  • I have a second generation nano. I have several podcasts in my library that will not sync to the nano.  These podcasts all have a half cirlce icon to the left of the name in my itunes library.  Whats up?

I have a second generation Nano.  I have several podcasts in my itunes library that will not sync to the device.  These podcasts all have a half circle icon that appears to the left of the title.  Whats up?

Well I could do that but that kinda defeats the purpose of paying $600 bucks for this piece of **** that I'm supposed to be able to dump 32 gigs (well u know what I mean) of music on and manage automatically the through this supposedly wonderful piece of software that's supposed to do most of that for you. Okay I get that computers are only as smart as the people using them... Which apparently is not that smart in this case... But ya thanks for the advice that my two year old daughter could have given me. Anyone else?

  • I have purchased an audio book which appears downloaded in my purchases but will not sync with my nano

i have recently purchased an audio book which has been downloaded and charged to my account .the book appears under "book" heading,in i tunes but won't sync to my nano.I have tried restoring the nano,re installing i tunes on my pc.any suggestions?

The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.

  • I just got an ipod nano and i went to use itunes. I noticed that my boyfriend already had account on my computer. I was able to put in my email and purchase a few songs however it will not sync to my nano. I went to devices and it will not sync.

I just got an ipod nano and noticed i had Itunes on my computer. My boyfriend had downloaded it for him a while ago on the computer with his own music. I went on the account and downloaded some music but it will not let me sync it to my nano. I believe that must be because it is his account. I went to the control pannel to uninstall the program (with his permission hehe) and re downloaded it. All of his stuff came back up. I am not able to sync anything to my nano thanks for any input!

Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes has no affect on the media on the computer or the account it is linked to.
If the media was purchased under another iTunes account, then it is permanently tied to that account.

  • Playlists will not sync onto iPod nano 7th gen

Since the very beginning of iPods, I subscribe to a number of podcasts that refresh in iTunes automatically. Once a day I transfer the "recently added" podcasts to a created playlist for my daily listening. This allows me to cull out music downloads from the pure podcast list. Since "podcasts" have been separated as an app, iTunes made it difficult to accomplish this. With iTunes 12 and my current iPod 7th generation, I can find no tip that will allow me to continue the practice. I want a continuously playing playlist of the most recently downloaded subscribed podcasts that can easily be refreshed and transferred to my iPod nano 7th gen at the end of each day.

There is no Apply button there, until you change something.  Until you make a change to a setting on that screen, the button (where the Apply button is located) says Sync.
It is somewhat difficult to understand what you are describing.  The Recently Added playlist is a smart playlist.  It comes "pre-installed" with iTunes.  However, if you right-click on it and select Edit Smart Playlist, you will see that the two rules for populating it are
Date Added - in the last - 2 - weeks
Genre - is not - Podcast
Therefore, if that is the playlist you are referring to, it intentionally excludes podcast episodes.  If you want a new smart playlist that lists podcast episodes downloaded in the last two week, you can start with the Recently Added playlist.  Don't modify that playlist.  Right-click on it and select Duplicate.  Name it (the duplicate) something like "Recently Added Podcasts" (or whatever you want).  Right-click on it and select Edit Smart Playlist.  Change the rules so that they are
Date Added - in the last - 2 - weeks <- You can change the number of weeks as desired.
Media Kind - is - Podcast
NOTE:  I suggest using Media Kind instead of Genre, because it more accurately identifies items that are podcasts.  Something can be a "podcast" without Genre set to Podcast.  But everything iTunes shows as a podcast MUST have Media Kind set to Podcast.
That new smart playlist ONLY shows all podcast episodes downloaded in the last two weeks.  You can then sync that playlist, if you want them all, or use it as the source to manually update your "daily podfest" playlist, and then select that playlist on the iPod's Podcasts screen (as described in my previous reply).

  • IPod will not Sync with iTunes Nano

I want to put the songs I purchased from iTunes onto my iPod.  Unfortunately the "sync" is now grayed out even though iTunes is reading the iPod.  Meaning, I can add my iPod songs into my iTunes Dashboard, but the songs do not transfer the other way.
I use my iPod, and make song purchases, from two separate computers.  Both computers are registered to my account.
I never had this problem with older versions of iTunes.

    Hey Biglou1,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your iPod nano(3rd generation) is not recognized in iTunes. The following troubleshooting assistant may provide a resolution:

  • Why can I not sync my iPod Nano 3rd Gen to my iTunes 9.1.1?

My daughter mistakenly downloaded the latest iTunes version which does not work with my older iPod Nano 3rd gen.  Before all this happened I was running version 9.1.1 which was working beautifully.  After uninstalling the updated version and reinstalling the 9.1.1 version, I cannot restore nor sync my music to the iPod Nano.  I would just be happy having things the way they were previously.  Any tips???  Thanks.

Go to the Apple icon in the upper left corner and select 'About this Mac' - it will show you which version of OSX you are using.

  • Ipod nano will not sync movies, ipod nano will not sync movies

trying to sync my daughter's nano and movies are now not recognized (nor are tv shows)...our music/movies have been added to the cloud- does that matter?

Windows XP   8gb 2nd gen Ipod Nano (Black), 4gb 1st gen Nano (Black)
Ok take a loof at this article. It goes through a series of possible things that may be going on as to why your iPod is not showing in windows and/or iTunes. Some won't apply at all and some may. Note that at the begining of the article it suggests you check and go through all things in the article to make sure. The final suggestion is that your iPod may need servicing or replacement. After going through everything in the suggestion and it does not work I would go with that idea and suggest that you contact Apple (unless you purchased at a retailer and are still within their return period...then I would suggest taking it back to that retailer for an exchange.).
    Good luck!

  • A playlist I made on my computer will not sync to my Nano

I am trying to sync a new playlist to my Shuffle (from a new computer) and it will not add it. All my other music is there. I have already added this new computer to my Itunes account and can play the playlist on my computer.

I'll ask that your topic be moved to the iPod nano category.  Since you actually called it a "nano" in the subject line, people there won't immediately assume you posted in the wrong category...
Since you confused it with a shuffle, is it the squarish clip-on 6th gen nano?
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano/6th_generation/
Or the current 7th gen model?
I can help with your question.  You probably need to set up (or update) the iPod's settings for automatic syncing.  The latest iTunes may hide the sidebar.  To show the sidebar (along left side of window), from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  The iPod appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES.
Select the iPod in iTunes, so that you see the row of buttons that starts with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This is the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
NOTE:  If there are songs on the iPod that are not in your iTunes library (on the computer), stop here and post back...  If you set up automatic syncing, songs that are on the iPod that are not in your iTunes library will be lost.
Check the box for Sync Music (if not already checked).  To sync specific playlists to the iPod, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Below that, checkmark the playlist or playlists you want to sync to the iPod, under Playlists.  You can also choose from the other lists, if desired.  Using playlists that you create and maintain in your iTunes library is a convenient way to set up syncing for an iPod.
When you click Apply, the songs in your selection sync to the iPod.  Going forward, any changes you make to those playlists in the iTunes library get synced to the iPod automatically, the next time you connect the iPod or click the Sync button.

  • Sync IPad and nano on itunes

Since I got my I pad I can not sync with my nano on I tunes. How do I sync both up?

Neither device should have any effect on the other; you shouldn't have any problem.
Can you give us more details as to exactly what problems you're experiencing or what errors you've seen?

  • ITunes will not recognize IPod Or Nano

Help - i have spent the entire day reading and trying different options to no avail.
I have a Dell Latitude D620 Microsft XP. I have not synced to my nano in 2 months. Just purchsed an IPod Classic for my girlfriend.
I connected the nano to the computer. ITunes comes up as it should, but does not show the device. Windows does recognize it.
    Ipod - samething.
I can not get Itunes to show the devices so that I can sync.
I have tried uninstalling and installing ITunes several times.
I give up and I am at the point of returning the IPod.

Kristine, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried that already, to no avail, and have also reinstalled iTunes and trashed the AppleMobileDeviceHelper files per the instructions..

  • TS1967 After 'updating' the newest iTunes version, I cannot sync my iPod Nano!  It does not show up anymore.

After 'updating' the newest iTunes version, I cannot sync my iPod Nano!  The 'old' version recognized and showed in icon to sync, but the newest version does not.  Is there a way to sync the older iPods?

  • New IPOD Nano will not sync.  iTunes recognizes it, I think.  It knows its there and says I can transfer purchases from it but it will not let me sync it to my existing itunes.

I received a new IPOD nano for CHristmas.  Itunes shows it there on summary, it is showing with the eject symbol.
However, when I go to file/sync, it allows me to transfer purchases but not sync it.  It also does not show up in my playlist like my older NANO does.
I have reset, I have toggled security on and off.  I am current on the software on both my IPOD and ITunes.

I was having the same problem...plugged in my new device and although I was able to set it up and it was recognized in iTunes, hit the sync button and nothing...even when it said it was syncing, still nothing. I am not sure this will work for you but I did two things that were suggested in this forum in combination with one another.
First, I plugged my Nano into different USB port on my laptop from the one I was using. when I reconnected, my devie again was displayed in the top right corner. I clicked on it and the summary page appeared. The one thing I hadn't done is go to the "music" tab. When I arrived there I found that the "sync music" tab was unchecked for some reason. I checked the block and instantly the download started.
As I said, I don't know if you have tried this or if it will even work for you but after an hour of frustration...I felt a little silly that it was something so simple I had negelected and thought I would share.
    Good  luck!
