Notebook/Laptop optimized for Photoshop CS5

I researching the options to get a new laptop, primarily  for photo processing in CS5, Photomatix etc (Very minimum video  editing). From my research, I have found following recommendations for optimized performance:
- 64 bit OS
- Quad Core processor
- Faster Hard drive (preferably Solid State Drive, if budget permits)
- Graphic Card (1GB recommended)
I  cannot make my own machine, so I am searching online for HP, Dell,  Lenovo etc and getting following for about $1200. Any recommendations or  suggestions which can help in improving this configuration and making the right decision?
Thank you very much
Operating system
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Processor
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Quad Core processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.8 GHz
Graphics card
1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 Graphics [HDMI, VGA] - For Quad Core Processors
Memory
8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
Hard drive
640GB 5400RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection

Thanks for your helpful responses.
External display: I have a Samsung 22" monitor, whihc I will use for my work.
eSATA port: thanks, I am checking into this option, if I can't get a dual hard drive laptop.
I compared a Dell Mobile Workstation and got following specs for about $3000.Compared to the HP above, this one doesn't provide a quad core processor and 8GB RAM. However, the graphics card is lot better and it will support 2 high speed HDDs with RAID configuration. Seeing the proce difference, do you guys still suggest this laptop as compared to the one above? I am a bit confused here. Thanks again for your suggestions.

  • Best hardware/OS for Photoshop CS5

    Hi there,
i want to build a new PC, optimized for Photoshop CS5, with Windows OS.
Can anybody tell me the optimal hardware configuration to make Photoshop as fast as possible?
The program is primarly used for poster design.
    how much ram makes sense?
is there a noticeable speed increase using 8GB instead auf 4GB?
is there a noticeable speed increase using quad-core/six-core CPU instead of dual-core?
is there a noticeable speed increase using GTX460 Graphic Card instead of a GTS450?
what is the best hardware for photoshop CS5?
what OS can you suggest me? is win7 64bit the best windows os?
    Thank you for your support!

    Windows 7 64 bit professional.
8 gigs of RAM because it is dirt cheap and Photoshop loves RAM. Most motherboards allow more RAM if you wish to update.
Don't know about Nvidia cards. I use a ATI 5870. Video card drivers play a important part. But the Nvidia card suonds about Right.
4 core is fine. 6 cores I don't own yet but maybe next year.
I use AMD processor 4 core on my main rig. AMD uses motherboards that can be used over and over for most processor updates and just require a bios update. The Newer AMD processors due out soon may need a new AMD3+ board but that is not official so the AMD2 boards may work saving money.
Intel's are nice but everytime Intel comes out with a new processor line the board is always different.
I run a i720 on my laptop and PS runs great.
Buy a good power supply that will have extra power incase you upgrade later. Don't buy cheap power supplies.
At least a 7,200 RPM hard drive. Get 2 internal ones. One for your OS and programs and one for PS scratch disk and storage.
    Quality DVD burner.
Motherboard is up to what you want with the processor type. AMD or Intel. Read up on the internet and also the websites you buy from for customer reviews.
Look at SSD's with TRIM support for a boot drive too. These have reallycome down in price. Use a hard drive for a scratch disk. Get a velocity raptor that spins at 10,000 RPM. 600 gigs are offered now at a cheap price.
I am sure others will chime in.

  • Laptop spec for Photoshop

    Hi,
I'm sure this question has come up before but I'm putting together a laptop that will be mainly used for Photoshop, CS5 at the moment but later CS6 and possibly a bit of video editing as well. Any advice on whether it might be lacking in something or possibly overkill on others would be very welcome.
    Lenovo ThinkPad W530
    •     Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.40 GHz).
    •     Windows 8 Pro 64.
    •     15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) LED Backlit Anti-Glare Display, with color calibration sensor.
    •     NVIDIA Quadro K2000M Graphics with 2GB DDR3 Memory.
    •     16 GB DDR3 - 1600MHz (2 DIMM).
    •     128GB Solid State Drive, SATA3.
    •     DVD Recordable 8x Max, Dual Layer, Ultrabay Enhanced w/ SW Royalty for Windows 8.
Not sure whether the 128GB SSD drive will be enough for the OS and programs but I'll be using external drives for storage.
    Thanks,
    Vince

As I'm primarily a Mac user and not a big fan of laptops (though I have three of those myself), I'll comment on the hard drive space only.
    •     128GB Solid State Drive, SATA3.
    That's downright pathetic.  Unrealistically small.
Shoot for at least 300 or 500 GB, and plan on a dedicated, physically separate hard drive for Photoshop scratch disk.
No danger of overkill with the rest of your planned specs.

  • How much PC DRAM for Photoshop CS5, 2GB, 4GB, 6GB, or 8GB ?

I just bought a notebook via mailorder wich comes with 1x 2GB. It has a max of 2x 4GB. I shoot alot of NEF files on Nikon. I'm shopping on eBay for DRAM. How much DRAM do i really need for Photoshop CS5 Extended,  2, 4, 6, or 8GB ?

If you have a 64 bit system that can take the large memory, more is better.  Go for the 8 GB.
If I were building a new desktop system today for Photoshop work I'd put at lest 16 GB in it.  8 GB will be a healthy notebook machine.

  • How can I get the updates for Photoshop CS5 to download to my new Macbook Pro where I have already installed CS5 from my original disk? I have tried many times over 2 days. I was able to successfully download the current version of Adobe DNG converter.

How can I get updates for Photoshop CS5 to download to my new Mac book pro where CS5 is already installed from my original disk? I have tried many times over 2 days. I get the same error messages re downloading error. I successfully downloaded the current version of Adobe DNG Converter & it installed perfectly. Help please!

The Adobe auto updater is highly unreliable.
You need to look for and download the update yourself and then manually apply it as per the detailed instructions on the download page:

Please note that the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in must be updated separately, after you have updated Photoshop:

Where can I find the plugin to open camera raw files for Nikon D810 for Photoshop CS5.1? I've looked around the site but cannot get this to work.. Thank you.

See for yourself which version of ACR is needed for that camera’s RAW files
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
then check your version (Photoshop > About Plug-In > Camera Raw).
Your version of Photoshop does not support that version of ACR.
You could use the free DNG Converter.

  • Installing Optional Plug-ins for Photoshop CS5

I have downloaded the Optional Plug-ins for Photoshop CS5 but when I double click on the zxp file I get a message:
"There is no application set to open the document “CS5 Optional Automate Plug-ins.zxp”.
I have tried selecting "choose application" in the same message window and navigating to Applications>Utilities>Adobe Installers but the only option there is greyed out.
I am using Mac OS 10.6.8.
    Any suggestions appreciated!

  • Will a Serial Number for Photoshop CS5 Work for CS5 Extended?

    Hello,
I've recently subscribed to Photoshop CS5 and Dreamweaver CS5.5. In my Order History, it says 'Photoshop CS5', not 'Photoshop CS5 Extended'. However the download links in my Order History does not work (yes, I do have Adobe Download Assistant--in fact, I used it to download Dreamweaver CS5.5 without any problems).
So, I decided to download the trial version instead and enter my serial number that way. However, the problem is that I see Photoshop CS5 on Adobe's Products page, yet when I click on it, it leads me to Photoshop CS5 Extended.
I don't want to waste my time downloading CS5 Extended, only to find out that my serial number for CS5 does not work on it. So my question is: Will a Serial Number for Photoshop CS5 work for Photoshop CS5 Extended?
    Thank you for your time!
    -Mari

    Resolved!
For anyone else having the same problem: I contacted Adobe via phone, and they said that a serial number for Photoshop CS5 will work with Photoshop CS5 Extended.

  • How can I update Camera raw for Photoshop CS5 to access images from Canon Rebel T4i?

How can I update Camera Raw for Photoshop CS5 to access images from Canon Rebel T4i? The updated version of Camera Raw 7 says it only works with CS6. Outside of buying a new Photoshop, is there anything I can do?

Buy Lightroom (much cheaper alternative to Photoshop) - does all your 'Photo-related' tasks. Full version of LightRoom 4 is $149/- - http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom.html
LightRoom 4 supports ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) 7. Once processed with Lightroom, if you still need, you could take the photo in JPG or TIFF format into Photoshop CS5 for further processing.
Another option is to use Canon Raw Codec that would've come with your camera's box to process the RAW images and then take them into Photoshop.

  • I want to download whatever updates I need for Photoshop CS5. I try using Adobe Application manager and it isnt working.

I want to download whatever updates I need for Photoshop CS5. I am using Adobe Application Manager and there are updates but they arnt going through. It has been awhile since I tried. Dont remember when the last time was. But my Mac Book Pro is in good shape and I am finally getting around to this. didnt expect it not to work. Help?

    Hi Richei Creative,
    These would be my suggestions:
Create a new user account with administrative rights, log out of your current account and into that one, launch Adobe Application Manager and attempt the Photoshop update again.
Instructions if you need them  - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11468
If this fails, uninstall Photoshop (Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers) and reinstall Photoshop then from Adobe Application Manager the attempt the Photoshop update again, also from the newly created user account.
    Hope these help,
    -Dave

  • Has Adobe ended support for Photoshop CS5

I use Secunia PSI to monitor my software for updates. Right around the time CS6 shipped, PSI started reporting all of my CS5 applications as "end of life" meaning no more patches will be released.
Is it correct that CS5 is no longer supported with patches?
CS5 to CS6 seems like an upgrade of just one version, but maybe Adobe considered CS5.5 to be a full version upgrade?

Generally speaking, Adobe always stops releasing point revisions of their software the minute a new major version is released.
Version 12.anything is considered CS5, and the 12.0.4 patch for Photoshop CS5 brought it up to be functionaly equivalent of Photoshop CS5.5 (save for cloud licensing).
That said, there's a 12.0.5 that's "half released" to address some concerns over a vulnerability when opening TIFF files that was brought to light around the time of the Ps CS6 release.  It's not clear whether 12.0.5 is ever going to be released through the mainstream software update process.
Out of curiosity, why do you use a 3rd party update monitoring package?  Adobe has one of its own.
