Notification of new mail but nowhere to be found

Hello
yesterday I got a notification for 2 new unread messages waiting in my .mac.com inbox (with Mail.app) but I only found 1 unread message in the inbox. When I clicked and read it the count of unread messages went to zero. I only read 1 message. Is there a problem with the unread message count or did I lose one unread message?

Hello mariep.
It's hard to tell for sure, but I believe it's just that there was a problem with the unread count, which you may fix rebuilding the mailbox, i.e. select it and do Mailbox > Rebuild.

  • Mailo Notifications For New Mail In Subfolders

We are rolling out Office 365 Microsofts new cloud solution for Exchange and have been running iPhones, iPads and Windows mobiles. Amazingly good response back from useres on the Apple offers which is great. One issue we have is that some users have rules set up on their Exchange inbox where emails are diverted to certain folders accoring to their content or the sender. The iPhone doesn't seem to provide any notification of new mail in these sub folders. Has anyone come across this or even better have a solution or how to handle this?
    Thanks loads
    Grant

That's the main problem in that it needs to show the number. It seems a bit daft that Apple would include the ability for it to play a sound but not show the total number. A prime example is either if you do not have a sound set or perhaps are in a meeting and have the phone on silent. Also it is tedious to have to expand folders to find the one with the mail. If a user has a number of mailboxes as some of ours do, it is very cumbersome to have to view each account and then subfolders to find the additional mail.
With the big Microsoft vs Apple battle starting to hot up with Microsoft launching their Office 365 cloud offering for business this really is something that Apple needs to address to make sure that their iPhone/iPads stay in contention with BES and Windows Mobile etc.
The feedback we have had from Mac users when using a test of the Beta of Microsoft Office 365 with Apple devices (iPhone/iPad) is amazing and even they were happy to admit it made their lives immeasurably easier. Let's just hope Apple rise to the challenge and make these small tweaks to make the devices truly enterprise useable!
I still think Apple should make a user voting system on this site so that people can register with a set amount of votes and assign how many votes they want to a particular feature. Then the public vote would show Apple what people really want! Or let’s get Apple to organise some business forums in the UK as well as the USA so European businesses can input they thoughts on the products.

  • I have no new mails but my ipad show me that i have two

I have no new mails but my ipad shiw my that i have two. How can i fix this?

Try making sure there are no random messages that haven't been read. If there aren't try
    1. Restart the device
    2. Reset the device (Hold the power button and the Home button in at the same time)
    3. Reset your network settings (Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings)

  • How to deactivate notifications about new mail?

When I have an active mail account, I always get a notification when a new mail arrives. Can this be deactivated? I'd rather check manually at my own time, rather than having these notifications pop up several times every day.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

This depending on the devices, but for example on S60 devices, select Settings (or ctrl. panel or Tools) > Profiles > Highlight profile, for example general > personalise > Email alert tone (or mail alert tone) > Off. You can also change the alert tone.

  • Offlineimap-notify - wrapper that adds notifications for new mail

I've created my first little open source project (long overdue). It's a wrapper script that decorates OfflineIMAP's UI classes with notification sending for new mail, using Python's introspection facilities, before running offlineimap normally. See the man page for more info.

Excellent.  This hits one of those little annoyances that's always seemed to never quite be worth fixing, for me.  The only thing that it seems to be missing to me is the lack of a way to set the urgency of the notifications, which seems to be reasonably easy to fix (assuming I haven't missed anything obvious or otherwise done anything stupid):
EDIT:  There was a patch here in a codebox, but it turns out that yes, I had done something stupid and it didn't actually work.  I may or may not put a fixed version back up later.
Didn't look stupid at first glance; can't tell now. Anyway, I just pushed v0.5.1 to address this. For completeness' sake, I added a timeout setting as well.

  • Outlook 2013 client doesn't sync new mails but syncs after restarting outlook

    Hi Experts,
Here are the HW & SW.
    DC1, ADC Windows 2012
    Exchange 2013 MBX1 & MBX2 on Win2012r2
    Exchange 2013 CAS1 & CAS2 on Win2012r2
Network : EXCHANGE ON LAN and Clients using MPLS link to connect Exchange CAS (10 mbps) 100 users.
Strange issue, only for few users like 4-5 outlook, when user opens outlook gets authenticated and outlook remain cached mode. But it doesn't gets the new mails it still shows online. But the same users they get the mails on their mobile device using Active
Sync promptly without any delay and new mails shows on the OWA too. When the user restarts his outlook starts receiving new emails.
    Checked the following :
No Application error on event logs
All users are homed on same database on same server.
No throttling policy been configured and enabled except default one.
    Webmail works fine and well
    Restarting outlook syncs well
    No network changes

    Hi,
Since there is no sync synchronization issue on mobile device and OWA, it is highly possible of outlook client issue.
Make sure outlook client is the latest version.
Please disable the security AVG/Firewall, especially the mail scanner module to check whether this issue persists.
Run Outlook in Safe Mode to determine if it's 3rd-party add-ins related:
Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /safe” in the blank box, then press Enter.
Please run scanost.exe to fix the .pst file to test the result:

Please try to recreate profile to check this issue.
If this issue persists, please let me know.
    Best Regards.

  • Mail icon shows new mail but there isn't

Just on my Mac, my Mail app thinks there are 2 new mail messages, but there aren't. I don't have 2 new messages for the same account on my iPhone or iPad. It's been stuck like that for weeks.
I've tried creating a smart mailbox with all unread messages and deleting them. I've taken the account offline and back online. It's an Exchange-hosted account, and I've used the Web client to make sure there aren't any unread messages on the server.
Using Mail 6.2 (1499) and Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
    Any ideas?

Here's a screen shot of what I'm talking about. You'll see that the title bar says 0 messages, 3 unread, and then the inbox has the 3 there with nothing.
Perplexed on this one. I don't want to trash my Mail preferences, because that's drastic, but there's got to be something to reset this.
    Anyone? Anyone? Buehler?

  • Mail icon shows new mail but all mail has been read.  Won't update with phone reset.

My mail icon shows new mail (1 currently) but I have no new mail.  I have synced phone and turned off several times to no avail.

If you have reset your phone several times and does not fix , then restore your phone in itunes from your backup. Be sure that you have a recent backup with all items that you wanted saved, synced.
BEFORE, you do the restore, try deleting the mail account and reaading it and see if that fixes the issue, otherwise , then do the restore.

  • Mail thinks I have new mail, but I don't.

    Hello,
I'm having an odd issue of mail making my new mail sound whenever it checks mail; regardless of whether I actually have new mail. I tried turning off the "Play mail sounds for other actions" which had no effect. It only stopped making the sound when I changed the new mail sound to none.
    Why is it doing this?
    Powerbook G4 1.33GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.8)

    Graham,
It is the bedevilment of the issues with leftover files, that they are not immediately troublesome, but become so later, and I am seeing many who just now confronting them.
In your Sent Messages.mbox folder that you listed files for, those listed that are not needed, and likely problematic are:
    content_index 592KB
    Incoming_Mail 64KB
    IncomingTable_ofContents 4KB
    Info.plist 4KB
    tableofcontents 92KB
While the mbox of size 149MB may not be problematic, Mail 2.0 does not use it for anything, and it is a space hog, that can be deleted. Notice the similarity in size to the Messages folder, where actual message content is now stored.
In your POP folder, look also at the INBOX.mbox to look for files other than the Messages folder, and the Info.plist file.
In your xxxxx.imapmbox folders, look for files other than these two, but the likely ones to perhaps find will be any named to include cache or caches.
The files that are most likely to become troublesome, are any that were once used for indexing, such as "content_index". In some, but not all cases, the new universal index file, Envelope Index becomes corrupted, and needs to be refreshed. This may be the case for you, and we may need to remove the Envelope Index file (after all other mailbox folder cleanup, and force Mail to reindex, when it next is launched. This new indexing can take several minutes, and if you do this, wait patiently.
Your mailboxes were ready for this cleanup, and I think the new mail issue could originate from having all these unneeded files.
Ask any questions for comfort or information.

  • Mail thinks it's receiving new mail, but isn't

I tried this before and got no helpful responses, and am still having issues. When I open Mail it says it is receiving over 2,000 new messages, but doesn't actually load any new mail. It goes through the loading and everything, but nothing shows up. I tried taking the account offline and back online, as well as removing the account and readding it. I have also tried rebuilding. Nothing works! Any help?

I am having the same problem. I just bought a new MacBook Pro, I have my mail through Apple's MobileMe. Mail will run, says its downloading X of Y messages, but when it is done, there is nothing new in my inbox. Sometimes clicking into another folder and then back to Inbox reveals the new mail. Often, I have to quit mail and reactivate it, then it runs through the "Loading X of Y" again and this time the messages appear...

  • MobileMail notifications for new mail in folders?

I've noticed that mobilemail will not issue a new mail alert when mail arrives directly into a folder via server side rules. Is there a fix for this? It's incredibly frustrating now that 2.0 allows me to access my work exchange email, 90% of which is sorted by rules at the server to keep it organized. I have to manually launch mail and browse through each of about 20 folders to see if I have new messages - very close to useless.
    Any help would be appreciated!

I need to chime in on this also...
I use my Yahoo mail account on my iPhone and while I find it handy that I can access all my Yahoo mail folders, I find it absolutely ridiculous that the iPhone only checks for new mail in the INBOX -- I have to open each and every individual Yahoo mail folder in order to prompt the iPhone to check the contents of THAT folder for new messages.
Since I use Yahoo mail filters to automatically sort and file incoming messages into appropriate folders, this oversight causes a lot more issues rather than providing convenience unfortunately.

    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below will walk you through the troubleshooting steps for email on your iPad.  If you are able to send and receive from the AOL website, then the settings within the Mail app may need to be changed or updated on your iPad.

  • Email StartPoint: Process new mail only if attachment is found.

    Hi,
On each new mail my process is getting invoked. It downloads the attachment and save it. But when mail with no attachment is received it send back an error message to the sender. Also the all processed mail are getting deleted from the mail server (mail is configured on my personal domain).
So I need that process should invoked only when the attachment is found and after processing it, delete that mail. If no attachment is found then leave it as it is.
    Pls help.
    Abhinav

Email Receive Activity has an option to filter emails based on Attachment MIME type.
You can create a continuous running process which looks for emails with attachments. If email successfully retrieved, invoke the primary process, otherwise
loop back and wait for next email.
    Make sense?

  • Photo showing in bottom left corner of Camera but nowhere to be found on phone

I took a picture on my iPhone 5S (upgraded to iOS 8) and it is nowhere to be found on my phone. I took it with the front facing camera and I used the + button to take the photo. It showed the 1 counter on the screen as if I were taking a boost picture (i must have held the button down a second longer than normal) and then it went back to the camera screen like normal. I went to touch the bottom left corner of the screen where it always shows a preview of your last added photo but the photo was nowhere to be found. I tried restarting my phone, but it still was nowhere to be found except in the lower left corner as a preview to my camera roll. I tried "retracing my steps" and sometimes the same thing happened and sometimes it didn't. I opened up Image Capture on my computer and the photos are all there, but I'm wondering if there is a way to stop this from happening on my phone? Or if anyone knows where they are hiding in my phone?
