Notebook recovery

I have bought a HP Pavilion dm4-1112tx about an year back. The laptop is running with Windows 7. Yesterday the laptop went down with no battery as there was no powercord connected. During the restart I get a blue screen, then it performs repair and fails. I tried the systems recovery, it shows the recovery successful and to restart the system. But during the restart it goes to the same screens again and again. I appreciate any help on this issue. Thanks.

Enter BIOS by tapping away at the F10 key immediately after powering on the laptop.Use Diagnostics to test the hard drive.

  • HP Pavilion g6 Notebook recovery following hard drive replacement

After replacing a failed hard drive with the same Samsung/Seagate ST500LM012 that came in the notebook I now cannot recover the factory settings. I continue to get the "Bootmgr is missing" error, even after trying three different recovery oiptions through the HP Recovery Manager (Factory Reset, System Recovery and Minimized Image Recovery). I have also tried the various bootrec comands posted in the HP forums that are suposed to fix the MBR (FixMbr, FixBoot and Rebuildbcd) and it always seems to indicate that no Windows installation were found and therefore doesn't give me the option to "add installation to boot list?".  I also reset the BIOS settings to original.
The closest I got to a successful installation was when I selected the "Minimized Image Recovery" option, however it had an error late in the installation and when it restarted it came up with errors that it could not find HideCMD.vbs and HideEXE.vbs in C:\system.sav\Util\TDCTWKS\.
I am using the Recovery Disk set that I made when I purchased the notebook, and it does not give me a Startup Repair option.
Am I just not following the correct procedure, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Windows 8.1 notebook , recovery using recovery disc

my spouse after  spending less than 10 hours in 20 years of having computers in our home thought he had made recovery discs after I purchased his notebook for him.
It turned out he did not follow the instructions correctly and made only 1 recovery disc.
Now I have the recovery discs set but some say to press the F10 key and others say the F9 key, which is the correct way to do a recovery, no speakers are attached right now and it is plugged directly into the wall outlet, not even connected to the Internet.
I purchased it for him with windows 8 pre installed and 8.1 downloaded with the updates, he did a restore but is no longer working correctly, no apps or email,( windows live mail). When he turns it on updates download and then uninstall and then his notebook freezes up, it seems he cannot do a recovery from the partition on his system.
Would someone please tell me the correct way to do a recovery for my spouse so that I can fix his notebook .As I said he rarely uses any computer not even to check his email, he leaves that for me to do.
As for me I am more familiar with windows 7 and hate windows 8.

it is  F9 key. The HP instructions here should be helpful:

    Hi:
The only graphics driver you should install for your model is the AMD graphics driver which will install both the AMD and Intel GPU's.
If you installed the Intel graphics driver from your PC's support and driver page, that could be preventing the correct AMD driver from installing.

You need to call HP Technical Support and request for a set of Recovery Disks , So you can recover/restore your Notebook at the earliest

  • Can i use my notebook recovery disks to migrate from a 640gb hd to a 120 gb ssd?

Hi, I want to replace my 640gb harddrive with an 120 gb ssd. I created 4 recovery disks from the recovery partition of my notebook and i want to use them to recover my windows 7 installation to the SSD. Is this possible? Or does the recovery expects 640gb of drive space for a recovery? Br, Peter

    Hi, Peter:
Most likely the disks will error out and inform you of trying to use them on too small of a hard drive.
    But, give it a go.
If you can't use them, then do this next best thing...
Before you remove your existing HDD, copy your SWSetup folder to a portable hard drive. That contains all of the program and driver installation files that came with your PC in sub-folders. You can click on them now to see what you can reinstall.
    Then...
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to DVD's for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • Pavilion DV7-1228ca Notebook Recovery

    Hi,
I have a laptop Pavilion dv7-1228ca running Windows Vista. I guess it may have infected with virus and it is unable to boot. When I turned on the machine, the screen was black and all the indicator lights were turned on and the machine was continuously reading the dvd drive. I would prefer to recover the personal data files; otherwise, I did create my recovery disc (1 to 3) but I never use them before. Could anyone help?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi DP-K,
Thanks for your reply. I have tried the following two ways.
    1. When I pressed the power button, the BIOS prompts were not shown up and the screen was still a black screen. The Recovery Manager was not launched.
    2. I put the first recovery disc (which were created after I purchased the machine) on the DVD drive and turned on the machine. It did not do anything either and it continued to read the drive. The screen was still a black screen.
    Are there any suggestion?
    Thanks again!

  • Unable to complete notebook recovery on hp2000

Hello.  I received my HP recovery dvd in the mail a while back, and am just now getting time to work on it.  I am in Windows set-up right now, nd can get no further then the screen... Where do you want to install Windows?   It lists:\\
    Drive 0 partition 1
    Drive 0 partition 2
    Drive 0 Unallocated space
    Drive 0 partition 3
    Drive 0 Unallocated space
At the bottom there is the error msg.... Windows can't be installed on this drive.
In the details area it states:
WINDOWS CANNOT BE INSTALLED TO THIS DISK.  THE SELECTED DRIVE HAS AN MBR PARTITION TABLE.  ON EFI SYSTEMS, WINDOWS CAN ONLY BE INSTALLED TO GPT DISKS.
It states that for all drives/partitions.   Do I need to format one of these, and if so, which one.
Thank you, and yes I am new to this.

    Hi,
Your correct yes, these are all actually one hard drive so you will need to format all of the partitions and then create a new simple volume this will allow the computer to read it as a complete hard-drive and allow you to install windows.

  • Re: notebook recovery

Yeah youtube can be a pain, helpfull but it seems like digging a trench trying to find a certain tutorial, but I just remembered dealing with this same issue with my friend. He got a laptop given to him and it had the bios password on it as well, I pulled out the cmos battery and let it sit for 24 hours then reinstalled it and it worked. Who knows you might have the same results and if you need it up and runnin sooner than that download that software I mentioned it has a bios password cracker on it plus it has "Mini XP" which you can access from the boot options menu and that will get you back on line no prob. Anyway I hope you get it resolved soon and someones advise here points you in the right direction, good luck.

In your case everything is somehow complicated. ;)
Enter BIOS settings, check if ODD and HDD are detected and listed properly. Set BIOS to default settings and after restart press F12. When boot menu is shown on the screen put recovery disc 1 into ODD, choose CD/DVD drive in the menu and press ENTER.
Is there some ODD reaction? Does ODD try to read the disc? If yes but nothing happen try to clean ODD lens and check if the discs are OK. Test it also with some other bootable disc. It will be interesting to know if the ODD is able to read the disc or not.
You must also find out if the HDD will be properly recognized by Windows setup. Try to obtain original Microsoft Windows installation disc and try to check this.
Make please some tests and post the feedback please.
