Nothing on laptop is "responding"

Yesterday my toshiba laptop randomly became very slow and everything I tried doing it would say "not responding" and I wouldn't be able to use my mouse for a few minutes. My laptop keeps turning off and then not being able to turn back on unless I take out & put back in the battery. The lights will be on but the screen is black and the power button won't do anything. Help?!

Hi It sounds like you have been infected to me. You are describing the affects of a infected computer. The Toshiba forum suggests a back to factory restore. We do not make suggestions or offer help to clear computers of malware or viruses. You can Google Malwarebytes and run a scan with it. It is freeware. If you get lucky, that could help you. The forum recommends a back to factory restore for a infected PC. What are you running for virus protection? Just curious.
 Dokie!

  • When bios loading laptop stop responding

    Hi!
my proble is that the laptop doesn't work
I changed the boot device order in bios, and after i've saved it, computer bios loading fail. I can't do anything. Pressing F2 or F12 does nothing. computer say: "opening bios.." and that's all.
    Can I RESET setting somehow?
    (it's a satellite P300)

disconnect your ac and remove the battery -- after that hold down the power button for 10secs
before you turn on the computer... make sure you disconnect all other usb devices...
connect just the ac adapter and try again to boot to F2(or BIOS) and load it back to default.
let see if that will work...

  • The letters e-o on my keyboard is not working properly. Nothing spilled, Laptop not dropped.  I've cleaned out underneath and everything seems fine. Problem happens intermittently but seems to get worst the longer I have the computer on. Any ideas?

    Macbook pro  OSX  Version 10.9.4
Top row of letters, e-o, are sluggish and not working each time  press them.
I have cleaned underneath them, I did not spill anything or drop the computer - It just started to happen.
    Any ideas????

The behavior of the keyboard not responding after the machine is on and used for a time sounds a lot like swelling under the keyboard…the battery is under the keyboard, processor to the side, and issues with trackpads and keyboards have often ended up being a battery swelling.  Makes it worth while taking the MacBook Pro in sooner rather than later to have it checked.  The techs may ask to keep the machine for a few hours so they can run it long enough to see the behavior if nothing shows immediately on their diagnostics.
When things like this happen, my attitude is on the conservative side…check it out before it can get worse.

  • TS3899 My email (hotmail) is frozen and has been since 20:24hrs on 10/3/13. Nothing on the screen responds

My emails have frozen. Open ended up an email last night and now nothing on the screen will move.

Quit the mail app completely and reboot the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

No did not, should i need to do that ?, thats the weird thing case i cant save at all.... it wont work

    Hi
If you would've read the sticker on the fan of the GPU, you would know that they won't spin (in "auto" mode) until about 60-65C.
Command Center will save settings, but when you restart PC, you have to adjust them again. So if it's CPU OC or fan speeds, then best to change them in BIOS. Also fans in Smart Mode has to be 4 pinned, else they will not change at all. Try using Manual mode.
O I didnt read that :O, but i will use it on manual mode

  • I want personal help, the articles I see do nothing to fix (Not Responding) slowdowns with virtually every click.

It takes about 37 seconds to delete a message. Sometimes the screen goes white, but I can see text in a light yellow shadow. My gmail accounts are quicker but my @SHAW.CA account is very slow - unfortunately it is the first listed (can I move it to the end of my 3-email account list?)
I am very, very frustrated by the slowness (it was not that way before) my computer is new & has an Intel core i7 - other progs run fast and smoothly (big fan of Firefox).

Windows safe mode is what I would select at this point.
    Standard safe mode text follows.
To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:
*Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
*Restart the operating system in '''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode safe mode with Networking]'''. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Windows 8], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-vista Windows Vista], [http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true" Windows XP], [http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564 OSX]
; If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

Hi Christina, belated welcome to Apple Discussions if nobody said it already.
I've had some experiences with these new flash memory recording camcorders, and I'll give you a quick rundown of what I've learned. Many of them (JVC, Panasonic, etc.) tend to record in a .MOD file format, which is non-standard, proprietary, and unrecognizable by most software. I thought Canon was usually a little more standards-compliant, but it appears they also use this .MOD format in your specific camera model. There are likely a couple ways we can get around this though!
In order to play the files, you will likely need to change their file format (.MOD) to .AVI manually. You'll have to locate the files on your Mac, and then manually change the file names so that the file extension (after the period) is .AVI
At that point, a video player application such as http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html>VLC should play the files fine!
You should be able to transfer new video files from the camera to the Macbook Pro with no problems as well. Just plug in the camera to the computer via USB, and also make sure the camera is plugged in to charge. Once it's plugged in, open iMovie (came with the MBP, in the Applications folder) and the MBP should take care of the rest.
Let me know if you have any success with any of this!

  • Open email & top of bar says fire fox not responding & get script error on page asking to stop script or continue. Loading most mail or sites is slow now that I returned from Japan and using same laptop. Any ideas?

my laptop stops responding when I open email right in the middle of writing email or checking email and when I open bookmarks. Up the top it says firefox not responding and a script error block opens asking me to continue or stop script. It give me this same error all the time no matter if I select continue or stop script.

As far as email sites go. The "Adblock Plus" extension with at least the "EasyList US" filter subscription would probably help. I does block a lot of unnecessary Script files whose sole purpose is to provide advertising. You can of course add additional filter subscriptions or filters of your own.
There are many extensions that can cause such problems, and you may have to go through your extensions.
One thing you might do is eliminate Problematic Extensions that you are not using, but mainly check to see how the create problems and you may have to make a choice between extensions. The Unresponsive Script Warning page lists some extensions with problems (thought it listed more) and describes how to check through your extensions to help find which extension is the problem Sometimes the message will tell you.

  • Need advice about replacing desktop, with laptop?

I need to replace my old desktop. Know nothing about laptops! Would like to clear my spare room of computer desk and junk! Would a laptop serve the same purpose, as a desktop?
I'm a retired lady and mainly use my computer for email, internet surfing and some games.
I would not use for traveling.
How would I connect to my broadband? Can I plug in without relying on battery? Can I still use my printer?
In other words, can I use a laptop just as use my desktop?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi Patsy.  I am confused on why so many are trying to steer you away from the laptop when it sounds like that is just what you are wanting.  Personally, I think you would love a laptop.  Like you I don't travel all that often, but the biggest advantage of the laptop for me has nothing to with travel and everything to do with the mobility of it within my own home.  If I want to lay on the couch and play on the internet, go outside on the patio and read an article or sit in bed and play a game on the computer or watch a DVD, it is no problem.  I have had my laptop about a year now and it is hands down more convenient than the desktop in my study.
In answer to a few of your questions, yes a laptop would work with your internet in exactly the same way as the desktop, BUT you would need to purchase a wireless router in addition to the laptop.  This router is what allows you to be wireless in your home.  You can then plug in anywhere in the house or work off the laptop battery, whichever you so choose.  The printer is the same way.  You could hook the printer directly to the router or if the printer has wireless capabilities, it could be recognized by your router and be wireless too, meaning it simply needs to be plugged in and not connected to anything else and you could still send documents straight from your laptop to it.
As for computers, if you ever see a poster start talking in detail about graphics cards, more than likely they are high-end gamers.  In other words, not simple computer games but very graphic intense games that call for really good graphics cards.  From what you describe your use as, which is very similar to mine, you are just wanting it for internet/email, basic computer games and maybe some word processing abilities.  Most laptops you get today will probably have a graphic card that supports all you need.  The following is just my opinion on laptops based on needs that sound close to mine, so hopefully I won't get jumped on too much by other computer experts.  I would encourage you to avoid taking the cheapest route with a laptop.  That isn't to say avoid a good deal, just go for a good brand.  In my opinion the good brands do not include Toshiba (just personal experience based on several people who have gotten one in the last couple of years and reading up on them before buying) or Gateway (although I think they may have been purchased by Asus as was eMachine, so the quality might be better now.  They use to be crap!).  I would stick with HP or Dell myself.  I have a Dell, which again high end gamers are not as fond of because they have an integrated  graphics card.  For what you would use it for, a Dell would be more than fine, and they have been around a long time for a reason!  That is what my old desktop is too, and they have always responded to my issues, even when not under warranty anymore with that desktop.  As for what to look for, you should be able to get a decent laptop for $400-$550, maybe cheaper, but get a little more to the laptop and it will last you a little longer. I would look for something that is a Core2Duo versus simply Dual Core.  Try to go for at least 3GB memory, 4GB is better. As to the size of the hard drive, if you mainly just save pictures and documents like me a 160GB hard drive is more than enough, but if higher, even better. The huge retailer that starts with W, which apparently can't be written here, has some good deals on both HP & Dell, and they offer relatively cheap extended warranties.  Which by the way, I would highly encourage an extended warranty on a laptop.  Here are 2 other good deals I just came across on good laptops {Links removed per Community Guidelines} The 2nd deal has a bigger hard drive and a 17" screen versus a 15.6".  The bigger screen means it is going to be a little heavier though.  I originally wanted the bigger screen myself, but ended up going with the 15.6" as it was just easier to lug around.  They are so close in weight though, I don't know that it would matter that much to some.  As to hooking all this stuff up, such as configuring your router, printer etc.  If you know anyone that is good with computers it is usually a pretty simple task for them.  Most of kids in high school can do it with their eyes closed now.  If you don't know anyone, Best Buy has a service called the Geek Squad that will come and do it for you.  Have no idea the cost there, but I do know it doesn't have to be purchased at Best Buy for you to buy that service.
Anyway, I know I wrote you a book, but I hope this info help.  I really think you will be more than pleased with a laptop once you get the purchase and setup out the way anyhow!   Good luck, Leigh.

Uninstall the current TVAP in Control Panel -> Programs and Features

I just created a new profile/user on my MacBook Pro. My pointer/mouse on my trackpad. It works fine in my older user profile, but when I go to the new profile my mac will not respond to clicks. The Mouse moves but will not click. Already tried restarting and the pram zap. The problem starts when I log out of my main profile. If the modem is also a router, either use the modem in bridge and run pppoe client on the TC.. that is assuming ADSL or similar eg vdsl. If it is cable service.. and the modem is a router, then bridge the TC.. go to internet page and select connect by ethernet and below that set connection sharing to bridge.
Please tell us more about the modem if the above gives you issues.

  • White screen - Laptop doesn't recognise own display as default

    Hi all,
I've had a search on the forum for the same issue but there doesn't seem to be any issue exactly matching this, so posting.
I bought an IdeaPad Flex 14 about 9 months ago. It was fine up til about 6 months ago.
Then it started to boot to a white screen everytime it's switched on. It doesn't matter if that is from Shutdown, hibernate or sleep.
As soon as the power button is pressed, there is a white screen, there is no booting information or Lenovo logo first, just straight to a white screen.
If connected to an external display (TV or monitor) then the 2nd display will show what you would expect: boot information, Lenovo logo, windows login. When you get to the desktop, everything as expected and all apps working.
You can also change the display settings to duplicate and the laptop display will change from white to windows desktop and the external display remains on desktop (so duplicate working fine).
If you change to extend, also working as expected.
Unplug the HDMI cable and back to white screen on the laptop.
I've noticed when you go into display options that the laptop seems to think that the laptop display is the 2nd display. I.e. if you click identify, the external display flashes a "1" and the laptop flashes a "2".
It's possible to change all this so that it's the other way around (laptop display now shows "1").
You can now unplug the HDMI cable (assuming you are on either the duplicate or display PC only option) and the laptop display shows the windows desktop.
you can use the laptop for hours with no issue.
As soon as it sleeps or hibernates or shuts down, when you start it up again, it's back to a white screen.
Connecting it to an external display, the settings are back to how they were again: laptop display is display "2" and external is display "1".
When the laptop has the white screen, there is never any flickering, just a solid white screen. When the external display is attached or the display settings changed, the laptop display responds immediately and is constant until another change is made.
Trying to make it clear that it isn't an intermittent fault and that it obeys very clear rules.
I've tried updating various display (and other drivers) and also regressing to earlier versions one version at a time - still the same issue
I've looked in the BIOS settings and made changes (carefully after researching and then changed them back again) - still same issue
I've tried a windows refresh (wipe everything except personal files) - still the same issue
I've tried a windows reset (wipe absolutely everything) - still same issue.
I'm not sure it's a hardware issue but possibly a driver or firmware issue. In my limited knowledge, I would say that at some fundamental level the default setting for the laptop is set to something other than the laptop display and this needs changing. But I can't find any reference on how to do this.
The laptop is Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 14 running Windows 8.1

Not likely a general firmware flaw as I've not seen this discussed before. Unless reflashing the bios helps (so you have a corrupted bios) or resetting the firmware to factory default settings then I fear a hardware fault. Sounds like something to do with the screen rotation mechanism as connecting a second monitor as the primary will force landscape rotation (simply disabling rotation may have an effect, may not). Thing is, this is happening before even the bios is fully engaged so it feels like a problem with the hardware mechanism/detector.
Do try imaging the drive then restoring to factory install. Just in case it is the UEFI boot mechanism getting messed up.
This is just my thinking. I may, of course, be very wrong. This is where I would start to work it out from though.
