Not the Mac I ordered

I ordered my MacPro on 8/9 with the AT1900XT and Airport card and it finally came today!
I took the option at setup to transfer my data from my old iMac to my new MacPro and was really looking forward to working with it tonight.
But when it went to register the mac, it couldn't connect. Odd...
So I go out to the System Profiler and look at my hardware information.
No Airport information found ???
Graphics/Displays - NVIDIA geForce 7300 GT ???
Bluetooth is there but I didn't order Bluetooth ???
This doesn't look like what I ordered and waited 6 weeks for!
And the Apple customer support line is closed for the day and I have to work tomorrow.
I could cry.

I can commiserate with you. When I ordered my MacPro it was said that it would be 2-4 days. At the end of that time it wasn't shipped because customer support said they had put my credit card through and their "system" rejected it. When we called to tell them that there was no reason it shouldn't work they tried it manually and they said it worked fine and the rejection was a flaw in their system. They said it would be shipped that Saturday and we got an email with Saturday as the shipping date and Monday (we had paid for next day shipment). as the delivery date''.
Monday we find out that they don't ship on Saturday. Ok, that's cool, Monday is alright. On Monday they ship with a delivery date of Tuesday. On Tuesday Fedex tracking never says "on vehicle for delivery". Fedex says they can't find it at their facility. They send messages to all their drivers to see if any of them have the MacPro. We call Apple and they say they will initiate an investigation and we're sure it will take days, weeks. We thought we would never see this computer.
At end of day we find out one of the drivers who services the Apple store thought the package was for the Apple Store and takes it without scanning it in. He called the Fedex people and arranged to give it to a driver in our area. We did finally get it. I was really surprised.
I must say Fedex was really good about this and kept in touch with us all day. Most of the Apple people were very responsive, except for one rep who wouldn't let us speak to a superviser.
The aggrevation was worth it, though, because the MacPro is a fabulous machine.

  • I have a macbook and it is a dual boot system, I would like to be able to see the mac side of the system on a larger monitor.  I can hook to a hdmi cable and see the pc side, but not the mac side, any suggestions?

I have a macbook that I bought second hand.  The mac has a dual boot system with bootcamp on one side and snow leopard on the other.  I would like to be able to hook to a larger hdmi monitor so that in both systems I could see better since on the leopard side the computer has PS4.  I have purchased the dvi to HDMI accessory and purchased the HDMI to DVI cable, and can see fine on the bootcamp side, but nothing on the leopard side.  Could somebody help me with configuring things so that it will see both side?
Also on a minor note, I need to purchase a new battery for this item and don't know which one to purchase.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially with the display/monitor issue.
    Thanks Sue
ps sorry but the operating system is OS X

When you try to use the Mac side on your external monitor do you get a blank screen or do you see the aurora background?
It would help to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.

  • Exchange Calendar and iCal : it works with the iPhone, not the Macs

I use iCal with Google Calendar, either on my Macs and iPhone and I am plenty satisfied.
I also need, for my job, tu use an exchange (2007) calendar. It works fin on my iPhone but it doesn't want to start on the Macs. It asks fot an echange server update. Why is it doing differntly on both platforms: OS X and iOS?
Is there a turn around method, cause my IT departement is not willing to consider this upgrade...
    Thnak you for your advices.

    Hi Electrojim,
Perhaps both are great tools to use. Just like virus scanners, its nice to have more than one just in case one did not detect another.

  • I  think that I no have luck. My mac has many problems: the source burnt, the keyboard went out of order , the screen is full of spots and the last one was the battery which is no charging anymore. I am already spent a lot of money to get the mac in order

I am really disapointed with my MacBook Air. I bought it around two years ago and every three months I need to do something to fix it. First was my source, it did not work and need to buy a new one after searched in 5 shops in Brasília/ Brazil. After this was the screen, full of waves and dark spots. Next was the keyboard which went out of order and I need to change by a new one (20 days waiting for the service in Goiânia/Brazil). Now was the battery, which is not charging! And the support told me to change and more 20 days waiting for the repair. When I bought my first Mac I really think that I never have so many problems. Anyone has the same issues?
    Best

Your dsplay is getting extended onto the external monitor. Chcnage the setting to duplicate it or only display on the external monitor and you should be fine,
Let me know if this worked for you.

  • I am struggling to connect my macbook pro to a wireless network. Works fine with USB and my Toshiba can print wirelessly but not the MAC. Any ideas?

    Hi
I cant print wirelessly on my Mac pro but can via usb. the Toshiba does work wirelessly..any ideas?

If you can use the wireless network properly (surf the web, check email, etc.) then there is probably nothing wrong with your network settings.
When you print from your Mac Pro, does the printer show up in the Printer list at all (in the Print dialog box)?
If not, have you already tried to Add Printer from the bottom of the Printer list?
If you click Add Printer and it can't see the printer, the next thing to do is probably go to the Toshiba printer web site and see if there is a Mac printer driver to download and install so that it shows up in the Printer list.

  • Why can't I view video from my SD card on my Mac? It appears on my RFH400 but not the Mac?!

I recorded four short videos onto an SD card using a Canon HFR400 video camera. When I load the SD card into the computer I’m only able to view one video. The others show no images, only a black screen but each will play for the length of each video.
Weird part is that I can play back all four videos in playback mode on the camera. It’s just loading them onto the computer which causes 3 of 4 to go blank. Any idea why it’s not allowing me to view??
I thought it had to do with the format or possibly using a Mac, but it doesn’t make sense that one video can be seen and the others can’t. They were all shot within 15 minutes of each other. May have to try Canon tech support but it doesn’t seem to be a camera issue.

    Hi canondude!
    Thanks for posting.
Ho are you bringing the video clips over to your computer?  Are you connecting the camera or are you using a card reader?  What program are you using to import the video clips?

  • Firewire cable not fitting into the Mac Pro Port

Hi I've got a Sony video camera that's about 7 years, it uses Mini DV. I recently filmed my sister's College graduation that I wanted to view and transfer to my computer. I just purchased a fire wire cable to hook up the camcorder to my mac Pro. The cable fit's perfectly into the Video camera but not the Mac Pro. Did I purchase the wrong cable? It's a Belkin 6-pin to 4-pin Cable. This is the cable that I bought http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F3N401-06-ICE-4-Pin-6-Pin-FireWire/dp/B00005NIMR/re f=sr11?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1243482027&sr=8-1. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes - the cable you purchased is FW400, the new Mac Pro's use FW800.
It does seem like a strange omission not to have at least one FW400 port...
I have seen some adapter that hook onto the FW400 end, so that you can insert into a FW800. They do tend to be expensive in the area where I live.

  • Is it advisable to keep the mac connected to the plug as often as possible while using it? (to keep the battery at 100%)

Reading the advises on the battery (long) life it looks like the main parameter of interest for evaluating the battery performance are the cycle counts.
This also means there it is better to always keep the battery charged while using the mac in order to never let it discharge consuming cycles.
Is it really advisable? Aren't there some possible drawbacks in doing so?
(Risks due to higher temperature, risk of battery malfunctions..)
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to ASC!
In the ~15 years I've been lurking here, there seems to be one recurring theme to posts about battery failure: the statement "I don't understand why my battery died! I never use the computer on battery power!"
As OGELTHORPE points out, use the battery every so often. I try to get 1-2 cycles on mine per month. How you do it depends on your usage pattern. I use mine at a museum where I volunteer one a week and the battery has more than enough capacity to power my MBP through my shift.
Think of your battery in term of human muscles: if we do not exercise a muscle, it will atrophy and become disabled. So it is with your MBP battery.

  • DPS on the Mac App Store?

    Hello:
I've been doing some testing on DPS with the Windows app and it's incredible and fabulous since I can access it from my Windows 8.1 laptop or computer. I know this is possible because of the Operating Sysmte instead of the technology but I'd like to know if you are going to release a version for using it on the Mac in order to have a broader audience. Not the Web Viewer that requires accessing the account from a browser and downloading the folio each time but a full app that can be used the same as the viewer on the iPad.
    Saludos

We have no plans to release a dedicated desktop viewer for Mac OS.

  • Can EXE files be used on the MAc?

I'm not sure if this is in the correct category, but I am trying to download a program (Rhapsody) that I used on the PC. Whenever I click to download it (there are no OS options but it system requirements it says Mac OS 10.4 or higher) it automatically goes into my downloads as an .exe file. I was under the impression that .exe files are for Windows and not the Mac.
If I did try to open a Windows file, would it crash the Mac?
Also, someone recently told me that an intel mac is not a real mac and intel is made by Microsoft... I have never heard of this. He said that intel macs don't work the same as "real macs" and I could have problems because it's intel. Is that correct? Is my Mac Mini version 10.5.8 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo a Mac 10.5 or a Mac intel, I am confused about this.
    Thank you!

.EXE files will work with Intel Macs running virtualization. Boot Camp is prebundled with Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6, allowing you to boot into Windows, if you have a copy of Windows to install on your Mac that is compatible with that version of Boot Camp. Additional virtualization titles are below*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/macosxnative.html#WINTEL
That said, your statement here is a bit of a oxymoron:
Whenever I click to download it (there are no OS options but it system requirements it says Mac OS 10.4 or higher) it automatically goes into my downloads as an .exe file.
The place giving you that download has either mislabeled the download, or is missing the download. At minimum, it should have bundled a .dmg, .gz, .sit, or .hqx document to run on 10.4. Virtualization under 10.4 is available, but it is not going to run as Boot Camp, because 10.5 is where Boot Camp is prebundled. You'd have to use Parallels, Virtualbox, or VMWare to install the .exe under 10.4 on an Intel Mac. Since you have 10.5.8, you already have Boot Camp capaibility. One problem people might run into with Intel Macs, is older PowerPC applications that access PowerPC only drivers or plugins, or need Mac OS 9. Ask the place that makes the software, if it relies on such things. If it does, inform them that they are woefully out of date, as Macs started coming with Intel chips January 2006. Find an alternative software title in that event.

  • I have my photoshop CS6 on my PC but I just got a Mac and I want to put my photoshop on the Mac would I be better off just getting the CC on my Mac?  Thank you

So I am hoping that I can just do CC on my Mac and does the Photoshop & lightroom does that just automatically com the Bridge or is that a separate cost?
    Thank you

If you have a CS6 licensed version then you would need to request a platform swap to be able to use CS6 on the Mac.  Order product | Platform, language swap
If you subscribe to the Cloud then you could have it installed on either or both machines since the Cloud allows for mixed platform use.

  • Can find the my friend app be used on the mac?

I don't have an ipod, iphone or ipad, however, I  would love to use my MBP to "find y friends" and family since they have these devices...is this possible?

I don't have an ipod, iphone or ipad, however,
Find My Friends is optimized for an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, not the Mac OS X.
