Notes in iCal events disappear

I've had trouble with notes within iCal events, as well as the parameters for repeating events and catagories, disappearing for no apparent reason from my Mac, iPad or iPhone (the phone seems to be the most frequent culprit).  They all sync with each other, and regardless of which device I use to enter the event note, random ones will just vanish.  Has anyone else encountered this?  I use these event notes for accounting purposes, as I book clients with iCal.  It's rather inconvenient when they're suddenly not there anymore.  Thanks!

I sync iCal between multiple iMacs, a MacBook, an iPhone, and an iPad and I have the same problem.  Any thoughts/feedback would be greatly appreciated!

  • Some iCal events disappear when in week view

    Hello all,
I recently had a double agenda booking. Today I found out why:
In week view some iCal events disappear... When i switch to month view, they reappear.
So, depending on the view i have open time slots. Not very reliable.
Anyone know what i can do to return to solid bookings again?
    Best regards
    Fred

Same problem here. I just imported everything from my old MacBook to my new one using Time Machine. My events appear in the Month view but not in the Week or Day views. So I went back to my old MacBook, created an iCal backup file, and emailed it to myself. Opened it on the new machine, restored from the backup file, and . . . same thing!
Very strange!! I need my daily events to be visible. Any help out there?

  • My Ical events disappeared how do I restore with time machine/mountain lion?

I recently installed mountain lion.    Today my ICal events disappeared and I can't restore them with time machine.   What happened?   How do I fix it?

Did you try rebuilding the library's database file as follows:  make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Ical events disappearing on OSX Lion

I actually have three issues, and these appear to be quite common issues with OSX Lion users:
    1. When I receive email calendar invitations (attachments come in as .ics) I can open the .ics file, accept the event and it goes into iCal for about 5 seconds, then disappears. This only happens on invitations that are sent to me. Events I creat are stable, no issues.
    2. The time zone is way off. The events are most frequently coming from an outlook server in my same timezone but the times are usually about 7 to 8 hours later in iCal than stated in the .ics attachment. If I send an acceptance, the time that goes back to the inviter is the incorrect (7 to 8 hours later) time and it causes confusion.
What's worse is once the iCal invite disappears and I go back to their email invite to re-populate iCal with the invite, it queues up another "Accept / Maybe / Decline" response. Time is still incorrect.
Any thoughts on how to fix these issues for good?

  • Is there a way to shut off sharing your notes in iCal events?

Hey there, long time lurker, first time poster, haha.
I have dates/events on iCal a specific shared calendar I'm using, and it's my understanding that previously iCloud didn't share the notes you had made for that event - only date, time, location, etc. I liked that the notes were private, I had some info I didn't want to share with the other members of that calendar group attached to those events in my iCal. I don't see any options for customing what is shared and what's not on iCal. Any insight in to that would be helpful, thanks!

I don't believe you have any control over what is shared, only whether to share it publicly or privately, and who to invite. (At least I've never seen any documentation indicating that do.)

  • Upgraded to 10.6.3 and ical most ical events disappeared.

    Hello,
I've just upgraded to 10.6.3 from 10.4.11 and most of my ical events have disappeared. It has kept a handful but as I rely heavily on ical for my day to day tasks and diary this is a disaster!
    All help gratefully received.

    bessp,
...Before upgrading, I manually backed-up to a lacie
If you still have the original backup, you can find the Tiger .ics files in the ~Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources Folder on the lacie.
Open the Sources Folder to reveal Alpha Numeric named folders. These folders contain corestorage.ics files which represent the individual calendars on your Tiger system. The corestoreage.ics files can be copied to the Leopard computer. When the corestorage.ics files are opened on the Leopard computer you will be offered to import them. If you do that be sure to select the option to make a new calendar for each one of the .ics files.
...Can I trash the cache file and .plist from my desktop?
    Yes.
Be sure to log off MobileMe before replacing any calendars, and log on after replacement. When you log back in, you should be informed that this computer has never been synced with MobileMe, and you will be offered to replace the data on MobileMe. That would appear to me to be appropriate since MobileMe apparently no longer contains accurate data.
It may also be beneficial for you to use "Chat" on MobileMe Support. Use this link: http://www.apple.com/support/mobileme/ >Syncing with MobileMe>Troubleshooting MobileMe Sync issues>"Chat Now."
    Good Luck.

  • All iCal Events Disappeared

    Hi
All of my ICal events just disappeared before my eyes! Basically I had a physio appointment this morning, went there and booked for teh same time next week. So I copied my existing event, and pasted it on the next Friday.
At that point, all events just vanished! I clicked undo, shut Ical down, rebooted, but none of those things bought it back.
I have them on my iphone, but I fear syncing will lose them.
    Help!

Yes, my entire calendar from March on back to the beginning of time suddenly disappeared. From May forward it's still OK.

  • TS4062 iPhone 6 not syncing iCal events

I created a few events on my laptop & discovered they're not syncing with my iPhone 6+.  However, my iPad is updating events perfectly, so I don't think it's a router issue.  So, I conneced the cable between the laptop & the phone.  It performed a sync.  For some reason, the "WIFI sync w/ this device" option was turned off on my laptop, so I turned that one & followed the trouble-shooting instructions for problems w/ syncing w/ WIFI.  Turned off iTunes, turned my phone off & restarted.  Same problem except now my phone won't update ical events even when connected via a cable.   All my software is up to date on all devices.
    Ideas?

Hi I had time to call Apple today and it seems hopeless. The reason why my iPhone will not sync is that I have an old Macbook (1,1) which cannot handle a higher version of OS X than 10.6.8, which itself cannot handle a higher version of iTunes than 11.4.
With this version of iTunes I can load and install new versions of the iOS and it backs up the phone when I do so. But I cannot start a backup by pressing the Backup button, iTunes stops backing up after a second. Also, I cannot sync, the button is always greyed out.
It does not look like Apple intends to upgrade their software and iTunes for my Macbook anytime soon so it seems I am out of luck...

  • ICal events disappeared (not linked to MobileMe or iCloud)

    Hello,
    I run iCal 4.0.4 with MacOSX 10.6.8.
I recently noted that all events before 6 May 2011 have disappeared and I don't know why.
The preferences are not set with the 'Delete events ?? days after they have passed' (the box is not ticked).
I did a test yesterday looking if the events where disappearing but that is not the case, so this morning events after the 6 May 2011 still there.
My iCal is not linked to ModileMe or iCloud in any way.
Where are the events before 6 May have gone? Can I retrieve them? Would events continue to disappear?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks

You need to ensure that each device (including the MBP) is using iCal from iCloud (NOT a local version of iCal).  Using the MBP as an example, click on the Calendars icon in the upper left corner and look for something similar to the following:
If it does not say ICLOUD at the top, there's your problem.  Post back and we'll go from there.

  • All iCal events disappeared beyond 90 days ago

I just noticed that all of my events—except for repeating ones—have disappeared from my iCal calendar, from August 28th backwards. In other words, I have everything still for the past 3 months, just the stuff before that is gone.
Since I've got MobileMe and an iPhone, I checked those, too, and same deal: everything except repeating events (birthdays, weekly and monthly custom stuff) is gone.
I've no idea what happened. I don't have any iCal setting set to delete past events.
Since I have Time Capsule set up, I'm wondering if there's a way to go back and grab the iCal calendar before all events and appointments got deleted. I'm positive it's in TC, just don't know how to get it, and yet not erase the stuff that's been added since.
    Any ideas?

Mike, Thanks for posting. I'd done a search for this issue and nothing came up, so I appreciate you linking back to that thread.
For anyone following this, that other long thread doesn't have any solutions other than Mike's post. So I'll copy his solution here:
"I have got my old calendar data back into MobileMe without downgrading by:
1.Restore ~/Library/Calendars from Time Machine (use "replace" option). This adds all the events Including (all the earlier ones) into "on my mac" calendars. So if you have both the "MobileMe" and the "On my Mac" calendars ticked then the recent events are duplicated. You could stop here and leave the "on my mac" ones unticked unless you wanted to see the history. I went on to......
2.Export each calendar from "on my mac", and import each to the corresponding MobileMe calendar.
3.Manually remove the duplicates for recent events."
I'll add my own two cents: I wasn't sure how far back to go in Time Machine, because I completely forgot which day (or month) I'd upgraded the MobileMe Calendar. In fact, I tried about 4 dates, and then checking to see if the old calendar (on my mac) was back. Each time, it wasn't, so I kept going further back in Time Machine (finally until August 1, 2010). Weirdly, it still wasn't back.
But then I noticed an interesting file inside of (home)/Library/Calendars, called Cache. There were actually a couple of them. I wondered if it acted similar to Safari's cache, in that it kept things just like they were an hour ago. So, I deleted all of the cache files, and boom, all of the events were back.
Strangely, all of the events and to-dos I'd added since August were also still in the calendar. I've no idea how it did that, since I thought I completely replaced the contents of the Library/Calendar folder.
    Some other tips:
    1. before doing anything, backup your Calendar (File: Export: iCal Archive) just in case you need to redo the whole thing.
    2. Back up the current Library/Calendar folder. Probably the same thing as doing the above Archive, but I'm not that smart so I did this as well.
    3. Sign out of Mobile Me (System Prefs: MobileMe: Account: Sign Out), so that MM doesn't try to overwrite your good work.
    4. Quit iCal before working with Time Machine.
    5. Before working with Time Machine, I took screen shots of each month (in Month View) for the last few months. This was in case the backup would delete all of the stuff I'd added since the date I was backing up from. As noted above for reasons I can't figure out, the old Calendar kept all my new stuff from the last few months, so I didn't end up needing the screen shots. Still, I'd suggest doing it!
As Mike noted, there were some duplicates. I couldn't see any pattern to the dupes, but they were mainly birthdays, repeating tasks, and a few multi-day events. Not a big deal.

  • ICal events disappear only in Day and Week views

Using iCal 3.0.2, I have suddenly acquired a new behavior. Several "subscribed" calendars appear fine in Month view, but their events do not appear in Day or Week view.
I have deleted Caches > com.Apple.iCal and I have deleted Libraries > Calendars > Calendar Cache. Neither has had any effect. I also tried deleting Preferences > com.Apple.iCal.
Any ideas on how to be able to see these events in the Day or Week views?
    Thanks very much,
    Gus

Still no date headings when my calendar is views in the Day and Week views. All of my appointments are there. The days of the month appear in Month view. But when I change to week or day, I don't know what day I'm looking at because there are no dates. Only "2010" appears in the upper left.
Any ideas? I couldn't be the only one this has happened to!
    Thanks, Wendy

  • IPod synch - not updating iCal events

Several people have posted that their calendars are not synching to their iPods/iPhones/&c. at all. When I synch my iPod(s) (80GB video), the iCal calendars show up, but using an older database. That's to say that I change and add and delete events on my iCal database, but the iPod does not reflect the changes until weeks later. I have tried backing up iCal, re-synching .mac, resetting synch data, and changing the calendar settings in iTunes from All to Selected Calendars (and then selecting every calendar). I have even reset the iPod and updated the iPod software through several versions, but I still have the same problem. Sometimes after I synch with iTunes, I actually have no calendars on my iPod at all, although resynching seems to take care of that.
I have had this problem for a while (so it's not Leopard's fault) and on more than one iPod (so it's not a problem with a particular iPod). One thing that I have noticed is that the deletion of one instance of a repeating event is never reflected in the iPod calendar. That is not, however, the only problem with the synch, as new, one-off events do not show up, either. Because I need to have this calendar up-to-date whenever I leave the house in order to make appointments during the day, this is an untenable situation. I'm certainly not spending money on an iPhone (or recommending any of these products to anyone) until Apple comes up with a solution for this.

I have the same problems, or sometimes it transfers some of my calendars but not others, although "synch all calendars" is checked. Does anyone know a fix for this?

  • Notes in iCal keep disappearing since Yosemite

My notes on my recurring calendar events keep disappearing.  I have tried adding them through iCloud.com and that will work for a couple of days and then they will disappear. This happens when I add notes via my MacPro, Macbook Pro or iPhone.  I can't find anything related while searching the discussions in the last couple of years.

I've entered in a bug report so we'll see what happens....

  • ICal Events Disappear - When I option-copy?

    Hi,
I am using iCal at work, along with TimeLog (http://timelog.com/). I am also subscribing to other staff members' iCals. We use it like a timesheet, to see how much time we spend on different projects, so every minute of the day while we're at work has to be filled up.
Anyway, I usually option-drag (copy) events into new days so that I don't have to always make a new event. This seems like it should be fine. Unlike most of the apps I use, iCal doesn't have a save feature (right?), so I wasn't worried about it. But today I opened it and all kinds of events are missing. The most I can figure out is that it seems to be the duplicates, the ones that I option-dragged to copy. Anyone make any sense of that?
    Thanks a lot,
    Ariel.

Same problem here. I just imported everything from my old MacBook to my new one using Time Machine. My events appear in the Month view but not in the Week or Day views. So I went back to my old MacBook, created an iCal backup file, and emailed it to myself. Opened it on the new machine, restored from the backup file, and . . . same thing!

  • Add Address Book Notes to iCal events?

I've used 3rd party software to create events with alarms for Address Book birthdays. None of the dozen or so solutions I tried had an option to include the Note field data in the new events. So I either need a solution that does this, or one that will will get the Note from Address Book and add it to my new events. Maybe an AppleScript for the 2nd option?

    Greetings,
Under Mac OS X 10.5.8 with CalDAV calendars, attendees are drawn from the server, not the local Addresbook.
Local calendars "On My May" read from the Addressbook.
Under Mac OS X 10.6 and later it reads from both the server (CalDAV) and from Addressbook.
So you are doing nothing wrong.  Sounds like the calendars are working the way they are supposed to on the version of the OS that your profile says you have.
    Cheers.
