfectly w/3.6 & down load said it will support Mac OS 10.5, what do I do to not lose all my bookmarks, etc?

I had 3.6 & the website said new Firefox, need OSX 10.5 or above. Now the icon in the dock has a white circle w/slash like do not enter & when I click on it, a box opens that says,"You cannot open the app Firefox because it is not supported on this architecture."
How can I get my Firefox back without losing all my info on my previous version?

  • You can't open the application "Adobe InDesign CS4" because it is not supported on this architecture"

A day or two ago I went through installing Adobe InDesign CS4 on Leopard OS X.5.8.  After what appears to be a successful installati
on, in launching InDesign CS4 the message " You can't open the application "Adobe InDesign CS4" because it is not supported on this
architecture" comes up".  Calling in to support and speaking with the agent who read through previous posts, suggested to me that I
should try the same fix that has been suggested when I ran across an error when installing Adobe InDesign CS4 on another separate ha
rd drive externally connected to this computer running Snow Leopard OS X.6.1 for the error reading: "Damaged &/or incomplete install
ation" when launching afterwards.  The support technician told me to first delete with the uninstall Adobe InDesign CS4, InDesign.
Following this I am told to run the CS4 Cleanup Utility.  I restart the computer each and every time after running each of the utili
ties.  Now I am told to install InDesign as a trial version from the DVD and after installation to go ahead & enter the serial numbe
    r.  When launching InDesign CS4 after installation got back the same error as before: "You can't open the application "Adobe InDesig
n CS4" because it is not supported on this architecture" comes up".  Followed KB404711 article and no success.  What else can be don
    e to fix this issue?
This morning contacted Adobe Support regarding this response:
After having a detailed reserach on your issue i acme to the conclusion
that the problem you are having is not related to Adobe software but its
in fact related to your MAC version ( OSX-5.8). While reseraching your
    issue i came across
to many forums where a lot of postings were about the similar error but
with different products the only comon thing was all the Errors were
with Mac machine , also when you check the system requirements  for
    Adobe Indesign Cs4
by going to the following link
    http://www.adobe.com/products/indesign/systemreqs/?promoid=DRHXE  you
will find the Mac OS version supported are from Mac OS X
v10.4.11–10.5.4. but we do support Snow Leoprad , so i would like
to advise to you to either contact your system manufacturer or upgrade
to Snow Leopard ( mac os x 10.6)
I have been told that my case is being sent to Level 2 agents and that it can take 24-48 hours for a response.  In the meantime I decided to see what the Support Forums can do for me.  Until then I am down.  Thanks for the help.

In the application folder there is a folder 'Adobe InDesign CS4' within which there is just the application file. I would expect there should be more file there??
I've un-installed and installed again - still the same.
Even downloaded the dmg again and done thwe whole thing over again.

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • My Mac with OS 10.5.8 says I cannot open Firefox because it is not supported on this architecture. I tried to update my version, and this is all I get now. What can I do to use Firefox again? Thank you.

My computer is not allowing me to utilize any version of Firefox, after multiple downloading attempts. I simply get a message that Firefox is not supported on this architecture, and the Firefox icon in my toolbar now has a circle on it with a line through it (Canceled). I hope that someone can explain what I need to do to be able to use Firefox once again. Thank you, TC

As you have a PPC or Power Mac the last release form Mozilla to work on PPC is Firefox 3.6.*
Firefox 3.6.23 can be found at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Since you have a PPC Mac there is this third-party option for Firefox 7.0.1 at
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
As of Firefox 4.0, a '''Intel''' Mac with OSX 10.5+ is required for Firefox builds from Mozilla. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/7.0.1/system-requirements/

  • Can't open the application "Firefox.app" because it is not supported by this architecture. I'm using mac os 10.5.8

Been using Firefox (many years) version 3.16.. Received invitation to download Firefox version 4 for Mac this morning and did so (regretably losing 3.16 version) because now the new version 4 won't open. I just keep getting the error message "You can't open the application "Firefox.app" because it is not supported by this architecture." I'm using the latest Mac OS 10.5.8. The processor is 1.8 GHz Power PC G5.
I trashed the first download and downloaded a 2nd Firefox version 4 and had the same results.

  • Cs4 trial "not supported on this architecture" but I meet min reqs...

I cannot get the CS4 PS trial to open on my iMac.
I have an iMac G5 with 1G RAM. I am running 10.5.6 Leopard. Far as I can tell, that meets the minimum requirements listed on the product page.
I have downloaded the trial and installed it just fine. However, when I go to my applications folder, there is a circle with a line through it over my program icon and when I double click it says that CS4 cannot open because it is not supported on this architecture.
I'm very confused! I just picked up this iMac the other day from a girl who said she ran the trial just fine. But, she wiped the system clean and did a fresh OS install before selling me the machine. Now, I can't use CS4?
I am new to Macs, so please be gentle. I appreciate the help in advance!

The architecture error is nothing new and you can google for others with the same problem -- and with no better luck in finding a solution.
You can try the 'CS4 clean script' (also google-able) to clean the system prior to installing the full product but whatever you have is likely messed up because two trials were attempted.
When the Adobe software is installed, it allegedly writes data to the initial sector (MBR) of your drive which is not often wiped on normal reformats. You can either get a disk tool to wipe that area or try another hard drive.

  • Application Not Supported on This Architecture

    Hey,
I'm having problems opening applications I have downloaded. Whenever I open applications such as "Firefox" and "Minecraft", and others, an error message shows up with the following: "You cannot open the application "App Name" because it is not supported on this architecture."
This has started ever since I updated my iBook G4 1.2 GHz PowerPC G4 10.4.11 to 10.5.8. These applications worked fine before the update. I would think more applications would work, after the upgrade... Any help?

If the applications you were running under 10.4.11 were running in the classic environment, you lost that when upgrading to 10.5 Leopard.  Otherwise, the latest Firefox version for the PowerPC is version 3.6 and is located here.
