Nothing is working on the Powerbook G4 - tried install disks

Okay, so I am not really computer savy. I used my computer yesterday, shut it down etc. Today I try to start it up, and I get the blue screen with the flashing envelope with a question mark and the classic mac symbol. Of course tech support is long gone. So I read the booklet and try to run the install disk. When trying to run Disk Utilities, there aren't any drives, hdd in the left column, only thing visible is the actualy cd that is in the system, nothing else (no hardrrive nothing, so scarey)... So then I go back to installation, I can get through the steps up until it asks where to install, the screen comes up but there are no options to click, no where to install the new version, etc. Is my MAC dead???? There appears to be no HDD no nothing.. The book stated to run a hardware test just in case, I did that and the system stated that all hardware was okay. What is going on? What happened to my harddrive? MY software? The techs (before i found the installation disks,) had me to try, the option, mac, p and r keys, booting with apple and s... all sorts of stuff and even with the cds the computer is not running... please help, thanks

Use your hardware test CD - it came with the computer when you bought it. Use the extended test setting. You may have a hardware problem - such as a failed hard drive and this disc will run a series of tests on hard drive, screen, memory, motherboard etc. Let us know what the results are.

    thank you for your help

That is the highest you will be able to go with 3g. You need 3gs or 4 to go any higher (multi processors and more memory needed).  Version 4.2.1 marks the end of your updates for that device.

  • Calendar Issues - "Repitition is not working for the item you tried to access"

I ran into an interesting error when troubleshooting a calendar issue today, wondering if anyone has seen it.
    Exchange 2010 SP2 latest RU, Outlook 2010
User changes then start time for a recurring meeting, changes in everybody's calendar but hers 9still shows in her calednar as the original start time)
Logged into OWA to see if her claendar reflected the correct start time there - no, still  shows the old start time.  So I open the meeting, have a quick look, and the following error pops up:
"Repitition is not working for the item you tried to access.  It's possible either the start or end date are not correct"
Has anyone seen this error in OWA before?

    Hi,
Please double check whether the updated start time and end time are changed properly in attendees’ calendar. Also confirm whether the updating message is in the organizer’s sent items both in OWA and Outlook.

  • How can I create a start up disk for a old intel core duo running 10.5.8.. Computer works fine, but can't find install disk.

How can I create a start up disk for a old intel core duo running 10.5.8.. Computer works fine, but can't find install disk. Want to use internal disk drive or USD flash drive.

Try calling 1-800-676-2775.  Give the serial number and thy *may* still burn you new install disks designed just for the hrdware in your system (for a fee, something like $160 per disk).  *May* is only because they may not burn disks for Leopard anymore.
If they do not burn them for you, you can buy Leopard disks off Amazon or eBay for about $200.
Have you considered Snow Leopard?.  Those disks only cost $19 (single user) or $29 (5-user license) through Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE.

  • HT201263 Nothing has worked... i have tried recovery mode, higher volt chargers, nothing seems to turn it on and it doesnt get recognized by itunes

    I really need help

If you have tried a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, and that does not work either, the best option is the Apple store genius bar to have it checked out.

  • Powerbook / OS X install disk will not find Hard drive

So here's the story. I bought a 12" powerbook from a friend. It's old but i liked the machine. So we booted it up at his place and it worked. I took it home and then it wouldn't find the hard drive. I used an OS X install DVD but it couldn't find the HDD for it's life. So I thought it was a bad drive, i called it in for an RMA and used a old 30gb hard drive from an old Pismo i had laying around. it worked fine and a week later I got the RMA drive from WD. I put the new drive in the laptop, fired up OS X install, but the disk utility couldn't fine the HDD!!! So I said whatever, i put the old 30gb drive in but the machine couldn't find that one either!
Since then I've tried to secure all connections, reset P-ram, NV-ram, did a reset all in Open Firmware, removed the extra memory, but nothing is working...
Does anyone have any other idea's before i ask my friend for the money back?
    Thanks, Tim

Try using Disk Utility to repair your startup disk (hard drive) as shown in Dr.Smokes Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption. See if the drive shows up there.
Let us know what errors it reports and if DU was able to repair them.
    Cheers!

  • Mouse not working when reinstalling OS X with install disk

I am trying to reinstall OS X 10.3 on iMAC G5 after a hard drive crash with the help of the original install disks, but my wireless mouse does not work anymore. Any ideas how I can solve this or go through the installation process with the keyboard alone? I couldn't find a keyboard shortcut to tab from a list in a window to the select button...

How is your mouse not working? Is it dead?
Is the wireless mouse a Mighty Mouse or a 3rd party mouse?
    Does you mouse need batteries?
    *Just in case it's dirty:*
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302417 How to clean your Mighty Mouse
Take a piece of bright white paper, turn the mouse upside down on it, press down on the ball, and run the mouse quickly in circles over the paper. This will remove all the gunk that's building up on the ball
TIP: To get to the gook inside the scroll nipple use a plastic toothpick.
"Other Options:" Wear latex disposable gloves. A box of same can be purchased from your local Dollar Store or Pharmacy.
Some cell phone leather cases actually fit right over the Mighty Mouse.
Clean/wipe the Mighty Mouse off with a damp cloth/rag prior to going to bed each evening.
Some users have found using the small alcohol pads quite successful. These can be obtained from any drug/pharmacy or Dollar Store.
Only do the following if your warranty has run out:
Cleaning inside and dismantling the Apple Mighty Mouse
If so, then I suggest (if your 1 year warranty is not up and/or you have Apple Care Protecton Plan) you call Apple Tech Support & ask for a replacement.

  • PPC G4 Tower dual 1.25 GHz:  Where to find the 9.22 OS install disks

There are some old discussions of this, but by starting a new thread perhaps a solution will be obtained.   I acquired two PPC G4 dual 1.25 GHz towers.   They do not NOT have FW800.  They have only FW400, thus OS 9.22 should install and work.  Do not want 9.22 working under OS X.  Just need pure 9.22.
Been working for about a month to apply 9.22 to these machines.  I've obtained 9.22 install disks from eight sources, such as FTP, Internet purchase, web download links, friends, local stores, etc.  Only two of the disks are acknowledged as bootable, and they do boot the machine to completion.  But upon starting the installation, proclaim that the install disk cannot be used with the machine.   What's the secret to installation ?
Does one install the OS 9.22 software on another G4, such as a DP or SP 800 mHz and transfer the drive to the 1.25DPs ?
    Thank you.

Several of those which had and could dual boot OS X and OS 9.2, required OS X to be installed and present, first and before OS 9 could be used as a secondary boot system. The firmware versions played a large role in this and likely there also were in-chip changes beyond firmware flashing on their logicboards.
I spent some time several years ago trying to discover the problem someone out-of-country had in attempting to restore funcational OS 9.2 booting to a DP PowerMac of this vintage, and the answer came back to the actual need to have OS X (in system software package, part of the computer's included kit) installed first. And if the correct drivers were not loaded at the time, the later OS 9 system in the software kit, would not work. And the OS 9.2 could not be installed by itself.
And the detailed facts of the matter were a hard-sell to those persons afar who did not choose to believe them. Finally they posted their question in these Discussions when their computers were fairly new. And I replied to the same questions in the forum. There was controversy even then as not all believed the facts.
All that, yet you could put an OS 9.2.2 into one of these fringe machines if you did not use their install method. Even a 'classic 9' from an iBook G4 (mid-2005) 12" 1.33GHz software packet can be used to boot up an original OS9-only boot computer of an older vintage. The software would have to be extracted in OS X with a utility such as Pacifist, and the files modified very little, put on a USB drive, and dragged in. However some of the correct files for certain graphic cards or other items would be lacking unless you happened to have one of the last retail OS 9.2.2 full install discs that were not limited to specific versions of hardware. And even just these discs won't work on the PowerMac that requires OS X installed first, because OS X controls the installation. If you get past the need for the 'installer' then the actual system will work; or after the OSX prepared the original setup, it could be removed.
To think I had one & gave it away with a vintage powermac
and extras, to someone who had no clue why it was there.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • HT3910 What if you no longer have the Mac OS X Install disk?

I'm reading article HT3910 regarding erasing and installing Snow Leopard, but I don't have the disc. Are there any other viable options for restoring the Macbook to original settings?

No there isn't, you need the disk to wipe the machine good.
Apple menu > about this Mac > more info for a model like MacBook Pro 3,1.
Download MacTracker and punch that in, find out the original OS X version that came on the machine.
If < 10.6.3, then call Apple via phone for the 10.6.3 white retail disks
If > 10.6.2 then call Apple via phone for the 10.6.3+ machine specific versions of the OS X install disks.

  • My iPod touch 4th gen iOS5.1.1 can't be recognised by my computer and I have tried different cables and usb ports but nothing has worked. The iPod is brand new and was only opened today. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I have just today recieved a brand new iPod Touch 4th generation iPod with the latest update. Everything else on the ipod is working and my computer is able to read the camera fine, but iTunes cannot recognise it - even after restarting and trying different USB ports and cables.  There is nothing at all coming up on the device list and iTunes is working as it would if I had no iPod plugged in. This is my first iPod on this computer and I have already tried redownloading iTunes. My computer is a windows XP computer. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this problem?

Since this is an XP machine, which version of iTunes do you have installed?  Is it the latest version?
Have you tried starting iTunes, attach the USB end of the cable, then while holding the home button on the iPod connect the 30-pin connector end of the cable to the iPod...that is the recovery mode but also should make iTunes see the iPod.
If that doesn't work you may need to take the iPod back and have it tested by the genius bar techs to make sure the connector is not bad.

One day the phone just got stuck on ios6 screen then once unlocked it said plug into iTunes. Once I did the phone will not allow me to complete a restore. At the last stages the phone will cut off. I have asked a friend to have a look and he thinks it is stuck in recovery mode loop? I don't know what else to do. The phone is not under warranty and I bought it second hand before Christmas. Please give me any help or advice.

Sounds like a hardware failure. Make an appointment at the genius bar of your local Apple Store. There is no magic that can fix a hardware failure.
