Nothing is going from my external hardrive into my trash (run on a network)

We use one external hardrive between four of us in our studio, run on a network. I am trying to delete stuff from the hardrive, but anything I put in the trash is not appearing there. Some of the time it says its because the file is in use - which it is not, and other times the file seems to be dropped in the trash no problem (and I get the deletion warning box), but when I go to empty, nothing is there. I've restarted my machine twice, and some of the files have appeared back to where they originally were, and others have disappeared, and aren't being found in spotlight.
Items from my desktop are going in fine, but I can't really transfer stuff from hardrive to desktop to trash, mainly because I finish in half an hour and take my laptop with me, and it will still be transferring by then!

Did you put the library on the external drive, or just the media folder. See this migrate iTunes library post for the way this ought to be done and recovery tips for when it is no longer possible.

I have tried consolidate library, edit/prefereces/change, copied my music in itunes folder BUT nothing works. iTunes just will NOT pick up/recognize my music. Consolidate takes what is in the iTunes library (what you see when you open iTunes) & copies it into the iTunes music folder as shown in iTunes prefs - > Advanced.
If you cannot see the songs when you open iTunes, you need to File -> Add folder to library and select the folder with your music.

Syncing from an external hardrive?

I want to get an 80G Ipod Classic, but my laptop's hardrive is only 60G. I was wondering, if I got an external hardrive, put all my music and movies on that, could I still sync it all without having to put it on my laptop's hardrive?

I have an external hard drive and my music files are already on it, leaving my itunes library empty. I haven't used it in a while, but I used to have it set up where Itunes pulled the music from the external HD and was available in the library. Now I am unable to have that happen. Again, my files are already moved and I would like itunes to link them together in my library, if possible. I have version 7.2 Itunes. Is this no longer an option? I have looked over other posts and followed the steps to move the location of the folder and then consolidate and that does nothing for me.

Windows's Restoration wizard is no longer recognising the WindowsImageBackup, when moved from one external HD into another one.

I created WindowsImageBackup a three-month period ago and saved it on an external hard disk. Then, I have moved/cut this WindowsImageBackup from the external hard disk was first saved on while created into a subfolder
on another different external hard disk. Whenever now clicked 'advanced recovery methods', then chose use ' a system image'. However, when I booted into Windows environment, I didn't see that the external drive containing image wasn't listed, although I have
clicked on 'refresh' while external drive is plugged. When clicked on the 'advance' button, then click 'located driver if the drive isn't listed' link, I could naviaged into the external hard disk, which means it is recognised by Windows and it doesn't need
a driver.
NOTE: the image is for the same OS installed on my computer.
I really want to keep many full different Windows Image Backups, then when create Windows Image Backup, I moved it into subfolder in order the next new don't delete the older one.

NOTE: system image Disc containing(old images, WindowsImageBackup1,2,3, and so on) wasn't listed/found, and not the Restoration failed
Let me give you this scenario:
I have created a Windows image backup for OS partition(C) and Data partition(D). Second: I have saved the created image into an external hard disk
Third: When the WindowImageBackup created in the external hard disk. I tried booting into Windows environment, and the wizard found the image automatically.
Froth: I have moved the 'WidnowsImageBackup' from a partition on an external hard disk (A) into another external hard disk(B)
Fifth: I have done some changes on the OS system(such as installing programs and so on) and data partition(such as adding data and so on)
Fifty: I have decided to create a new WindowsImageBackup and save it into external disk 'B', but before that I have done, I must rename 'WidnowsImageBackup by incrementing '1' after 'WidnowsImageBackup' in order ton not be overwritten.
Sixth: I created the new 'WindowsImageBackup'
The WindowsImageBackup just created is recognised by Windows's resoration wizard because it wasn't moved. However, windowsImageBAckup1 isn't recognised because it wasn't saved here, however, it was pasted here from another location.
I would like to save many full images:
WindowsImagBackup
windowsImageBackup1
-------------------------2
-------------------------3
and so on.
However, as I said before, when booting into Windows's restoration wizard, then clicked on 'selcte an image', I didn't find any option to search for the image.
Yes, there is an option saying 'if you don't see your 'system image disc' listed in the image location, then you can pluge your disc and click on refresh. I have done but only the 'WindowsImagBackup' created on the same external disc was
found. Even those images created in same external disc, but their main folder 'WindowsImageBackup' changed into 'WindowsImageBackup1, 2, 3 and so one were not found'
If someone wants to save many full WindowsImageBackups, then how can he be doing?
NOTE: Although I have read in the Windows help support what is below, I when I have copied the older system images into another locations, they became unrecognised/found in the restoration Wizard:

Copying itunes files from an external HD into my itunes library

I've tried 2 methods - drag and drop from the HD directly into the library; and 'add to library' from itunes, then selecting the albums from the external HD. Either way, the process is resulting in 2 copies of each song being added to my library. The only way I can bring in only 1 copy of a song is to actually open the album, then highlight the individual songs. Much more time consuming! I can't figure out why highlighting the songs is different from simply highlighting the albums. thanks for any advice or guidance!

Do you have any exported playlists / library (XML) files on your external HD? If there are, while you're trying to add files, iTunes might be adding those playlists and because of that there could be 2 of the same songs showing at the same time. (I think you cannot add .xml files directly by drag&dropping anyway)
If I'm correct, then identify the file types of those playlists (."something") then do a search for those, and delete all of the ".playlist" files. Then add all of your songs to your Library, it should be fine.

Mac OS X can read Windows-formatted iPods and drives. This means there are many ways to migrate your information from your old Windows-based PC to your new Mac.
Mac OS X: To be sure external drives appear on your desktop, choose Preferences from the Finder menu. Be sure the options for "External disks" and "Hard disks" are enabled.

Problem Booting from an External Hardrive

Hi All,
I have a problem trying to boot from an external firewire hardrive. I have a iBook G4 running 10.4.8. and I'm trying to boot from an external firewire hardrive running 10.3.9. It will not boot. I get a grey screen with the international "No" sign (the circle with a diagonal line through it). But yet, I can take that same external firewire hardrive and hook it up to my iMac G4 running 10.4.8., and it boots up with no problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Here's an update. I think I figured it out. In the "get info" box of the external HDD, there is a checkbox at the bottom that reads, "Ignore ownership on this volume" and it was checked. So, I unchecked it, and rebooted, and now it boots up correctly. I'm not exactly sure what that checkbox means, but it's working now. Thanks to everyone for your input.

Stream music from an external hardrive to my Apple TV?

Hey guys,
I've just bought Apple TV and I want to know if it's possible to stream music that I haven an external hardrive through iTunes without having to copy the files onto the internal drive of my MacBook pro . My idea is to have all my media on an external 1T hardrive and stream everything through Apple TV using homeshare therefore freeing up all the internal space.
Also if this is possible, how can I do it?

Yes doing that puts all your content on the external drive.
You can put content onto more than one drive. You can do it in a few ways.
You can put certain content on one drive and other content on another, but this requires managing manually and can be a bit of a pain.
You can also just start using a second drive when the first drive gets about 90% full (never fill a drive).
Or you can use disk utility to RAID a couple of drives as a single volume.

Edit an image going from LR 5.3 into Photoshop CC

Can somebody help me with this problem?
Since today I'm having an issue when I try to edit a image in Photoshop (as a PSD) that's imported in LR (as a RAW-image).
So I use LR as my main working app for my images and from time to time I edit the photo from withing LR into Photoshop.
When I perform this operation all of my images (that I edit in Photoshop) have an overexposed area on the right side (1-2 cm). I never have had this issue before.
My images and catalog reside on a Lacie 1TB external disk.
My memory settings of Photoshop are not too heavy. Photoshop may use 70% of the memory. My iMac has 16Gb of RAM.
Does anyone have a solution for me?

Much easier to do a "repair" install, just install again over the top of itself. To do this, in the Creative Cloud desktop app, go to the Apps tab. In the lower half, labeled Find New Apps, there is a filter drop-down to the right. By default it says All Apps or Filters & Versions, click it and choose Previous Version. Find Photoshop on the list and the button will say “Install” but it will also be a drop-down menu. Choose CC 2014 (15.0). This will do a “repair” install over the top of your existing files.

Copying and pasting is not usually a good idea. Try using the "place" command to place your external files or documents into InDesign. Nevertheless, you should be able to copy text from Word or other programs with no problem. How are you doing it exactly? Try to do it not only with keyboard shortcuts, but using the actual "copy" and "paste" menus on both programs.
