Notes, reminders quit when closed

Just downloaded mountain lion. Whenever I "close" (X out of) of the reminders or notes, the apps quit and I have to relaunch them. How do I keep them from quitting when I close?
Sam

You don't. Applications which are written to rarely or never open more than one window presume that you want to quit them when you close that window.
If you don't want that window to appear, hide the application from its menu.

  • Notes, Reminders and messages closing app syndrome

    Hi,
I noticed on ML that REminders and Notes do not have the 'normal' OSX behaviour, i.e. when you close the window, the app exits. Is this normal ? Why ?
More annoyingly messages does the same if you only have an imessage account active, so I need to keep messages window open to stay connected.
    Any thoughts ?
See you on the bitstream, Alain

    Hi,
Most of the time in any app this seems to depend on the number of windows that an App has.
It also seem more common in Apple apps.
System Info (previously System Profiler) seems to Quit on Closing the window.
As does Keychain Access, Network Utility, Calculator to mention a few.
I tested Calculator in Snow Leopard and go the same action so it has been there for some time
In Messages the iMessages account only would tend to only show the CMD + 0  "Messages"  window where the Contact and text messages appear.
However I Logged Out (Disabled the "Enable this account" setting ) on all my other accounts and then went to close the Messages window and the app did not Quit.
I can't repeat the last bit of your post.

  • Flash CS4 (Mac) quits when closing file

Not sure if this is a bug or an oversight or a "feature", but
no apple application quits when you close a document.
On Macs, when a document in a Flash CS3 (or any other mac
app) is being worked on and then closed, the application stays
active (open) in the dock so you can quickly open any other
document. But Flash CS4 (trial) quits when I close my document.
Whats up with that? This is more of a PC functionality that I
    really don't like.
    Thx
    Fish

    Hi Fish,
I also had this problem but soon realized that files now open
in tabs. To close a file without quitting Flash, close the tab --
    not the window.
    Hope this helps,
    Sean

  • Firfox 4 - can we not save TABS when closing?? I just lost everything!

I installed Firefox 4, had several TABs open before the upgrade. When Firefox 4 opened I had all the TABs. When I wanted to close Firefox there was no SAVE button, so I lost everything.

  • How can I stop Muse from quitting when closing a document?

A lot of utilities automatically Quit when you close a document window.
I'm making a number of HTML slides with Muse, and continually creating a new Muse document (or site). Every time I close a site, I have to relaunch to open my template. I could keep a site open in the backround, but that populats the tabs in plan view, and could cause accidents.
Is there a way to stop the application quitting?

Of course you are right, Zak.
But, on a Mac, clicking the red button top left in the window, normally closes the window and not the app. Closing the app instead of the window by clicking this button only happens with rather small software-tools.
I know, Muse is a one-window-application. Therefore it is a certain logic behind the behavior. But, let me bet, every muse-user on a Mac very often closes the application by mistake.

  • Executable does not stop running when closed

I am trying to build an executable, but it does not stop running when I quit. I have to stop it through the task manager. How can I make it actually stop the .exe thread?
I have confirmed that the loop stops running, and have even tried connecting it to the "stop" function.
    Thank you!

It is done in the "Quit" case of the user events.
But you left the right side tunnel unwired from the the inside (so the event reg terminal OUT contains the valid refnum to the user event you just tried to destroy)  Event terminals behave like SRs with invisable wires in every case that is not wired
Here is an example demoing just this behavior.
I'm sorry, but I can't see th eexample because I am running 2009. I think I understand. I've cleaned up the code a little bit, and added a shift register for the events. Is this what I needed to do? This still does not solve the problem, unfortunately. If I close, the "Quit" sequence properly executes, (including closing of the front panel), but the thread still does not close.

  • Firefox 11 does not warn me when closing multiple tabs. How do I do this?

(Tools/options/tabs tab/ warn me when closing multiple tabs) How can I get this to work so I can set it once and keep the warning in different sessions.
(Other replies seem to indicate it has to be done through config for each session)
    Thanks Alf
    OS XP Pro sp3
    Firefox v11

    Hi AlfLinus,
You should only have to set it once. Does the actual checkbox disappear when you open a new session? You should look at the article [[Preferences are not saved]]. Firefox might be having trouble writing to your pref.js file.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • My notes application quits when I try to select a note to open. I have restarted it, but no change. Suggestions?

The notes application on my ipad quits when i try to open any one of my notes. I have restarted it a couple times with no luck.  Any suggestions?

Thanks Alex, but sadly I already tried that. Neither .docx or .xlsx files show up in the content list. They both show as a Chrome HTML document so changing how Firefox addresses those doesn't help since it thinks its the same type of file. I don't think I can manually add files into the "Content Type" left side nav.

  • Firefox will not quit when closed.

I have two problems with Firefox. It "hangs up" after a couple of minutes and will not quit and when I go to restart my computer, I now have to manually close some windows to get the computer to restart.
I was on Firefox 3 something and Firefox would go along nicely for about 10 minutes and then hang. The computer wasn't frozen - it just hung and you couldn't go to any other pages or connect to any other links.
I upgraded to Firefox 7. Same problem. I upgraded to the latest version of Flash player. Same problem. I uninstalled the latest version of Flash player, reinstalled the earlier version, and then gave up when nothing changed and reinstalled the latest version again. That's the first problem.
The other problem is that when the Foxfire window hangs and you close it down, Forefox is still running in the background and nothing, I mean nothing, not the Task Manager, but nothing will close it except rebooting the computer. If you restart, you get window that says nsAppShell:Event W... and you have to manually close that window to restart your computer and it takes for freaking ever.
I have done everything I can think of and everything that has been suggested, as far as I know. I have uninstalled Firefox 7 and reinstalled it again. I have deleted the parent.lock file (yes, I remembered to delete it when I reinstalled FF7 again). I have checked every extension and plugin I have. I don't have many, but I did check them all. Doesn't matter whether they're disabled or not, Firefox still hangs up, although sometimes I get the nsAppShell window again and sometimes I don't. If I disable one plugin, I will not get the nsAppShell, but then the next time with everything else the same and that plugin still disabled, I will get it again. Now I'm getting a window about fonts that needs to be manually closed before I can restart the computer.
I'm at the end of my rope. I love Firefox, but tomorrow for the first time in 6 years, I'm going to another browser because I need to be able to use my computer. You guys have no idea how absolutely frustrating this is. I'm having to use IE right now and I hate IE. But if I can't use Firefox, what else can I do?
By the way, my computer worked fine all day yesterday. Last night there were some Microsoft updates that went in automatically when I shut down. Maybe it's those? But there is one other thing I saw and that was that Grease Monkey was updated today. Now I disabled Grease Monkey and still got the nsAppShell window and Firefox still hung up. So I uninstalled and reinstalled that too, and it still didn't make a difference either way. But maybe it has something to do with it, although I wouldn't know how to fix it if disabling Grease Monkey won't fix the problem.
OK, post script: I closed Firefox down about an hour ago or more ago and couldn't get it to quit again. I decided to not restart the computer again, so I just left it go and went to IE. I just now, for a lark, tried to restart Firefox and it did restart, but it's taken an hour to do that. I went to another page and it hung up again. So I don't know, but I have to be able to be able to use my computer and right now that's impossible using FIrefox.

OK, I think I have this solved. After reading my post over, I decided to rethink the problem. First thing I did was download Chrome and I tried using that and IE again and surprise! I was having the same problem on those browsers as well. So now we know it wasn't Firefox. I then figured maybe a slow computer meant a virus, so I ran scans. I've had both Avast and IOBit for months now and I've never had a problem with either of them before. Then I downloaded Malwarebytes and ran a third scan. They all picked some stuff up, but nothing serious. Then I tried disabling all the antivirus stuff and that didn't solve anything. But then I decided to keep Malwarebytes and I uninstalled IOBit Security and whammo - problem solved.
I have no idea why out of the blue IOBit would be causing a problem like this so if someone knows, please let me in on the secret. Additionally, IE was working fairly well last night but not this morning. I also don't know why removing IOBit would take care of the nsAppShell issue, because supposedly, that's related to Firefox plug ins. And one more thing...when Comcast hooked my neighbor up to cable, they did it by putting a splitter on my line. They were messing about with the lines yesterday before I got on my computer last night trying to decide how to rerun them and today they did that, taking the splitter off my line and giving my neighbor his own line. That was finished about 30 minutes before I uninstalled IOBit. So....who knows?
But I ain't about to look a gift horse in the mouth. I have my Firefox back and I am so sorry for bad mouthing you last night - I love you, Firefox!

  • Firefox quits when closing the cover of my MacBook Pro (putting it to sleep)

Self-explanatory (see title). I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro, running Mac OS X Lion (10.7.3). Whenever I close the lid to put the MacBook Pro to sleep, Firefox quits. I don't think it crashes or hangs; when I open the lid later, Firefox is just not running, and must be re-opened.
This is incredibly annoying, because I have to connect through a proxy server at work, and this results in me having to Restore Previous Session, re-authenticate, and then wait for 10-25 tabs (my To-Do list) to be reloaded. Agonizing. Help?

    Hi,
When I look at your system details, it does have a crash ID on it (bp-0bffc60f-9713-426c-b7b3-214962120301), so you might find some help in the article about crashes, where it describes starting Firefox in safe mode and then seeing if the problem still happens:

  • PS Touch Android does not release memory when closed.

I have to force closure with Task Manager on my Samsung Note 2 running JB 4.1. Why and when will it be fixed?

    Hi Ignacio,
Sorry for the lack of information - I had typed more complete description, but had trouble posting it.
The app is installed on a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phone that is running Jellybean 4.1.1.
The only way I can see to exit the application is by using the "back" soft key under the screen on the right. Some apps have an "exit" choice under the "menu" soft key, but that key is not active with PSTouch.
I see the same issue with Google Chrome. The menu key is active with this app, but it does not have an "exit" choice.
With both these apps, I have to go to the "Active Apps" tab of the Task Manager to release memory.
There is one difference with PS Touch. Google Chrome always starts the same way whether or not I release it's memory. With PS Touch, if I release memory after closing with the back key, the next time I start it I get an initial royal blue screen with the PS Touch icon in the middle followed by a second screen with a menu in the middle titled "New Project From". If I exit at that point, it takes two presses of the back key to first close the menu and then exit the program and return to a home screen. If I do not release memory, the next time I start PS Touch, it goes directly to the second screen, but without the "New Project From" menu.
I hope this gives you the information you need.

  • Messages app quits when closing window

    I have an iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.8.2), Messages Version 7.0.1 (3314).
I already tested Messages before, but decided to uninstall it as it was too buggy. Since upgraded to Mountain Lion, whenever I close the Messages window, it quits the application too making me go offline on all of my accounts (gtalk, yahoo, bonjour...).
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • My MacBook screen will not turn off when closed.

I replaced the screen on my 13.3 MacBook, but now when I close the it, the screen does not enter sleep mode like it is supposed to (the Apple logo is still lit, and light can be seen inside the laptop. Also when it is closed, and music is playing- the music does not stop.) I have not called Apple yet (because it is Xmas Eve) but I will as soon as possible. I did a PRAM zap, and tried going through the system preferences. Any help would be great, thank you.

There is supposed to be a small magnet in the lid that triggers the sleep switch when the lid comes down. It sounds like it wasn't installed as part of the screen swap. You can confirm this using a fridge magnet. Place the magnet on the edge of the palm rest just above the Kensinton security slot and it should trigger a sleep response. If it does, that confirms the magnet is missing from the lid.

  • Labview executable does not exit memory when closed

Hello everyone. I have been tasked with upgrading some of our vis from labview 6.0 to 8.5.1 . I was able to create new executables and run the vis just fine in 8.5. However, when I close the vis in question, the window dissapears just fine, but the process remains in memory causing me to have to go to the task manager and manually kill the process. Does anyone know what generally might cause this sort of problem to occur? This did not happen when the program was in version 6.0. Thank you for your help.

I went ahead and added an event handler "application instance close" and I added the quit labview module connected to a boolean constant of true. It's weird because the .vi running closes, but the executable remains in my task bar.
In other words, when I execute my .exe, I have ________.exe and _______.vi running. When I hit the red 'x' for my .vi, it closes but not the .exe. When I call file>quit in the .vi, they both close.
Edit: To be clearer, adding the above did not close the .exe portion when I hit the x out button in my .vi window.

  • Download error "source file could not be read" when closing tab.

So it seems like when I start a download by clicking a link on a website and I close that tab before the download finishes I get a download error and the file stops downloading.
I first noticed this on some site and thought it was a problem with the site, but then it happened again when I went to download the Flash update.
[http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/3015/screenshot20110605at235.png Screenshot of the error message]
When I run Firefox with add-ons disabled (thanks for the handy menu item) the problem does not occur.

Whats the problem with this thing?
One thing i can tell is that i changed some settings in Micromedia Flash, because i learned that they where spying on US, then boom no more download. It stops and tell me it could not be read from the server. Dont remember if it started right after i changed the settings, but its driving me nuts
