Noticing significant battery loss after brand new battery installed.

Hello, Applecare just gave me a new battery, optical drive, and new screen because of my proction plan on my Feb 2011 MBP. Waited until new battery was fully charged before unplugging to cycle battery. Was I supposed to let it charge 24 hours or something? Is this because of the new operating stystem?

My first impression is that this could very well be normal. When you say "light use", how did you determine this? Is this from subjective self observance, or from an activity trace during the entire actual usage session(s)?
You indicate that upon booting at 100%, you show some 8:53 remaining. This is with the computer presuming that the conditions at the time, and the acuumulated data calculations would indicated that kind of time remaining. Mind you, it has VERY LITTLE data onto which to base this calculation at that point. Only that the system is running, with no application load whatsoever.
By the time the system indicates 85% left (really 80%, with Apple's new battery algorithm), the sytem bnow shows with the usage statistics now avaialble, that if you were to continue using the system under the average conditions for which it has been running, then 3:09 would be the estimated remaining run time.
Mind you, when you read the Activity Monitor trace, Chrome is not active in much of any way (because you are not now browsing). You really have no idea, from your screenshots, just how much Chrome is drawing down power, when it really active (during actual use).

How many hours does a brand new battery last after fully charged. I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro.

clintonfrombirmingham is right, there is no way to exactly tell. But from personal experience, a new battery on a 2008 will last for about 2 1/2 hours with a higher screen brightness and doing something taxing to the battery (like gaming or running lots of 3D programs). But if you're just listening to music with the brightness all the way down, and no programs running, you could get up to 12 hours. So for average use, it should last you a whole business day (assuming you don't use it more than 30% 0f the time). Hope this kind of gives you more of an idea of what to expect:)

  • HT1119 I recently purchased a brand new battery for my mac book pro and if I allow my computer to run out of charge and plug it in just moments later it can take up to 40 minutes to turn back on again!

Is anyone else having this problem? I rely on my computer heavily for work and school and this is just not acceptable! After paying $125 for a brand new battery I would have never expected these problems.

I'm sure that if you search hard enough, you'll find someone else who has had a similar problem, but that does not mean that it is remotely normal or common.  Apple definitely needs to replace the machine, but don't be afraid that the same thing will happen with the new one.
Of course, that's assuming that this wasn't a case of user error.  It's hard to understand how it could be, but in my years of tech support, I've learned to never discount such possibilities.  I've seen people do things like forceably shove plugs into the wrong ports, seemingly oblivious to the fact that it doesn't fit and insistent that it should.

  • Brand new Battery charging 10% at a time...

Hi I have a 1.3ghz with a brand new battery (not apple some chinese ebay...) and everything works fine except the battery wont charge more than 10% at a time.
After every 10% I get the not charging message, I remove then put back the battery and it starts for another 10%. It's charging all the way to 99%. And will offer reasonable time and power when I use it.
I tried reseting PMU and Nvram.... nothing.
I not sure it's a battery problem because once charged it offers great and stable power for near 5h30.
Any ideas, help, or similar seen things.
Could it be the power supply, logic board......?????
    Thanks for the help!

I recently purchased an eBay battery for my daughter's iBook G4 and it seems to work fine. The issue may be with this particular battery that you got. I would see if you can get it exchanged.
The other possibility is that your DC in board may be failing and not supplying continuous power the battery.
I would first get the battery exchanged. If the same behavior persists, I would look at the DC-in board.

  • Having problems with brand new battery installed...Help please!

Here's my problem. I just recently replaced the battery on my 13" Macbook. The brand new battery ordered from Apple arrived on Saturday and up until last night everything was great. Now all of a sudden the computer is doing the same things it did with the old battery. I am getting the green light on the MagSafe Adapter even though the battery is not fully charged. I am also alternating between "Not Charging" on the battery icon and a "X" on the icon.
I did some reading and tried resetting the PRAM and SMC. I even uninstalled Leopard and reinstalled Tiger (updating everything afterwards), thinking maybe it was a software issue. (I just recently installed Leopard and hoped it was just a bad install.) None of that really seems to work.
There is one slight exception- the SMC reset. After I do the SMC reset I get the amber light from the adapter, the icon shows charging and all is well for about 15 to 30 minutes. Then I am back at square one.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or ideas on what could be going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It seems like you have eliminated all the easy fixes for your problem - what is left is the computer itself. Call Apple (800-275-2273) and explain the troubleshooting you have already done. They should set up a repair for your computer. If it is out of warranty you may have to pay for the repair.
    Best of luck.

  • I just got a brand new battery god my iPhone 4S at the apple support and it's still draining super fast

I just got my battery on my iPhone 4S replaced at the apple store and it's a brand new battery and I've had the battery for less than a week and it's already starting to drain fast just like my old one. I've been out of state for a few days. I don't know if that's part of the issue or not. Please help!!

In iTunes on your computer, select the Purchased section under STORE in the left column. Click on the first track and choose "Get Info" from the "File" menu.
In the "Summary" tab you'll see details of the purchaser of the track. Click Next to go through all your purchased music one by one until you find the ones you need to get rid of.
Unfortunately, there are no smart playlist rules that can filter tracks by the purchaser that I know of.

Yes, it says no battery installed. The battery icon with an X and system profiler saying no batter installed.
Tried the SMC Reset - didn't work!

  • Brand new Battery

    Hey Guys,
My iBook(1.42Ghz) has now 2 batteries. My first battery that came with my computer used to hold a 5-6 hour charge, now its at 190 cycles and holds about 1:30. So, I decided to purchase a new battery. I charged my new battery and unplugged my charger to see how much it will hold. I changed my settings for Better Battery Life and I get about 4 hours out of a brand new battery. Now according to the Apple Store Website, it should be holding 6 hours. What should I be doing about this?
*Note by computer is under AppleCare, are my batteries covered by this?
    Matt

If you bought the battery from Apple, it should have its own Applecare warranty. Best check with Apple as long as you are still under warranty. If you can get to an Apple store, they can probably check everything out for you and it won't cost you anything. There is always the possibility that your computer might have a problem that is causing the shorter battery function, and if so, you definitely want to have this documented while you have Applecare. And if the battery itself is faulty, they certainly should be willing to replace it.
    Good luck!

  • Brand New Battery still doesnt charge just show X   and i have reset smc still doesnt work

Brand new battery for apple still does not work have reset smc many times  still shows X in the battery and when it says its     charge the battery icon says 0%     I KNOW ITS NOT THE BATTERY BECAUSE I HAVE PUT IT IN A ANOTHER COMPUTER AND IT WORKED FINE
    ANY IDEAS??????

You may have a problem with the logic board. I had the same issue on a MacBook Pro and had to get the logic board replaced.

  • No power to computer with or without plug and reset button on battery not responding. New battery?

No power to MacBook Pro with or without plug; no response from battery reset button.  New battery?

That can depend on what variant of the MacBook Pro you have. The MacTracker database shows 33 major variants since 2006.
First, does your MacBook Pro have silver or black keys? That is a good place to start because black-key models do not have a quick-change battery. Batteries were historically less reliable in the silver key versions.

  • Says my brand new battery is charging but dosent change from 0%, after 10 mins the adapter changes to green and the battery dissapears from the mac.

Like the topic says, have an macbook pro 15 late 2008 works like a charm.
Have had a bad battery for over a year so today i bought a new one, plugged it in
and started my mac, said charging and stood on 0% for about 10 mins then the adapter
turned green and the battery didnt show up on my mac anymore, tried and SMC or whats
it called, same thing happened again
downloaded cocnut battery and there it just said when i was charging that the
    battery was -1 amh?
isnt new battery supposed to be delieverd with 50% on them?
What can be the problem here? is it the AC adapter?
helpful for anytips, a very poor student so cant have it on a service

    Hi iphone_warrior,
thanks for the reply and for your support. However, I did not understand why I as customer should go to the next Apple store nor why I should pay 29,- Euros for the replacement.
I give you an example. I have an HP printer. Was not working any more after 2 month. HP send me a new printer and took back the old without any charge.
Apple knows that it is a problem with the phone battery. Why the customer should pay for that. The customer has warranty, the customer paid the product. Apple has to care about the customer. It seems that Apple cares more about to increase its profit and leave the support its customers. Anyhow, if this the only way I have to invest the time and will go for the Apple store. I hope the buggy phone will be replaced by one which is working properly. Otherwise I will go for the offer from Samsung which won't be a good advertisement for Apple at all.
    Best regards, Harun99
I wonder why this threat has been taken from the discussion forum. Is that the way Apple is working with the feedback from its customers. Very dissapointing.

  • Extreme battery loss after iOS 6.01 upgrade on iPhone4 - WHY??

No problem with iOS 6.0, but after installing 6.01 battery loss is ekstreme.
I did not change any settings,
Do not use push Mail settings or other battery heavy usage settings
And again - this was ok until 6.01
    HELP !!

    I may have solved this myself now;
deleted all my mail accounts (exchange, live, cloud)
turned the phone off -and on
created exchange mailaccount again, and synced
did the same with my live-account
And after 4 hours I still have 98% battery left.  WOW!!
Remark;  I did not - either before or after - used push mails
Hope others with the same problem can be helped by this too.
Thanks to all who read and tried to help :-)

  • Brand new battery only getting 90% of full charge

is it normal to only get 4370 mAh full charge capacity on a brand new 45 Wh battery

Post your battery info in the system profiler (especially cycle count and full charge capacity)
