I HAVE AN HP MINI 110- 3100.  I'VE REPLACED THE FAILED HARD DRIVE WITH AN HP-SUPPLIED ITEM.  THE HARDWARE TESTS ALL PASS.  I'VE INSERTED INTO AN EXTERNAL DRIVE THE RECOVERY DISC I MADE WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE MACHINE, AND THE DISPLAY SHOWS WINDOWS LOADING.  HOWEVER,  IT THEN MOVES TO 'HP RECOVERY MANAGER',  WHICH GIVES ME ONLY 1 OPTION:  'RUN COMPUTER CHECKUP'.   WHEN SELECTED,  THIS IS FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER MONO OPTION,  'OPEN A COMMAND PROMPT'.  WHEN I SELECT THIS, I  GET ' Administrator: x:\Windows\system32\Cmd.exe'   FOLLOWED BY  'x:\Windows\RM>'  AND A FLASHING CURSOR SEEKING MY  (I ASSUME MS-DOS)  INPUT.  I'M AT A LOSS TO UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M SUPPOSED  TO DO -  I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING HELPFUL ON THE HP OR WINDOWS WEBSITES.  ANY ADVICE WILL BE HUGELY APPRECIATED.

    Hi:
You won't be able to use the operating system for more than 30 days without a product key. It will just shut down after that and lock you out until you provide a key.
Your only option would be to keep reinstalling Windows every 30 days...
That is why I wrote you need to be able to read the product key.
I agree the instructions we a little bit hard to understand, but I was able to make an installation flash drive that allows me to choose several variations of W7 32 bit to install -- including Starter. I was able to find the ei.cfg file.
Go to your device manager. Are there any devices labeled with little yellow ! marks?
If so, please click on each one of them and post the hardware ID's.
If you don't know how to do that, please read the info at the link below:

  • My HP mini 110-3100 won't boot properly.

    Product # XV790PA#ABG, Windows 7.
I turn it on. It displays the first screen where you can hit 'ESC' to set system options, then it powers off. I find if I hit ESC, after a few failed attempts and power-offs, it will then start up. It has taken me through the process of recovering the system from system restore a couple of times now - makes no difference that I can see.
The netbook is 18 months old; store warranty was 12 months. NZ consumer protection law means that I can take a low-cost disputes case that will get me remedy, but I'm hoping to sort it out via these forums if it's something I can fix.

I would suggest trying to access the recovery partition or the advanced boot options.
To do that turn the computer on and tap the "F11" key immediately. It should boot to the recovery manager. If you can get here I would try to run a system restore. Here is a link to the instructions on how to do that. Select the option "Using System Restore when Windows 7 cannot start normally".
To get to the advanced boot options turn the computer on and tap the "F8" key immediately. If you can get to the advanced boot options attempt to boot into safe mode, last known good configuration, and repair your computer.
    Let me know what happens.

  • HP Mini 110 (XP) - No sound after reinstall

Hi there! I have a problem after reinstalling my HP Mini 110, and would appreciatte any feedback on this.
I formatted the pc and installed a fresh version of XP Home edition (SP2).
Everything went very smooth and all drivers where installed (Downloaded from the HP driver support site).
Video, network, Intel chipset, Wifi, Bios, everything is working like a charm... expect for the AUDIO.
I've installed the IDT driver, but when the installation starts it says something in the lines of  "your sound device is not supported by this installer" and shuts down.
I've tried with several different drivers (all from HP site) with no luck.
Another thing that caught my attention is that there are no sound devices in the "hardware management" tab of the system.... No sound card is detected! This seems really weird to me...
What could be the problem ? Any clues ? I should point that before the format the sound card worked perfectly.
My machine is an HP Mini 110 (1020 LA).
Thanks a million for any feedback!

    Paul,
    Thanks again for your feedback.
The interesting thing is that there is no device showing on de hardware management tab... Under sound there are no "unrecognize" devices or anything.... This look weird to me!
I'm assuming i have and IDT sound device as all netbooks from this series have it, and i had the IDT software installed before formatting the pc.
It's also importanto to mention that the sound device was working until Sunday before i made the new installation of WXP.
The strange thing for me is that nothing is showing up in the hardware manager.... There should be at least an unknown device showing me a lack of drivers right ??
I will aprecciate any ideas of thins i might have to look into to solve it...
    Thanks again!
    Best regards.

  • HP Mini 110-3131DX static audio after reinstall

I had to reinstall Windows 7 starter on my Mini 110-3131DX after which there was no audio,  I have tried installing the driver from the HP.com and CNET without any success.  There is no yellow question mark icon against sound under device manager indicating that installation of driver was okay. However when the speakers are made to test, just a quick static noise is heard.
Have been working on the resolution of this isse for several weeks and so now seeking help.  Thanks in advance.

    HI @AKS15 ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
It is a superb  place to find answers and information!
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide Learn How to Post and More
I see that you reinstalled Windows 7 starter and your audio has static.  You tried updating drivers from HP and from CNet but the issue remained.
HP recommends using the drivers provided on the  driver web page for you notebook.  If you install a different one that has not been tested the outcome is unknown.
Downloading or Updating Software and Drivers for HP Computers
Although you do have sound here is a link that may help. No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 7).
When you reinstalled Windows 7 starter how did you do it, from the recovery option or from a disk ?
Here is a link to the HP Mini 110-3131dx PC Drivers. Try deleting the driver not uninstalling it and then reinstall the one from the HP site.

  • HP MIni 110-1030nr - USB Problem!

    Hello!
I have 2 HP Mini 110-1030nr netbooks. Mine runs like a charm! I love it!
My dad's however is having major problems! For the first 2 weeks it ran great, but then the hard drive died in it. We sent it back to HP, they turned it around and had it back to us in less then 2 weeks! Great service!
But now, as we have been re-installing his software we have discovered the USB ports do not work right anymore. For example, my dad bought an external Samsung cd/dvd-rom drive. It just doesn't work right. It is unrecognized sometimes, or else it will show up but it can't see that a disc is inserted. Same goes for all USB devices... we attached an external WD Passport Hard Drive and it is not recognized either. The Hard Drive lights will light up momentarily and then just go dark. But when you disconnect the hard drive, Windows plays a little "disconnect sound" as if it knew it was there. Other times the hard drive will be recognized and work just fine, or it will work good for awhile then go dark.
Some items work fine on the USB ports... we have a little Verizon Pantech USB Data Modem, it seems to work good. And a little Sandisk 8GB USB thumb drive seems to work good consistently.
Could this be a power issue? Or something goofy on the mother board?
All these devices work 100% superb on my own HP mini, no hiccups at all. Need help! Need to know if I need to send this back to HP or if there is just a setting somewhere that I'm missing? I've tried going into the BIOS (F10) but there are hardly any options to change and none of them deal with USB.
    Thx!

figured out how to remove the hard drive. You remove the battery and there are 3 small phillips screws. Remove and put in a safe place. The screws hold three small metal tabs in place. With the screw removed, take a small flathead screwdriver and push the tabs up toward the keyboard carefully!!! This will lift the back edge of the keyboard nearest the lcd screen up in the air. Then turn the laptop over and grab the back edge of the key you just pushed up and pull it towards the keyboard and the keyboard will easily come off. Make sure to CAREFULLY remove the plastic ribbon connector from the connecctor and that exposes the harddrive. The rest is very obvious and simple. Reassemble in reverse order.

  • Hp mini 110 keyboard-spilled tea on it

Hi, I spilled tea on my hp mini 110 keyboard. I tried cleaning under the keys but that didn't help so I ordered a new keyboard. After installing the new keyboard all the keys worked minus the "Enter" key. The next day all of the keys on the middle row stopped working: A S D F G H J K L : " Enter.
My question is, could it be the new keyboard that is defective or maybe the tea that was spilled went beyond the keyboard onto the components underneath it that could be causing the problem. I may end up having to trash the whole netbook.
Thank You in advance for any help to solve this problem.

    Hi there @reggiebat
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that when you click on an icon it asks if you want to send it to the recycle bin. I am happy to help with this.
It sounds to me like both of your computers have a virus or other malicious software. I would recommend you check both systems thoroughly. The following pages have some information to get you started with this.
HP PCs - Resolving and Preventing Viruses on Your Computer (Windows 7, Vista, XP)
About Spyware, Adware, and Browser Hijacking Software
Another option would be to take one of both of them to a local computer shop that offers the service and have them check and clean your system.

  • HP Mini 110-1030NR keyboard

Replacement keyboards for the orginal keyboard on my HP Mini 110 have exhibited a common fault, the <Left Control> key is stuck on (not mechanically stuck however). I have verified fault with 3rd party keyboard test programs. Is it the driver, or some keyboard mapper, that need to be loaded? Or is it the hardware? I have tried two different replacement keyboards from different manufacturers. Thanks for the help in advance!

    Hey wally32,
For the left Control key being stuck, I have included the document 'Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 7)'. Please click on the option for Stuck Key, and follow through the steps. This will make sure that the keyboard software is up to date, as well also cleaning the key itself manually.
Please let me know the outcome of the troubleshooting. As this will help narrow down the issue, if it is still present after troubleshooting.

  • HP Mini 110 System Recovery Help

I was uninstalling programs put on my hp mini 110 (Windows XP).  I deleted the Roxio back up software by accident.  Now when I start the computer I get a screen stating windows did not start properly and im given the options of start in Safe Mode, Safe mode for Networking, Safe Mode for Bios, Start from Last Known  or Start Normally.  If I start in any of the Safe Modes I get a string of information and then nothing.  If I start in the last know I get a flicker on the screen and then back to the original screen and if I start normally it seems like XP is opening and then the screen goes black.  I can't do anything else from there.  I understand I most likely deleted important software.  I purchased the HP System Recovery disk (no usb available) and I have an external disk drive hooked up but the computer does not start the cd.  Any help would be great.  I tried to contact HP and since my netbook is out of warranty I have to pay $59.  They won't even help me understand how to use the disks I just purchased from them.

    Hi Rosen23185,
You will have to change the Boot Order and make the CD/DVD Drive as the first boot device in the same. Please find the instructions in the following document.
Configuring the Boot Order in the System BIOS: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c00364979&lang=en&lc=en&product=406...
Once the first boot device is CD/DVD Drive, please insert the Recovery CD in the Drive and Restart your Notebook. Upon the next Restart, the Notebook should start booting from the CD/DVD Drive.
Please let me know the results so that I can try helping you further. Thank you.

  • Hp Mini 110 1013tu Keyboard is Not working after upgrade to win 7

Hello need help on weird happenings to my keyboard..
Before i upgrade the Operating System From Windows XP to Windows 7 the Hp Mini 110 is working fine..
All keys on keyboard is working and touchpad is also working.
But after upgrading to windows 7 some keys on keyboard are not working like z,x,c,v, left ctrl and other more keys..
what do you think is the problem??
    Hardware Issue? or Driver Issue?
    please help thank you..

    Hello @MysticDragon ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand some of the keys on your keyboard are not working after installing Windows 7.
I do not see any drivers available for your notebook for Windows 7 on the HP website, so their might be some compatibility issues as it's going to rely on Windows update to find current drivers. This doesn't mean it will not work, but I cannot say for sure that it will.
    Try this:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Click Control Panel.
    3. Click Clock, Language, and Region.
    4. Click Region and Language.
    5. Click the Keyboards and Languages tab.
    6. Click Change keyboards...
    7. On the General tab, make sure English (United States) - US is selected in the Default input language field.
    8. Click on any other keyboards in the Installed services list.
    9. Click Remove.
    10. Repeat for all other non-English (United States) keyboards.
You may also want to try rolling back to Windows XP and see if the issue persists. It is possible the issue is coincidental and not the direct result of the update to Windows 7.
Let me know if this works!

  • HP Mini 110-3520ca constantly restarts when trying to restore from usb flash drive

    Hi,
I have a HP Mini 110-3520ca that I upgraded to Windows 8, but was having issues with freeze ups and shut downs so I decided to go back to Windows 7 Starter.    When I tried to restore to factory default the files were corrupted and I couldn't restore from the recovery hard drive or my external back up files.  I ordered the recovery  USB flash drive from HP and tried to restore from it.  It completes the Recovery Preparation and the Software Installation finishes, Windows starts to load, but Ithen it goes back to welcome to Recovery Manager.  When I try to start Windows without the flash drive I get an error log that is below.  Can someone tell me how to fix this or what needs to be done to get my Windows working again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi @Savvy58
I did some further looking into that Error Log you posted. Basically, it means that is looking for a certain location that doesn't seem to be there. This could be a problem with the USB Recovery drive that you have. I would recommend that you contact HP. You can reach HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or start here if you live outside of North America.
