Notebook won't start

I was working on my laptop, pavilion dv2618ca, on sunday, and it was functioning perfectly fine. Shut down went proper as well. Yet two days later, i tried to turn it on, and it wouldn't do a single thing, not even the boot up screen would pop up. It was as  if the laptop had no power, even though the power cable was hooked up. It didn't even show any signs of any failure on sunday. Any suggestions????

Hard reset. Remove the battery and disconnect power. Hold down the power button for 20-30 seconds....now attach power and try to power on. Do you get the blue light around the AC adapter jack on the laptop? I give the hard reset a 10% chance to work but still worth a try.
The sad new is that the dv2000 series laptops with AMD processors (including yours) has been a nightmare for their owners. There was a recall by HP and a class action lawsuit, but those are long ago closed. Yours is in the second generation of the model (numbers 2500 and higher) and was not technically subject to the recall or the class action, but everyone who works on laptops knows the second generation is almost as bad as the first and pretty much just as prone to failure. The laptop is now about 4 years old and you have gotten a pretty fair life out of it. There are sites on eBay and otherwise on the 'net that have developed pretty good techniques to repair them and competition has actually driven the price under $100. The issue is an nVidia video chip that does not keep itself attached to the circuitry of the motherboard because the application of heat over time causes the solder points to come loose. The solder can be reheated (reflowed) and the connection reset. If done carefully and properly the laptop is as good as new, but good as new is still potentially defective. The cooling system can be bolstered and the issue can be worked around, but at the end of the day you cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Still for about $100 or less you can be pretty sure you will get another 6 mos to a year and maybe even 2 years out of the laptop and that is not too shabby.
If you can afford it, buy a new laptop. If interested in the fix post back and we can point you in the right direction.

  • Notebook won't start after BIOS upgrade

    Notebook: HP Pavilion dv6-7003
    OS: Windows 7 32-bit
An HP update thing just came up telling me to update, so I did, after they were all downloaded/installed I restarted and then it went to a special BIOS screen telling me what to do (not to turn off power, etc. even after screen goes black). So I just left it, and next time I looked (like half an hour later) the screen was still black with just the caps lock key flashing. No matter how many times I try to restart still nothing happens.
I tried to do the thing that told me to hold down the windows key + B and then the power key but that didn't work.
    Help please? =[

  • Lenovo G510 won't start when battery is on and it's fully charged

Hi there. I have my Lenovo g510 i5 notebook for 10 months, and my battery is wrong. I haven't used it on battery too much, but when I used it, I empty all of it and then charged it when it's turned down. Couple of days ago, the battery was empty I put it to charge, the orange light appears that it's charging, and day after when I put the battery on the notebook won't start, but with the battery and adapter start normally and show that the battery is 100% (fully charged). Why I can't use it on battery? Please help me.

    Hi Kocevski_91,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with system not starting with battery in your G510 laptop.
Please remove the battery and connect only adapter and check for the issue, also try to perform a power drain by removing all the external devices connected to the devices and shutdown the system, now remove battery and adapter, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, connect battery and adapter and check for the issue.
If still the issue persist, perform battery gauge reset, go to power manager select advance mode and select battery tab and click on battery maintenance under this option click perform under battery gauge option. Please perform and reply with results.
Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

  • Hp x360 won't start

Computer will not power on, nothing occurs at all minus blue led next to charger plug. No fans, no blinking, unresponsive after 30 second hold down as well.

Hi , Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY 15-u201ne x360 and issues with the start up screen. Here is a link for help when your Notebook won't start correctly.  I would start at the top and work my way down. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook. I hope something here helps you fix the Notebook. Thanks.

  • Notebook won't boot with usb device plugged

    Hi,
Voila, I have a Satellite Pro Sp6100, when i try to boot it whith an usb printer plugged in, the notebook won't start at all. i have latest bios version 1.90.
    Thx,
    Barzot @+

    Hello
It will be interesting to know if the printer is ON or OFF when you start the unit. I have tested my Tecra M1 with USB stick and the boot up procedure needs about 5 min. If I put the USB stick out the unit starts as usual.

  • [SOLVED] Sage-mathematics (Notebook) won't work after a recent update

    Hello!
I've got troubles runnig sagemath's notebook server. After a recent update it goes like this:
    $ sage -n

│ Type "notebook()" for the browser-based notebook interface. │

Please wait while the Sage Notebook server starts...

The notebook files are stored in: sage_notebook.sagenb

sh: symbol lookup error: sh: undefined symbol: rl_signal_event_hook
And the notebook server won't start. Searching for the solution yields Notebook won't start with bash 4.3 (unanswered question from 2 Mar) and Minimise security risks with an application that needs root? (same error message, but the main idea is about some third-party untasted software).
Since sage-mathematics is in official repository and there is wiki page I figured out I would ask here, because still no solution found except for downgrading bash or going with virtualization.

When i start an example application e.g. LocalSearch i will get an error and the application won't start. Whatever i try, LocalSearch.jnlp or LocalSearch.html or another application from the javafx site, i see only the pretty java-gif-circle.
It looks like that there is an update in progress on the sun site and the new files are not available.
Even the 'javaws -import http://dl.javafx.com/javafx-cache.jnlp' update command failed with this exception.
    What happening here?

Thats weird... it works on my notebook at home. There is the http://dl.javafx.com/javafx-rt-windows-i586__V1.2.0_b233.jar stored in the cache and when i try to update the cache with javaws -import http://dl.javafx.com/javafx-cache.jnlp it is all ok. No request to download the v1.2.1.jar.

    I've found one solution.
The jnlp file http://dl.javafx.com/1.2/javafx-rt.jnlp in my cache had the version V1.2.1_b23. So this was the actual version and was not updated with the cache update. In this file there was the refenrence to the rt-windows.jar V1.2.1_b23, but this isn't jet downloadable. So i've deleted the http://dl.javafx.com/1.2/javafx-rt.jnlp from the cache and run an update again. Now the right version was downladed and i'm happy now.
But i don't know where i've got the javafx-rt.jnlp V1.2.1_b23 file. It doesn't matter anymore.
    Have a nice day.

  • Older Macbook won't start after attempting to install snow leopard

A friend of mine with a pre intel notebook inadvertently tried to install Snow Leopard and now it won't start up.  Any suggestions?

    Hi DOGG,
I'm not sure if he erased...  When you power it up you get the gray screen with the apple logo for a few minutes then it shuts down.  I put Leopard in and pressed the C key while starting up and I got the Installer but my only choice was to erase everything and install or erase and journal or something like that.  It shows that there is 23GB disk space remaining and 185 total so I was hesitant to proceed because it looks like maybe everything is still there.  Then found my old Tiger install disk and tried to start from there and it just kept powering itself off after a minute or two.  I read something about the Tiger install disks were specific to different models so maybe mine isn't compatible?  Anyway, I've asked him to find his install disk so I can try that.  But if it sounds like his hard drive is erased should I just go ahead with Leopard?

  • Satellite A200 - Button support won't start on windows start up

    Hey,
Today I decided to turn off as many useless program's as I could (to speed up my pc) so I went to Msconfig (I have vista home premium 32 bit), and turned a lot of things off. Including the "toshiba button support". The next time I restarted my extra buttons on the top of the keyboard all worked, beside one. The one that normally turns windows media player on. This time, it did nothing at all. The play/resume, stop, forward, backward and internet button all worked without problem.
However, I really liked the WMP button, so I tried to find out what the problem was. I found out it was the button support, so I decided to turn it back on.
However, this did not help :( . I turned it on in msconfig again, but it won't start with windows anymore :(. I know it's the program I need, because when I manually launch the program (it's the program: programfiles/toshiba/TBS/HSON.exe ) the button works.
I did put a V in front of the program in msconfig, but that did not work. Anyone has an idea why not?
Edit: I found a solution, although not the best. If anyone ever has the same problem:
I made a shortcut from the program that had to run (can be found in C:programfiles/toshiba/TBS and is called HSON.exe). Next I clicked on start, and said "all programs", here I selected the folder "opstarten", this is the dutch version, but my guess is it is called something like "start up" in english. In this, I pasted (copy/cut -> paste) the shortcut to the program, and now it starts again :)

    Hi!
I agree with Akuma. You should try to reinstall the Toshiba Value Added Package. This controls the media buttons, FN buttons and all special functions on the notebook.
Look on the Toshiba website for an update:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

  • Satellite A65 won't start and I get only blue screen!

When I start my satellite A65 a blue screen comes up saying "a problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer"
it says to check if I have adequate disk space or to either disable or update the driver if a driver was mentioned in the stop message... or to check bios updates...
I can type out everything it says if I need to, but that the jist
Does this sound familiar to anybody?
It might be because I didn't update enough when it told me to.
It won't start, not even on safe mode, and it won't let me restore, which I would be perfectly willing to do at this point.
    help, please
    Jamous

    Hi
Usually the Blue screen of death happens due to the serious software problem or due to the hardware malfunction.
In your case it sounds more like something wrong with the hardware. Why, because you are not able to restore the notebook from the delivered Toshiba recovery CD!
What to do buddy? I think the notebook must be checked.
Try to contact an ASP in your country and ask for the further handling!
    Good luck

  • NB 505 won't start up.

Dropped my notebook today & went to open excel sheet & computer froze saying windows not responding. I took battery out & put back in. When turned back on, went through this whole startup repair status & when finished says"windows cannot repair this computer automatically". Says click finish & restart computer, have done several times & end up at same window that says "startup repair" click finish & shut down. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
    Ryan

    Problems:
    - Won't start up. LED for the power button comes on,
    but have a blank screen.
    - LED #7 flashes 7 times and then stops.
    - Initially fans don't cut on and when they do they
    run really loud.
    Things I've tried:
    - Reset PMU
    - pulled RAM out and reinstalled
    - Tried to boot off of an external harddrive that has
    a clone of the OS
Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong and
how I could fix it. And if not, is there any way to
get files off of the hard drive. There are student
files that I need to ge off if possible.
Sorry about the trouble. I don't know how long you have had the Quad, but hopefully you got Applecare with your purchase. I've had AC with the last several Macs, and it has paid off bigtime through phone support, along with warranty repair/replacement.
If you did not get AC origianlly, you still should be within that year period when eligible to get it. Might be a good idea to look into.
All this won't help your immediate situation, but could help getting the Quad back up and running.
If you decide the AC route, look on the Internet and get a better deal than retail.

  • Satellite P100-286 won't start anymore

    Hi,
I have a P100-286 which I don't use very often but today I tried to switch it on and all I get is a flash from the lights near the speakers and the power light comes on for a few seconds then nothing.
The battery light is lit up red but it also won't start if I take the battery out a connect it to the mains?
Is it likely the laptop is dead or could it just be the battery?
I have only had it a few months and don't use it very often so the battery has not been under much load

    Hmm sounds not good!
    Try this firstly;
Remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor for about 20min.
After this short period, connect the battery and the AC adaptor again and try to start the notebook.
If this simply procedure does not help, you will have to contact the ASP in your country for a notebook check.
    Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

  • Satellite L30 PSL33E won't start at all - LED flashes six times

    Hello,
My poor mother is quite distraught! Her Satellite L30 PSL33E has just died.
It completely shut down and now won't start at all.
Orange light flashes six times when the power button is pressed.
No hard drive, fan, screen or any other noise / activity.
She has tried it without the battery.
Some sort of hardware failure I imagine.
Any ideas what this blink code means?
    Thanks in advance,
    D.

I dont know what the code means but you can read it; short means 0 and long means 1
Anyway, the error code means that an hardware fault was detected on the motherboard and only the motherboard replacement could help you?
    Why?
because is really hard to repair a notebooks motherboard.
Its mostly not possible if you dont have enough knowledge, experience and special tools.
I think either you will contact the ASP in your country and will ask for a fix or you will have to buy a new notebook ;(

  • Satellite P300-13M won't start at all

    Hello everybody,
my Satellite P300 - 13M with product number PSPC4E won't start at all!
When I put down my screen, it automatically goes in hibernation mode. But the last time I did this was just too much apparently.. I've ejected my battery and put the adapter in to see if it would start. Negative. I've put the battery back and ejected the adapter. Negative. I've connected both the battery and adapter. Negative, no result at all.
Does this mean the end of my laptop?
Please help me as fast you guys can because this is my only working laptop.
    Many thanks
Ps if you want specifications, then i cannot give you them. I don't know the specs by heart.

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there but if there is no reaction at all Im afraid mainboard is death.
In my opinion repair is probably not the solution. New motherboard costs a lot of money. Either you can find used one, maybe refurbished and exchange it or sell notebook on eBay and buy new one.
