Nothing seen in batch monitor

I'm using Compressor 3. I know it's working because its placed a xxxx.m2v icon on my desktop (the destination) but why can't I see anything in the batch monitor, it worked the other day, now it doesn't, nothing's changed on the Mac. And what does 'select a cluster to view batches' mean?

Something has killed your encode (yes, call me Captain Obvious). Anyway to kill anything that's currently being encoded, go to the compressor menu and select the "Reset Background..." option. It should wipe out anything your machine is currently trying to encode. It's probably a good idea to restart your machine after doing this.

  • Batch Monitor and Compressor do nothing when I submit...

    Hey, guys,
I've re-install the whole OS and Final Cut Studio 2,
I use Compressor to encode my video clip,
after setup the format and the destination,
I click the "submit" Button, the batch job send to Batch Monitor,
but Compressor and Batch Monitor do nothing, the status bar didn't run.
Compressor's CPU usage is only about 0.x %.
Any body have the same problem?
    How to solve this problem?

  • Batch Monitor "hangs" on "processing" - nothing happens

All of a sudden, I can't use compressor 2 any more. Batch monitor hangs forever on "processing". It's stuck at 0% with an "unknown" time remaining.
When I try to stop and delete that file, it's stuck on "canceling" forever and nothing happens.
Does anyone know what to do? I tried to trash pref files and repaired disk permissions. I don't know what else to try.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • Batch Monitor Wont cancel item :(

I had a file that I wanted to compress from Motion, so I saved it to my desktop and put it through Compressor. I checked it in Batch monitor as it didn't seen to be doing anything also I spotted that I wanted one more filter on the footage, so I cancelled the file in batch monitor and trashed the desktop original.
My problem is now everytime I go back into batch monitor after submitting a new file in compressor, the canned file is still there trying to cancel and it wont let me get anything else done.
Please advise if anyone out there can help, as im going out of my mind trying to sort it out - my last resort is to do a clean install and I really dont want to do that

Cannot cancel a job in Batch Monitor

I sumbitted a Compressor 3 job, a 10-sec Motion project that I wanted to encode in Flash using the On2 plugin (I also have Flash 8 installed). This kind of job was routine with Compressor 2 and took very little time.
With Compressor 3, things look weird. I submitted the job and almost 25 minutes later it was still sitting in the job list of the Batch Monitor, its progress bar empty, no processor activity reported. I decided to cancel this job but was not successful. I quit Batch Monitor, trashed permissions of both Compressor 3 and Batch Monitor, deleted the Motion project that was the source of the encode, re-installed Compressor 3 - nothing helps.
Now whenever I submit a new job it lands in the queue which is being halted by the old indestructible job. This defective job does not progress and I cannot cancel it. If I Reset Background Processing, this job comes back as a new job and sits there ticking off new time. The log follows:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
    <services>
    </services>
If anyone can tell me how to get rid of this job without erasing the hard drive, I will be very grateful.

Sounds similar to the problem I described in this thread.
This is how I deleted the entire queue when I couldn't cancel in Batch Monitor:
    1) In the Finder, select the menu item Go->Go to Folder...
    2) Enter /var/spool/qmaster
    3) Trash the folder(s) that you see in that folder
    4) In Compressor, select the menu item Compressor->Reset Background Processing...

    I found this thanks George

  • Submitted tasks not appearing in the batch monitor

In other words Compressor seems to be totally useless after the update.
I select my preset, and the destination, I click submit, I get the little popup with the name, cluster and priority options, I click submit, and then nothing happens. Nothing at all. Nothing appears in the batch monitor, just nothing.
A little "last submitted at.." appears at the bottom of the upper window, but that's it.
Can anyone please help? Compressor was working so well before the update...

OK, now I've noticed something else. When I submit, the batch instantly fails.
If I open the batch monitor I can click on the failed files, revealing this fault: 3x INVOKING METHOD OR ACCESSING MEMBER FOR NULL REFERENCE

  • Batch Monitor troubles - no progress

I'd like to export a project from final cut pro (6.0.4) with compressor (3.0.4), as I did about 50 times before. Compressor opens, I choose my settings and click "send". Batch Monitor opens and that's it. No progress in Batch Monitor, no encoding, no failure code, nothing.
    In the information-box I find:
    pid="261" what="service-request" req-id="06B72FBC-BBB5-4F63-B985-6C4CA034BFF2:1" msg="Error: unrecognized request."></mrk>
What's wrong? If possible I'd like to avoid to reinstall compressor.
I already deleted the prefs for compressor and batch Monitor, I repaired disk permissions and restarted.
Exporting the movie with quicktime works fine, exporting audio only works fine, too.
What's wrong with Batch Monitor? Any idea someone?
    Thx, Wolfgang

Sounds like Qmaster has missing assets.
Qmaster is what controls batch monitors, batch lists.
You will need to reinstall Qmaster again.

  • Batch monitor

i just stopped a batch in mid compression because I looked at one of the results and realised it had a fault. I then trashed everything and set the batch up again to re-compress it. When it came to batch monitor the old batch was still there so I deleted it again or at least I tried to delete it. All the movie files except the one that was in mid compression had their status changed to cancelled but the one that was midway through was still processing. But nothing was happening. I've tried to delete the batch anyway I can but it wont go. I tried trashing the preferences but that didn't help - unless there are preferences elsewhere than in the library folder. I tried repairing disc permissions. So far nothing will get rid of this batch and until it goes batch monitor is locked up.
    Any ideas?

I solved the problem by deleting batch monitor and compressor and reloading from the original software discs.
Should be easier to resolve than this!!

  • Processes in Batch Monitor Disappear

I'm using a fairly large quick cluster that has about 52 processors on it. There is a designated controller that is not sharing any processors for compressing. I'm having a problem where the batch of files compressing completely disappears from the batch monitor. It looks like there is nothing processing, however the qmaster light is still green.
Unfortunately, it's not something I can just wait out and see if files start showing up. Anyone else have this problem or know of some fixes?

Depending on what type of encode I'm doing, Batch Monitor does crazy stuff. When doing transcodes using H.264 codec, I've all but given up on relying on the time estimates being accurate. It will be done when it's done. For everything else, it's fairly reliable so long as I drill down to what's actually being encoded to get the real ETA until finish and I let it get past %5 complete. The initial times to complete encodes, anything from %1-4% are rarely accurate. And sometimes, it loses track what it's reporting on. When that happens, all I do is quit and launch it again.

  • Batch Monitor shows no progress - qmaster doesn't seem to process anything

I've been using this iMac since my company bought it a year ago and haven't had trouble with compressor until earlier this week when it just stopped working - no error message no crash - its just doesn't process jobs. I haven't updated anything or added any weird software of which I'm aware. Unfortunately I don't have a time machine back up to return to. We have the extended apple care and I haven't reformatted and reinstalled everything yet, I'm desperately trying to avoid that as I've already had to do it once in the past few months and it put me back at least a week of productivity as it took several days to get everything reinstalled. The same is true for taking it to the local apple specialist - took them a week last time I dropped a computer off there.
Whether its a file that I'm opening in compressor or a project I'm exporting from final cut I can wait for 20 hours and no progress is made I've done a great deal of searching on these as well as other online forums and taken lots of advice given to other people with similar problems and nothing seems to work here's what i've tried in a rough order:
    Checking for Updates
    Resetting back ground processes
Deleting preferences (for compresser et al)
    turning sharing on/turning sharing off
    starting qmaster using terminal
    restarting qmaster using terminal
checking qmaster's settings using terminal and setting 'rendering' and processing to 'on'
Reinstalling compressor, qmaster, qadministrator and batch monitor using Pacifist
When Reinstalling I never click the box to share processing on a network
I've tried starting jobs with it disconnected from my office LAN
I've tried Everything on the compressor troubleshooting basics page including deleting all files associate with compressor, qmaster, qadmin and even motion and reinstalling them.
after each reinstall I always update compressor as it wont even start in snow leopard without updating
I've checked in activity monitor - qmaster is running just fine, it appears.
If anyone has any more suggestions as to things that could be done, please offer them.

    try these initial things:
    • check the QMASTER logs in /var/logs (or simply use the /applications/utilities/CONSOLE.app). IF its failing or stalled there WILL be a reason for it.
    • look for QMASTER crashes logs...... you maybe not be able to red the dump but there will be a common thing in there somewhere...
    • stalled?: maybe sitting in the ACTIVE QUEUE with PROCESSING, but doing nothing.. maybe one of the services has failed. I se an EMAIL address up in the compressor to tell if anything broke. works great!
    • stalled?: maybe your set up the cluster maybe expecting MANAGED SERVICEs and you cluster is not SETup for that.lots of these things.
anyway, have a look in the console logs and post your stuff. Happy to help you with it.
I have found the latest qmaster and compressor with FCS3 is very good.
LAstly, I have had the ODD thing that utilises PERIAN plugins etc t sit and do nothing. PErian ends up dumping.. anyway all this can be worked around.

  • DSP 4 and Batch Monitor crash immediately

I've used DVD Studio Pro 4 and Batch Monitor on my Mac repeatedly, though it has been about two months since I've last done so. Now, whenever I run either, they crash immediately, with little clue left as to why. (The console simply says "DVD Studio Pro crashed," and that a log was written out. But the log file is incomprehensible to me.)
I've tried rebooting; even re-installing DSP4, to no avail. I've also tried to remember what I may have installed over the past couple of months to cause this problem and nothing obvious jumps to mind. The only candidates I can even think of are Keyboard Maestro or QuicKeys, though they were only trial editions, and as far as I can tell they're no longer running--and no longer installed--on my machine.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
    Thanks.

There was a problem with a recent Pro Apps update, as I far as I've been able to tell. I found something that helped me fix Compressor with the same problem, but I can't fix DVDSP yet. I'm going to do some more searching and see what I come up with. I'll let you know what I find.

  • Batch Monitor non-responisve

I'm using the most current version of compressor. Every time I submit a video file to compress, the batch monitor says processing but nothing is happening. I wait and wait and wait and the elapsed time gets longer and longer. There's no indication that compressor is doing anything.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled FCP2 and still get the same problem. Please help not sure what's going on here...
    support would be greatly appreciated.

Batch monitor is just that, an application which monitors batches being submitted to Qmaster.
Compressor and Qmaster work hand in hand, but unfortunately, Qmaster has a reputation of being quite a pain to use if its not working right. Just take a look at this forum and you'll see why.

  • Batch Monitor not appearing

I know, I'm using an much older version of Compressor (1.2 to be exact). It is working, but oddly enough, the button for Batch Monitor brings up nothing. It is supposed to bring up a monitor so I can watch the progress, but nothing happens when I press it. It does encode the files, but I have no way of checking the progress until the file has completed and actually opens (very odd way to check things). Anyone ever experience this? I have turned of open Batch Monitor on launch to see if that would work, but it still doesn't appear. Very very strange.

    Hi Jorge.
You should also be able to track the process in the History window.
Has the batch monitor wrorked previously for you?

  • Can't create a new batch or open the batch monitor

I just installed Final Cut Studio 2 and everything works fine except for Compressor. When I open the program nothing comes up and I can bring up all the windows manually except for the batch monitor which is obviously needed in order to compress files. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I just installed Final Cut Studio 2 and everything works fine except for Compressor.
Ok, so Compressor isn't working. What signs are being presented that tell you this?
When I open the program nothing comes up and I can bring up all the windows manually except for the batch monitor which is obviously needed in order to compress files.
Wait a minute, you just said that Compressor isn't working. If I understand you correctly, you can open the application. It is also my understanding that you don't have any idea how the Compressor interface works.
The Batch Monitor is a separate application which is only used to monitor batches that have already been submitted from Compressor. That's all it's used for, it's just a monitor. Think of it this way, it's the gas gauge on your car's instrument cluster, it just tells you how much fuel is left in the tank, it's not the tank itself.
Here's a pretty quick overview on how and when to use Compressor:
    http://www.pixelcorps.tv/macbreak153
What specific problem are you having with Compressor? Have you added a job that isn't being submitted?

  • Now Batch Monitor unexpectedly quits

Ok so I finally got the 'unable to connect to background process' thing to go away when i submit a batch. The problem was in somthing Qmaster, because as soon as i deleted everything with compressor and qmaster in it and did a clean install of compressor the problem was gone.
    But guess what, NEW PROBLEM!!!
So now when I submit a batch the batch monitor wont open, it just unexpectidly quits every time. Does anyone know how to alleiveate that?
I am on my wits end with these **** compressor problems. Ever scince I upgraded to tiger it has been nothing but problems.

For some reason, batch monitor is now working for me again. I did follow these instructions to start up Qmaster services when Compressor started telling me it couldn't even submit a batch because it couldn't connect to background services. When I finished doing this, Batch Monitor worked fine.
    Instructions (from http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1107231):
Launch Terminal (Application>Utilities>Terminal) and type this:
    sudo /Library/StartupItems/Qmaster/Qmaster
Then hit return, then enter your administrative password. Then you should get a message about Qmaster services starting up.
Re-launch Compressor, see if it works.

I just purchased a new mac mini and would like to use my old dell monitor. I tried a HD to VGA adapter converter,it plugs in, but nothing shows on the monitor. Any suggestions?

What do you mean by "HD to VGA adapter converter"?
Do you mean have an HDMI to VGA adapter connected the the Mini's HDMI port?
Or maybe you plugged n the the included HDMI to DVI adapter and then connected a DVI to DVI adapter?
In either case that will not work since VGA is analog and the Mini's HDMI port is digital only.
You need to purchase a mini displayport to VGA adapter. It plugs into the Mini's Thunderbolt port.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB572Z/B/mini-displayport-to-vga-adapter
Make sure you get a name--brand one. I purchased some el cheapo, no-name ones and they did not work
