Note 4 GPS

Only had phone for 3 weeks and yesterday is first time I tried to use Google maps to navigate.  I had strong signal but phone kept telling me GPS signal lost.   Navigation may work for a few minutes then quit, or may not find Me at all.
I have done restarts, pulled sim card, even done a factory reset. Nothing helps. Ran phone in safemode. nothing fixed the problem. Cannot take phone back to store because I am a few days past the 14 day return. If Verizon sends me another phone it will be a refurbished one.my phone is only 3 weeks old.
Here is another .strange thing. My wife has an LG G2 and it is a year and a half old. The only thing these 2 phones have in Common is lollipop.
I am wondering if Verizon is aware of this problem and if there are any updates coming soon.
Please help.

  • Why do my photos from the Further Festival in Portland Oregon show that they were taken at Red Rocks CO when I've never been there? I don't believe it is coincidental that they wre there the previous week. How is the location being tagged if not GPS?

We saw Further at Mcmenamins Edgefield on Friday and Saturday night in Portland Oregon. However, when I look at the 'Locations' tab in the Photo App, every photo shows that it was taken at Red Rocks Colorado. Further was there the week before Edgefield but me and my phone were not! I can only think of 2 ways that could happen - either Further/Mcmenamins was overriding the GPS signal or Apple was using some facial recognition to recognize the band and override the location.

  • Does this have GPS or not?

I've been reading some other posts, all about the GPS and A-GPS or Assisted GPS, which basically assists the GPS receiver in aquiring your position quicker. So if that's the case, then how could a position be off by miles? That makes me think that it's not GPS at all, but rather going off cell towers and wifi signals. And what if I'm in an area where I have no cell covereage period? Can I find my position? And a side question, I'm asking all this because I want to be able to find my lat/lon at any patricular place. So I'm curious... if it is a true GPS, then why is there no way (that I have found) to obtain your lat/lon from a native iPhone app? I thought maybe the compass would, but I don't see it, unless it has something to do with the location arrow on the bottom left that does not allow me to select it. And if there is not a way to obtain this via a native iPhone app, are there free ones out there which actuall work? The one I tried was GeoMarker, but that gave me lat/lon at least 3 miles away.
A lot of questions I know, but any help is appreciated.

The iPhone 3GS has a true GPS. Normally, it uses local WiFi and cellular signals to help locate itself faster. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1975
A company called Skyhook Wireless maps WiFi and cell tower locations it scans. Apple uses this to help your GPS locate itself quicker. Here's how it works: http://www.skyhookwireless.com/inaction/apple.php
If there is an error in the Skyhook data, your phone's location may be off. You can turn off WiFi to eliminate the error. It will take longer for the phone's GPS to locate itself without WiFi, but it should be more accurate.
The built-in compass app (iPhone 3GS or later) shows which direction you’re facing, along with the geographical coordinates of your current location. You can choose magnetic north, or have Compass adjust the declination to show true north. Look for your coordinates at the bottom of the screen below the compass display. If you don't see the coordinates, check Settings > General > Location Services and be sure it's turned on.

  • Looking for advice on adding GPS data to pictures in iPhoto

I'm thinking about beginning the process of adding GPS location data to my pictures in iPhoto. I've got about 9,000 pictures overall but was going to start with the ones from this year (about 1,500) as a trial. My digital camera is not GPS-enabled nor do I own a portable GPS receiver. Therefore, my option is basically to look at 3rd party apps that integrate with iPhoto to allow me to 'manually' add the data.
From what I understand, iPhoto caches all EXIF data upon import so any additional information or metadata added after the pictures are in my iPhoto library would be lost or ignored (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). If this is true, I'm looking at exporting the pictures out of iPhoto, bringing them into another application (like HoudahGeo) to add the GPS EXIF data, them re-importing them back into iPhoto. Seems like a lot of work, but down the road I like the idea of having all my photos tagged with their location info and being able to view them through Google Earth or other similar apps.
Has anyone had experience doing this? Have you found a utility or other workflow that is easier than what I mentioned? Thanks in advance for any ideas or support anyone can provide.

    Bill:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. PhotoGPSEditor works well and you can batch add gps data based on Google Map determination. You can drag same location photos from iPhoto's thumbnail window into PhotoGPSEditor's window, add the gps data by selecting the location on the Google map and when you save it asks you for a location. Then you can save to a folder on the desktop and reimport. The gps data shows up under the Exposure section of the Info window in iPhoto.
I've only done it on a test basis but it worked quit well.

  • I was listening to my GPS

I was listening to my GPS & audio suddenly stopped working. It was not muted. I can hear ringer, alarm, & voicemail but not GPS, apps, or video. Resetting, rebooting, cleaning didn't work.

    Hi diesel,
Maybe I should clarify. The GPS (map app) on my iPhone 4S does have audio. So it dictates all the turns until I reach my destination. I was using it and listening to the instructions when the audio stopped (while I was driving). In addition, the video recording or any other apps with sound don't have a sound since that happened, I can't hear anything except for the ring, alarms, and voice mail.
I truly would appreciate any help because I tried cleaning, rebooting, resetting but still am having issues.

  • My iPhone 4 has no GPS signal.

I have location services turned on.  My iPhone 4 cannot get a GPS signal from the Google Maps or MotionX Drive app.  It's only able to find a location using the cell network, not GPS positioning.  Is there anyway to troubleshoot this issue?

I can confirm the the native map app cannot "ping" and is only able to find my location using the cell network.  Other than taking this to the apple store, if there are any suggestions, please let me know.

  • GPS on old iPhone

will you get the GPS App on your old iPhone or is it only on the 3G Phone

the old iPhone will not support GPS as it lacks the hardware. the new iphone has a GPS chip in it. the old iphone does not.
honestly, in my opinion, the GPS is a disappointment. It's not GPS like I expected (and i'm sure many others agree). Nothing like what you would find on a Garmin / Tom Tom / Magellan / etc. from what I saw in the keynote, it only tracks your location. doesn't give you audible turn by turn instructions. So if I'm driving and i want to use it for GPS navigation, i have to take my eyes off the road and find the streets on the little display instead of listening to a voice.

  • How do i use photo geotagging with 3G Iphone?

Do i need a program from the App store? Or is it built in?

It only asks once if the camera can use location services, after that it geo tags every photograph as long as it has the GPS position. Note GPS not cell tower fix, i.e. the little flashing blue dot is on in maps, i.e you are outside or very near a clear view of the sky.
If you then load the pics into iPhoto or some other application and look at the photo data you will see the GPS coordinates buried in there.
I find it works quite well for outside shots. You can then send the pics to something like Palomino for use on Google Earth.

  • Sharing Apps and Songs with family members

I've just set my 2 kids up with their own apple ID's so that they can buy music that they like, instead of only having access to my wife an my music and apps. My wife thinks this was a bad idea, since now if we like songs that they download, we will have to buy them again, instead of before how we had everything load into one apple ID.
Before, our home iMac always had all our songs and apps, and if anyone wanted them, they had to sync their device to that one computer, or be tied into that apple ID account on the app/store. We were able to run everything thru our AppleTV that way also. Now they are independent of this account, can we still somehow tie our family accounts together, and share  stuff amungst ourselves (similar to how we are still able to be logged into the same iCloud account, and share Calendars and Contacts)?
Sharing and being connected as a family on iCloud, has been a disappointment, and not as user friendly as it used to be when there was a iDisc, and MobileMe. I'm starting to feel like Apple is taking a downslide on thinking this thru more thoroughly...
    Thoughts?

If you are talking about *all* of the organizing that you have done (captions, collections/albums, tags, notes, GPS locations, version sets, stacks, creations, stars), then yes, the other person would have to have PSE7.
If you are talking about tags and captions, then this information can be written to files* and then read by many other programs. In the organizer, select File->Write Tags and Properties Info ... Then, send a copy of these photos to other people, and most software will read those tags and captions.
Album/Collection membership, version sets, stacks, creations can not be sent this way. Creations can be saved as .pdf file and sent.
    * — this command fails for some raw files, and also on rare occasions fails for .jpg files. For PSE6 and PSE7, John R. Ellis has created a tool that offers a workaround.

  • A list of faults - is it me or the phone?

I have a 8120 Pearl - I’m brand new to Blackberry so I’m unsure of whether I have a faulty phone or I’m just doing something wrong. My service provider also claims not to really understand them yet either and so are unable to help me with my list of faults:
    • Phone is not GPS enabled so I can’t access Blackberry Maps. Is this a feature I should have access to?
    • On connecting to computer (mac), I say yes when it asks if I wish for Mass Storage Device to be activated, but I am unable to copy photo’s off of the phone, nor get any music files on to the phone.
    • Quite a few websites don’t load – I get an internal error message appear
    • It's latest trick is to delete all my text messages (inbox and outbox) and my call log list, which is really annoying!
Is it me or the phone?? If anyone can at least tell me that much I’d be hugely grateful! Thank you :-)

For the first question the Pearl 8120 does not have built-in GPS. You will need to purchase a Bluetooth GPS receiver and pair it with the device in order to get GPS functionality.
And for the deleting of the texts and call logs, that usually happens when the memory is low.  When the internal memory gets lower (lower than 12MB in some cases, although there is not a set number) the device will start deleting messages and/or call logs to conserve memory. You can check your available memory by going to Options > Status and checking the File Free parameter.
The quickest way to free up some memory is to perform a hard reset. Remove the battery from the device (while it is still powered on) for about 10 seconds, then reinsert. Also, look at the links below for ways to maximize the memory:

  • How do you get your iPhone to stop keeping records your movements?

According to a recent article in Gizmodo (http://tinyurl.com/3dcy2jw) records of iPhone and iPad users' movements have been stored on their phone and computer since June 2010, and could be easily accessed if your device were stolen.
    From the article:
"The privacy startle, apparently enabled by this summer's iOS 4 release, was discovered by two security researchers, one of whom claims he was an Apple employee for five years. They're equally puzzled and disturbed by the location collection: "By passively logging your location without your permission, Apple have made it possible for anyone from a jealous spouse to a private investigator to get a detailed picture of your movements," they explain. All it would take to crack the information out of your iOS device is an easy jailbreak. On your computer, the information can be opened as easily as JPEG using the mapping software that the security experts have made for download."
The Guardian has also written a story about this: http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/apr/20/iphone-tracking-prompts-privacy -fears
How can this "feature" be disabled? It is an invasion of privacy and poses serious security concerns.

Actually you agreed to let Apple track your location history. From the iTunes Terms and conditions, I offer this extract:
Apple and our partners and licensees may collect, use, and share precise location data, including the real-time geographic location of your Apple computer or device. This location data is collected anonymously in a form that does not personally identify you and is used by Apple and our partners and licensees to provide and improve location-based products and services. For example, we may share geographic location with application providers when you opt in to their location services.
So not only does your iPhone and the unencrypted (by default) backup have this information, so does Apple and partners. It's not GPS accurate and not a result of using location services. It comes from cell tower and WiFi triangulation. You would have to go into Airplane mode to protect your location privacy.

  • Custom Metadata Observer

Sorry for this question but I'm new on lua and the LR SDK
    I have the following problem:
I have a custom metadata set with two fields, eg:
    1: Name, Type string
2: URL, Type url, readOnly: true
In the metadata tagset "URL" is hidden because it is empty and only "Name" is shown.
After an user has entered text in the field "Name" and pressed enter, an url should be generated and shown in the "URL"-field. The entered value from "Name" is a fix part of the "URL".
Is this possible without using a dialogbox?
    Thank you for your help.

If you want the URL value to be permanently visible even when empty, you will need to modify its entry in the metadata tagset as follows:
-- Note: GPS would otherwise be hidden when no value exists
            {'com.adobe.GPS', alwaysVisible = true, label = 'alwaysVisible'},
The default for alwaysVisible is false which is why the URL field will normally be hidden.

I suspect you are looking for a way to attach an observer or have an action fire when you change the value of a field in a metadata tagset.  Currently Adobe has not exposed that functionality in their SDK so you will need to work around this using approaches such as John mentions above.

  • Importing videos: rename uses correct date but sorted to incorrect date folder

    Hello
I know there is an issue with importing photos directly from a device, that's not what's happening here.
I  import photos from my camera's SD card and I rename them as they import.  Photos and video are both renamed correctly, but only the photos are sorted correctly.  The videos seem to sort based on the additional time zone adjustment, so mostly they end up in the folder for the next day (corresponding to an additional +12 hr, as though lightroom was adding the time zone correction to the local time rather than to the GMT time).  In gallery view I need to sort by name in order to sort by capture time because the renaming is the only feature that reads the correct capture time.  Sorting by capture time uses the capture time displayed in the metadata (in the right panel in the library module), which seems unrelated to the capture time.  I think it might have somethign to do with the import time, but it doesn't match any of the properties in windows explorer.
    For example:
    I took a video at 2015-02-07 1509, and that time/date appears in it's name
It was taken in New Zealand in a +12 hr time zone (so GMT time 2015-02-07 0309, and if we apply the time zone correction to the local time it would be 2015-02-08 0309)
When is was auto-sorted during the import it ended up in the 2015-02-08 folder
The lightroom metadata capture time is listed as 2015-02-08 2158
The windows explorer date modified is 2015-02-08 1509 (the correct capture time)
The windows explorer date created and date accessed are 2015-02-08 11:27
Note that the camera has GPS and photos are GPS tagged, so they are linked to the time zone.  As far as I can tell the videos are not GPS tagged (no GPS coordinates in properties in windows explorer).
I'd like for the metadata to show the correct capture time and for the videos to be sorted by that correct capture time.  Lightroo obviosuly has the ability to read the capture time correctly, because it does so for the naming.  I have no idea what's going on here and would be heaps grateful for help from the wonderful adobe forums community (you guys haven't let me down yet, you beat any customer support line I've ever tried).
PS: This is the first of a few issues I'm having with lightroom and capture time and  videos, so if you like a challenge stay tuned as I post them all up.  I'm still going through them but briefly:
    - similar video-only issues with videos from another camera: I have to double check to see if the details are the same
    - I'm having time zone issues with screenshots and saved snapchat photos from my iphone even when they are imported from a separate folder
    - accessing the capture time of iphone screenshots/snapchat photos: they get renamed based on a capture time (either the correct or time zone offset, but always something meaningful and not a blank or random time) but lightroom won't display the capture time metadata when looking at only those images, making the time zone adjustment very difficult

LR's support for video metadata is incomplete and buggy.  Add your vote and opinion to this thread: Lightroom: Metadata applied to videos in Lightroom isn't available in other applications.

  • Loaded pictures into PE7 without titles... oops!  Can I just start over?

    Hi,
Hoping someone can give me step-by-step instructions to correct my problem.  I was so excited to get PE7 that I didn't read anything about it.  I just went and imported the pictures from my external drive (used to use Canon Zoombrowser).  Now I have some issues...
    1) I want the "master" photo/video files on my laptop not my external drive.  I didn't realize I wasn't copying the files.  I now understand that PE7 only creates a link and I don't want the link to be with my external drive.  (I'll use the external drive later just to backup the files.)
    2) I neglected to import the titles for the 11,000+ photos/videos.
    3) Can I move the star ratings too?  I'd hate to redo them.
I'm thinking it would be easiest to just start over but I don't know how to do that.  From reading other threads I think that reinstalling PE7 won't wipe out the links?  Please help!
    TIA!!

    Hi,
Thanks for the response and sorry for the newby questions, but I still need help.  I spent last night trying to sort this out.  First, the photos I already had on my laptop in My Pictures (because I wanted to print them) show in the Organizer as being in folders by their date?  Did I do something to make it do that?  because I don't like everything sorted by date as I have my own organization structure and like to work in the folder view.
Second, I mispoke originally as I DO want to keep the current files on my external drive until I can verify everything is there.  I read on another thread that sometimes things get deleted.  I did a "move" of one file following the above instructions and it did remove it from my external drive.  So what I really want to do is to make a copy on my laptop and that will be the master where I make changes and I intend later to backup the changed files to external drive.  How do I do that?
When I did try to move a folder that had one photo plus three subfolders full of photos it only moved the one photo and not the 3 subfolders nor their contents.  How could I have moved the folders and photos from the external drive while still maintaining the organization structure?  (I'm moving from Canon Zoombrowser.)
Lastly, in the Pictures folder of my laptop I see an "Adobe" folder.  Is that where they want me to save my pictures?  Just wondering what it's purpose is.
Wow, that's a lot of stuff. First of all, let me say that it appears that you are thinking in terms of Windows folders, and I always recommend people stop doing that. Organizer works much more effectively if you use Organizer's organizing tools, such as tags, captions, notes, collections/albums instead of using folders, and stop using folder view. The only time you would use folder view is to specifically move files from one hard drive to another. Thus, for now, I recommend you simply stop worrying about folders by date. I have no idea how they got that way, unless you used some software to move the folders off your camera and onto your computer.
Have you done any organizing yet in Organizer? Specifically, have you added tags, captions, notes, GPS map locations, or created albums or creations, or edited pictures or stacked pictures? I'm thinking now that if you haven't done much in Organizer, you might be better off starting over. If you have done a lot in Organizer, then you would need to move the folders to wherever you want them to be by using PSE, not Windows.
Once you have everything working, and the originals are on your laptop, then to do a backup of all photos, you would again use PSE commands. Use File->Backup Catalog, and point PSE to your EHD.
When you did the move of a folder with three subfolders, how did you do this move?
Regarding the Adobe folder ... as I said ... folders should not be relevant any more when you work inside the Organizer. It simply doesn't matter where you put your photos for PSE to work properly.

  • Smart Album to identify pics without Place Assigned

Anyone know how to set up a smart album to show photos with no place assigned? I've tried setting up "is" "blank" or "is" "photo place"... nothing seems to work. I have another album set up to show Unassigned Faces and it makes it much easier to manage your photo album. Thanks for any ideas!

I see "Place" and you can do: is, is not, starts with, contains, does not contain, and ends with. I've tried is blank... contains blank... and a bunch of other things but I can't seem to get it to work. I'm sure it's something quite easy that I'm missing.
