Notification sounds and alarm vibrate

How do I change the sound for notifications from third-party apps (e.g. App of the Day)? By notifications, I mean the banners on the lock screen or on the top of the screen. When I go to sounds in settings, there is no option for notification sounds (iOS 8.0.2). It only has voicemail, calendar and reminder alerts. Also, is it possible to turn off vibration for the alarm and timer?

Look in settings within the app itself. If the apps do not offer that setting within the app, you can't change the sound. Not all apps give you the option.

  • Disable sound and/or vibration while in Messages app?!

    Hi!
I would like to know is there some option in the iOS where I could disable sounds and vibration while I'm using Messages app (app is open and the display is turned ON and I can see the message I recieved). This is very annoying when I'm using iMessages and getting a message every few seconds and then my phone vibrates constantly. It is of course OK if I'm not in Messages app but when I'm already using it I don't need a notification I got a message when I can see it for myself.

I'm having the exact same problem. I get a random text message ding for no discernible reason at least oncer per day. No alerts from apps, no email, no texts, no missed calls, no voicemails. It's not changing connection types between wifi, 3G, and edge. I know that the first gen iPhones sometimes dinged in that situation. If anyone knows what's causing this I would love to hear it.
Just to be clear I'm using a perfectly normal, not jailbroken, iPhone 4 running the latest software version.
    Regards,
    John G.

  • Is it possible to silence notification sounds and have the phone still ring?

I need my phone to be capable of ringing at night, but I don't want to hear any of my notification sounds. Is there a way to set the phone to do so without adjusting every notification sound?

There is no quick and easy way to silence all alerts in iOS while allowing the phone to ring. The alarm will always sound, even if the silent switch is activated (provided the phone is not powered off entirely).
Many people have asked for a 'bedside mode' similar to that offered by other smartphones. In this state, the alarm would still sound if set, and the phone would ring for incoming calls, but no other alerts will sound.
Though it can't be done in software settings, the equivalent can easily be acheived by plugging your headphones into the phone. The alarm and ringer will still sound through the phone speaker, but all other alerts will play only through the headphones.

  • Headphone muffled but keyboard sounds and alarms are loud?

    Anyone having this issue?
The headphones (apple brand) are plugged in to the ipad2, I can turn the volume up from nothing to all bars and can progressively hear the mouse clicks/typing getting louder. I go to alarms and notification sounds etc, and they all work at full capacity with the headphones plugged in as we'll as when they are removed. But when I go to play a movie or watch YouTube videos, break videos, Netflix, the sound is barely noticeable. Is anyone having the same issue. I just noticed, was working last month, before I installed ios6. Can't seem to find a fix on here yet...please help.

Have you got notifications muted ? That will mute notifications (including games), so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, will still get sound.
If its an iPad Air 2 then notification mute and rotation lock are controlled via Control Centre : Turn on Mute and Orientation Lock on iPad Air 2 - Apple Support
If it's the first gen iPad Air then depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via Control Centre : swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen and it's the right-most of the 5 icons in the middle of it (if the icon is white then it's 'on', tap it to turn it grey and 'off'). The function that isn't on the side switch is set via Control Centre instead : About the iPad Side Switch - Apple Support

  • Notification sounds and key click come and go since upgrading to IOS 8.1.3 on iPhone 4s

Has anyone else had issues with the latest IOS update?  Since I did it last night, my key click sound and my notification sounds come and go on there own.  Even if it is not on silent.

    Hi kdbecky1,
If you are having issues with your sounds on your iPhone being inconsistent, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
Force an app to close in iOS - Apple Support
Next, I would try restarting and if needed resetting the iPhone -
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -

  • Change Default notification sound and email

I'd like to change the default alert in Calendar sound and also have it send an email. Where is the pref to set this up in Calendar v.8?

    BBN,
    1. What do you have set in iCal>Preferences>General> Add a default alarm to all new events and invitations?
    2. I am not sure why the alarms are resetting, perhaps changing the default alarm preference may help.
    ;~)

  • Pavilion dv6449us fan making grinding, rattling sound and some vibration

Its a fairly new HP laptop dv 6449us, but this thing sounds rough. I guess this is something I can't fix myself. Any suggestions out there? I'm tempted to try fixing it on my own, but there isn't a manual online at HP for such a thing. Any help?

    hprattle,
    Try cleaning it first:  http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01657439.
If the sound continues then a service/repair may be required and you should contact HP for support.

  • No email notification sound

    Hi there,
i recently received a Q10 from my new employer to follow up my e-mails and the problem is that the phone does not make any sound when receive emails the LED also not bllinking no vibrations also. all settings are fine and i am 100% sure so don't ask me about the settings pleaaaaaase.
    kindly note the following also:
    1. tried the turn off and battery removal method.
    2. checked the notification and sound settings like 100 times.
    3. restart the phone many times.
    4. the software version is :10.2.1.3062 and no update available.
    5. text message notification work fine.
    6. change the tone also many times and same problem.
    7. i live in Iraq so no service support and no warranty and such things available.
    8. asked my colleagues who carry the same model and some of them are facing same problem.
please i need a solution cause the phone is totally useless without making notifications. sorry for long message/Regards
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I know you said don't tell you it's the Settings, but it has to be. If you hear sound and/or vibration for a text message then the speaker and piezo vibrator are working. That leaves nothing but the settings. Go into Notifications, start off with Normal profile and make sure Sound is NOT off and that Vibrate is ON., move the sound level slider all the way up.
Also go to Lock Screen Settings and make sure Notifications are ON.
In HUB settings click on Display Actions and make sure Display New Message Indicator is ON
Lastly check the speakers, the one you hear from when you talk on the phone is different from the speakers that are used for music and in some cases notifications, play some music to make sure those work and then make sure you can hear on a phone call..
Check all of these, then pull the battery while the Q is turned on and wait 30 seconds and then reinstall the battery.

  • IPad making notification sound even though I disabled them all, where is it coming from?

Okay so since updating to iOS7, there is something triggering random notifications on my iPad. It's making a two note notification sound. There's no banner or badge or anything that is associated with it. I went into notification center and have literally turned off every single sound notification (but leaving the sound switch on). The iPad still makes the notification sound.
I was thinking it was coming from the OS itself, but I went and browsed the sounds under Settings->Sounds and couldn't find the one that I'm hearing (although I suppose that doesn't rule anything out).
Any ideas on where it could be coming from?

I have an iPhone 5 and an iPad Mini, but I only had the problem on the iPad Mini.  My problem was a little different than yours, but this fix may work for you.
This is what I posted in another thread:
I HAVE FIGURED OUT THE FIX FOR THIS! ... (Well it worked for me on my iPad Mini.)
I saw a post from an apple rep telling a iOS 6 user to turn the side switch on to un-mute the sounds. A no-brainier yes, but it made me wonder if the side switch may have been temporarily "confused" after updating to iOS 7 because it added the new settings screen that swipes up from the bottom of the screen. I was using my side-switch to lock the screen rotation and it was in the "off" (down) position (red visible) and none of my notifications were sounding. So I flipped it up and down a couple times which didn't solve the problem. So logically, I proceeded to what inevitably solved the problem...
Go to Settings > General / "Use Side Switch To" and select the opposite of what you are currently using. I had mine on Lock Rotation, so I selected Mute. Then flip your switch up and down slowly a couple of times to see that the confirmation on the screen is correct.  You may have to go back to settings again and select the other choice if you originally had Mute selected, I don't know because I originally had Lock Rotation in use.
Hopefully, this will fix your notification sounds (and the lock sound when you press the power button).  After using this fix, you can set the use of the side switch to your preference and still have all of your notification sounds!

  • No notifications only sound and vibration

since 2-3 days ago my phone started to vibrate and also a notification sound can be heard at random times. i have no notification in the notification drawer. i found in latest app notifications something called oma client....i forced stopped it, can't uninstall it and the notification is still there. any ideas?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OMA_Client_Provisioning
This OMA seems to be kind of a service for pushing updates or something like that OTA. Well, have you tried the repair?

  • Is there a setting that disables vibration while i am using my phone but allow my notification to continue to roll down AND enable vibration only when my phone is locked.

The problem is that I want to be able to read the notifications that roll down but the vibration is very very annoying when i hold the phone in my hands or put it on a hard surface. I am in a group convo and when i am using my phone on an app, and still wish to see what my friends send through the notification that rolls down, my phone will vibrate. And with each notification that rolls down, my phone vibrates. So when my friends spam in the group or are having a very lively conversation, my phone will vibrate non-stop and it gets annoying because it makes a buzzing sound and its very annoying when i am holding it. also, i do not wish to turn vibration off entirely because then i wont be able to be notified when my phone is locked. is there a setting for this?
if there isnt then i actually really hope apple would include an option like this in their settings. it would be incredibly helpful for me. and maybe some other people, i guess?

Tap on the screen to get the camera to autofocus.  If the image looks clear to you, but the app isn't accepting it, it's a problem with the app.  Delete it and reinstall it.  If the issue persists, contact the app developer.

  • SMS Notifications Do Not Work (no sound, just short vibration)

My notification settings for SMS and MMS messages appear to be ignored.  I have them set as an audio tone, I have the volume all the way up and I have the vibration set to 'long'.  When I get an SMS message, why do I only get a *very* short vibrate and no audio?
    I have done this:
    1) Open Messaging
    2) Touch Menu --> Settings
    3) Scroll down to Notification settings
    4) Ensure "Notifications" is checked
    5) Selected a sound in "Select ringtone" (I selected chirps)
    6) Ensure "Vibrate" is checked (description says "Also vibrate when notified")
    7) "Message alert repetition" is set to "Every 2 minutes"
    8) Ensure "Preview message" is unchecked
I never hear chirps, I never get repeat message alerts, I only get a very brief vibration.

That's odd skywayman!  Let's work together to resolve this notification issue.
Have you installed any type of 3rd party messaging or ringtone applications?  Let's test the SMS notification sounds while your device is powered up in Safe Mode http://vz.to/1aTnew1.  If the notification works correctly while in safe mode, then we know that an application is blocking the notification sound.  If you can pinpoint the problem application, just uninstall http://vz.to/19qgKl4 and retest.  If you cannot pinpoint the application, I would simply hard reset http://vz.to/177eLkN the device to start it afresh.  Keep me posted with your results.
