  • When I try to open iTunes on my laptop, I get a message that says "The file "i Tunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." What do I do?

When I try to open iTunes it says that it can't and I have no idea how to fix the problem. I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 3 times and the same thing happens each time. Please help me!!

Unless you've recently attempted to downgrade iTunes this is probably a sign of a corrupt library file. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

I upgraded my 2007 iMac (20") to Maverick. Should never have done this! Lost mail, lost my mail archive, lost numerous programs/applications, lost all my installed hardware, spend 4 days on getting it running again with the (supreme) help of Apple Care. However it should not have happened at all!
iMac Computers with less than 4Gb of internal memory (as explained by Apple Care), or less than (estimated) 150Gb of free disc-space should not upgrade! Simple as that and the App Store should warn you about that and not simply let you pick up your free copy of Maverick!

  • When I try to open iTunes I get an error message

I cannot open iTunes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and nothing has helped yet. I get the following error message when I try to open iTunes:
Windows cannot find ‘C:\Program Files(x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe’. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. I am using Windows 7 64-bit. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

It was malware. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\itunes.exe.
Ack ... yeah, basically it's targeting the Registry key that tells Windows what to do when you click on iTunes desktop icons.
Glad things are working better, bryant, but given that the last Malwarebytes scan I saw for this characterised the infection as a (Security.Hijack), it might be prudent to check to see if there's any unexplained charges showing up on your iTunes account or any other charges on any credit card you have listed for an iTunes Store account. (I don't know whether or not this one is able to successfully grab any info, but there's no harm in being wry.)

  • HT1925 I get a message saying The feature I am trying to use is on a network resource that is unavalable when I try to open iTunes.

When I try to open iTunes a widow appears called Windows Installer.  It tells me that the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavalable.  It tell me to Click OK or try again or enter an alternative path to a folder containing the intallation package iTunes.msi.  I suggests I should find this in a drop down box in the window.  There is a box but no folder iTunes.msi.  If I click the cancel button iTunes will open and work. I wish to uninstall iTunes and then reinstall it.  I am finding that I can play music on iTunes OK through my sound card but if I try to play streamed music from the web in YouTube and fom My Space the music is a poor quality with crackles and distortion. Other forums suggest uninstalling iTunes and then re-installing it.  I ahve tried to uninstall iTunes but it comes up with the Window noted above and then stops.  I need to stop the crackle when streaming music. Please help.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
