Nothing is responding on my imac

I cannot open anything on my imac this happened suddenly ,the mouse moves but mail, finder , safari etc etc will not respond ?

Restart the computer. If this doesn't fix the problem, then reinstall Snow Leopard:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
Do the following:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

Some online resellers still have Snow Leopard in stock, but their prices are ridiculously high (Amazon.com is one). So your best bet is to call Apple; they will sell it for about $20 US as long as they still have stock.

Restart your MBP holding the trackpad down and hopefully the disk will be ejected.  Then try to return it and get a refund or put it in the trash.  There is nothing that software does for your MBP that you cannot do yourself or with free software.
If can get your MBP started, delete all traces of the offending software.  Worst case is that you may have to erase the HDD and reload the OS and your user data.  I trust that you have a backup (minus MacTuneUp).
Courcoul has given you his opinion in a very succinct manner, and as you might surmise, I agree with him.
    Ciao.

I am assuming your mouse works for all other applications. If not it sounds more like a Dell issue.

  • 2 days of ****...Ipod 20GB not responding to my Imac G5 or Ibook G4

Ok..so I have spent maybe 30 hours now trying to solve this problem. The dreaded Ipod Updater has basically put my 2nd Gen 20gb into the following a)disk mode-do not disconnect b)disk mode-ok to disconnect or c)apple logo then the exclamation and folder.
Can't restore, and is not recognized on either of my mac's either in itunes or as a hard drive on my desktop (by going into disk utility etc....)
I have tried it all...don't want to have to reinstall both my Ibook and Imac..and APPLE have not mentioned one **** thing about this problem and continue to have the Jan 10 ipod updater available!!
This ipod is luckily still under warranty with the store I purchased at. However if I send in what do they plan on doing with it?? Do I get a refurbished (great more problems), a new one (don't sell) or something comparable (I paid $579.99 canadian for this back in 2004).
Any help...greatly appreciated..read all forums on this and still nothing has worked.

  • Can not get the mouse to respond on new imac

Can not get the mouse to respond on new imac

The very first time you turn on a brand new iMac you should see an animated picture on the display of the mouse's power button, followed by the trackpad's power button, which repeats until you switch on one or the other. If you're not seeing that then call AppleCare and explain what's going on: 1-800-SOS-APPL in the US.
Be patient since you will first get the automated voice-recognizing assistant (it's acutally pretty good) they you will be on hold for what seems to be an eternity, then a humanoid is going to ask your name, phone number etc. then they're going to tell you to plug in the iMac as if you're a dope.
Eventually they'll realize you really know what you're doing and help you actually fix it.
You should not have to be inconvenienced with a USB mouse although that would be the quickest way to solve this problem.

  • HT1414 ipad's screen is blank except for apple lcon, nothing else responds ?

This is copied form the article that you were reading when you posted this question to the forum. Did you try using Recovery Mode to restore the iOS software?
    Additional Information
If your device is continually restarting, not responding, or showing the Apple logo with no progress bar or a stopped progress bar, place the device into recovery mode and try restoring again.

  • Premiere & AE CC will not launch/respond on new iMac

I bought a brand new iMac last week in order to complete a video project.
I'm running OS 10.9, and installed the Premiere Pro and After Effects CC Trials yesterday.
NEITHER program will complete launch with the "Admin User" account I imported from my old Mac, but they WILL launch and work fine from a NEW "Admin User" account I created as a test.
I ran the Adobe CLEANER, did uninstalls and re-installs of BOTH programs and the Adobe CC Desktop. No luck.
    This is what happens:
Premiere spends a couple minutes trying to launch...and then fails.  The launch graphic sits there for a couple minutes, then seems like it might be making progress.  "Loading ExporterQuickTimeHost.bundle"hits the progress screen, and after 30 seconds of that "Adobe Premiere Pro CC quit unexpectedly."
After Effects gives an error immediately upon launch
"After Effects warning: Could not rename the file '/Users/drleek/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/12.1/Workspaces.2147.1407351242514081.xml' to 'Workspaces.xml'."
    with an additional error
"After Effects can’t continue: unexpected failure during application startup"
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Hey blankenship and cmiller815,
Not sure if you ever got the problem fixed, but I was having the same issue you described and was able to find a solution.  I tried all the troubleshooting steps outlined in this discussion; deleting prefs, uninstall, re-install, etc.  and found that the answer was to go to the folder in the prefs /Users/username/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/12.1/Workspaces.2147.1407351242514081.xml'  and to set the permissions to allow read and write for all users on the machine on the main 12.1 folder.  I should add that I also ran a permissions repair using disk utility thinking that it would resolve my issue but it didn't.  It seems that for some reason the permissions got messed up after doing my data migration with migration assistant to my new iMac.
I was prompted to try this from because of this thread http://forums.adobe.com/message/5863018#5863018
I hope this helps and that you figure out your issue.

  • HT3964 I have a white screen, nothing happens, I have a iMac. What can I do?

iMac doesn´t do anything. only the white screen , when I put it on. what can i do?

Repair/verify doesn't fix anything when you use Disk Utilities from your installer dvds or lion recovery partition?
Did you remove all additional firewire and usb peripherals?
A smc and pram reset has no effect?
Booting in safe mode doesn't work?
    Try running Apple Hardware Test.

  • IMac doesn't respond

I have had trouble the past few weeks getting a response from my iMac. I am running Mac OS X version 10.4.11. Twice, I returned to the screen after being away and the mouse and keyboard were unresponsive. I finally pressed the on/off switch in back - and the computer finally went through all the keyboard/mouse keystrokes I went through on the screen before finally turning off. When I turned the computer back on, it was fine.
This morning I returned to my computer after is was in sleep mode. The mouse and keyboard were unresponsive. Even the on/off switch did nothing. I thought my iMac had died. I finally tried unplugging and plugging the computer back in - when I turned it back on, everything was fine.
BYW - I am using a logitech wave keyboard and matching mouse.
Should I take my iMac into the shop for repair work?
    Thanks
    Scott T.

    Hello tull:
By all means take the computer to the Apple store. The warranty is good for one year (three if you bought Applecare extended warranty).
When you get a chance, update your profile with both hardware and software information (the latest release of OS X is 10.5.2).

  • I downloaded Mountain Lion a few weeks ago and ever since, as I'm reading e-mail or anything actually, the screen shifts, like a nervous tick, and during that few seconds it's frozen.  Nothing responds. Can this be corrected?

I downloaded Mountain Lion a few weeks ago.  Almost immediately I noticed that there was an issue.  Every few minutes the screen or page I have open, e-mail, Facebook etc. will start to "jiggle" side to side.  Like a nervous tick. During the few seconds it's doing that nothing else responds, it freezes my mouse etc.  I guess I was hoping it would go away!  Everything else is working just fine, and it never did this until I updated to Mountain Lion.  Can this be fixed?

It is probably some incompatible 3rd party software.
I wrote a little diagnostic program to help show what might be causing these problems. Download EtreCheck from http://www.etresoft.com/download/EtreCheck.zip, run it, and paste the results here.
Disclaimer: Although EtreCheck is free, there are other links on my site that could give me some form of compensation, financial or otherwise.

  • M7649 (17" Monitor) with my Intel iMac

I have an old studio display (model M7649) and I just bought a 21" referb iMac. I used the display with my 15" MBP before th video card died on it (it was from July of '07). The display simply will not respond to my iMac. Is it compatible? Here are my iMac's specs:
Processor  2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b)
The only thing I can think of that is different is this computer has the thunderbolt display port... Does that matter?

I have all the right adapters from the monitor (The monsterous ADC thing). I bought a mini display port to DVI to hook it up with and I think that's the right connector. Here are all the specs I found concerning video (I think)

I have tried detecting diplay (I had to do that with my MBP too) and it still doesn't pick it up.I can't chagne the bit rate from the display options nor does it give me the options to gather all windows. Hmm... I tried using another mini display port to DVI to make sure and the same thing... nothing. Is there a new cable for Thunderbolt? It looks the same and the mini display port fits inside the Thunderbolt plug

  • New i3, 21.5 iMac hanging up can't reset

New i3, 21.5 iMac turns on then freezes up. Tried reset smc to no avail. Can move mouse pointer around desktop but nothing will respond. Something appears to be hanging up in the trash ben. Was transferring pictures from my external hd into iPhoto while iPod was connected when this happened.

Call AppleCare, the phone number is in your manual. You have 90 days of free telephone support and if you purchase AppleCare (highly recommended) it will extend your warranty from 1 year to 3 years and also extend the phone support.

  • 2007 iMac Blurred Screen of Death

Hi, I'm running an intel based iMac with 4GB of ram, and am running OS X 10.10.1. I have recently encountered a rather large problem. I have been attempting to boot, however nothing will respond. I have reset the NVRAM and the PRAM, and it will no longer recognize that there is a keyboard connected. I have attempted to boot into the Recovery HD, however it will not budge. I have also tried to open the diagnostics tool, and that will not work. Please help. I have also reinstalled the RAM.
    Thanks.
