Noticed that flash isnt supported on Mac OS 10.5.8 also...

firefox/chrome will no longer be supporting it, i do not wanna buy a new macbook i own the white one from 2008 and it still runs perfectly, what do i do?

You can upgrade to 10.6.8. The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is back in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion or Mountain Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
You can upgrade from 10.5 straight to 10.6 with no problems as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM.
Any third party program that runs under 10.5 should run under10.6. See this list for third party programs compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/ You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc....
And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications
http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

• Sites that don't support the Mac

"Wheel of Fortune" on TV advertises scrabblecubes.com where we can supposedly play a word game by that name. At the site, operated by worldwinner.com, we learn that the games only support windoze with explorer. I went to the site of each of the 7 advertisers at the bottom of the page and emailed them that I was disappointed that they did not support the Mac.
We need to let people know that we care.

WorldWinner games use Active-X components that only work with Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0 and higher on personal computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system.
What they are saying is that they download a pc program to play the game. This is a total security hole.! One should be glad that mac os x doesn't support Active-X which means you don't have to buy a virus checking program.
You can run Windows on a new Mac.

• Help with at start up folder that flashes between ? and Mac OS Icon.

So I have an eMac that had Mac OS X 10.3.5 on it. About a week ago a software update came over on my Mac for 10.3.9. I tryed to download it and upgrade my OS. Somewhere along the line something crashed and I tryed to revert back to my 10.3.5 after that I turned off my Mac and turned it on again and I got the darwin screen. Now I dont have the original OS disk that came with this Mac, I got it off a friend of the family. I did have a Power Mac G5 OS X 10.4 CD that I was able to get into the CD by holding down C when started up. the Disk First Aid said everything was fine, and I tryed to install that and it told me that I could not install this software on my Mac. So someone I work with told me to erase the drive in the First Aid menu and the computer will reboot the OS. So I Erased the hard drive and went into the menu that lets you choose the start up OS and that did not load. Now when I turned on my eMac it just goes to a screen with a folder that blinks back and forth between a question mark and a Mac OS Icon.
Another person I work with has a Mac OS X 10.3 CD and said that should get everything up and running again , but he has not found it yet. Last night I tryed my parents iMac OS 10.2 CD and that CD will not load when I hold down C when I start the Mac.
Any Ideas?
Thanks

More accurately, this should read "...that will "only" run on that particular computer model." Those disks are always gray in color.
Generally, a Mac will not accept/run an OS version lower than the one it shipped with.
The Hobo is exactly on target when he asked for the specific model. There are two distinct generations of eMacs and that can affect recommendations. We can better help you if we know which one.
I'm a little confused about the disks. Did any of the disks you're tried or will be borrowing come from an eMac? Did your eMac come with 10.3 pre-installed or did you upgrade from an older version of OSX?
It's a little late in your case, but I have a way of dealing with Software Updates (SU) that's never (knock wood) killed any of our 13 Macs: When a system update is first offered, I don't let SU install it then. I finish what I was doing, closing all active applications, then use Disk Utility on my hard drive to Repair Permissions (RP) BEFORE I allow SU to install anything. Then I run it again AFTER SU finished. Permission repair is controversial but harmless, but I'm doing something right that has kept me from having update problems, so I keep doing RP before installing any updates that SU pushes out.

• I had just upgraded my OS to the OS X Mavericks. After doing so, I noticed that my MS Outlook for Mac 2011 does not sync with the calendar/contacts/notes, thus, also not sync these info with my iPhone4s anymore. Please help, thank you.

Dear Sirs,
I had just upgraded my OS to the OS X Mavericks. After doing so, I noticed the following changes:
1) My MS Outlook for Mac 2011 does not sync with my Mac book's calendar/contacts/notes.
2) My iPhone4s does not sync with my Mac book's calendar/contacts/notes anymore.
Please help, thank you.

Correct, USB local sync was taken away from iphones and ipads with 10.9.1 and 2. We are not allowed to speculate on rumours it might come back in 10.9.3 plus new iTunes. Either wait and see or explore Syncmate 5 beta free trial.
icloud still works.
Cant help with the Outlook problem.

• Flash CS4 crashes in Mac OS X 10.6.2

Flash CS4 began crashing immediately after upgrading to 10.6.2 on my Mac Pro with 8 GB of memory.
I can open my Flash CS4 (v. 10.0.2.566) app, but when I then try to open any .fla it crashes about 2 seconds after the file finishes opening.
This occurs whether I open an existing .fla or if I create a new .fla.
Flash was giving me no significant problems with Mac OS X v. 10.6.1.
None of the following attempts to fix the problem has worked:
First, I dumped my Flash preference files and restarted the app.
Then, I restarted in single user mode and ran a file system check (/sbin/fsck -fy) which found no problems.
Then I uninstalled and reinstalled Flash CS4 (three times).
Then I upgraded Flash 10.0 back up to v. 10.0.2
Then I ran the Mac OS X 10.6.2 update (Combo) based on a posting I saw on the Apple support forum.
My next step is to reinstall Snow Leopard in the hopes that the earlier OS version will work.
Cross your fingers for me.
Does anyone have any other ideas?

There are several ways to temporarily or permanently disable fonts.
A very simple way is to restart your Mac in Safe Boot mode. Hold the shift key down as your Mac starts up. Among other things, this disables all but the system fonts.
Read more about that here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
You can also open the Font Book app and selectively disable fonts. Highlight the fonts you want to disable, and go to Edit > Disable...
(This assumes you use Apple's Font Book and not some other font utility.)
I suggest reading more about that here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2509
You can disable groups of fonts at a time. Then open Flash to see if the problem persists. If it does, then the problem font is in that group. Activate a few fonts at a time, eventually finding the font or fonts that are causing the crash.
You can also drag fonts out of the Fonts folder in your user's Library folder, but I suggest trying these other two methods first.
Good luck.

... does my iMac model... support Hibernatemode 3 alias "Safe Sleep" to protect my Mac against damages due to power outage?
You can set hibernate mode to 3, but it seems to me its only benefit could be if power were to be lost after the iMac was already sleeping. Sleepimage is written to disk prior to system sleep. If your iMac lost power while it was "awake" you would certainly lose any unsaved work no matter what hibernate mode you choose.
The problem is that an iMac without power no longer sleeps, it's dead. Upon restoring power you need to cold boot, and I seriously doubt sleepimage can be forced to load in that event. Sleepimage is loaded upon wake from "safe sleep", not from boot as far as I know.
It is simple enough for you to try, so go ahead and see if it does what you want. Other than creating a 16 GB sleepimage file it did not appear to do anything beneficial on the iMac I am using though (a later model).
The file location is /private/var/vm/sleepimage
Configure hibernatemode, verify the file is created, do some work on your Mac, don't save it to disk (and don't use Pages or similar app that saves work on its own), let it sleep, then pull the plug. I think you will see what I mean.

• Does Flash Access support encrypting the specific audio/video track in a multirate video file?

Hi,
It seams that Flash Access supports encrypting the multirated mp4 file. By setting encrypt.contents.video=true, encrypt.contents.audio=true, the encryption process will encrypt all the video tracks and audio tracks inside this mp4 file.
I am wondering:
Does Flash Access support encrypting the specific audio track or video track by giving the trackID for a specific bitrate inside this multirated mp4 file?
Thanks in advance,
Xia Hui

I am not aware of existing or new feature which allows to encrypt particular track. You can encrypt all audio, all video or both.

• I just upgraded to get a notice that my mac os is not supported. How do I go back to my old firefox?

I will never upgrade again. I downloaded a newer version of fetch and that is when my trouble started. It is was not compatible with my firefox and told me I had to upgrade firefox. So I did. Now I got a message saying Firefox no no longer supports system MAC OS X.5. I am running Mac X.5.8, but do not remember what version of firefox I was running that worked fine, by the way. How do I get back to the highest version of firefox that is compatible with mac os system 10.5.8?

Firefox 16 versions still work with your OS X 10.5 operating system, but that is the last version that will work.
Firefox 17 will require OS X 10.6 and later.
You can see the Firefox 17 (currently in beta) system requirements here:

• I have noticed that when using Tigers Dosk utility to ERASE a flash drive I have a choice of FAT but not FAT32. It seems that flash drives formatted as FAT do not work properly when trying to copy files from a Windows machine. Why?

I have noticed that when using Tigers disk utility to format an external USB flash drive I only have the choice of FAT ( when formatting for use on a Windows machine ) and not FAT32. I have found that USB FLASH drives formatted as FAT do not always work on Windows machines. Why? How can I use Tiger to format for FAT32?

I think it depends on the size of the Flash Drive as to whether it uses FAT16 or FAT32.
Can you format it FAT32 on the PC?

• Anyone using 4.0 Beta 5 on MAC and noticing Adobe Flash creating boxes when moving away from site where flash is used?

Just upgraded to FF 4.0 beta 5 - noticing that when I visit a new page that uses Flash, I navigate away or to other sites and the box that Flash used is blanked out and super-imposes itself over the page. That means when I move from the flash page, the only thing I can do it close the browser and reopen.
Yes, I am using 10.1 (or whatever the latest flash is for my MAC - that also has all its updates). Reverted back to FF 4.0 beta 4 and NO PROBLEM using the older beta version. HELP.

That sounds like a known problem on OS X. From the known issues section of the [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/4.0b5/releasenotes/ Firefox 4 Beta 5 Release Notes]
"Plugin content can be rendered incorrectly leaving blank white squares over web content. Scrolling or switching tabs will often fix the problem, although sometimes you must close the tab which contains that plugin content (see [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=592453 bug 592453])"
This should be fixed in the next beta.

• Firefox just sent a notice that it no longer works with Mac OS X 10.5. Is that why my gmail calendar keeps non- or dysfuntioning?

I have been experiencing constant dysfunction in my Gmail calendar on my Mac Mini, but not on any other computer. It happens whether I am using Safari or Firefox. This morning Firefox sent a notice that is no longer works with Mac OS X 10. Suggestions?

Your best bet is to get a computer capable of running the latest version of Mac OS X - Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8). This is the most secure option and will allow you to run the latest and greatest Firefox.
That is a pretty crazy suggestion just to update a browser! There is another alternative if you are worried about having an unsupported browser.
You can run TenFourFox whose purpose is to support older Macs.

yes, its the macbook air and mac OS X 10.7.4, not sure how that goes, about the time machine and time capsule, i only started using it today, when they were already deleted, also read at the support and help of iphoto, that if you delete your images from the picture folder that the images will be corrupted permanently, does this mean there there is no actual way of getting them back?
Thanks for the help x
