Notebook HP Pavilion | Touchsmart

My laptop has always been very efficient and useful, but a couple problems have been occuring with it latly.  One of the largest problems, is my Increadibly huge framerate drops happening this past month. Windows 8.1 without many tasks open, will run fine. However, I will open up a game (All games do this) and then about 15 minutes later, my notebook itself gets a framerate of about 1 or lower. A minute or two later, it returns to normal. Then the cycle repeats. I am sure it is not my internet, because it makes my whole computer lag. Also, I have a couple of occuring problems lately that may relate to this.My computer fan makes a buzzing noise, and sometimes I will start Windows and it tells me tht my system is not being cooled properly. My touchscreen does not work after starting windows, but at any given time it will start working again. How can I fix my main problem?

  • Hp pavilion touchsmart will not turn on

Hi, I have a hp pavilion touchsmart laptop. I used my computer the other day to save a file onto a flash drive and It was working fine. I haven't touched it since then yesterday morning I noticed it was off and wouldn't cut on so I figured it died and I plugged it up and let it sit on the couch to charger. When I went to pick it up and turn it on about an hour later it was very hot and wouldn't cut on. The light next to the charger port is orange when you first plug it in then turns white after a few mins. No other lights are on and nothing happens when I press the power button. I'm still under warranty but I would like to try and fix myself before I go through that long process. Please help thanks in advance.

    Hi @SKS_Paviliondv6
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that your notebook is stuck in a type of error loop, asking for a startup repair. I am happy to assist.
Have you ever backed up whatever data there is on this notebook, or is there anything of value on it? If there is nothing of value, you can try restoring the factory image, assuming it will function.
Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7)
Troubleshooting HP System Recovery Problems (Windows 7)
If on the other hand there is some data on there that you want to back up, then I would do that first. To assist with that you can use the service manual to help with removing the hard drive, and then you can use a compatible external drive bay, and connect that to another device to make a copy of the things you do not want to lose.
HP Pavilion dv6 Entertainment PC - Maintenance and Service Guide
Also you can refer to this page on various ways to back up that data.
How to Recover Data from the Hard Drive of a Dead Laptop -wikihow.com
If the recovery process fails as well, then it is likely a hardware issue of some sort. You can try looking at this page which offers some options for hardware testing, if you can access them.
Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7, Vista)
In my opinion, if the notebook is as old as you say, and if it comes down to a hardware problem, it is probably not worth fixing; but that also depends on the type of hardware failure. If it is something comparatively minor, and easily replaceable, then it may be worth doing; but if it involves a board or processor, then it is probably not worth doing at this point.
    I hope this helps.

I grasp you would like to install an SSD and would like to know if it will void your warranty.
Here is a link to the  HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC HP Pavilion TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide.
Page 39 has a list of recommended replacement hard drives.  There is not a SSD in the list.
I am unsure of how installing a unrecommended drive would affect the warranty.   I think the warranty would be OK, but to get support you may need to reinstall a supported drive.  To be sure I would give phone support a call to determine if this is correct or how it truly affects the warranty.

  • HP pavilion TouchSmart 14-n230ed underscan (black borders)

    Hello everybody,
I'm having a little problem lately with my new HP Pavilion Touchsmart notebook. A little while ago, my screen suddenly shows this big black borders around my screen.
I believe it is caused by underscan of the graphics chip (Radeon HD 8670M), however neither Catalyst Control Center or the Intel Graphics driver have any settings for these kinds of things. I have tried turning drivers off, reinstaling and updating de AMD drivers but nothing is working and I don't have a clue anymore how to solve this. I am using Windows 8.1. Could anybody help?
    Thanks in advance,
    Benjamin

    Hi,
Was this the download that you tried from AMD: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/mobile?os=Windows%208.1%20-%2064
It should provide the newest version of CCC (catalyst control center). You're looks to be older and could be why it doesn't have the option. Also, what's provided on the HP site aren't new enough.
There is one catch to using the AMD one, your notebook supports both the Intel 4400HD graphics and AMD 8670M, providing switchable graphics. This could disable that feature.
Another option to try is adjusting resolution settings to see if any are impacting it. The problem (as shown in the video) is scaling. The resolution setting isn't scaling to full screen correctly providing that boarder.
You could also, check to see if you have any Intel graphics manager program installed. I'm not sure on its title or where you'd find it as CCC is on the notebook.
The final option would be to contact phone support to see if they have anything else to add or provided.

How where i can find the drivers?
    Thank you

The page blankets a number of models, so be sure and choose the drivers that are applicable to yours.
Note that if you install the AMD driver from there, some of your advanced features may be missing. So in this case you may have to use the W7 driver from you HP support page.
Do a clean install of the driver, just don't install it over top of the old one.

  • Notebook HP Pavilion zd8130EA, maximum RAM configuration.

    Hello,
I would like to expand to the maximum the memory of the notebook
    HP Pavilion zd8130EA - (EB872EA)
    currently equipped with 512 MB DDR2 400MHz (2x256 MB).
According to the official datasheet, the notebook supports up to 2 GB of DDR2 memory.
Therefore I thought to buy No. 2 memory modules such as:
    2x 1GB DDR2 SODIMM.
    My questions are:
-How 1GB modules are supported, 1 or 2?
-Must be 400MHz or can also use 533MHz?
    Thank you

    Hi:
The easiest thing to do is to run the free Crucial memory scanner which will report how much and what kind of memory you can install in your notebook.
    http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/index.aspx
I can't find the spec sheet on your PC.
If it takes 2 GB of DDR2 memory you can install 2 x 1 GB of any DDR2 memory as it will downclock to the fastest speed the chipset/processor can handle.
Anyway, the tool above will give you the answers you are looking for.
