Not sure if I set this up correctly.

I purchased an external hard drive from the apple store. They said all I had to do was to plug it in and it would back up my computer without me needing to do anything. They didn't have one set up in the store so that they could show me.
It does hum along but I decided to look at it (clicked on the TM icon) to make sure that my photos were being backed up and I don't see them. I have them all in iphoto. When TM is opened, the iphoto icon is dimmed.
Did I miss something? Am I supposed to make folders on the ehd for the photos and my files to back up into?

It sounds like you may have confused Time Capsule with Time Machine.
Time Capsule is a backup device and Time Machine is a software program to allow your computer to make backup copies on most drives.
If you have an external drive (not a Time Capsule) attached to your computer, you can use Time Machine to backup your computer.
Open System Preferences and click on Time Machine. You will select the name of the hard drive that you have attached to your computer for backups.
Time Machine will make a complete copy of your computer on its first backup, so this may take several hours depending on how much data you have on your computer. After that, Time Machine will backup any changes that you have made on your computer each hour automatically. It consolidates these hourly backups into daily backups and daily backups into weekly backups so you can literally go "back in time" using Time Machine to a prior date and see how your computer looked at that time.
If you accidentally delete a file today, you can always go back a few days to when the file was still on your computer and then "restore" it to the present.

[SOLVED] KDE will not start, not sure if I set it up correctly

I installed ArchLinux today and I've been looking through the Wiki to get things setup.
In the Desktop Enviornment page it says to install the Xorg server first before installing an enviornment, so I installed xorg-server with: pacman -S xorg-server
I edited /etc/rc.conf to include 'dbus' in the Daemon array
I installed KDE with: pacman -S kde
I edited /etc/inittab to comment out:
#id:3:initdefault:
#x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/xdm -nodaemon
and uncomment:
id:5:initdefault:
x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/kdm -nodaemon
as it said to on the KDE page.
Then I restarted and used 'root' as login and all I saw was the terminal.
I'm not sure if I missed anything (I read through the KDE, Desktop Environment, Xorg, and DisplayManager pages) or if I just did something wrong.

First, you shouldn't try to login to X as root. Login as your user.
Also, I'd suggest following the beginners guide through testing TWM to make sure you've installed X correctly before you try to get KDE running.
After you've made it through those two steps (or if either fails), come back with the error messages or output you get in the attempt.

The first thing to try is changing your DNS settings - and for that you need to open System Preferences, then the
Network section.
In Network - click on Advanced - then the DNS tab
under DNS servers - use the + button to enter two extra lines
either these, from google dns
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
or from OpenDNS
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
then click OK & then 'Apply'
You would need to do that seperately for the Cable (Ethernet) settings and Wireless (Airport)

When I check on the phone itself (iCloud and App Store settings) the Apple ID is correct. I'm not sure where else to check.
Whilst setting up the phone, it prompted me to register, which I did. Then when connecting to my laptop through iTunes it prompted me again so I registered again. I even got a confirmation email to the email address associated with my Apple ID that the registration was successful.
How can I add my iPhone 5s to the list of devices on the correct Apple ID?

I set up my new HP Descjet 3054A . I had a problem becouse Apple give me CD as a driver. The thing was that CD wasn good for this printer becouse it was old software:) I had to go to Apple store so the specialist had to download me he wright driver. Becouse I didnt wannet to screw this up . When he downloaded driver I fired it up at house and thingworks perfect. The thing is when you download all the software from HP side . Then you have to connect your MAC to printer via USB . Fallow the instructions it should works. Worked for me. Good Luck!

When using Connection Doctor to see what is could be causing the issue, look for the red dots to let you know what is wrong. Then all you have to do is correct that information. You can double click on the section that is giving you issue and it will take you there. Most issues could be just password being entered incorrectly. Take a look at the article below to walk you through troubleshooting issues with Mail.

Go to Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Tap the name of the email account. If you don't see a bar labeled "Advance" near the bottom, Tap Account. Tap Advanced. Under Incoming Settings, there should be an option to Use SSL. If it is ON, tap it to turn it off.

Not sure where to ask this- printing multiple files with file names

Apologies if there was a better place to ask this question- I'm not sure which program I should be using to achieve what I'd like to do and I'm not sure if it's even possible. I'm currently working for a publishing house preparing images that will eventually be printed inside books. Files come to me in a wide variety of formats. I save them as either tiff or eps. These files (the tiffs and the eps) will eventually be sent along to someone that is doing layout work for the book and then to the printers. Before that happens however I need to provide the editor with hardcopies of the images that will be published so that they can review them. Having the editors look at digital versions of the files is not currently an option. Our current workflow (not designed by me) entails entering all the images for any given book into an InDesign template. Then in Indesign I have to enter some information about the images (their numerical designation, their file format). Then we print the .indd file for editorial review. I find this process incredibly time consuming and tedious and I'm looking for a way to avoid it all together.
What I would like to be able to do is select a folder of images (tiffs and eps only) and print them at 100% (no resizing, one image per page) with the file name at the bottom of the page. Due to the number of images I'm responsible for, this could save me several hours of tedious work a week and would allow me to devote more time to producing a quality product. I thought I had found a solution using the 'contact sheet II' tool in adobe bridge. However, this rasterizes the eps files and makes them look unprofessional. An hour and a half of googling this issue has taken me to numerous dead ends. I wonder if there might be some way to do this quickly in indesign (at which I am a complete novice) or possibly via an automated illustrator function.

I appreciate the reply. I'm not sure that I will be able to convince the powers that be to drop the EPS format. I'm fairly certain that the printer, which the press has a long-standing relationship with, expects TIFF and EPS files exclusively. In addition, I'm not sure if I'm misreading what you're saying, or if you misunderstood something I said. Typically, the EPS format looks great and prints fine through illustrator or via InDesign (in other words, it doesn't usually look unprofessional). I use TIFF for photos or illustrations and EPS for charts or graphs (basically, in any instance I have to set type). The problem is that the only way I've found to speed up the production of hardcopies for editorial review ('contact sheet II' ) runs through bridge and photoshop, ruining the appearance of the EPS files.
I wonder if there's a way to run a similar batch process (may not be the correct wording) through illustrator such that both the TIFF and EPS files look clear, print at 100%, print one image per page, and the file name is included on the printout. Basically, a one image per page contact sheet. To do this now, I have to place every single file individually into InDesign and manually enter information about the files.

Recently purchased a Dell Studio w/ Vista Ultimate SP Home and opted to also get the external sound blaster X-fi xtreme audio notebook card but i am not sure if its working as it should since the laptop speakers sound the same with and w/out the card... not sure if my settings are correct on my laptop or maybe this card was a waste since others have told me it only works with headphones....
i installed the cd that came with the card and the card has a blue led light when inserted into the slot reader on my laptop...
this is my first laptop and first sound card so not very familiar with how it all works so any and all help is much needed and appreciated....isthere a way to check and see if the card is actually working and improving the sound quality?
when i click on the sound icon in my tray it says speaker/headphones IDT High Def Audio CODEC...

I made my original Apple ID a long time ago, and basically, the e-mail account I had used it with was deleted. I've made a new Apple ID since. My i-pod is still connected to the old ID, and I'm not sure how to change it. I also don't remember the information I had used for the original ID. My i-pod won't transfer all of my music unless I "authorize the computer" and I can't do that with my new ID becuause it "hasn't been used with the computer" yet. I have no idea what to do now. Please help?

External hard drive, sharing, itunes? Not sure where to post this?

sorry guys but i'm not sure where this belongs, but anyway. I just bought my macbook and purchased a Western Digital harddrive ( external ) anyway I have like 80gigs of pics and music and want to get it from my iPod back onto the computer. Not a problem............My problem is that I can't put it directly onto the external drive I first need to put it on the macbook then transfer it to the externak hardrive. When I do this is winds up on my mac HD and also on my external hardrive. I only want it in one place. Ok, my ultimate goal right now is to buy an iMac which I'm doing this weekend. Got rid of my PC's ( Go Apple !) LOL. I want to put all my music ,videos,pics, movies on the external hardrive and be able to share it with both my Macbook and my imac. I simply want to be able to access my everything from both pc's but get it all from the EHD. Right now it's all on my macbook and I want to free up the space, plus learn how to do it for the future. Sorry to ramble. So far I've posted a few times and someone always comes through. Everyone here is awesome, it's like another planet compared to the PC world.

Put your iTunes folder on the eternal hard drive, and make a alias to it from your home directory on the MacBook (Cmd-L). Do the same when you get the iMac.
I didn't quite get how the two computers are sharing the hard drive, or maybe you'll put the hard drive on the iMac and share the library. There's a lot of ways to make this work. You made a good decision.
