Not sure how to match color more closely...use Pantone?
HI,
I've done everything possible to get a certainly red color I want in my ID manuscript, from setting color profiles, snyching across applications, monitor calibration, soft-proofing etc.etc etc. What I see on my monitor with the publishers profiles is NOT what I'm getting on my printer (R1900). I guess that's to be expected.
The publisher has it's own CMYK profile for their printer so i can't use theirs. There are so many different ways to configure printer management from letting ID manage color, using various Epson settings....all this stuff. Even if I get the color right on my printer, that doesn't mean it'll match the publishers, so why even try to get it right on my printer?
Actually, my document may even print fine with the publishers. Not being able to have more reassurance of the publishers outcome leaves me queasy! But I guess I have to play my hand.
So is the only way to know is wait for the hard copy? what about using Pantone? I don't know anything about that, but aren't they for spot colors, or at least I could find something closer that way. If there is a color I like, use those numbers rather than the ones I am.
Ideas?
Color management is an attempt to put into play .icc color profiles. This starts in your application's color settings. But, working with your print vendor is the best policy in preparing your files and getting what you want consistently. The Epson R1900 is a photographic printer. It is not an inkjet proofing device like an Epson Stylus Pro 3880 with a Colorburst RIP. I sense that, because the R1900 is not backed up with a RIP, you'd benefit from "Let InDesign determine color". However, the print driver is responsible for interpreting the information supplied from the application in an attempt to convert that info to an actual print. The challenge for you and your applications, along with your hardware limitations, is to give you a reasonable "red" that you are looking for. In short, you would benefit from assigning a Pantone Spot color for the specific Red you are looking for. The only problem is getting that Red to print on your R1900. And, the only way to get that to happen is using CMYK equivalents which you have been wrestling with. In a RIP ( Raster Image Processor ) scenario, you would use the printer's profile in the Print setup dialogs. Let's assume they are using "SWOP Coated v2 Sheetfed". You would assign that profile in your application's Color Settings under CMYK Workspace. Then, in your "Print" dialog, you'd set the same profile in the CMYK print space. But, in a RIP scenario, you'd let the RIP determine color rather than the application. That's the value of a RIP over a photographic printer where color matching is not a priority. It sounds like you'd benefit using a Pantone Spot. If you decided to use a Pantone Spot Red in your document, you would need the RIP and Proffer to produce an accurate color matched conversion in the Print process. With your current setup you will get mixed results from your print vendor. In any case, at a minimum, you should get a contract proof before you approve the project for press. This will give you an opportunity to adjust the CMYK equivalents or finalize a decision to go Pantone Spot before the job is ultimately printed. Now, again, a Postscipt Level 3 RIP matched up to a professional printer/proofer will convert your file's assigned Pantone "Red" Spot color and, in the case of the Epson Stylus Pro 3880, the printer will use it's 8 internal ink sets to produce a relatively close match to your Spot color.

Yes. Get a hardcopy proof instead of relying on the R1900.

It would help, if you continue to do this type of work, to get a desktop proofer like the one I've mentioned in my post. You want to "try" to get color matched output so that you are communicating what it is you want before getting to the printer, especially if you have an internal approval process you have to go through.
"Actually, my document may even print fine with the publishers. Not being able to have more reassurance of the publishers outcome leaves me queasy! But I guess I have to play my hand."
Not necessarily. Get the proof. You do not want 200,000 copies of your manuscript floating around out there with a rose pink instead of a flaming red.
"So is the only way to know is wait for the hard copy? what about using Pantone? I don't know anything about that, but aren't they for spot colors, or at least I could find something closer that way. If there is a color I like, use those numbers rather than the ones I am."
Yes. A Pantone Spot color is actually a very smart decision. And your InDesign document must be setup using that Spot color, not CMYK. For instance, let's say you settle on Pantone 206C for the cover and Pantone 206U for the uncoated text pages ( if any ). It's a simple 2-color job. Black + Pantone 206. If you want to print the file on your R1900, then you will convert a swatch using 0%C, 100%M, 30%Y, 3%K in a COPY of your Spot Color file. Send the Pantone Spot Color file to the publisher and keep the COPY in your folder for reference if need be.
This is my recommendation and I know it will work for you. Should the publisher insist on using a CMYK color mix, let them do it and supply you with a hardcopy proof before it goes to press. This is avery important no matter what you decide. The proof is very important part of the entire process.

My Windows 7 Pro went completely doo-Lally - I reinstalled the Windows 7 but I forgot to do anyting with Itune.
What I would like to know is, how do I get 2 playlists back into Itunes and then move audiobooks back into them.
As I said earlier, I have no backups from Itunes at all - I think I might learn a lesson from this
Regards
BillMany thanks.
With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.) -
To add to my original question: I had a 1st generation ipad and 32GB was more than enough storage now I'm having trouble making movies, adding media, etc. I have bought another 15GB of storage on I cloud. Can I put all of my apps on i cloud?
I'm going to be taking an overseas flight and wanted to rent a bunch of movies but I'm not sure how to do that.
I would be grateful for any help
sherrislpTo answer your question, you could remove your apps and then download them again as needed. Your purchased apps are part of what is stored in iCloud and purchased apps do not count against the allotment anyway - As far as I know.
You would want to backup to iCloud before you delete the apps. If it were me, I would also back up and sync with iTunes - I still use iTunes and I back up to both iCloud and iTunes.
The suggestion that James made would be OK for bringing the movies with you on the trip .... But you need to be able to use WiFi in order to use the device and the way that I read your question, you want to download movies to watch on the flight. So that will not work on the airline flight. It would store the content for later viewing but won't work on the flight. That is my understanding of the GoFlex drive, but you would have to investigate it further.

for some reason i have more than one apple id, not sure how, must have set one up ages ago and forgot about it. can i delete one, or merge them? how do i know im not going to lose info if i delete one account?
You can neither merge or delete them. Pick one and stop using the other. If they both have purchases associated with them you will have to keep using both.

Just started getting about 300-400 emails per day from several fraudulent Addresses to my icloud email and am not sure how to stop receiving them, or create a rule to have them all go to Junk. When unsub, I get more. Emails from my contacts are now Junk?! How do I fix this? I have over 800 emails since 5Am YESTERDAY!
First, don't unsubscribe. This only tells the spammer that your email address is valid and they will send even more.
If this is only being sent from a few specific email addresses, you can set up a rules on icloud.com similar to the image below to send them to the trash. This describes how to set up a rule: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mm6b1a3f8a. -
Hello everybody. I am a web designer (NOT a developer)
I created a form and I'm not sure how to make the 'submit' button send me the collected information.
I have used phpform.org/ to custom build a submission form. Then I opened that html in dreamweaver (so that I could edit colors, fonts, and delete the phpform.org advetisement)
Now I need to link the 'submit button' so that it will e-mail me the completed form.
(formphp.org wants me to subscribe to a servie that I pay for in order to have the form e-mailed to myself.)
(after I get the submit button linked to an e-mail I will pull the html of my completed form into Muse- but I don't think that is really relevent)
I'm sure one of you can help point me in the right direction! I can't write my own code so detailed help is appreciated!
-Brenna
The e-mail I would like the form sent to is:

</html>I'm afraid not. It's not rocket science but you need to do some coding.
You'll need to find a script (php) and save it to your local site folder. Then reference the script in your form's action attribute like so.
<form action="path/form-to-email-script.php" >
The input fields in your HTML form need to exactly match the script variables.
I'm assuming you're hosted on a Linux server which uses PHP code. Linux servers are also case sensitive, so upper case names are not the same as lower case names. It's usually best to use all lower case names in your form and script to avoid confusion.

Not sure how to get the rest of my desired results
In my first query, I am getting hits for any entry where the
value of rideDistance is greater than 99
In the first part of the second query, I am grouping the hits
from the first query together by riderId and getting a count per
rider
*** THUS if there were five hits in the first query and the
riderId were: 1, 5, 1, 1, 2
then the count for riderId 1 would be 3, riderId 5 would be 1
and riderId 2 would be 1
Now based on the riderId, I need to query another table to
pull the name that matches the riderId. But I'm not sure how to do
this. I thought maybe I could put a second select inside the second
query, but I think this has to go in a WHERE but I am not using a
WHERE in the second query just a GROUP BY
Can somebody give me some suggestions on what I might try.Life got in the way of me getting back to your answers
sooner. Thanks for all the help. I actually tried using a Join
first, but couldn't get the responses I wanted - I must have been
making an error as this time through it worked.
Now if I could ask for just a little more help. Current code
is below.
I'm taking my results and putting them into a pie chart.
Currently I get the "centuryCountByRider" as the value for
each pie slice (which is correct) and it shows the amount next to
each pie slice. I would like for it to keep the
"centuryCountByRider" as the amount (valueColumn) but show the name
of the person.
I realize I could put this in the popup box when you mouse
over each pie slice, but I really want the name shown next to each
slice. Also the exact name shown will be generated from a cfif -
cfif show name is m - show middleName, f - firstName, n - nickName. -
Not sure how i should go about creating this flash to accomplish what i need.
First let me start by saying my flash file is currently 740kb
in .swf form and I'm not done with it. I'm taking this which was
developed from another developer and trying to customize it to work
for what i need. The flash was bought from template monster. I'm
using actionscript 2.0 in the flash.
Is 740kb big for a flash file that is basically an entire
website?
I'm trying to make this flash load as fast as possible while
implementing the best practices so i can use it for future
projects. Also i would like advice on using various techniques to
accomplish some functionality.
The flash file i'm working on is basically like a brochure
for a client. It consists of "8" main pages, along with several sub
pages.
I have the following questions though.
1. Currently the navigation is on the left hand side, and has
a mouse over animation as well as sound effects with rollover and
being clicked. The mouseover effect just moves the text to the
right a little and brings it back to the original position..
However each button in is an individual movie symbol.
- Should I consolidate the navigation so it's one movie
symbol instead of 8 movie symbols on one page? Keeping in mind that
even if i do make it just 1 symbol i might need to add the 8
navigation movie symbols into that one to maintain the animation.
- Should the buttons even be movie symbols or is there a
better way this should be done?
2. Because of the text for each page, I was using adobes
built in scrolling component for the dynamic text boxes.
Considering there is more then 8 dynamic text instances converted
to graphic symbols.... Is there a more efficient way of doing this,
or is the above method just fine?
3. The flash file contains a photo gallery. Currently all the
images from the gallery are in the same flash file. I was thinking
it would be more efficient to load the images in the gallery from
external .swf files. However i'm not sure if that would be the best
method, and i'm also not sure how to correctly accomplish within
standards.
4. I would like to implement a contact form within the flash
so users can contact me.
5. I would also like to have a testimonials page where users
can submit testimonials. However i'm not sure how to create the
form, but i had an idea on displaying the text in the flash using
xml so it can be easily updated . Just not sure on the proper and
more efficient way of doing this.
6. I would also like an event calendar that displays within
the flash. Was thinking of having this loaded from an external .swf
file as well. Would like the calendar to be xml based so I can
update it myself. Don't need nothing advance, just something that
says "Busy", "Not Busy", and "Book" which would just take them back
to the contact form to book me.
I know many of you don't know who i am, but I would really
appreciate some assistance. Whether its sample flash files, links
to tutorials, advice, anything.
I really want to do all of the above, but also as i'm
learning i would like to make sure i'm doing the above in the most
efficient way possible and up to standards while also keeping the
size low. Would like to do it right the first time, so as i
continue making flash files in the future I'm not writing sloppy
actionscript coding, having sloppy timelines, and or having sloppy
structure in my .fla files.
Also i know alot of you are very busy people, and i'm not
asking for you to do the flash for me but any and all help will be
very greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for you comments, advice, and replies.
:)Wow, you're really looking to get your money's worth here. :)
I haven't read through your entire list of questions, but
I'll do what I can to help - others here will probably have
different ideas, so feel free to pick and choose which (if any - or
all) you want to integrate.
1. So far, my experience has been that the people that create
the templates on TemplateMonster have a pretty good handle on what
they are doing, and have done what they do for a pretty good
reason. Unless you are quite good at ActionScript, I probably
wouldn't make any major changes to the back end. After all, you
bought the template for a reason. If you want to move the buttons
around the stage, great - edit them to change the colors, great.
But to try to create a button array may be more than you want to
bite into here. That said, it can be done. I've done it. If you
want a sample of the code, drop me an e-mail and I'll send it to
you. FYI: I only do AS3.0 at this point. If your template is in AS2
then one of the other Flash gods would be better suited for code
samples.
1a. The buttons are movie clips for a reason - flexibility.
Leave them as movie clips unless you really like migraines.
2. I hate having to convert text to symbols, but sometimes it
is the most efficient (or only) way to do things. If you want to do
any tweens with the text, it has to be a symbol.
3. You can load the photos from external SWF's or you can
load the JPG's directly using XML. If you are using AS3, I know
that there is tight, simple integration with XML. I'd review a
couple tutorials on XML from some place like www.tutorialized.com
to get a feel for it. Also, look up "Working with XML" in the Flash
Help file (F1). Once you have decided on an approach, come back
here with specific questions and you will get good answers.
4. Doable. Search these forums for "Email from Text Box".
This was covered several times in the last couple of days.
5. XML is one option. You can even have XML give a photo of
the person doing the testimonial and load it all into a single
page. What you can do with this is limited only by your
imagination. This is a very broad question.
6. Someone posted a message about a calendar on here today.
Search for "Calendar" and I'm sure you will get some ideas from
there. Also (and again) www.tutorialized.com is a great resource
for general code and ideas.
You're right, we don't know you. And guess what? That doesn't
matter. We are equal opportunity abusers here. :) I mean that with
the kindest grin.
The things you have asked are very broad in nature and
therefore are quite difficult to give specific answers. We are
always happy to help you when you get stuck, and even to spend a
great deal of time walking you through a specific topic. However,
what you've asked here would take a six-week course to answer to
the level you will need. Grab some free code. Try it out. Play with
it. Break it. The Flash gods will rescue you. But remember, the
more specific your question, the better answer you will get.
I hope this helps (at least some). -
I'm having problems (1) selecting onscreen text, (2) resizing menu boxes and selecting menues with the cursor. I'm not able to select menus and move them. I'm not sure how to correct this.
1) This is because of software version 1.1. See this
thread for some options as to how to go back to 1.0,
which will correct the problem...
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=3754
59&tstart=0
2) This tends to happen after videos. Give the iPod a
minute or two to readjust. It should now be more
accurate.
3) This?
iPod shows a folder icon with exclamation
point
4) Restore the iPod
5) Try these...
iPod Only Shows An Apple Logo and Will Not Start
Up
iPod Only Shows An Apple Logo
I think 3,4, and 5 are related. Try the options I
posted for each one.
btabz
I just noticed that one of the restore methods you posted was to put it into Disk Mode First rather than just use the resstore straight off, I Have tried that and seems to have solved the problem, If it has thank you. previously I have only tried just restoring it skipping this extra step. Hope my iPod stays healthy, if it doesnt its a warrenty job me thinks any way thanks again -
I upgraded my Firefox and my home page (which I love) is GONE. Not sure how to get it back. I still have my bookmarks though. Thanks in advance for helping me.
If that didn't help then see this article for more suggestions:
* [[Firefox has just updated tab shows each time you start Firefox]] -
Lets say X is a shell command that will get you into X-shell upon execution. There's a command, a module, Y that can be run only in X-shell. How can I run Y from a C++ code? I need to somehow tell my app that the environment it'll be dealing with will be X-shell and not the Linux shell. I haven't dealt with a case like that before and don't know how to incorporate IPC here. Would I take X-shell as the parent process and the spawned child as module Y? Not sure... I should point out that it's not possible to do something like "X-shell -c Y"; first X-shell has to be executed. Once in the X-shell environment, now Y can be called.
A word of wisdom is appreciated.Thanks. I'm a very basic Linux user and have done most of my apps in Windows... Could you please explain a bit more -in a more beginner/intermediate level- on how to achieve that (in C++)? I'm somewhat familiar with getenv and setenv etc but not sure how to implement your suggestion using them.

Hi,
It would help to know which OS on your Mac you are running as this will tell me which version of iChat you are using.
iChat can use AIM names
It can uses certain Apple IDs issued by Apple as Valid Screen Names if the password is kept to 16 characters or less as this is the AIM Server limit.
These are @mac.com name and @Me.com names.
@me.com names from iCloud will only work in iChat 6 and Messages (Lion and Mountain Lion)
iChat 4 and later iChat 5 had button to "Get an iChat Account"
Where the Button led you to depended on which Option you selected in the Drop down.
Soon after iChat 5 came out AIM moved their Login page so the link there did not work.
With MobileMe ending Apple closed the link to the @Mac.com (free) Registration page.
Recently (since June 30th and the end on MobileMe last paid for period) this page has also gone.

Having problems downloading. OS is LINEX and I'm not sure how to load itunes with it.
Agreed. No native linux support. The only ways you could run iTunes with a primary linux system would be to a) dual boot, b) virtualize Windows with VirtualBox, VMware, etc., or c) attempt to run iTunes in Wine (which doesn't usually work very well). Dual boot would give you the benefit of complete support and usage of hardware and software, but virtualizing is a bit more convenient, since you would not have to reboot your linux host.
