Not working Satellite Pro A60

When I start up my Satellite Pro A60 I get to the Toshiba screen, then it goes to a blank screen and nothing else happens. I have tried removing the battery, disconnecting from the power outlet to no avail.
I have powered up the laptop and pressed F12 but nothing happens, on the odd occasion after the Toshiba screen, there will be a black screen with the words "Checking boot CD-rom" in the top left corner then nothing else happens.
Does anyone have any suggestions? If so could you please email me at [email protected]
Thanks

I've got the same problem with an a60. In the BIOS, the HDD is recognized, and in the repairsector of the windows xp cd, "chkdsk" shows no errors.
I got the problem after doing a clean installation, which couldn't be finished because the notebook doesn't boot from HDD.
I tried to remove the HDD and power connectors and then reintall it but that shows no result as well.
So, windows can write files to it, read from it but can't boot from it? There has to be a solution.

  • Touch pad not working - Satellite Pro A300

I have just turned my laptop on after a day of not using it and the touch pad is not working correctly.
Whenever i try to move the mouse is goes all over the place and starts clicking on things when im not and highlighting and dragging things all the time when i'm just trying to move the mouse somewhere.
Its as if it has a mind of its own.
Does anyone know what is wrong with it please or do i just need to get a new one?

I found this forum while trying to get my niece's Sat Pro A300 working. I HAVE SOLVED THIS PROBLEM. In the end I removed Vista and installed XP SP3. (Note: to do this you need to change the BIOS SATA setting to "Compatibility" for the XP install to see the Hard Drive). The Touchpad still did not work. The Synaptics drivers from the Toshiba Australia site would not install, the installation wizard said "iKernel.exe" was missing. The driver for XP/Visata 32-bit from the Synaptics website said it wasn't a 32-bit app or similar error.
So, I used the Toshiba Utility to do a Windows update of the BIOS which took it from ver 1.03 to 1.08. Note: the 1.09 version won't install on this machine. Note: the update changes the SATA setting mentioned above to the other option i.e. not "Compatibility". You need to change it to "Compatibility" for the machine to reboot into XP properly.
Restarted, and the Touchpad worked, except it comes up as a PS/2 Mouse, but it works.
I then went to the Synaptics site and installed the Windows 2000 driver and now I have a working Touchpad which is identified in Device Manager as a Synaptics Touchpad.
Hope this helps. Maybe in Vista just updating the BIOS to 1.08 would be enough to make it work. I dropped back to XP because Vista was very slow, and not working properly.
Now, all I need to do is find out what the last "Unknown Device" is, although it doesn't matter as everything is working.
Why do they make it so hard?!!?!!

  • DVD Drive not working Satellite Pro A100 - error Code 37

    Hi
    Anyone help on this?
I have an A-100 and the DVD drive has stopped working in XP. I've checked device manager and XP see's the drive but returns this error 'Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)'
I've also noticed that ASAPI.sys is not running in task manager.
I'm guessing this has got something to do with the problem.
I've tried reinstalling device drivers but this has made no difference. Any suggestions?

    Hi
The error code 37 means the driver returned failure from its DriverEntry routine.
You could try to remove the driver from the device manager and after new reboot the OS should recognize the device drive and initialize the driver again.
If this does not help try this procedure:
Run REGEDIT and open up the following folders:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    -> SYSTEM
    -> CurrentControlSet
    -> Control
    ->Class
    {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
After clicking on {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} you should see two settings on the right-hand side:
    "Upperfilters"
    "Lowerfilters"
Click on each of them, press DELETE and click YES.
Then reboot the notebook and check if it was useful.

  • Satellite Pro A60 - HDD not detected by BIOS

    Hi to all !!
I've been given a Satellite Pro A60 (PSA65E) , for free ....'cause it has a bug!!! But I would like to fix it and use it.
Problem is that HDD is not recognized by the BIOS. Strange enough, it is possible to format it during initial phase of an OS installation from scratch ( I've tried with Win XP and Win 2000 ), but installations do not proceed further since it will not boot from HD. If I try to install a seccond time, it does find some data already present in the HD and gives warnongs ... meaning that it is also possible to write on the disk.
BIOS screen says : no drive.
CD drive is OK, shown as secondary.
I did also search through the Fora at no avail.
    Actions done so far :
    * flashed the BIOS , now at 1.90 release
    * Replaced the original HD (Toshiba, 40 GB ) with another one known to be good , smaller ( Toshiba as well , 30 GB)
    * Tried to pull out CD drive and verified BIOS does recognize it has been removed, and recognized it again when put back in. The same manouvre done with the HD does not change anything in the BIOS screen: it always says 'no drive'.
    * Tried with DOS version of Partition Magic : it says 'no drive found'. Same with the backup disks that came with the PC.
    * Tried other stuff found in Fora : remove all power sorce, let the PC for several minutes.... opened up and checked for visible problems in the HDD area and so on.
Any suggestion would be be appreciated !!!
    Thanks

    Hi to all!
I've spent some hrs to try to find out what is going on. I surrender. The result stays the same: Satellite Pro 'sees' just non Toshiba HDD's. Toshiba HDD's work fine on other notebooks. Tried also the available Toshiba HDD's on a third unit. The only explanation I can guess of is that Satellite BIOS queries the installed HD something that other notebooks do not, and most of the HD reply as it expects and others ( Toshiba's ) do not.
The most suspected item remains BIOS, IMHO.
Talked also with the guy who handed over the broken Satellite to me: no help... he just stated that he never had a problem since the beginning and then suddenly one morning he could not IPL anymore. Oh well, he got lost with the back up CD's, due to the 'strange' behavior of the problem. Taking into consideration that it was possible to R/W from the HD but not to IPL, it is understandable.
I think we can close this thread, unless somebody from Toshiba Storage Division can shade some light....or the Bios guru, maybe.... it would be nice to know.
Thanks to all for the attention

  • Satellite Pro A60: External monitor shimmers

I use a Satellite Pro A60 with a second (tft) monitor as a dual display setup. When displaying dark backgrounds or images on the second monitor there is a very noticable horizontal shimmer that moves around on the screen.
I have tested the monitor on another machine and it is fine, so I can only assume there is a problem with the notebook or the ATI graphics card.
If anyone can help me solve this problem I would be very grateful, as it is giving me a headache (literally!).

    Hello andy
I use external TFT at home with my Tecra and it works fine. The screen refresh rate for external TFT monitor must be set to 60 Hz. If the problem still persists there must be some other reason for this.
I am pretty sure that non-Toshiba display driver can also be responsible for this issue but I hope that you use Toshiba designed driver for graphic card. You should also try to connect some other TFT or even CRT monitor and check if the same problem persists. If yes it is caused by graphic card and you should contact service partner. It is possible that graphic card must be exchanged.
In my opinion this can not be solved by BIOS or other kind of update.
    Good luck!

  • Satellite Pro A60: Windows XP cannot start missing or corrupt driver isapnp.sys

I have had a Satellite Pro A60 for about 3 years without problems.
Last week the Toshiba in Touch screen developed bleeding vertical lines and I got error message 'Windows XP cannot start because of missing or corrupt driver isapnp.sys'. I have tried using recovery disk but this loads OK but then fails to make any difference. Hard disk appears to work OK as slave to another computer.
Any suggestions wil be much appreciated!

  • Satellite Pro A60 - BIOS update without OS

I have an Satellite Pro A60, trying to install XP pro but says it needs update BIOS, have downloaded new upgrade, unzipped and only one file there, will not boot as no bootable file.
There currently is no OS on the laptop, I understand i need an ISO file but where is it..!!..

    Hi vespec,
I think PinkPanther has already read the thread and you should take the time to to read his posting too.
As he wrote, the BIOS update is Windows based. That means you have to install Windows firstly before you can start the update. If you unzip the files, they will not boot because they are not bootable. You cant start the update without Windows.
Last but not least as PinkPanther wrote, a DOS based update that you can boot from, is only available for ASPs I think.
But it would be interesting to know which error message you get exactly while installing XP. I cant imagine that BIOS update is necessary to install the OS. BIOS has nothing to do with that
And have you tried to install the OS from Toshiba recovery disk? This should work properly because it contains an image of factory settings.

  • During BIOS update Satellite Pro A60 went down and hasn't started

    Hello everyone,
I have a Satellite Pro A60 and I updated the bios. Halfway the update, my laptop went down and hasn´t started since. All it does is give a couple of beeps (trying to tell me the bios is corrupted, I suppose) and shuts itself off again.
Tried to start with the (~) key pressed down (a tip I got from a friend), but no succes.
I currently live in a country where there is no Toshiba dealer available and I rather not ship the laptop to have it repaired.
Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    This sounds not good.
If during the POST the BIOS detects a problem it will normally display a visual error message on the monitor explaining what the problem is. However, if a problem is detected before the BIOS initializes the video card or a video card is not present or not detected then the BIOS will play several BEEPS through the speaker to let you know there is a problem.
Depending on the type of the BIOS you have the BIOS may play beeps in a specific pattern to indicate what the problem is, or play the same beep a number of times indicating the problem.
In your case its possible that you have used a wrong BIOS or a wrong BIOS procedure. Both can damage the motherboard.
To prevent such damages and any mistakes Toshiba has published the FAQ document.
How to update the BIOS on most units!
This you should read before doing any BIOS updates!
Unfortunately I dont think that you can solve it yourself. I think you should ask the ASP for help.

  • Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 Celeron 2.8GHz 256MB sound volume?

    Hi,
I've recently bought a Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 and am happy with item, but despite turning the volume full music and even the windows event sounds are very quiet? To me it does seem to be significantly quieter that other notepads I've used. Is this the way the item should be working or could it be a possible issue?
Thanks for any help or advise you can give.

    Hi again
Do you have this problem using all players or just using DVD player? Is this situation since you bought notebook or it occur later? Everything is possible but I dont think that something is faulty.
At the end you can contact Service partner and let them check it up.

  • Slow start up on Satellite Pro A60

My Satellite Pro A60 EN takes ages to be able to use from inital start up and also when swopping users.
I reckon about 12 minutes before you can use it from switching on.

    Hello John
Maybe is time for fresh OS installation. I presume on your system there are many stuff responsible for slow startup. SP A60 has old recovery installation procedure and if you have two partitions copy all important files to second partition. Using recovery media you can install OS on partition C and later have access to all data on partition D.

  • Touch pad not working on Satellite Pro A60

    Hi,
Tried the Fn F9 approach. Still no response. Also tried the setting in the control pannel to no avail.
I have looked in the Device Manager and there seems to be a problem with the PS/2 Touch Pad. Apparently the device is not present, not working or does not have all its drivers installed.
I dont seem to have the driver available nor am I able to find it anywhere in the internet.
    Any ideas??

Seems you have to install the touchpad driver.
Download the right one from the Toshiba page and install it!

  • ATI error and no windows - Satellite Pro A60

    Hello,
When I start up my computer I get a bluescreen error c0000415
A quick google reveals that it is one of these: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832324
"So what are you fussing about?" I hear you cry - the problem I have is, in getting to this error from another one (also ATI card based) I stuck my red disk in and wiped everything - including windows... and bnow the error kicks in before windows installs and safe mode (- which worked perfectly before) doesn't work because windows isn't installed!
    Oh the fun.
"I reckon it's a hardware error" - yeah so did I... however, before the reinstall and recover I could work the computer in safe mode and videos played fine with full colours and resolution. Am I missing the point if I think that a working video is an indicator of a working video card?
I must admit I'm stumped well and truly. I'm going to try and dig out an old Windows 98 disk, but I'm not sure how much that will help, as the only copy of XP I have is on the recovery disk... [Return to Step 1]
Any suggestions much appreciated - thanks in advance...
    [it's a Sat pro A60 w/ 256+? RAM, 2.8Ghz celeron, ATI Radeon Mobility 7000 etc...]

    Hi
As Microsoft document suggested this issue may occur if an ATI Radeon 7200 display adapter was installed on your computer and the driver that is supplied with this adapter may not work correctly with Windows XP.
    The SP2 installation should helps.
This MS statement says everything! Its not a hardware problem but there is an compatibility issue with Windows XP (without SP2) and the ATI 7200 radeon driver.
You should try to get an original Windows XP CD with or without the SP2.
The software called nLite allows you to create an own Windows booting CD and to add the MS patches and service packs to this CD.
Then you could try to boot this CD and after the OS installation you should update or change the graphic driver!!

  • Keyboard not responding - Satellite Pro M30

    Hi,
I have recently purchased a Satellite Pro M30. The keyboard has stopped responding completely. When I turn the laptop on and when it prompt me for login credentials I am just not able to enter it, nothing happens when the keys are pressed.
I re-installed the unit using recovery CD but no luck. Interestingly, when I put laptop in stand-by mode, and when it comes back to normal mode, keys work for few seconds. Also if I kill the explorer.exe and launch new one, keys works for some time.
Since keys are working when laptop comes out of standby mode, the keyboard is not completely dead/hardware failure. My OS is XP Pro SP2.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sanjay Kedare

    Hello
The best way to check the functionality of the unit is to preinstall the unit with original recovery CD or DVD. Like I can see you have already done this.
If the problem still persists I assume there is some hardware problem. I dont know if the unit is new one or used one but you should contact service partner in your country and explain them the situation. Valid warranty will cover all costs if some hardware part is defective and must be exchanged.
    Bye

  • FN keys not working Sat Pro S300

My FN keys are not working. I have a Satellite Pro S300-EZ1512. Windows XP SP3.
I do not have the flash card app when I go to Toshiba Utilities. I tried installing everyone of the Flash Card downloads on the support page. Each one said at the end "operation failed' except Version: 1.59.0.2C but after I restart the FN keys still do not work. The BIOS is ver 3.0.

  • Windows 7 x64 USB AUDIO DEVICE - Device Not Working - Mac Pro

I have a mac pro early 2009. I had vista x64 installed, everything was great. I had 2 audio devices under device manager, one was listed as HD (digital) and one device was listed as analog audio.
When I played games and wanted the external speakers (using the digital out connection) I had the HD (digital) audio device enabled.
When I played games and wanted to use a headphone/microphone combo, I had the analog audio device enabled.
Switching between the two was as easy as clicking the audio device icon and clicking on whichever device I wanted.
Now that I installed windows 7 x64, I have a HD (optical out) device in device manager and it works perfectly. Unfortunately, I also have another device listed called "USB Audio Device" and it shows a yellow exclamation mark next to it and it is NOT working properly.
I tried many suggestions on here, which included downloading the cirrus logic audio driver and picking different models, as well as trying the snow leopard install disk driver for cirrus logic, and even tried installing the realtek analog driver. The closest I got to getting anything to work was installing the realtek analog driver. It installed fine up to the point when windows said "this driver is not tested, do you wish to install it anyway?" and I click yes, but then it pauses for a few seconds and the same message comes up again and repeats in a endless loop until you say "no, do not install driver" and then it does a uninstall of the driver.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so were you able to fix it?
    Thanks

You can ignore USB audio, you want RealTek HD Audio. There are or can be some of those yellow alerts that are safe to ignore. Buried somewhere in Apple Support BootCamp technotes.
You can use installer from Realtek or zip file in which case just uncompress and update the driver from inside Device Manager. Nice thing, you can rollback a driver if you want to, or totally uninstall and then reinstall.
