Not trying to flame NI, looking for some real feedback
I have been using LV since version 2. Serious use started in version 4.
When version 7 came out, I needed another license and bought a copy but continued to use version 6. I tried installing 7 but it was so different from the older versions I removed it. Recently I had to upgrade to version 8.2.1. I have been using it for a few months now. While it does have a few features that I actually like, the problems that I see with it far out weighed the improvements.
I am talking about things like speed, version 8 is a dog compared to 6. Just simple things like connecting a wire is very slow now. Other things like doing a simple drag operation where I draw a box around the objects I want to drag and the box that LV shows is some where in deep space. It selects the right objects, but seening the box not where you draw it just makes it not very smooth to use. Then there is the moving of some of the drop down menus for no good reason that I can see. Some MBA or manager should have been fired over that one. Even after 2 months I still hit the wrong menus. Just from having used LV for so many years I have developed a habit. You poor people that need to run both versions!! Then there are the crashes. I don't even want to think of how much time I spend trying to find functions now....
Some of this I am sure can not be helped I'm sure but the bugs with the select box, graphic entry speed and crashes are something I am not used to with LV. Over time I will get used to the new menus as long as they don't move them again. This version IMO was the worst I have seen from them. We needed some of the low level features it has, so we are stuck.
My question is if I upgrade to version 8.5, has National just added more fluff that I will never use, or have they actually improved the graphical entry speed and made it a more bug free environment?

We have a six licenses for LV and use it on a few different types of PCs. All run much slower now that we did the upgrade. The PC I am currently using has an Intel P4 3GHz w/ 2GB of RAM. It has an NVIDIA dual view something card with two LCD monitors. When I upgraded to version 6, I was running on a PIII 750MHz with 512M and it worked fine. For that matter, I own a copy and use it at home on an old dual 200 MHz Pentium and it runs fine (yep that right). It's not just the startup that I think it slow (which it is) it's just the normal drawing that is a real drag for me. Run time seems fine still for the most part. However, I tried to put the new version 8.2.1 on my LeCroy 8500A DSO to do some post processing. Just loading LabView with no pannel was enough to bring the DSO to it's knees. I gave up on this idea real fast.
I am not sure what a big VI would be. Typical program for me may have 20 sub VI's, some calls to external DLL's to talk to some hardware and a lot of math. Looks like the current program I am working on is about 2 Meg in size total (all the VIs added up). Not what I would call big.
I like LabView. It has saved me countless hours over the years and I have brought up many prototypes and done a lot of tests with it. I just don't like this version. I'm not really into all the cute little things they add. I use it to get work done. If they have forgotten that feature (that it needs to actually work) then they missed the point.
I may just order one license just to see if there is any improvements. It sounds like you have uncovered problems that I have not yet ran into so it may be good just to have it in my bag of tricks.

From what I can tell, if things work in Windows Vista they will work in [email protected]All I can say to you (someone correct me if I'm wrong) is that Xtremegamer's doesn't decode DD/DTS via hardware with official drivers (altough they're capable of - all X-Fi are capable of decoding). XtremeMusic does the job with official drivers. I don't know the rest of the models. Someone adds [email protected]

See I have this exercise I have to do here. Basically I have to create a program that will download the contects of SBOOK to my pc. I have to use GUI_DOWNLOAD in this exercise. Also, the user will have to input the path and file name of the file to be downloaded to. Looking for some best practice regarding Content Administrator access
Hi. I am looking for some best practice or rule of thumb from SAP or from different companies how they address Portal Content Administrator access in Production environment. Basically, our company is implementing portal to work with SAP BW. We are on SP 9. Basically, I am trying to determine if we should have 1-2 Portal Content Administrator in Production with 24/7 access or we should limit them from NOT having this. Can you share with me some ideas of what is right? and what is not?

Looking for some advice regarding an image related program
Hi fellas, Im looking for some guidance here. I want to write a program that will read an image (image will be an xray image of a square), convert the image to black and white, and measure the length and width of the square. Im looking for the best progamming langauge to make this happen. Anyone have any recommendations? I know c++ has a good imaging library that would be helpful so im looking into that at the moment. And Im pretty sure I can do this with matlab, but Im writing this program for a doctor so I need it to be portable. Thanks in advance for all the help

I did not say it will work with any carrier at one time. I was trying to find out the reason for this and why people were so surprised that the iPhone 5 had this function and the reason for it. As stated in my post, is it there so that after your contract is up and you want to go to another carrier you do not have to purchase a new iPhone, you cna purchase a SIM card that works with your new carrier.
The Otterbox Defender has a tendency to let too much dirt, dust, etc. in the cracks on the case. At least this has been my expereince. I was thinking something more along some of the really durable cases at BallisticCaseCo.com

I have had a trial version of Acrobat X1 Pro - I have decided not to buy at this stage - for some time it has been conflicting with opening PDF docs after "saving as" from word 2007 - I uninstalled Pro X1 and now when I "save as" PDF from word 2007 to PDF it will save the document as a PDF but will not open the document to display after publishing - I have to got to where the file has been saved to view the new PDF document - this is really annoying - do I have to delete adobe reader and reinstall it - adobe needs to look at this conflict with acrobat pro as I have even gone it to properties and tried to have adobe reader as the default PDF program - the main issue is that I cannot view the PDF after publishing it from word 2007

i have the new version of iMovie, and when i try to start the program, i can't because it says that it is looking for some movie files from the Iphoto, so all the program is locked up... how can i do to restart the program??

Did You may be direct iPhoto to a different Photo Library
As iMovie tries to find the appropriate photo library - it can get lost if iPhoto direct it into a Library on a not connected external hard disk or to a strange location - And iMovie HANGS.
Do - When no other program is running that might interfere
• Start iPhoto - BUT NOW KEEP alt-key (option key) DOWN during the full Start-Up process
• Now iPhoto let's You select Photo Library
• Select the one in Your Account / Home folder / Pictures ! !
• Then iPhoto should start up OK
• Now Quit iPhoto
• START iMovie
Does it still hangs - then I would suspect - iMovie Pref. file
If it Run's OK - Then HURRAY !

ah sorry, my intention was never to start a silly flame war. I am going to spend some time trying out tiling WM's other than Xmonad, It's kind of annoying since I'm forced to use win7 at work, and the contrast between work->home is quite large.
If you like tiling, try the "plug.n" autohotkey script/app on your work windows box. Does a very good job - or at least as good as is possible.
There is a limitation if you need to use stuff like VMs. But this is getting a bit OT, so i'll leave it at that . -

Looking for some assurances that I haven't made a mistake switching to Mac.
Bought an intel-powered IMac 9 days ago and love everything about it's look, functionality, etc.. Only problem: I've had a bout of "Application has closed unexpectedly" occcurrances while using Safari (while at AOL.com deleting emails from aol account) and while editing pics in iPhoto. As this happened time and again, I got a sad, sinking feeling that I'm headed for the same frustrations that I've had w/ every Windows machine I've ever owned. Ugh!..I switched to Apple for the specific purpose of avoiding crashes!!! Apple support walked me through steps to fix (removed/updated Quicktime, and check a few other things..). They were very helpful, but... I absolutely detest having to do this. Other than Office:Mac, i've added nothing to this machine! I'm really stressed about this. I paid far more for this than I would have for a Windows machine simply because I had heard that Apple machines don't do this sort of thing!!
Please tell me that this is normal and expected with a new machine and not a harbinger of more complicated problems to come!! I'm hoping that once resolved, I won't much more of this.. On the other hand, if many of you feel that this issue is a bad omen, I'll take the machine back while I still can. ..What a pity though, it's truly been a joy to use so far.

Deleting AOL Mail, crashes Safari (Consolidation)
It seems the most recent Safari, and or 10.4.4, update has created this problem.
Apple & AOL are both aware of this, but, as far as I know, no correction has been implemented.
Here are some of the work arounds, that I have been able to discern from the various posts regarding this issue.
Use the FIREFOX BROWSER.
Use your AOL Mail program.
Use this utility AOL SERVICES ASSISTANT, to set up Apple Mail, to access AOL Mail.
Access the AOL Mail thru Classic AOL Webmail.

I'm looking for some help connecting linksys IP Cameras to my home network to monitor my property when I'm travelling. I used to do this with linksys WAPS, but since I've discarded all my old linksys networking and standardized on airport, I can't get these things working. I know that I have to identify my camera through the DHCP table and set up port forwarding and there is the problem.
My network consists of 4 base stations set up in a roaming network - same network name and passwords. I need to do it this way so I don't have to switch network when I move from one side of the house to the other, go to the cabana, or my shop in the barn. The network works pretty well since I went to a roaming set up. Good performance, yata, yata, yata.
However, the roaming network requires the AEBS's to be set up in bridge mode, rather than sharing an ip address. When the AEBS is set to bridge mode, you don't see a DCHP table or have the ability to identify your IP Cam through the AEBS - and hence, no port forwarding.
I am able to identify and set up my Linksys IP Cam by locating the ip address on my FIOS router, even though, it's plugged into an AEBS. I set it up, see the video, remove the ethernet cable from the IP Cam, restart - and I can't get to it from an AEBS. In researching this, it appears, I should be setting up the AEBS to "share an IP Address", going to the DHCP table and identifying the camera's IP address and setting up port forwarding. However, you don't see any of the DHCP or port forwarding options in Airport Network Utility when configuring in bridge mode.
I'm hoping I'm missing something here and that the solution isn't to set it up at the FIOS router level, but I'm beginning to think that's my only hope. What concerns me there is that I should be able to see the IP cam on the network without port forwarding since I'm not coming from outside, and I can't even do this unless it's connected hard wire.
I'd appreciate any insight into this that anyone might have. I've hit the wall with what I know.
Thanks.In a roaming network, your "main" router is the device that would require port mapping/forwarding to be configured in order to access the IP camera from the Internet. This router is also the one that would be provide the private IP address for the camera which you will want to be a static one.
So as you described your network, the IP cameras should be getting an IP address or you assigned it a static one and this is the address that you would enter in the Private IP address (or equivalent depending on the router used) field when setting up port mapping.
If you are not able to access this camera from the local network, then this should be troubleshot first. -
Looking for some advice dealing with Kernel Panics
Hi there! I'm looking for some help regarding constant kernel panics I've been getting on my machine. It has been happening pretty regularly for the last month or so, occuring sometimes three times in one day and other times none. I've been looking to see what might cause the issue and have thus far come up emptyhanded. I can't think of anything I've modified recently that would be causing the issue. I performed a hardware test using AHT and no errors were found. I've included both the most recent report from the panic as well as the EtreCheck report. Any and all advice is appreciated!

The problem is likely due to the discreet GPU failing. Download gfxCardStatus 2.3 and use it to disable the GPU. This is a temporary workaround until you get your motherboard replaced.

I'm looking for some inspiration here on how best to set up my TC for my needs & wondering how others do for similar needs....
I have a 2TB TC that I have set up so that all of mine & my girlfriends photo's, music, movies & documents are on the one location so that we can access it wirelessly from both our MacBooks & also from a MacMini which I'm going to buy in a month or 2. Changing the location for where iTunes & iPhoto look wasn't a problem but browsing through iPhoto in particular is really slow due to the number of previews I presume, and also we are now unable to have any of the media with us when traveling about, synching phones on the move is a disaster as well!
Anyway,
is there an easy way of setting up iTunes / iPhoto so that we can have all the data on the TC managed on the MacMini but import small iTunes Playlists & iPhoto Albums to our MacBooks without having to change in preferences where the applications look for data each time we get home?
Any help anybody can offer would be grand!
Thanks in advance.........You topic might be better suited for the iPhoto or iTunes forums, since your question seems to be with the application(s) functionality, not really the Time Capsules. However, if you start iPhoto or iTunes while holding down on the "option/alt" key, you can manually select a library to access. When you want one of your computers to access the library on the Time Capsule, make sure it's mounted as a shared volume on your Desktop and then open iTunes and point it towards the library on the Time Capsule. If you want to use a smaller library on your computer, open iTunes and point it to the library on your Mac. I've never switched back and forth multiple times between multiple libraries, so you might check in the iPhoto or iTunes forums to see if any issues may arise from doing this repeatedly.
