Hello all,
I am currently writing a web service using SOAP to connect to the google API i have the search working and it is returning the reults in an XML format and then extracts relevant information to a destop file for the user to easily view.
Anyway I have two queries:
1)
I need to put a timer on the program so that once the search button is pressed it will continuosly search for new web pages (eg: if a new car comes out it'll take a while for new pages to appear) after a specific interval say about 10 minutes!!!
2)
Is there any way that I can add doSpellingSuggestion along with the doGoogleSearch so that it will perform any search and perform a spell check on the program and if its ok then perform the doGoogleSearch!!!

I need help deploying my JSP and Servlet using Tomcat. I am able to call the html page, but the html sends a request to a java servlet

that for some reason cannot be found...
Error:
The requested resource (/servlet/com.cibc.cpse.flatfile.controllers.TableServlet) is not available. So the JSP page can't be displayed...
Any ideas of what the problem might be?

Are you sure the class is located correctly in your tomcat webapps directory (take a look at how they have placed the examples if you're not sure).

Compare PDF Docs in Preview (not sure were to post)

I need to compare to dumb PDF docs to look for changes that have been made. I was wondering if there is an "elegant" way to do this with preview. Not sure were to post this question. Thank you in advance for any help.

You mean a more elegant way than side-by-side?
You might try this compare utility. I haven't tested it myself and there are no reviews. It is also shareware but may allow a one-time to test.
Or this one which seems to ask for a donation of one buck.

External hard drive, sharing, itunes? Not sure where to post this?

sorry guys but i'm not sure where this belongs, but anyway. I just bought my macbook and purchased a Western Digital harddrive ( external ) anyway I have like 80gigs of pics and music and want to get it from my iPod back onto the computer. Not a problem............My problem is that I can't put it directly onto the external drive I first need to put it on the macbook then transfer it to the externak hardrive. When I do this is winds up on my mac HD and also on my external hardrive. I only want it in one place. Ok, my ultimate goal right now is to buy an iMac which I'm doing this weekend. Got rid of my PC's ( Go Apple !) LOL. I want to put all my music ,videos,pics, movies on the external hardrive and be able to share it with both my Macbook and my imac. I simply want to be able to access my everything from both pc's but get it all from the EHD. Right now it's all on my macbook and I want to free up the space, plus learn how to do it for the future. Sorry to ramble. So far I've posted a few times and someone always comes through. Everyone here is awesome, it's like another planet compared to the PC world.

Put your iTunes folder on the eternal hard drive, and make a alias to it from your home directory on the MacBook (Cmd-L). Do the same when you get the iMac.
I didn't quite get how the two computers are sharing the hard drive, or maybe you'll put the hard drive on the iMac and share the library. There's a lot of ways to make this work. You made a good decision.

Not sure if I am In the Right Place but I Will Give it a Shot

Hello- I have been with Verizon for about 4 years. I still have the same phone I got when I initially signed up. It is a MOTO with everything turned off except incoming and outgoing calls. I made a "big move" to a 3G USB device because the thought of being able to drive and get on the internet seemed cool. that worked OK but when the MIFi came out, I went for that in hopes when I was home I could put it out on the porch and not get dropped calls so much.
I now am up for the New Every Two for the cell phone and the data device. I heard also that they are doing away with New Every Two so I might be too late. I would also like to take a big jump for me and get a smartphone or the iPhone.
I am not good at all at picking this technical stuff up. I am on my 3 MacBook pro, and still I mess it up for doing something stupid. the 4G LTE seems cool but I can't et a good picture of what it looks like in the Salt Lake City area. On my computer it looks like most of the Salt Lake City area is 4G extended and some 3G which I heard can be a nightmare by dropping when you move from 3G to 4GLTE. Somebody emails me sending me the map and saying it was all burgundy being 4G LTE tops with minimal $G extended. I do not see how they got this but the map they sent me it looks like that.
I am not clear if the 4G LTE services and products are just making their debut or I should wait awhile until the network expands some. I was under the impression by the 4G USB device and the bill inserts that Verizon was full force selling their 4GLTE products.
since I have a New Every Two (if it is still good) for my MOTO phone and the MIFI2200, I can get $35 for the phone and $50 for the MIFI. In looking at the products I saw the Droid X which has outstanding reviews except for the battery. One post said he bought an extended battery and it made a big difference. If I would like to get rid of the MIFi and get a new phone, would the Droid X be something that would take over for the phone and the internet and the 3G connection? Would there be any reason to wait until this same phone came out in 4G and once I find out where Salt Lake City, UT is with the 4G network, get a 3G phone?
I do not have a natural ability to use these devices, in fact I am not sure what exactly this phone would take over. it sounded like it would be a phone, text, skype phone (not sure what a skype phone is but I do know skype) an internet device all in 3G.
any help in this major question. I do not expect anybody to tell me what to do. I posted this type of question before & I got nailed by a few guys for wanting someone else to make up my mind for me. I am looking for suggestions, recommendations, what this phone actually does since i am not familiar with the droid OS.

You can upgrade the RAM and Hard Drive yourself and save money. It is extremely easy and there are several instructional videos on the internet. Plus there's the friendly help available by the kind folks in this forum. If you want to have Apple or a service center do this for you, you will have to get a quote from them. Apple does not sell notebook drives.
Depending on your MacBook, you can increase your RAM to 2GB-4GB. The HD possibilities go up to 500GB. Your most expensive venture will be Leopard.

Template Bug? Not sure where to post. I have a sample.

It seems that Dreamweaver 2004 MX (version 7.0.1 on Windows
XP) gets confused if you create a page with invalid HTML. I've seen
some other posts on this, but I'm not sure if it's been fixed.
If you do the following, you'll get the popup warning "You
have made changes to code that is not marked as editable.. blah
blah blah" even though you did not make changes to uneditable
regions.
1. Make a remote site with a local web directory. On my
machine, I run Apache (
http://localhost), treat it as a
remote site, and copy files to Apache's local directory.
2. Create a template with 1 editable region: EditRegion3
3. Create a page using the template.
4. Enter in a <form> </form>tag and some text.
5. Select Put for the file.
Works fine at this point.
To invoke the bug:
1. Remove the </form> tag.
2. Select put.
3. The InstanceBeginEditable name="EditRegion3" tag turns
color: from gray to black.
4. Close and reopen the file.
5. Make a minor edit.
6. Select Put.
7. Presto - warning dialogue shows.
I attached both versions. By the way, I was able to "fix" the
broken edit region by closing (not saving changes) and reopening
the file, adding back the missing </form> and saving. Then
Put works with no error message.

So lemme understand this. If you hack a page so that it
contains invalid
code, you get a template error? Is that a surprise?
Anyhow, there are several workarounds, and I see that you
have found one.

I have a document that I would like to copy cut and paste into an email.
Everytime I paste it is automatically double spaced and a pain to edit to single spacing.
I have checked the default settings and they are all single.

Not sure if it's set up right

I'm kinda new to this so I'm trying to set it all up. I have read through tons and tons of messages and I think I have my class path and path all set up correctly. But I'm going to paste them all here to to verify. I am coming up with some errors that I just can't seem to figure out. Thanks for any help.
First problem is when I have when I compile the following code I come up with an error that says, "class Trial is public, should be declared in a file named Trial.java"

Plus if I take "public" from "public class Trial" it will compile but it wont run. I alway get the message "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError"
Here are my CLASSPATH. I do believe I have added some that might not need to be there. But with all I've read I figured it couldn't hurt.
CLASSPATH = C:\j2sdk1.4.2_09\bin;C:\j2sdk1.4.2_09\jre;C:\j2sdk1.4.2_09\jre\bin;C:\j2sdk1.4.2_09\jre\lib
and my PATH is C:\j2sdk1.4.2_09\bin

Does that look right?Absolutely not. Take this advice: Get rid of the CLASSPATH environment variable. Always specify the classpath on the command-line, like this:
javac -classpath (your classpath for this app here) files to compile here
java -classpath (ditto) YourMainClassHere
The classpath will never need to include the bin nor jre folders.
Your PATH however, needs to - hence the problem below:
when I tried to compile with
javac Trial.java it says "javac' is not recognized
as an internal or external command operable program
or batch file"Read the installation instructions more carefully this time around. They talk about modifying your PATH.

Not sure whether to post this under iMac display or iPhoto...

I don't know what's the problem, so I'll try here first.
I have a brand new (2 days old) 2.4GHz iMac with 1GB RAM.
First: A stuck pixel appeared yesterday - only the second day after I'd set the thing up. I fixed it today with JScreenFix, and I don't think it's come back yet... is this normal? Stuck pixels right out of the box?
Second: Today, I was editing a picture in iPhoto and at some point, I tried adjusting the contrast and the computer froze. So I pressed the power button to put it to sleep, waited for the computer to go to sleep, woke it back up and tried again. It worked for a minute and froze again, so I put it back to sleep and woke it back up. I tried one more time and the picture I was working - a photo that was captured in black and white - turned bright pink (screenshot). That scared me, and I put the computer back to sleep. A minute later I pressed the return key to wake it up, and a bunch of horizontal grey and black lines appeared on the screen (photo). When I looked at it closely, I saw there were a bunch of colored pixels in there as well (photo). I heard the sound of me signing on to iChat, which was weird, because I have it set to log me out when I put it to sleep and ask for a password when I wake it back up.
By this point, I was sort of freaked out. I put the computer back to sleep again and woke it back up. I logged in fine, but then I realized my Dock was missing the "shelf." (Screenshot, Photo 1, Photo 2)
I turned off the computer and tried to reset the PRAM. I got two startup chimes, but then it got stuck at the grey screen. After ten minutes I finally had to hold down the power button to turn it off, and then I turned it back on.
It's working okay now, but I'm wondering if this is a software issue (something's wrong with iPhoto?), or maybe a driver issue? My iMac is totally up to date... Has this happened to anyone else? Should I call tech support?

If the pic in iPhoto has a GreyScale colour profile, then convert it to RGB and you’ll have no problems with it. Iphoto supports only RGB pics - cameras, after all, shoot RGB. You can convert the pic to an RGB profile using the Tools menu in Preview. (Tip: use sRGB).
I’ve yet to hear of Sleeping a Mac as a solution for anything. I would have restarted.

I have been given a task to complete a video for a conference. I am receiving video footage from all over the place and in all kinds of formats. I am using Adobe Premier Master Suite CS4 Windows 7 64 bit. My pc is more than suitable - exceeding all Adobe standards and built by an Adobe recommended vendor. I have no problems with the pc when working with DV tape. I use it all the time creating all types of projects.
The project is SD 720 x 486. The output will be to DVD. NTSC, not PAL.
I have recieved so far....

.avi 720 x 576
.avi 1920 x 1080
.avi 720 x 480
I've even received Hi-8 tape!
Most everything else is DV tape and I'm having absolutely no problem capturing, editing, etc etc Everything here works just fine. Audio - great. Video - great. Yes I'm importing the files via firewire. Wish everything else were so simple!
So, is there a reference that I can use to find out how to "convert?" all these things to a standard SD 720 x 486 .avi file that Adobe will love and cherish?

I doubt that the W-4 has a submit button. If you are using Reader XI (actually the topic of the Reader forum, not this one), you should be able to save it and then print and deliver. If it is set to be submitted by the browser, then it may be your Reader and the browser are not talking properly. If there is a generic URL that you can provide that has the W-4, we might be able to give you more info. A lot depends on what your particular form looks like. Hand carrying it should always be an option.

Tar problem - Not sure where to ask

This is my post in this forum & I'm not sure where to post this.
I have just installed Arch in my office system 2 days ago. I was extracting tomcat 5.0.28 official tar.gz in my arch system and it gave this error:
tar: A lone zero block at 82109
The tar version in my system is
tar (GNU tar) 1.15.1
I extracted the same archive in our server where the tar version is:
tar (GNU tar) 1.13.25
and it gave no error
The error/not error is same with either -x or -t flag.
Is it a bug in the new version of tar (I think so, arch should have nothing special about it).
What should I do can anybody suggest?

Yes the size does match, so I think the content may be OK.
Last time I found the directory size mismatch using du -s
but I guess its because the two directory was in two different fs
in server it was xfs, in my home it was ext3.
By the way is there any way to verfiy equivalency of two directories. I know
of md5sum but that works file by file.

JSP default error page - not sure where this goes

So I am not sure where the jsp section of the forums is but Ill post here ....
Any ways I dont like the look and feel of the current default error page when you throw an error on a jsp so i created my own cutom error page and set that as isErrorPage="true" then in the header.jsp I placed errorPage="error.jsp."
It doesnt work.
I have a jsp, a servlet and the error page. the jsp sends information to the servlet which sends the result back. if that servlet throws an error then it should be displayed on the error.jsp page where I told it to...How ever - it just goes to the default error page.
How do I fix this.
Sorry if this doesn't belong here not sure where else to put it. and in theory - it is java.

And even if it was possible, it's not something that could be recommended.
A normal way would be to catch the exceptions in your servlet and handle them there (log the exception and redirect to an error page).

Photoshop Elements 3 dialog box with picture and patent numbers - not sure how to get it fixed. It's in an infinite loop - have rebooted to no avail. Should I update to a higher version after deleting this version?

Tried the resetting options, but can't even get to preferences - nothing
will open. May have to find my Version 3 CD, or delete Photoshop 3 and get
a higher version.
