Notification sounds vs incoming call tones

Is it possible to turn off the incoming call ringtone, but still have new messages and new mail notifications tones be heard?
I am not supposed to get calls at work, but e-mails (through my work account) are fine and would like to hear when they are recieved. I use this as my work PDA, but do not want hear incoming calls.

Here is where I found mine: http://richardkmiller.com/702/iphone-tip-use-a-silent-ringtone-to-screen-calls-i n-your-sleep

    Hi rsample,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Your symptoms make it sound like the iPhone side switch is set to silent mode.

  • What can be wrong with my iPhone 4?  There is no sound from incoming calls, SMS and even when I play music.  I already checked that it's not muted, volume is high and not set to "vibrate mode."

This is an annoying problem for many people. Most likely your dock connector (on the bottom where you plug in your phone) is dirty or screwed up and is probably just coincidence that it happened after you updated. Some people have had success cleaning the port with a dry clean tooth brush. There is a long discussion going on at the thread I linked below. Good luck...

  • HT201401 Incoming calls do not ring on iPhone, only vibrate.  All settings are selected for ringtone to be audible, I have restarted phone, went back to factory settings, still no sound on incoming calls.

Incoming calls are not heard, only vibrate.  I have reset the phone back to factory settings and still do not get any ring tone sounds for any incoming calls.  The phone only vibrates.  I have checked all setting including volume and do not get any sounds from the phone on incoming calls.

Check the Mute / Silent Switch on the side of the phone...

  • I get no ringing sound for incoming calls

I spent an hour with a Skype tech and they can't fix it.  Ever since I upgraded, I have all the usual sound EXCEPT the most important one - the ringing of an incoming call. Does anybody else have this problem?  Were you able to fix it? Rick

Start simply. Check the mute button is not enabled, then check Settings > Sounds to be sure the volume is turned up for ring tones.

  • Periodic loss of sound on incoming calls - Please HELP!

I got a 3GS and it's started to not ring when I get incoming calls.
Sound in general works fine and it's not everytime the calls don't make a sound when I get them.
It's not on mute nor is the volume down, I've checked it every time I noticed I missed a call even when the phone was just on a table in the next room.
I tried a soft reboot (holding down sleep + home button till it restarted), that didn't work and I've tried putting in the headphones a few times in case it was something with the jack.
The phone is updated to the lastest update and this started even before I updated it.
Is there anything else I can try? Or does it need to be repaired?

Try sliding the button that is above the volume up and down buttons to see if you have it muted.

  • Droid 2 Global Issues - notif. bar and incoming calls

Ok, I've had my Droid 2 Global for about a year now, and for the most part it has been fine. However, on the latest couple of updates, some really annoying "features" have come up. On the current update, the notification bar disappears randomly. Not known cause. Also, if the notification bar disappears, when I receive and incoming call, it doesn't display the "answer call" screen, showing the contact. This makes it difficult to answer the call, especially when the screen is locked. I have to go unlock the screen, and go to a screen like I'm going to call someone, and THEN I can see who is calling and maybe answer. If it hasn't gone to VM already. This is really stupid - first and foremost, this thing is a FREAKING PHONE. I should be able to answer a call.
    Frustrated. Any ideas/help?
    Thanks,

  • How do i make a notification sound for incoming texts/messages?

    Hi.
I just got my new blackberry 8120, and i'm wondering if there is any way to make a message sound when i have an incoming message either text or email.  I've looked through the guide and looked online and no one seems to have an answer for me. Just wondering if its possible and if so how i could do it.
    Thanks so much.

You have a lot of sounds can be used, simply go to menu, profiles, scroll down to advanced, normal or which one is active, and you have the option to change the sound in each application.
If I help you with any inquire, thank you for click kudos in my post.

  • Turn off voice sound in incoming calls

today my dad called me to my cellphone and before i answer the phone i hear the song i want as a ringtone, but every few seconds of the song it stopped and a voice said dad and then the song continue and then again dad and so on till i answer it, how can i turn off that voice.
Thanks rogerwe for helping me on the other question it worked, thats the only thing i dont like from this phone N73 that you need to go through a lot of menus and find the option you need.

thanks , but i cant see any of my mp3 i have in my phone do i need to upload them to certain folder or how can i choose one so i can have it as an alarm, all i can see is this **bleep**y ones like subhop.aac ,some 3d effect.aac and those that are installed when i bought the cellphone, and this option where i can connect to the internet and download a tone. How can i use my mp3s i have uploaded to the phone

  • All of a sudden my iPhone 4 stopped giving out sound... I can change d ringtone n speaker works fine but no sound for incoming calls... No click sound... No keyboard sound...

my iPhone 4 stopped giving out sound..

On the left side of the phone above the volume + and - buttons there should be a toggle switch (silence switch) if you see orange/red that means your iPhone is in vibrate mode and will be quiet.
Switch the toggle so it shows no orange/red and that should correct the issue.
If you still get no sound after that you may want to check your bluetooth to make sure its not connected to another device (sound is being sent there) ...
If that doesn't work, stick some headphones into the headphone jack and see if you can hear the sounds from the headphones... the device may also think there is headphones plug'd in which can also be the issue
If the issue persists past that explore the option of restoring the device from the last time it did make sound and if that doesn't work you may need to contact Apple for other options
    Hope this helps!
    GL!

  • No ring sound volume on incoming call, no speakerphone

My Xperia Z3 Compact is about 6 weeks old (US-unlocked) and recently the phone quit ringing audibly when I have an incoming call. When I get a call, the screen comes on and shows that I have a call, the phone vibrates like it always does and the LED flashes bright white. But no sound, no ringtone. Actually - a very quiet ringtone but through the small phone receiver speaker (where you listen to a caller with phone to your ear). All other notifications and stuff sound out normally: SMS, email, alarms, startup sound, music all work fine. Only incoming calls have no ring volume. I have checked the volume settings and have the ringtone & notifications volume slider wide open. I have changed ringtones, adjusted every sound and volume setting on the phone to no effect.
I did a hard reset and that did not solve the problem. After hard reset I let the phone update as necessay (the phone was up to date, many Sony apps updated). I did not re-install my data and called my phone a few times after the hard reset, still no ring sound on incoming call.
I did another hard reset and did not let anything update, still no ring sound on incoming call.
Related to this is the fact that on any phone call, the speakerphone does not work. If I turn on speakerphone, the caller can hear me but I cannot hear them. If I turn off speakerphone, everything is fine (I hear the caller in the earpiece, they hear me). The external speakers do work fine, I can play music, video, etc. and it all sounds fine. I have tried all of the different ringtones and they sound fine except for when someone is calling in and I hear nothing.
As an aside, this phone has not been dropped or wet or any of those things that might have created a problem.
    Any ideas?

  • I want to set up "don't disturb" to let in incoming phone calls but also to mute sounds of incoming imessage and email. HOW for god sake?

    Hi there
I need to set up "Don't disturb" to let in incoming calls (ringtone) but to mute email and imessage notifications. Is this possible?
    Please help. Thank you.

    Yes, you can
In Settings, turn on Do Not Disturb to silence sounds from incoming calls and notifications. You can allow calls from your favorites, specific contacts, or contact groups. Enable Do Not Disturb manually or schedule a recurring time.
