Notebook cases

I'm a student who recently bought a macbook (grrr at the fact that they had a new release!!)
anyways..
apple sells notebook cases. They offer the
Incase Hardshell Case for 13-inch...
or a
Incase Neoprene Sleeve for 13-inch...
Since I'm a student I carry my macbook in my backpack a lot
Which notebook case would be best for me? the hardshell case or the sleeve case??
I'm trying to prevent my macbook from getting dust from the backpack
and to prevent scratches.

if you already have your backpack then i would go for the sleeve.. i have read in some posts that if you dont take the hard shell and wipe the computer down frequently that you get scratches from particles slipping in and rubbing.
If you want to purchase a backpack then i would suggest the incase nylon... i have had mine for about 2 months and its great... soft protected area for the laptop and lots of room for books, pads of paper and laptop accessories.

  • MacBook 13" Notebook Cases

    I have looked here as well on other sites for cases.
    I am looking at getting just a sleeve, I think. I want a case that will protect my new toy for years to come.
    I wanted to see what others are using and where they got them.
    I almost bought the black incase from the Apple store today, but I hesitated.
    Thoughts?

    I was using a [Brenthaven Metro|http://www.connectreviews.com/images/brenthaven_metro2.jpg] with my old MacBook. That shoulder bag had a very comfortable design and felt very secure. I had no problem confidently carrying my computer with it inside. I believe the safety system Brenthaven uses has won some award. They use a sort of foam/hard-shell combination if I remember right. It worked very well and held my MacBook nicely snug. They have [new models|http://brenthaven.com/catalog-shoulder-cases.html] out now which don't include the "chocolate" color with the sky blue interior as I had. (Shame.) They look the same to me other than that. Some storage in the front for pencils, iPod, power brick, and a pocket book. A pocket in the back for holding papers, a magazine, or a notebook.
    With my new mac, I bought [Tom Bihn's Horizontal Brain Cell|http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/300/TB0300]. It's a very minimalist and compact design. I would qualify it as more of sleeve to be put inside another bag, which is why I bought it. (I don't find that I like the looks of most laptop specific bags, but I also like adequate protection.) It uses a combination of foam and corrugated plastic to protect its contents, which feels just as safe to me as the Brenthaven did. _It is a little pricey at $60_ before shipping, but they're handmade in Seattle and come straight from the factory. There's the option of using it on its own, too with hooks for a shoulder strap (optional from Tom Bihn or use your own), and it also has a stretchy front pocket that I imagine could fit a mouse and power brick, though it might look a little bulgy.
    If you're looking for a sleeve with protection, the [Brain Cell|http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/300/TB0300] is a good choice. They also have a [vertical model|http://www.tombihn.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&StoreCode=001&ProductCode=TB0390] if the bag you will be keeping it in requires it to be oriented that way.
    It is out of the $30 price range, but of course, I wasn't looking to spend that much either...

  • MacBook Pro 2013 (Haswell) cases?

    Was just wonderig if anyone had recommendations for good protective shell cases for the macbook rpo 2013 that will fit and where i could find them.

  • MacBook Waking From Sleep Inside Case

    Hello all,
    Three times now my wife has opened her notebook case to find her new MacBook running with the lid closed, incredibly hot, fans blowing. I have read various reasons on the discussions, from System Preferences to faulty logic boards, with no clear winner.
    Anybody care to weigh in on whether or not the movement of the MacBook in the carrying case coupled with a screen protector wedged between screen and keyboard could open the lid just enough to wake it from sleep without allowing it to return to sleep?
    Just a thought. In the meantime, its back to the genius bar...
    Thanks all,
    D
    MacBook 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    actually something similar happened to me too when i walked out of the apple store. i noticed my bag was getting hot so when i investigated i found my white macbook cooking in the bag with the fan blowing, but the strange thing is that i could swear i turned it off, but i noticed that sometimes i close the lid too soon while its closing and it doesnt turn off completely and the light stays on. but since then it hasnt had this problem when i carried it around. i recently replaced it with the black macbook and so far so good on this. but with all these constant threads regarding random shut downs and logic board problems, im starting to get a bit worried, especially since i have my mac running dual operating systems. but anyway, see if the macbooks indicator light comes on after closing when it supposedly shuts off, i always look for it now.

  • HP customer service stinks. It is not what it used to be...

    I am having to write this again but I think it's well worth letting people know.
    I paid for an expensive HP Pavilian DV 5000Z in 2006 customized with a expansion base total was $1300. Pricey stuff but I said I also wanted the good customer service that HP supposedly had.
    Well it was pretty good because in the first month the optical drive I designed died.
    That notebook would still be working well for me (I added a 1 gig memory stick about three years later) but all my high end electronics were stolen in a burgarly Jan. 13, 2012.
     It was a tough hit. Like a fool, though, I bought a busienss probook 4530s with an intel 5 and two months to the day on March 24 the hard drive died. Then these bums could only send me a new hard drive an expect me to install it. Mind you I can hardly understand the guy from India all these calls for help are outsourced that is number one problem. Then when the item arrived, the screw was  missing for me to remove (gee maybe that's why the hard drive went so fast) I baby my computer equpment, otherwise a 2006 Pavilian wouldn't be going strong in 2012
    anyway I called again and begged please just send me a new notebook. Something is wrong with this one.
    The so-called customer servicd woman "Fernanda" in Costa Rica blew me off. Best she could do is have my notebook send away for a **bleep** five to seven days and I am losign money.
     I use this  notebook for business.
     i had to turn down an order ffom Sweden and now what the hell am i to do?
     The lesson here is that HP has gone downhill. I wish I neve rbought another HP ever I could have gotten an intel-5 or 7 even from Sony, or Toshiba.
    Never again and I am writing this as a warning to everyone. This is not the same cmopany it used to be.
     I despise how they've treated a good customer who has bought THREE THREE THREE printers from them over the years, an expabnsion base for $240 and an extra adapter and a notebook case that was expensvie not like these cheap pvc things.
     They know the price of everything, the value of nothing.
     any company that can't see fit to treat a customer like me better isn't worth anyone's time.
    I want to return this, and get a notebook from sony or toshiba.
     You suck HP. You may have been good way back when but the stress I've been through and am going through now because of you {Content Removed} isn't worth it.

  • Keyboard for MacBook pro replaceable?

    On December 2007, my son bought a MacBook pro. Unfortunately on the way back to home the hair conditioner runs out and through the notebook case over the keyboard.
    Fundamentally: it is possible to exchange the (electronics of the) keyboard? Can I replace the keyboard with a new one? How much costs a new keyboard?

    Yes, the keyboard can be replaced. Of course, you are probably aware that the keyboard may not be the only part affected if the liquid seeped into the case. Your best bet may be to visit an Apple Authorized Service Center for the repairs.
    But, you can check out:
    http://www.ifixit.com
    The keyboard lists for US$120, and there are installation instructions for you:

  • Java Program.. HELP  (switch statement)

    I need help on fixing this program for school.ive looked at information online but i still do not see what i am doing wrong.
    The College Rewards Program is based on a students achievements on the ACT Test. Students that have excelled on the test are going to be rewarded for the hard work that they put into high school and studying for the exam. The following are the rewards that will be given to students. They are cumulative, and they get all rewards below their score.
    1. 35-36 $100 a week spending money
    2. 33-34 Free computer
    3. 31-32 $10,000 free room and board
    4. 25-30 $5000 off the years tuition
    5. 21-24 $500 in free books per year
    6. 17-20 Free notebook
    7. 0-16 Sorry, no rewards, please study and try taking the ACT again.
    Make a prompt so the user is asked for their ACT score( be careful).
    Change the ACT score into a number
    Then have the program use that number to display a message about the Rewards program.
    Sample output:
    What was your score on the ACT: 44
    Entry error, please enter a number from 0 to 36.      (error trap wrong numbers)
    What was your score on the ACT: 27
    You got a 27 on the ACT, your rewards are:      ( have it number the rewards)
    1. $5,000 off the years tuition
    2. $500 dollars a year in books
    3. A free notebook
    Congratulations on your hard work and good score.

    import java.util.Scanner;
    import java.text.*; // is this really needed? Scanner's the only class I see
    public class Act {
      public static void main( String[] args ) {

          else {
            System.out.println( "Please enter a valid number (between 0 and 36)." );
            goodnum = false;
        } while ( !goodnum ); // when this loop finished, the number will be between 0 and 36, a good number
        if ( score >= 35 ) reward = 1;      // save yourself the typing, by now score must be between 0 and 36
        else if ( score >= 33 ) reward = 2; // so just go down with else ifs.
        else if ( score >= 31 ) reward = 3; // this will only reach the lowest point.
        else if ( score >= 25 ) reward = 4;
        else if ( score >= 21 ) reward = 5;
        else if ( score >= 17 ) reward = 6;
        else reward = 7;
        // what was the c for? reward already tells how well they did
        // You handled the switch statement almost perfectly
        // don't break so that reward progressively adds to the output
        if ( reward >= 6 ) { // this if statement is optional, just for good esteem. You could even take it out of the if{}
          System.out.println( "For your score of "+String.valueOf( score )+" you will be rewarded the following:" );
        switch ( reward ) {
          case 1: // $100/week spending money

          case 6: // Free notebook
            System.out.println( "Free notebook." );
            break; // break here to keep away from discouraging the fine score
          case 7: // since 7 and default are the same result, ignore this and it'll pass to default
          default: // but technically, since reward must be from 1 to 7, default would never explicitly be called
            System.out.println( "Sorry, no rewards. Please study and try taking the ACT again." );
            break; // likely this break is unneccessary
    }That works in my head, hope it works on your computer.

  • How to locate your Vaio Model Number

    In order to get the best support you can from fellow users of the forum it's important to always quote the model number when you have a question.
    The method for locating your model number depends on when the product was released. On very old models (released before Summer 2000) the computer information and compliance label (located on the bottom of the notebook case or the back of the desktop case) indicates the actual model / product name. For all more recent Vaios (models released Fall 2000 and later) the model name can be found on a small label located in one of the following places:
    Notebook Computers:
    * On the bezel (frame) of the LCD display.
    * On the LCD hinge.
    * At the top left or top right of the keyboard.
    Desktop Computers:
    * On the front of the computer
    * On the bezel (frame) of the LCD display for all-in-ones.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    We're just posting this as a reminder as we've been getting a lot of posts with no model number quoted recently. Also, many users have been quoting the chassis part number instead of the model number - if your notebook computer is a more recent model year than 2005 the model number will not begin with PCG - it will begin with VGN or VPC.

  • How bad is the  fur lining?

    I was able to see an incase with the fur lining yesterday. I have read where several people do not like it because the fur sheds on a white Mac. But, is that enough of a problem to NOT buy one?
    My other choice is a Brenthaven MetroLite. It is larger than the incase, but if the furr is a real problem, I would buy the Brenthaven.
    The Apple Store I go to has both in stock.
    Thank,
    Pat

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    Anytime you get things loose inside a notebook case, you can get that stuck in between the keys, blocking the ports, scratching the screen in addition to the possible aesthetic mess. If a case is so poorly built to have things get lose from its own design, I wouldn't buy it.

  • 2nd HDD for Satellite P200-1FC

    Is is possible to install a 2nd HDD in a Satellite P200-1FC (PSPB6E)? There is an empty bay, but no connector. Is it possible to purchase and install a connector so that a 2nd HDD can be fitted?

    Very often discussed theme on this forum!
    If there is no connector the upgrade is not possible. Notebook case is for all P200 the same. Some of them are delivered with 2 HDDs. Because of that you have found empty place for second HDD. The mainboard in your notebook is not prepared to work with 2 HDDs.
    The same situation is on my P200D.

  • M40x-184 temp monitoring and expres card

    hallo
    i am a fresh toshiba user and was wondering is there a way to monitor the temp of the cpu or the videocard for this model
    in some brochures it sais it should have an infrared device but it doesn't is there a way to enable it or ....
    and i see an express card slot but the plastic blocking the entrance can't be removed why is this how can i enable it?

    Hello lio
    Welcome in the Toshiba user family. ;) If you search settings to set the CPU speed please check the Toshiba Power Saver utility. You can find it in Control Panel. If your unit is connected to power supply mark the Full Power profile and on the right side check the settings in Basic setup tab. There you can find some of useful settings.
    I have checked that your unit has no IrDA but it is possible that some of notebooks from M40x series have a one (M40x-xxx) but I have no precise info about that.
    You are right about express card slot. I have talked with a friend of mine who told me that this is just planed to be built and it can be that Toshiba has prepared the notebook case for future handling.
    I wish you a lot of fun with your new toy!

  • CPU and motherboard upgrades for DV7-2278ca

    Hi
    I have a DV-2278ca laptop with Intel Core™2 Quad Q9100 2.26-GHz with 12-MB L2 cache and 1066-MHz FSB and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 discrete graphics subsystem and 1-GB of dedicated memory.
    I want to upgrade them to something that uses second/third generation INTEL (I5/I7)
    Is it possible? if yes what are my options?
    Thanks!

    I am going to be honest here. The chances of upgrading those components is very low and not very likely to work with that notebook case.
    A second generation Core i5/i7 process is two generations away from the current processor which will require a motherboard upgrade. I'm certain you are aware of this since you mention upgrading the CPU and the motherboard. This is an issue since the case for the notebook was specifically matched to the motherboard it came with. It is possible that finding one that supports what you want and fits that case will be challenging. It can also add up in cost and risk. Risk being the components just don't work or a different feature of the notebook doesn't work any more.
    I did do some research to find other posts, in this forum and outside this forum, where others have successfully changed those components. I found plenty on replacing it with the same motherboard, but none that were specifically upgrading it. Perhaps I did not use the right search terms. Notebooks are generally intended to be as they are configured with limited upgrades available for the hard drive and RAM.

    What is the difference between the Portege Z835-P370 vs Portege Z835-P372?
    The specs look the same and even Toshiba couldn't help me out.

    In the past Toshiba has offered optically same notebooks but with different model names. Both models have had also the same manuals.
    As you can see both notebooks are optically absolutely the same. The same notebook case will be used on both of them.
    Main difference is that Portege notebooks are business notebooks and designed for professional usage and offer more security features (fingerprint), maybe different HDDs and so on.
    Satellite notebooks are designed, more or less for standard usage. If you compare the price of these notebooks you will understand what Im talking about.
    In my opinion this question about weight is not so interesting and so important. If there is some difference around 30 gram it cannot be so important. Fact is that both notebooks are ultra light and ultra portable notebooks.
    Design is fantastic, notebook is not too big and you can take it with you everywhere. With simply words brilliant notebook.

  • Satellite A100 - high temperature

    Hello,
    I have an A100 less than one year old and I noticed from the beginning that it has a tendency to be very hot (I almost get burned just putting my hand below the on/off button.
    At first I didn't bother too much but now it's getting worse. I have run an Everest test and it says 89C for the processor temperature?!
    Please advise.
    Thanks and best regards

    Hi
    Well what to say... in fact the temperature is a little bit high but the notebook supports an overheating protection and should shuts down automatically if the temperature increases the critical level.
    You said the temperature is higher on the notebook side where the power button is placed??
    This is nothing unusual because on this notebook side the cooling modules and the CPU are placed.
    There is an air circulation and the warm air flows outside.
    The notebook bottom and the side are always warmer as the other notebook case parts.
    Therefore it's not advisable to use the notebook on the knees but only on the desk!!
    You should always be sure that there is enough free space around the notebook for properly fresh air circulation.
    You know, after one year of working the dust and debris could has a bad influence on the fan rotation and notebook cooling.
    Maybe it's necessary to clean the cooling modules professionally. In such case you should ask a technician for the help!
