Notes Gone AWOL

Hi,
I have been using the notes app on the ipad2 (4.3.5) since I got it, I backup regularly (plugging it in to the Mac and letting iTunes do the rest), but until this evening I have not needed the actual notes I had written on the iPad, I saw the option to sync notes which I checked then applied. Unfortunately all the notes from the iPad2 have now disappeared and some minor notes from a Yahoo account (on Mail) have now taken their place. As I have the iPad to sync on connection, my panic saw to it that the notes from the Mail account have synchronised, so a revert to backup has failed to materialise the iPad2 notes.
Clearly I am an imbecile, but perhaps someone out there could help me find the location of the notes from the iPad as in my humble opinion it would be astonishing if the notes from the iPad2 where not copied to some location on the mac. Neverthelss I would clearly appreciate some assistance on this matter. Surely I must be able to salvage some of the text?
Cheers.

Notes sync over the air - I think - at least according to what is says in iTunes .... but you can sync in the Advanced/Other section of the Info Tab in iTunes and it states that the sync will replace the info on the iPad with the info on the computer
Here is the site that talks about iPad backups
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4079
I copied part of it here. I indicated relevant copy in bold type. Some content syncs to the iTunes library - some content is stored in the backup.
About Syncing and Backups
You can use iTunes to sync content on your computer (such as music, applications, podcasts, videos, photos, notes, email account settings, contacts, calendars, and bookmarks) with your iPad.
iTunes creates a backup of your iPad when you sync, which you can then use to restore from if you need to return to a previously backed up state. Except for some specific exceptions noted in parenthesis below, you can also use a backup to transfer this information to a different device.
iTunes keeps only one backup created during the sync process for each device. If you restore the iPad and choose to set up as a new device from the Set Up your iPad screen, iTunes will automatically sync and create a new, empty backup that will replace your previous backup. If you change your mind and want to restore to your previous state, you will have to retrieve your previous device backup from Time Machine (on your Mac), or other backup solution you regularly use. If you have Mac OS X 10.5.5 or later and use Time Machine, you may use Time Machine to find a previous backup.

Not sure what changes you made so this is a wild guessing game.

  • If there's not gonna be dynamic wallpaper for iPhone 4's with iOS 7, can there at least be a panoramic feature??!!

If there's not gonna be dynamic wallpaper for iPhone 4's with iOS 7, can there at least be a panoramic feature??!!

No. From the iOS 7 features page:
Panorama format is available on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPod touch (5th generation). Square and video formats and swipe to capture are available on iPhone 4 or later, iPad (3rd generation or later), iPad mini, and iPod touch (5th generation).
Sorry, but if you want those features, you'll need a newer iPhone.

Content acquired with an Apple ID is permanently tied to that ID.
There is no reason to create a new Apple ID, frankly that will just create more issues.
It is possible to load content from multiple Apple ID's onto a single device.  If the content is in the computer that the device syncs with, simply select the content and sync it.

  • Hidden BIOS options NOT gone with 1.4x

I noticed a post a while ago that mentioned the hidden BIOS options for the K8N Neo (and family) have been removed in 1.4x.  I didn't notice any post afterwards mentioning that they are not gone, so I figured I'd share how to get access to them incase anyone cares.
The exact key combination I'm not sure about, because it's kind of odd the way you get them to appear.  What I do is (while in the BIOS obviously) press Alt+F1, Control+F1, Shift+F1, Alt+F2, Control+F2, Shift+F2, then Alt+F3.  I've tried this in 1.42, 1.45, 1.47 and 1.48, and it works in them all.  It should probably work for the others as well too.

  • I'm not gonna say "iCal blows"... You know it, I know it, I won't say it.

"honk" What's with these little alarms on iCal? ... Who's gonna hear that? I'll tell ya who: Nobody and if you're sleeping, you can forget about it.
Now see here, I'm 57 years old, I can hardly read what I'm writing. I wanna change my calender. Can someone help me?
I take hair cuts between 10-4, 5 days a week. After that, I'm DONE! 1AM, 2AM, 3AM... Who needs that? I wanna to cut that out and have more space. I gotta be able to write and be able to read "2:00PM Vinny 955-9455 hair cut & shave. Owes $2400 from the horse track."
Check this one out: When you click on an appointment, instead of doing what it should and open the edit window, it open a window asking you if you want to open the edit window or close the window you just opened... What's the heck's that all about? Think about it, it's a complete waste.
Is there some kind of alternative "iReceptionist" app for like, you know, businesses? Look, I'm not sayin iCal *****, I would NEVER DREAM about sayin anything like that. Everybody else already says it, why should I? Who know, maybe iCal's go for something... I just can't figure out what.
You should put me in a think tank. I'll make your company thousands of dollars. We'll all get rich! Felice Anno Nuovo!

You can change the default iCal alarm sound using these instructions.
    http://www.macworld.com/article/132412/2008/03/105icalalarm.html
It's a bit involved, but, you only have to make this change once ever and it becomes the permanent default alarm sound.

Under iCal Preferences (command+,) > General, you can select at which times you'd like your calendar day to begin and end.

Double-clicking on an event opens the "view event" window.
Command+I (or right-click "get info") on a highlighted event opens the "edit event" window directly.

iCal has serious deficiencies (e.g. recent removal of calendar groups), but I don't believe those among them.

  • Stopped emailing Notes - now all notes gone.

I wanted my iPod to stop automatically emailing me Notes. I took "notes" off the list of settings for my email, and now all my notes are gone. How can I get them back? They're in my email, but not on my iPod! Can't I have notes without them getting mailed to me every time I edit one?

  • Exchange Messages Disappearing, but not gone on server.

I recently installed Lion, and I love it, but my mail is acting up. With my exchange server, it deletes my messages from my computer shortly after I read them. It is NOT deleting them from the server, but anything read is now gone from view on my computer. I have disabled and re-enabled. I have deleted and re-done the account, but to no avail. What am I missing?

who are you using for a email provider???

  • Recent Notes Gone, not in email, can anyone help me

So this is the second time this happened (the first time I was unable to retrieve lost notes). I only lose certain notes during whatever is going on. I thought it was my iCloud being weird so I turned that off. Now it has happened again and an 8 month ongoing book I've been writing has disappeared in the same manner as before (i'm dumb for leavin it on my notes, i know). Certain notes from about 8 months ago that I deleted show up again but the ones I really care about are gone. I checked every email I had saved onto my phone in the notes section and it wasn't there. I have no idea what's going on and am extremely angry. If someone on the apple support whatever could help me out that'd be really swell. Also, I had a list of passwords that were on one of the notes that are lost. If someone gets those im screwed.

I can't send from both my email accounts. Both are .Mac accounts.
    I get two error messages:
    1) *Cannot send message using the server smtp.mac.com* It then asks me to choose a different outgoing mail server (none of them work).
    2) *Unable to verify SSL server mail.mac.com* An SSL error occurred while trying to read data from the server 'mail.mac.com'. Verify that this server supports SSL and that your account settings are correct.
    *My settings under mail are:*
    Account type: .Mac
    Incoming mail server: mail.mac.com
    Outgoing mail server: smtp.mac.com
    Under "server settings":
    Sever port 25
    Use SSL is unchecked
Again, I can receive but not send mail. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Podcasts gone AWOL

    Greetings;
Today, after not using iTunes for several days, I opened it to refresh the podcasts for the trip to work. Clicking on the Podcasts source, the content pane was empty! No Podcasts at all! I had built up a nice list of podcasts over the years, now all gone!
Searched the discussions and kbase. No joy. Went to the Advanced prefs and pointed again to the music folder on an external drive where it has been for a long time. Selected File > Add to Library... and pointed to the Podcast folder on the external drive, but the added items were not the same as last week, some kind of subset from months ago.
Searched for how to rebuild the database and came up with a "re-create" procedure that sounds extreme and will require I export all of my dozens of playlists one by one and later add them back, Ouch!!!
Good golly, what is going on here? The music, movies, books seem to be fine, iPhone sync'd fine to all other tabs. It's just the podcasts, that are gone, gone, gone!
    AAAaaarrrggghhh!
Any ideas? is there a rebuild or something less extreme than deleting the database completely and adding all the playlists back?
    Please help, Sincerely, dave

Chris, thanks. A follow up if you don't mind.
I have iTunes pointing to a folder on an external FW drive where there is a folder with folders inside by artist name. At one point in the past I just told iTunes to put the music there using the specified procedure for moving music to an external. Still, in the iTunes folder in the Music folder, there are folders for Album Artwork, iTunes Music (containing only a few folders and a podcast folder that doesn't match my lost podcasts), and Previous Libraries, an iTunes Library file and an iTunes Music Library.xml file. The latter two show modification dates in 2006, which furthers the mystery.
So, specifically, when you say restore from backup, do you mean something like trashing the entire iTunes folder but not the music folders on the external? and then going to Backup (the app) and restoring the most recent iTunes folder from there?
    Thanks.

  • HD GONE AWOL

    Greetings,
My internal HD on my 17" G4 powerbook is no longer being recognised. When I try to start up, it gets to grey screen and no further. When I boot from tiger disc and go to disk utility, it tries to find HD but fails.
I also have tried to view HD using system profiler ATA and I get the same spinning wheel of death.
Has my HD gone to God?... and would this mean my PB is also dead, or can I replace the HD?
    Help me please

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
It sounds like your hard drive may have gone to meet it's maker, so to speak. It would be good to run the Apple hardware test to confirm whether the drive is dead or whether the logic board has an issue.
The hard drive is replaceable, and hopefully you had any important files backed up. As Arnie pointed out, it's not trivial to replace it yourself, although if you're handy you can do it. Otherwise, best to leave it to Apple or an Apple authorized service center. When you replace it, you might consider a larger hard drive, as many types of files take up more space today versus a few years ago. Also, you have the option of installing a quicker 7200rpm hard drive.
