Notebook GX740 does not react to the power button

Hello. Notebook GX740. When you upgrade NB Camera / VGA / EC Firmware laptop hangs. 1 hour turned it off the power. Now does not react to the power button. How can I restore NB Camera / VGA / EC Firmware??? The file downloaded from the website EC1727EMS1.404

You will need to perform EC reset after EC flash.
Remove battery and disconnect AC adapter, and then reconnect them.
Try power on the unit.

  • DPG4 does not post -- but the power button lights up

I'm totally lost at this point... My old PowerMac no longer powers on. I managed to somehow get it to boot when I had this problem once before, but this time I'm getting nowhere. When I press the power button, the button itself still lights up -- but that's as far as it gets; as soon as I take my thumb off of the button, it goes dark, and the system doesn't even try to boot. The steps I've taken so far to troubleshoot this are: removed all third party components, (including a 512MB DIMM, a USB2 PCI card, and a 54g wireless PCI card, as well as several USB devices) removed the power cord and backup battery and pressed the PMU reset button. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Fortunately, this is no longer my primary system -- a white 24" Intel-based iMac takes that title now -- but it would be awfully nice to be able to install one of my Leopard licenses (from the family pack) on the old G4 to use it as my Time Machine server.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.
Additional information: I just successfully booted the machine, through a series of (what I would call) almost random configuration adjustments. Here's what I did... I opened the box, yanked the backup battery and pressed the reset button again, and tried to power it on. I then noticed that the optical drive was connected to the ata33 interface. Thinking that this is a bit odd, I swapped it to the ata66 interface. (My two internal harddrives are both connected to the separate ata100 interface... is this a truly bizarre set of interfaces, or is it just me?) I then pressed the power button -- and the machine fans started blowing, and then stopped. Suddenly very interested, I promptly disconnected the power cable from the optical drive, and then tried again -- no dice. I pressed the power button a few times just to see what would happen, and I observed the fans on the rear of the power supply and one case fan were spinning up for just a bare moment about every few times I pressed the button. I then disconnected the main power interface cable from the motherboard, and did the whole pmu reset/battery out/pmu reset/battery back in series, and then replaced the power interface and pressed the power button. Voila! It powered up, so I promptly logged into the site and started typing.
Now, here's my thoughts: I would assume that the fact that it is presently booted up and running (albeit without the optical drive) rules out a failure of the front interface; do either of you concur? Also: I have not yet taken my multi-meter to the power supply, but my first instinct is to think that the power supply is just on the edge of my current wattage requirements, and disconnecting the power from the optical drive is what allowed me to boot. Correspondingly, I would speculate that this could be caused by either 1) my add-ons have exceeded the 400 watt output of the power supply, or 2) the power supply is indeed starting to fail.
So... since the machine is running at the moment, are there any diagnostic programs I could run against the power supply to find out if it's operating at design specifications? I'd expect this would be more accurate and more safe then me poking around with a multi-meter -- and it would be less expensive then a trip to a Mac repair shop, though that is certainly the next step if the power supply is dying.
    Thanks again for your advice!

  • HT3964 macbook pro early 2008 does not respond to the power button

I bought a second hand mbp early 2009.
All seemed well when I tested it prior to buying.
But, now 2 days later, the mbp is completely dead.
In the past 2 days I had sudden power-downs (suddenly switching of completely).
First I thought it was the battery, which I overlooked when buying. But now I fear it is more serious!
It did work. And it worked like a charme. I even upgraded the os to mountain lion.
But now I cannot get it to work at all
    Any help? Please...

What does that mean, you lost me.
As for your comment on how bright I may be, I'm bright enough to know not to buy a 3 or 4 year old Mac notebook.
    Good Luck.
I swapped de mb for another one. the person that sold it to me took it back.
contrary to most people I do not sneer at other people. My remark at the end is pure an observation. What you make of it, is your doing, not mine.
I buy a second hand mb simply because I need a portable, but cannot affort a new one (for the moment).
there is nothing wrong with a 3 year old mb, apart from that it is 3 years old. of course there is a higher risk of failure. that is (partly) why the price is lower.

  • HT3964 computer does not respond to the power button when pressed

macbook power button inoperative, computer dead... power cord hooked up.. what next?

    Hello 007grams,
Take a look at this article I found for you while researching your issue.
Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1367?viewlocale=en_US
    Resolution
If your computer won't turn on, try each of these steps:
Verify you have a good connection from your Mac to the wall outlet by confirming the power cord and adapter if present are securely connected and plugged in. To check if the wall outlet is working, plug in a lamp or other electrical device.
If the wall outlet is working and you continue to have no power try another power cord or adapter if available. If it works you may need a replacement cord or adapter.
Note: See Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters for further troubleshooting with MagSafe adapters.
Disconnect all accessories that are plugged in to the computer, such as a printer, hub, or other mobile device.
If your Mac supports user-installable memory, solid state drive, or hard drive, and you recently installed any of these, make sure they are installed correctly and are compatible with your computer. If possible, reinstall the original memory or drive into the computer to find out if the behavior persists afterwards.

Adobe Audition CC does not playback any audio file. He opens it but does not react on the play key. It is after use audio hardware usb wi-fi headphone and return to build-it out. The program don't react now.
    I see problem:
I am unable to get playback at all in CS6 on Mac. The play button or spacebar will not move the playhead or make sound come out of the foamy things with the magnets. The play button toggles back and forth between green and white, but it isn't working. This is true in both multi track and waveform view.
Anyone have ideas on what the issue could be? Thanks!
    Some Info:
    MacBook Pro 2.2 i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD
    Mac OS 10.8.3
    Audition CS6 5.0.2 Build 5
    and reply:
Best bet would be to go into Preferences > Audio Hardware, verify your input and output devices are correct, and probably switch your Master Clock to the opposite setting.  If that fails, we can continue troubleshooting.
I have the same problem as the author writes. But these actions do not help

Unfortunately I believe that requires purchasing the new version, and I do
not have budget approval for such a purchase.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup.
In order to restore with the unknown Restrictions passcode you will likely have to place the iPod in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • Why does Satellite Pro A300 not start when the power button is pressed?

Suddenly my new Satellite Pro A300 will not start correctly when the power button is pressed. The situation is this: When I press the power button the Toshiba opening picture (Leading Innovation) appears and disappers quickly. Then there is a black screen for about 30 seconds. Then there is a rectangular frame with the text Microsoft Corporation underneath. And nothing happens however long I wait.
In order to get on with the starting proces I then shut down the computer by pressing down the power button until the computer stops. ("The hard way to shut down")
Now I press the power button shortly to turn on the computer. Then the computer starts normally with the Toshiba opening picture and after a few seconds I am asked to open the computer in safe mode or in normal mode. I now choose to open in normal mode and the computer opens normally and is ready to work.
What shall I do to get a normal start procedure?

When notebook starts normally (after choosing normal mode) shut down your notebook properly using START > Shut down option. Next start should be normal.
When the OS is switched down on irregular way you will be always asked how to start it again (safe or normal mode).
The same happen on my Satellite A300.

  • My hp Pavilion p6230y died. It will not boot. The power button LED does not lite.

The power supply LED is lit, and all the voltages are correct (metered). The fans turn on when the power button is pressed, and I can feel the HDD turning and it gets warm. I stripped the system down to bare essential, nothing but wireless keyboard & mouse, HDMI connector to monitor. I cleaned out all the dust from inside the computer.I reseated the CPU chip. No beeps at all coming from motherboard. The CPU heatsink is stone cold. I suspect either CPU chip &/or motherboard. Anybody have any ideas?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Usually when the fans twitch it means that the CPU is OK.  That is not a theory, it is practical experience. My next step is what I suggested to you. Clear the CMOS settings. That is usually a last ditch effort. I always have a spare PSU around to verify that it is not the culprit.
Follow the troubleshooting on this HP web document to check your PSU.  Just testing it with a meter does not help much because it can fail under load. The multimeter does not put a load on the power supply unit. Even those cheapie PSU testers are pretty worthless, except for a cursory test.

  • Macbook will not shutdown unless the power button is held

Recently my macbook has been refusing to shutdown when I click shutdown from the apple icon menu. When I press the power button, no menu pops up asking if I want to shutdown my macbook. It only shuts down when I hold the power button. Nothing changes, and its as if the macbook ignored my command (my screen doesn't turn blue, nothing disappears). Has anyone experienced this specifically, and what can I do to fix this? Thanks in advance

    Hey Adam,
First off, Happy Friday! I would go ahead a try a hard reset to resolve this issue. You can find the instructions on how to do this on this page: Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues
If this does not resolve the issue post back with any new details and we can go from there.
    Thanks,

  • HT3964 My Macbook Pro did not respond to the power button, and I ended up resetting the smc.  After that, it would start, but the keyboard  would not respond, pnly the trackpad.  On the screen there is a symbol with ahorizontal white bar and a row of empt

After resetting the SMC the keyboard is inoperative.  On the start screen appears a traslucent square with a horizontal bar in white, and a row of empty dots below (the same format as for example the brightness symbol).  I cannot turn the Mac off with the power button, only with the trackpad, clicking on the turn off symbol on the screen.
When I try to login with my username, no characters appear as I type.
I can login as a guest, but from there I can do nothing, because the keyboard is still inop and if I wanted to, for example, have the software updated, I need to type an admin login, which is impossible.
    Thanks for your help

What happens if you close the lid? Sleep?
In your place I would use sleep state to reset PRAM, as it can resolve your graphical mess.
Your keyboard likely was not powered after SMC/PRAM failure, so you will need to open MBP cover without opening the lid and disconnect battery power cable with insulated tools from logic board, wait for 5-10 minutes, then try to reset PRAM while keeping cover

  • The keyboard in my MBA is not responding. The power button works fine and backlight is operating, but nothing else. I have tried SMC and Terminal but nothing helped. Would anyone have any idea what the problem might be? Thank you for your time.

MBA keyboard not responding. SMC didn't work.

If the USB keyboard still works after you log in, then the machine needs to be repaired.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.

  • HT2213 Holding the power button does not work

I've got a Mac Pro that stops recognizing my BD-ROM drive after it goes to sleep. I've been trying to reset the PRAM and NVRAM, per applecare's suggestion, but everytime I plug my Mac Pro in, it automatically starts up. I've turned off the "automatically restart" option in System Preferences, but it's as if all of that is stuck! So, I'm trying to reset the firmware using the firmware restoration CD, but when I hold down the "power" button, the computer's LED light flashes much more than three times, the computer gives a non-chime beep, then gives the chime, and then starts up using the Macintosh HD like I'm not holding down the power button.
Is there another way to get to the point where I can use the firmware restortaion CD? It's driving me crazy. I thought it was because I was plugged into an Uninteruptable Power Supply, but I plugged it into a normal power strip and there was no change.
    Any help?

the computer's LED light flashes much more than three times, the computer gives a non-chime beep, then gives the chime, and then starts up
Here's the meaing of the POST chime sequences:
Power On Self-Test Beep Definition - Part 2
As for the power led, if it is a sequence of single flashes that none of the ram is being detected.  If grouped in a sequence of 3 flashes then a single slot has failed.
Look inside your machine for any lit diagnostic leds.
    Blow out any accumulated dust.
    Reseat the video card.
I do not think firmware needs to be changed/updated/reinstalled.
