Nothing but beachball
I'm running an iBook 1.33Ghz/1.5Gb RAM/10.5.2.
I cloned my installation of Tiger to an external and did an erase and install of Leopard earlier this week and applied all patches and updates. The system worked fine for a few days, but last night I started getting a lot of beachballs. I was working on an assignment and every half an hour or so, the entire system would stall and I'd be able to move my cursor, but I wouldn't be able to do anything else. Force-quit didn't work on anything. The system would resume about five minutes later, but would then stall again. Every time the stall happened, the hard drive would be making sounds like it was seeking: whirr...whirr...whirr...whirr...whirrrrrrrrrrrr and then repeat.
I shut the system down hoping it would settle over night, but booting up this morning, I get to the grey logo screen with indicator and would get the whirring sequence again. I left for staff training and when I got back four hours later, it had finally managed to get to the login screen, but I still had a beachball and everything was stalled again.
I booted from my Tiger clone, ran verify and repair disk, which came up with no errors. I can still access the contents of my iBook's drive when I'm booted from the clone. I've uninstalled all of the Unsanity stuff I had before, so I don't think that's it. I had installed a 1Gb stick of RAM from OWC prior to installing Leopard, but it ran fine with Tiger.
Any clues?
OK, so the hard drive noise is more or less normal when booted from the Tiger clone, but has a lot of weird whirs and noise when booted from Leopard? That is very odd! I almost wonder if your Leopard OS has somehow gotten corrupted? You wouldn't expect that so soon after an erase and install, but I suppose it is possible.
Also, I assume the hard drive has adequate free space--like 15%-20%?
Somehow I seem to remember reading about weird hard drive noises with Leopard in some particular situation, but for the life of me, I can't remember just what. But I think it was caused by some sort of software situation. Can you think back to any software installation which might have preceded all the freezing and hanging?
Are you running Time Machine? If so, I wonder if you could reinstall the OS and restore from a previous version that would be before all these problems started?
Unfortunately, I'm not really a software expert. I responded because I thought running the wrong version of Disk Utility might have been part of the problem. Or that maybe the hard drive was. But it sounds like the hard drive is OK based on it working properly with the Tiger clone.
Just saw your latest post in my email. Running the wrong version of DW might be like running the wrong version of Disk Utility. I think these all need to be matched and compatible with the OS. The earlier version of DW will probably repair the directory, but not as it needs to be repaired for Leopard. I believe each version of the OS has its own unique directory, which must be repaired with the proper version of the repair utility. It sounds like if you want to use DW , you will have to use version 4 with Leopard. Same deal with Tech Tool Pro or Tech Tool Deluxe--you need to run the Leopard compatible version.
Don't really know just what to suggest next. It almost seems like there is some sort of incompatibility issue somewhere. You might look at crash reporter to see if there are any clues as to what is causing the problem. (Finder>Home Folder>Library>Logs>Crash Reporter). If there is some particular program showing up a lot, you could try checking it for compatibility with Leopard and maybe reinstalling it. There could also be a .plist that needs to be trashed, but I know nothing about these, and it would best if someone else advised you about these.

Check that the Bookmarks Toolbar is visible and that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is still placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar.

SSRS Export to text and NOTHING BUT TEXT!
Is it possible to export a report to text only format? When I export my report to csv and then use the old DOS command to "type" the exported csv file there is a horrible little character at the beginning of the file.
I need to export just as text and nothing but text to drop the exported report into a 3rd party service which processes it. This squiggly little character is tripping the 3rd party system. I cant believe something so simple is not supported natively by SSRS?
I'm using SQL Server 2008 R2.

Software update, nothing but headaches.....
About two weeks ago, I woke up to a message on my phone that said a software update had been downloaded and the phone needed to restart to install. I wish I'd known then what a headache this was going to cause me.
A few days later I noticed that my phone wasn't ringing, my notification sounds weren't playing, and my alarm was going off on the screen but no sound. I always use my phone as my alarm clock, but can't trust it now. I turned my phone off and back on and the problem resolved. It has done it 5 or 6 more times since then. I'm on call for my job every three weeks, and I couldn't trust that my phone was going to ring this past week. Very frustrating.
I've also had an increase in problems making calls and typing text messages. When I try to make a call it acts like it is connecting but I don't hear the phone ring or anything. My husband said it is connecting, and he can hear me, but I can't hear anything. When typing text messages, it will freeze up and I have to exit the message and go back in before it will let me type.
I'm loathe to do a factory reset because of the amount of time it takes to get the phone back to the way I like it. Is this going to be my only option? When I first got my Droid 2, it was replaced twice in the first three months because I had nothing but problems. The 2nd time was a refurbished Droid 2 Global and it has been an OK phone. I've spent so much time dealing with technical issues though that I'm about ready to send Verizon a bill for my time.
I'm not able to upgrade until August, but I can assure you I will never buy another Motorola phone.
Is anyone else having the same problems since the update? Any solutions to the problems I'm having?Have you tried booting in Safe Mode and see if the device works as needed? Try follow these steps and if this doesnt help then I would say its time to try a hared reset because issues do have a habit of showing its evil head after a update because of the update process changes and updates files but doesnt delete any personal settings and the old settings sometimes cause issues..
Try booting in Safe Mode and then consider a Hard Rest.
Enable Safe Mode
Press and hold the Power button.
Select Power off.
Slide the keyboard open.
Press the Power button.
Press and hold the OK key.
Continue to hold the OK key until Safe mode appears in the lower-left of the unlock screen.
This may take up to 30 seconds.
While in Safe Mode, remove the most recently installed applications.
Power cycle the device then attempt to use the device.
If the device works properly, install applications one at a time to identify the application causing the problem. -
I get nothing but error messages, -

Now there are hundreds stacked up on my desktop.
I cannot find the answer anywhere. You need to give answers to how to fix these errors because when I "search" "error code" or the number there is NOTHING. NOTHING! Yet you give us these stupid error codes
then you do not give us ANYTHING on how to fix these. These error codes make me so mad it makes me hate outlook, and hate the developers and hate microsoft. How in the world can you give us ERROR codes without the explanation of what
to do or how to fix it. You need to add each error code number in your "search" then explain what it is and how to fix it. I am not a tech. I am a lawyer. I have googled the entire string of error code and nothing is clear.

I understand how frustrated you are when facing such an issue, maybe I can provide some suggestions on the problem.
Based on the description, you should be using an IMAP account setup in Outlook. As for the error message, usually it's caused by a corrupted message on the Server. I suggest you logon the Webmail site, check if sending/receiving emails works well.
If you find any unusual emails that cannot be read or sent, try deleting them to try again.
I also suggest you create a new profile to setup the IMAP account:

Contact your Email Service Provider to get the correct and latest account settings, since you have been using Outlook for years, some settings may have been changed while you haven't been informed.

While having a perfectly running iTunes and all programs associated, I was notified of the iTunes 10.4 upgrade. After following typical directions, I have had nothing but trouble. First “iTunesHelper was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 5)” occurred. Following directions found at https://discussions.apple.com/message/15087646#15087646, I now get the following “iTunes.exe - System Error The program can't start because AVFoundationCF.dll is still missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”, Along with “iTunesHelper was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. I can't open my iPod library in iTunes, the app doesn't show the device at all, no error message, nothing, but windows 8 opens it like it would a flash drive. It has worked for me before just fine and both have the most updated software versions. HELP PLEASE!

I installed the latest update to my phone. Half way through it asked to connect to itunes. After updateing it had some type of error and wanted me to restore the phone. After restoring, another error box popped up and said that it could not be restored. Now it won't connect to itunes or my computer at all and is nothing but the black start up screen with the apple logo, or it's just a white screen. What happened?
DFU mode? How do I do that? So far the only thing I can do is hold down both buttons to power it on and nothing is on the screen and it wont reconize on my computer....

yeah tried all that. the only thing that i havent tried is to delete itunes completely and restart. its the same with the ipad. i havent done a master reset. i just think it has to be something rather simple as it acknowledges that i have plugged in the ipad as it makes the noise it just come up usb not recognized. it shows up as an unknown device that doestn have any drivers
its driving me round the bend at the minute -
my 5th ten iPod is basically doing nothing but trying over and over again to start up. I've tried to restore it, but when the logo apple appears, it simply shut down. Then I've connected it to my macbook pro, and I've seen the script "Please Wait - Very Low Battery", but, after some time, the iPod tries to start up again, and nothing happens. It's a kind of noise, I'm thinking about the hard disk, (it's a 80Gb version), and I'm listening to it; every 30 seconds seems to try to open and then shut down again. I can't see the iPod in iTunes too. Don't know what to do. Can someone help me? Thanks a lot, it's my first forum
It sounds like the battery could be going bad as well as the iPod's Hard drive. You'll want to have the iPod serviced either by Apple or a third party repair company. Here is Apple's pricing:

I downloaded my sons ipod 5g with the latest iOS and now when we try to sync it says we have no space, but there is nothing but a few apps on his ipod and he has plenty of space. The messege says that most of is space is taken up by video but there is no video or music on his ipod right now. I've tried to reset his ipod but that did not help the problem. What can I do?

Since purchasing the Note 3 in October i have had nothing but issues. I went through all the steps and eventually I was sent a different phone, which was working for the most part until the recent upgrade. Now I am back to the old issues, no service, it actually says not moblie network available, when everyone else in my family has coverage and are on my plan with iphones. I am missing text messages and dropping calls left and right. This is unacceptable for the cost of this phone and my service. I have did a hard reset etc. What else can I do??
Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps. -

I opened my computer and the whole top only shows web search, I can not find my bookmarks and I tried reloading firefox and still nothing but tab bar. Tried f10, alt, nothing! Can I reload an old firefox? There is no firefox logo at top. When I rt click at top I see hide toolbar and leave full screen. To the right there is only a home sign. How can I get my BOOKMARKS ??????? To Reset Firefox do the following:

Updated to Mountian lion 2 mnths ago had nothing but problems,I had no problems with lion, so i had a tech reinstall lion, Now agian I am having problems with the cursor freezing and disappearing in photoshop and not being able to use type in word, safari, mail, photoshop6 ,lightroom4 any suggestions as I don't believe apple is going to doing anything,thy've stuck thier head in the sand and ignored it.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.
