NOTEBOOK PC WITH VISION AMD PROCESSOR

Purchased the above PC in July 2010 from Best Buy.   I did not take the extended warranty when it was offered in July 2011.  Here we are in July 2012 and the Best Buy Geek Squad folks tell me that I should replace this computer as it is overheating and that the AMD processor is known to do this!!!!!    Repair cost 350.00 for a 399.00 purchase?????? !!!!!!!!!!   I am so surprised THAT something of this nature would not last last more than 2 years. My expectation was that I would have to get a new before in 5 years because of outdated programming.    My husband has a 5 year old Dell with no problems.    I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED AND NOT IMPRESSED WITH HP NOTEBOOK AT THIS POINT.
Yes, I have cleaned the dust out of the fan area a few times.
Is there another alternative to keep my computer cool without costing me a lot of $$$.
Even better although the warranty has expired it would be GREAT if HP showed some good faith and fixed this gratis.

Yeah that would be nice for HP to fix it gratis but it is not likely to happen. What needs to be done is to disassemble the laptop and replace the cooling compound between the processor and heatsink. It is not really an amateur job but can be done by a local repair shop for more like $100 or theoretically it can be done for free by the end user who is careful and good with a screwdriver. Best Buy is not a good place to go for this type of repair since they have to send the unit out to someone else and still take a cut of the proceeds.Even with that $350 is bordering on criminal. I can do it in two hours and for $350 I would be making almost what I charge as a lawyer.
There are even places on eBay which will have you send the laptop to them in a box, fix it and send it back for around $100. Let us know if you have any more questions. Keep in mind we do not work for HP we are all just end users like you so don't shoot the messenger.

  • HP Notebook System BIOS Update (AMD Processor)

    Hello,
I was looking through my updates and everything to make sure my computer is working to it's fullest. I noticed there was a recommended update that I should follow through with which is the HP Notebook System BIOS Update (AMD Processor), and I've download it and installed it, then afterwards, my computer told me that I had to restart it, which I did. I agreed to update it but it keeps popping up in the suggested updates and I've tried multiple times to do it. It never seems to work!
    Please help.

Here is a direct link to the F.36 BIOS which is the latest. Have you tried downloading it and manually launching it rather than using the HP Update utitlity?

Make sure you have a charged battery and AC plugged in. Let us know what happens.
You might also try going into the BIOS (F10) as you power up and check the existing BIOS version. You may already have F.36.

Then it either is a pirate clone or you are misinformed.
Apple Computer has never used AMD processors in its products.
However, the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) is a Radeon unit, which is an AMD subsidiary. Parallels, VMWare, VirtualBox will all work fine with the Intel Core i7 or i5 CPU that powers the Mac, and use the AMD Radeon GPU that drives the displays.

    Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

You can upgrade to one of the supported AMD processors listed in chapter 1, page 1.

He's trying to load some GM testing software on it for testing GM vehicle's & it's rejectiing it & causing error messages cause of the AMD processor not being capatible with the software.
He doesn't want to go out & purchase a new laptop if this can be performed instead.
Contacted AMD & Intel support but still waiting word back from them.

    Hi, Brent:
The entire motherboard would have to be replaced in order to install an Intel processor.
More cost effective and easeir to purchase a used or new notebook with the Intel hardware the customer wants.

  • CS3 Wont Open in Windows 7--AMD Processor Issue--HELP!

After much, much searching I've found there's been a common issue with AMD Processors on Windows 7 and getting CS3 to run correctly. Apparently a patch was created, that fixed the problem for users with similar issues. But the links to those patches are no longer valid.
I have no phone right now, chat aint working--and I can't email Adobe of course, soooo someone please...
The forum I found with those links and explanations is here:
    http://www.sevenforums.com/software/25313-adobe-cs3-64-bit-ultimate-3.html
From there, this pretty much describes it:
"Just bought an HP Pavillion Elite with Windows 7 Home Premium and AMD processor.  Photoshop CS3 would install but would hang when accessed. Some forums  suggested that Photoshop CS3 is incompatible with this AMD processor and  Windows 7 (64-bit). I called HP and was told the software is  incompatible. I was just about to return my computer when I found this  forum. I downloaded and installed the patch. I then opened Photoshop  (for the thousandth time) and voila--it FINALLY opened!!!"
I've also found many other isntances of this complaint with AMD Processors--Photoshop gets a window open then goes into Not Responding. All other applications don't open at all (but are visible in my task manager). So it's not really a Photoshop specific complaint but I'm placing it here.
I've updated graphics card, changed the desktop theme to Classic, not Aero, tried running the programs in different compatibility modes, all to no avail.
This patch these guys are mentioning has GOT to be it. Someone help me get back to work!!
    thank you all in advance.

I had not tried "run as administator." What the hell is that?! I see where to do it and all, but honestly, these permissions
/security/owner/administrator issues on Windows 7 are nothing short of ridiculous.
Every time I think Microsoft may have finally done something right...
I'll try that again down the road. For the moment, looks like Adobe Acrobat 8 is completely incompatible with Windows 7 and almst impossible to delete from the system. SO first task--restoring factory setttings.
In the meantime I'll speak to that patch for Licenseing:
Solution 1: I ran it, but didn't seem to do anything. There was no confirmation of a successful "install," or what you might call it. Secondly, when running again, I was never prompted to enter 0.
Solution 2: I believe those settings were already set as described and so I couldn't really make any changes.
Solution 3: Those folders don't exist, so couldn't do that one.
For various other reasons I wasn't having luck with the next couple thanks to stupid permissions. I'll try again once I've gotten back up to speed.
But yea, someone out there seems to have found a CS3 patch. Am I at least to presume that CS5 would def. work on my comp, and therefore, CS6 is a shoe-in?

  • AMD processor causes annoying high-pitched whine

Just got a new Toshiba M305D with and AMD processor, and I may end up having to return it. There's a faint but definitly audible and extremely annoying high-pitched whine sound. I've done a Google search and I now see that I'm not the first person to be experiencing this. (Oddly enough, there's a trick to make it stop, though it's not a permanent solution - open up the "Sound Recorder" tool, in the Accessories folder.)
Don't know if Toshiba has any kind of exchange program. Anyone have any experience with this? From what I've read, the M305s with the Core 2 Duo processor do not make the same sound.

Same problem here.  It's a very annoying sound, and not something that should normally happen with a laptop.  It's really pretty piercing and makes concentrating in silence difficult.  I brought back the first one I bought to Best Buy because I thought it might just be a defect, but the replacement they gave me (same model) made the sound as well.  I called Toshiba support today, and they opened up a case for me that will be submitted to management.  I have a case number and they should be contacting me with a resolution.  Hopefully they'll give me a credit so I can get a different model.  I'll post the resolution here if I remember.

I am running Photoshop CC 2014 on Windows 8.1 with an AMD quad core processor and AMD E1-2100 APU with AMD Radeon HD 8210 Graphics Card. I have installed the latest driver version 13.152.0.0. When I activate puppet warp, the mesh appears over the image and I can place the first pin.  However, when I go to add the second pin, Photoshop crashes. I have tried with on a new, blank file, with just a few lines on it, but, as soon as I place the first pin, the image disappears, and then, as soon as I click anywhere else in the image, Photoshop crashes. I have followed all the online advice about settings under the Preferences/Performance interface, but nothing fixes the problem. Can anyone please help?

  • I have a HP Pavilion p6710f with an AMD Athlon Quad-Core processor takes 10 to 12 minutes to boot

I have a refurbished HP Pavilion p6710f desktop, with an AMD Quad-Core processor.  About 4 weeks aog I reformated the HD and reinstalled Windows 7 Prof and the rest o my software and it ran fine for about 2 weeks then it started taking 5 to 10 minutes to boot up in morning or to restart.  I had downloaded a couple of things and I uninstalled them and it did better, but gradually over the last week it has started taking 10 to 15 minutes to boot up or restart.  With either it takes a few seconds to get the HP stuff in the middle of the monitor, then in a few seconds it loads the choices (Function keys for setup, recover, etc.) then it takes 4 to five minutes to show "windows loading" the 3 to 4 minutes to show the 4-colored windows logo and then up to 5 minutes to load my icons and be ready to run--once all this is done everything runs fine until I need to restart, and then it is 10 to 15 minutes again to get up and running.
When I redid everything about 4 weeks ago I made an image on an external 1 Tb HD that is always connected thru a UBB Port and this morning I recovered and It reinstalled it, but it did not help.
Don't think it is the BIOS battery as it doesn't lose time.
    Hope someone can help me

  • Is Desktop with AMD Processor suitable for SAP ECC6.0?

    Hi,
I want to install SAP ECC 6.0, ESS/MSS, EP , NWDI on my desktop.
I have desktop with following configuration.
    AMD 3.0 Ghz Processror
    4 GB DDR 3 RAM
    500 GB Hard Disk
    OS:
Windows 2003 Enterprise Server 32 bit
I have tried to install SAP packages on above desktop which fails every time. Prerequisite checks goes fine.
Installation will fail at Step 12.
I dont understand whether the AMD processor will support for SAP or not.
    Please help me.

    Hi,
    Two things:
    1. Refer to the Product Availability Matrix for SAP systems at http;//service.sap.com/pam and click on the link for SAP ERP 6.0. This will show you all the product-OS-DB-Processor combinations that SAP supports. Basically, the platforms that are supported by various SAP products. You should only install SAP products on platforms that are listed here.
(FYI - For SAP ERP, Win 2003/32bit is only supported for IA32 processors. check PAM)
    2. Still, paste the logs from the SAPInst log file as suggested above and we can tell you in detail what the issue might be.
    Regards,
    Shitij
