Nothings working safe mode boot from cd and start up

Safe mode won't work
Boot from cd won't work
Os is gone because I have a extra partition for some weirdreason and only boots in hd recovery

Boot from the recovery partition (Command +R on boot) and use disk utility to repair your OS 10.7 partition.

  • Can not boot in safe mode or from install disk

Having major issues. MBP getting stuck at a blue screen after the gray apple screen. Tried pressing and holding shift key while starting for safe mode and still goes to blue screen. Tried holding c key and starting with sl install disk in drive and still goes to blue screen. Issue started with continous cycle back to login screen from my main user account and due to my stupidity of turning on automatic login from a admin test account (thinking I could trick it), I am now in this vicious cycle.
And no I don't have a bootable clone. I just updated to SL and like an lazy idiot didn't go ahead and make my bootable clone.
FYI I do have a timecapsule with a week old or so backup.
    Any suggestions?

having a time capsule with TM backups is certainly good. you can always restore your system from it in a pinch.
do you have a firmware password set perhaps? it would preclude booting in safe mode or from the dvd using "c". reboot and hold option at the chime. this should boot you into startup disk manager where you can choose to boot from the DVD.
if you do have a firmware password set it will ask you to enter the firmware password before letting you use the startup disk manager.

  • POSReady7x32 F8 Safe mode boot

I have just done a clean install of PoSReady7 32 bit.
No additional drivers or Windows updates installed.
    OS boots to desktop ok.
However, when I press F8 and select a safe mode boot option, the OS boots as far as the Welcome screen with the animated circle. At this point it reboots! No error message displayed.
Does the same reboot when I use MSCONFIG to force a safe mode boot.
When I use MSCONFIG to force safe mode boot and also select F8 boot option 'Last known good configuration' then OS boots into safe mode ok.
Anyone got any ideas as to why I cannot get into safe mode by just selecting it from F8 boot menu?

    Thanks for the suggestion.
The usual Windows boot menu is already being displayed ok when F8 is pressed before Windows OS starts loading.
Anyway, I entered 'bcdedit /set {bootmgr} displaybootmenu yes' which completed successfully but it hasn't stopped the OS from rebooting when I use the F8 safe boot option.

  • EMac 700MHz display turned purple/pink. Can't boot from HD and CD

    hi,
    I have several issues here:
    1) My eMac display turned purple/pink from the start
    2) It won't start from either HD or CD. It gets to the grey Apple and the spinning wheel.. After a while of spinning, it freezes and nothing else I can do. This happens on booting from HD and CD.
    Please help.

try unplugging the cord for an hour or so. unplug it completely, from where it goes into the machine as well as the outlet. if that doesn't work, you could also try a pmu reset. instructions are found in part 6 of this article. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=34885 let me know if that makes any difference.

Are you talking about the indicator for open applications?
If you're on Lion, it just reopened apps that where open when you shut it down.

  • Cant archive & install OR safe mode boot and finder is screwed

I will try and put this all in one post.
    - Running a G5 dual processor. For some reason the thing has always taken overnight to repair permissions.
    - Lately it only randomly sees DVDs, depending on it's mood.
    - After installing 10.3.9 upgrade the finder is all screwed up. Takes half an hour after logging in to settle down. Web browsing and a couple of applications will work, but if you try and use the finder for anything it will give the spinning beachball forever. Even if you try and "save as" a simple text document that will happen, or if you just click on a file on the desktop to get info the beachball comes. It all seems to center around the finder.
    - This does not happen when i log in on the "guest" account I made for guests at my house. (however, if you log in as a guest and then try to go to the hard drive to save the files on the other users desktop it will give the beachball as soon as it has to start "looking" over there)
    - Tried repairing disk permissions a few times. Tried trashing the finder preferences. Nothing worked.
    - Gave up and thought it would be easier to get Tiger, and simply archive and install, but it refuses to "see" the install disk for Tiger. It just spits it out.
    - Tried starting in "safe mode" but it freezes the computer and then goes into airplane hanger mode and I have to shut down.
    - Tried booting to the Tiger disk by holding down the "C" during boot, and it just spits out the disk.
    - tried resetting pram
    - Finally in desperation I thought I would just do an archive and install from the ORIGINAL powermac G5 disk 10.3, but after it begins to install it says there was an error and after trying again a couple of times the same error comes up.
    - I CANNOT wipe the hard drive as the data is EXTREMELY valuable.
    Any help MUCH appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello all,
    Update:
I have found I have an "Invalid node structure" and when trying to repair the disk it returns "Error: The underlying task reported failure on exite (-9972)
So after reading more, and trying more, it seems I am screwed and am attempting to back everything i have up before wiping the hard drive completely and installing Tiger from the ground up.
Therefore I am changing the subject of this thread and simply asking what i need to do to preserve all my data, preferences, safari bookmarks, iCal dates, etc etc. I have to do this all manually because computer is barely stable at this point, running extremely slow taking hours at a time, and i'm sure cant use a backup program.

  • 'Famous' blue screen at startup AND safe mode boot failure

    Dear all,
Two days ago, after installing the new Java update/airport update and restarting, I encountered a 'blue screen' on startup after getting past the mac symbol and swirling cog. I cannot say whether the updates were the cause (doubtful) of if my cheap USB mouse that was still plugged it caused it or whether i have the dreaded 'bad sectors.' The cause aside, here is what i've tried to fix the issue:
    1) Disk Utility - Verification (OK'd) and Repairs (fine)
    2) Disk Utility - Verification of Permissions (a few needed to be done) All repaired
    -blue screen-
    -Restart after period-
    3) Rebooting in safe mode, removing startup items from the login items settings menu
    4) Removing startup items from System/Library/StartupItems folders
    5) Remove airport extensions (recent - date modified in list view)
(NB - safe mode i could say my desktop perfectl in original form and all files!)
    -Restart-
-no longer able to start in safe mode-
    -blue screen remains-
    6)Single User mode -
resetting preference files (loginwindow.plist and windowserver.plist)
Finally system profiler from Tiger DVD states:
    *Permissions repaired
*Dependency errors: com.apple.iokit.IOUSBFamily & com.apple.kernel.iokit no valid version found
    *Integrity: kext has no receipt
I backed up most my data from the LAST crash, but recent music/1000 photos and others have been backed up altho i've been meaning to! Help!
I'M PANICKING now can no longer get in SAFE MODE!!
    Please help Mac911!!!!

    Update:
So, I managed to do ALL that you said, EXCEPT, the reboot and work fine business.
I created the admin account which works fine. So now I can see three user accounts (looks like there as already an admin type one).
The one I created works fine, only, I can only access/see the login screen through a safe boot, (otherwise blue screens...) . I can get into the admin account fine, but when restarting and logging in as my original user account it won't boot. Something is very wrong in MY user account. I think at this point my data there is still retrievable somehow for a backup, clean start. but i haven't reached that point yet.
Anyone have any clues what migt have caused the error in my user login?
One of the things I tried (too hastily now i admit) first was to remove the recently added updates from the extensions folder. has this exacerbated the problem? Can i put them back without logging in as me??
remember from my first post system profiler says software/extensions integrity 'kext has no receipt' and dependency errors: 'com.apple.iokit.IOUSBFamily and com.apple.kernel.iokit; no valid version found' - whereas in my newly created admin account it appears AOK.
    is this the source?
    any ideas anyone?
sorry lots of queries here but i am ever hopeful.....
    All yours,

  • Why is there no 'safe mode' in my folder and how do i stop Firefox from unexpectedly crashing without it?

Firefox crashes anywhere from startup to shutdown and everywhere in between. Idling, surfing, downloading.. none of these appear specific to my crash. Crash data isn't yet in Canadian English, so i'm not much help there. Far as i can tell, it's apps or memory usage, but without 'safe mode' there is little i can do to get Firefox back to the great browser it once was.

Thanks for the reply. here is the behavior for all steps:
    1. use oper. system safe mode: it works, I can send email
    2. no oper. sys. safe mode, t'bird safe mode: cannot send mail
    3. no oper. sys safe mode, no t'bird safe mode, all addons disabled: cannot send mail.
It only works when i use oper. sys. safe mode.
Addons for t'bird were enabled in this test.
(Not using T'bird safe mode either in this test.)
Use BitDefender antivirus, which does not have a setting to turn on/off email scanning. Should I contact BD support? (it seems to point to BD as causing the problem. Interesting that I don't have this problem on 2 other desktops, only the laptop. And in the past, T'bird worked on the laptop. I have tried uninstall and reinstall, but mozilla is SAVING all my account and other info, so I cannot do a clean install. it seems to me that if I could do a clean install, it might work. Any idea how to remove all the data and uninstall?
    thanks,

  • G4 (10.4.11) won't boot from disk and won't safe boot

I lost the items from the bottom half of my finder sidebar list on my G4 running under 10.4.11. The instructions to correct this problem that I found include safe booting (holding down shift after startup tone). However, this just doesn't happen (left with spinning gear for minutes). I tried to boot from two different disks (DiskWarrior and Apple's Hardware Test - holding down C at startup), but with the same result... a spinning gear.
I can still boot the computer as normal and it still works, but there is obviously something not right.
    Anyone recognise these peculiarities?
    Thanks,
    Lee

    Lee:
I always shut down my Mac when not in use and some times I will restart when an application slows down. When you load applications they most always require restart. When the monitor freezes on some glitch the first maintenance recommended is to restart or shut down for a couple of minutes. Your Mac will respond much better. sometimes to many application may be open at once. I sometimes forget that I've opened an application and forget to close it. Keep it lean and plenty of free disk space on your OS Volume (hard drive) for Virtual Memory your Mac uses it often for temp storage. I have two backup Firewire hard drives that I keep most important data. I try to keep all applications on my OS Volume and only data that I use every day and I always backup when I complete my up date.

  • Macbook pro wont boot in safe mode or from CD

    Hey all
Two days ago my mack book pro (2 years old) fooze giving me a blue screen (dark blue with lines, not the ligthbue, which you se at start-up). I tried change the harddisk and rebooted using the command-r option. I succesfully re-installed mac os using the internet option. Next the macbook work for 1.5 day without any problems. However this evning the computer  brook down again. I recieved the dark blue screen again. I then tried to boot from both a CD and from the internet. However the reboot-keys are not working any more, and I cant get pass the inital start up screen. When tried booting from the CD it recieved the message from the attached image. Can anybody tell, how I will be able to boot the machine ?
    Thanks Dennis

    Dennis,
if your MacBook Pro is two years old, then it didn’t come with OS X on DVDs — it came with OS X on a recovery partition on the internal hard disk. Your picture shows a version of OS X from 2008, which your two year old MacBook Pro would be unable to run — which is why you’re getting the results that that picture shows.
You’ll need to repeat the OS X Internet Recovery that you did the previous time; erase your internal disk, and redownload your computer’s original version of OS X from Apple’s servers through the Command-R boot. Once you’ve reïnstalled its original version of OS X and have run Software Update, try running the Apple Hardware Test by holding down the D key as you restart, and then run its extended test, to see if it can detect a hardware problem.

  • Unable to boot normal, in safe mode or from install DVD

When I walked into my office this morning and hit my keyboard to wake my Mac all I saw on the screen was a white mouse arrow and a black screen. I held down the power button to restart, it starts to boot and then stops at a gray screen telling me to hold down the power button and restart. Doing this brings me to the same screen. I have attempted the following:
Booting while holding the Shift key - this takes a bit longer but takes me to the same gray screen
Booting with the install DVD in and holding the "c" key - DVD spins a bit then gray screen
Booting while holding "option" and selecting the install DVD - DVD spins a bit then gray screen
Booting in Single User mode and ran "/sbin/fsck -fy" it returned - *** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***, ran it again and returned - ** The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK
I am not sure where to go from here, and advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bob

I posted in the wrong forum, I am using 10.5, I have reposted this in that forum.

  • First windows only safe mode boots. Now system won't power up. :(

    First A Hearty Thank You
First of all, thank you all for helping me with my issues here( https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=50738&sid=&hilight=Bamaboy ).  And thanks Bas for the heads up on the 1 Gig of RAM thing with Windows98.  That's one possibility I hadn't even considered.  (But it still seems strange that it would even go into safe-mode witth the 1gig, does it not? )
But A Whole New Gremlin Rises To Challenge Me
But now I have a whole new issue that may prevent me from even trying your suggestions from before.  While experimenting on different ways to get my system running, I took off one of the front panel USB connectors and inserted the D-Bracket thingie, and the system booted once normally (well, normal meaning I could access the BIOS/Windows Safe mode, etc ).  And after that, it won't boot at all!
    *sigh*
How do I kill THIS Gremlin?
Does anyone have any idea what the problem could have been?  I didn't smell anything fun, so I don't think anything fried, but I could be wrong.  I've tried turning off and disconnecting the power supply, but nothing.  The fan don't come on, and I don't hear anything powering up at all.
    Any ideas?

Not sure exactly what I did to do the trick.  I unplugged one of the front panel USB connectors as suggested, and I turned off and unplugged the PSU and restarted.  And everything powered up!  I still have no idea why this worked, but I'm not complaining.
Now I'm at least back to square one of trying to figure out how to get Win98 to load up.

  • Safe mode boot?

hello, i am trying to start photoshop CS6 in safe mode to solve some strange application behavior..Can someone give me instructions how to do it?

It's an interesting idea though.  One issue might be screen resolution.  Photoshop needs a minimum screen size in pixels, and you probably going to be looking at SVGA (according to your monitor's aspect ratio).  You can give it a go though, and I think 1024 x 768 was the minumum spec for Photoshop so you might be OK.
F8 on boot is a common switch for Safe Mode with PC systems, but Google your particular hardware if that doesn't work.  You may find you have to repeatedly hit F8 while starting the computer to hit the right moment.
Note:  Your desktop icons might be scruched into a corner when you next start the computer normally after Safe Mode.

  • Boot issues with Win98. Safe Mode Boot only. Not all drives detected...

Hello guys!  This is a great source of information and I've learned a TON browsing this place (on company time, hehe), but I've hit a road block that I can't maneuver around.
    System Config
    Neo K8T Neo Fisr mobo
    Athlon64 3200+ CPU
    1 Gig Kingston RAM
    Ti4200 64 MB video card
520 Watt Antec Power Supply (after getting schooled by Bas's great posts on the importance of PSUs, I found out my lame-o 350 watt (!!!!) PSU, errr, ain't gonna quite cut it.)
    Problem:
Windows98 won't boot all the way to normal mode.  It only boots to safe mode.    Apparently a driver issue?
    Symptoms/Clues:
    - Only detects my Western Digital harddrive (and only after some finegling)
    - Wierdness with my 1.44 3.5" floppy (A:) drive.  At first the BIOS would tell me the A: drive was there, regardless of whether it was plugged in.  Then I plugged in the A: drive and Win98 in safe mode couldn't read from it.  Right now, I don't have my A: drive connected and it's not in my Boot Order sequence (hard drive only for now).
    - BIOS doesn't detect my new CD-ROM (SONY) drive at all.  Note, this is a brand new drive that was NOT on my old system.
    - I disabled the S.ATA controller.  (This was confusing because there's an option to disable some SATA thing under an "Integrated Peripherals" menu.  However, there's another setting to disable s SATA thing under a PCI Controller's menu.  Seemed vague to me,, but then it's been a while since I've done this sort of thing.)
    - I cleared the CMOS earlier because of wierdness were the system would hang on bootup and would ask me about starting a "Flash Recovery" process, upon which it would just sit there ( I left it running overnight once).
    Call for help
Unfortunately I have no boot floppies, so I was hoping this was something I could fix without one, perhaps by changing some BIOS settings.  Maybe it's a RealTek Boot Agent thing?
    Any help is appreciated!
    BamaBoy

Im running win 98se with no real problems, and its doing so well that I still dont even feel like trying anything else..........
I'd say RE-clear your c-mos , using the jumper, and unplugging the power for 5 seconds..... then reset your bios settings.......Also, maybe just reinstall the via 4-in1 chipset drivers...... I remember fiddling with some bios setttings before, like the acpi     by os or by bios etc.... that helped.....but its been awhile......The great thing about 98 is that you CAN tweak so much.......
You can reinstall over itself also, which can help redetect the hardware, yyou should always have the 98 files on the hard drive so you dont need the floppy or cd...... So many things you can try....... Resolve yourself to trying as many as possible , its fun when you get it right........... My prob. is that I never remember what I did to fix stuff heheheheh.......good luck
ps, the "flash recovery" thingy has to do with the realtek ethernet lan thingy....which you should disable in its bios.....I forgot how to get to it, I think F11 or something like that while it shows when you are booting....Then it will still ask when you boot, but wwont hang......
