Notification tray icon missing

I have a laptop.  the sound icon is missing from notification tray (bottom right).  When I right click and go into properties and click on notification tray, the sound icon is grayed out.  I am not able to click on it.  Does anyone know how to get it back?  Thanks

  • System Tray icon missing sometimes

    I have an HP printer 4100 series, Gateway computer, Vista.
    I've had two times when I booted up and the HP Printer system tray icon was not in the system tray.
    I will look at the Notification Area setup and one of the icons listed (under Past Items) is "Terminating Digital Imaging Monitor."
    However, I was still able to print normally.  If I reboot, the system tray icon will return.
    I've had the same printer/setup for over a year.  This never happened till today.  Normally the system tray icon will appear at startup.
    It may be one of Vista's quirks - I sometimes notice inconstent things about the system tray icons.
    Anyone know why this might happen?

    I am on the same os and having the same issue. I tried reloading java and found it did not help.
    Please advise.

  • Tray icon missing after 3.0 driver install?

    After installing the latest boot camp drivers, my boot camp tray icon has gone missing. Anyone else see this phenomenon? Is there any other way to access the boot camp options in Windows?
    Edit: reinstalled and the icon appears

    This is a stupid windows problem and often occurs if you install Browser based VNC software or use the Bootcamp partition within Parallels or Fusion.
    These applications(programs) create their own Special Profiles and at the same time modify the items visible in the Task Bar Tray.
    One of the victims is always the Bootcamp switcher.
    By the way whats worse is at the same time they can disable the media keys on Apples Wireless Keyboards.
    When you switch to Windows it may well boot to the wrong profiles.
    On occasion rebooting Windows may actually load the correct profile with the tray icon.(This is however random in my experience)
    Worse still if you have to restart Windows in some circumstances it will generate a further set of Profiles.
    As a starting point and not foolproof whilst in windows
    Right Click My Computer/Computer
    Click on the Advanced Tab in System Properties and the setting radio button on under user profiles and see how many profiles are set.
    Now delete any multiple and unidentifiable profiles.
    Now reboot your Mac within windows and it might just load the base Try items including the Bootcamp switcher.

    I don't always know ahead of time that I am going to WIPE and reinstall from scratch so that isn't always an option... too draconian for me to have to do an online de-activate before activating.
    Disclaimer: I work for the people that make MacDrive.
    MacDrive is designed to reactivate on the same computer provided there are not a significant number of hardware and OS changes. It's very comparable to Windows XP/Vista...if you're reinstalling the same OS on the same system, and you don't want to be bothered with uninstalling first, then the software will reactivate without any help from our support staff, or any preventative action on your end (e.g. uninstalling).
    In the event you are constantly changing operating systems (and/or hardware), and you don't want to be bothered by the self-help option of uninstalling before you wipe the computer, then you can always turn to our extremely effective and responsive support staff. We guarantee a same day response during the week (average response time is less than an hour). That level of response time ensures that even if you buy a brand new computer on the weekend...you can use the software in trial mode until we're able to assist you during the week.
    I genuinely appreciate the criticism...I just want to ensure that everyone reading this thread gets the facts.
    To the original poster, I'm very appreciative of you bringing this up. What version of the Boot Camp drivers do you have installed on your MacBook Pro? I've been trying to replicate what you're describing on my MacBook Pro (admittedly, an older model) without success thus far.

  • Icons missing after GTK upgrade

    An interesting little bug that I suppose I should mention: after upgrading my version of GTK today, I noticed that the "fullscreen" icon and the connection indicator icon are missing in Galeon. This is still the case after logging in again.
    Would this be solved if I upgraded to the newest Galeon version?
    (I was planning on doing that, actually, to compile against Firefox. I know that type-ahead find won't work yet, but I don't use it very often.)
    Edit: Wow, even more icons are missing. The notification tray icons, the buttons in Rhythmbox, and several other things have been replaced with "missing icon" symbols. Restarting the whole computer does not help. How do I fix this problem?

    Wierd ... I noticed I have 2.6.5-2 of gtk2 and noticed a few icons still missing. In gcalctool there is an icon with an x on the lower-right hand corner. VMware 5 has a bunch of those icons on the menu bar too.
    I noticed that they are fine on another arch box that I havent upgraded in a while.
    Maybe reopen the bug report or open another one.  :?

  • How can I get rid of the Firefox icon in the notifications tray? I don't mean just hiding it, I mean disabling or uninstalling it.

    It's taking up space and memory, and I don't need it. For me, it's not useful in any way.

    Strange, i never saw firefox icon in my notification tray, but to remove the icon do this:
    First you need open the Registry Editor:
    Go to Start, Execute, type "regedit":

    or see this article:
    *[http://pcsupport.about.com/od/registry/ht/open-registry-editor.htm How to open Editor Registry]
    After...
    In the follow window do this way:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify
    And in the right side of window delete two files:
    *IconStrems
    *PastIconsStream

  • [solved] Amarok 2.3.1 - missing notification area icon

    Using Gnome 2.30.0, KDE 4.4.3
    For the latest amarok-git (2.3.1-git) and now the official community package (2.3.1) in the panel notification area the amarok tray icon displays as a page with a blue question mark on it, instead of the proper round 'wolf' icon.
    I would think this may be the fault of Gnome, except the icon is restored when reverting back to amarok 2.3.0. The icon properly displays when using running a KDE session.
    Reproducible: Always
    Steps to Reproduce:
    Install amarok 2.3.1 under Arch, and open amarok under Gnome desktop environment. Notification area icon displays incorrectly as above.
    Thoughts?? Anyone else affected by this??

    Not much love from the developer, I'm afraid. I'll reopen or post another, referring to this thread.

  • AIR System Tray Icon - does it support notifications?

  • Tray Icon Notification

    Is it possible to send a notification somewhat like a system
    tray icon tooltip? Like some desktop apps, suddenly a large tooltip
    pops out of its tray icon, is this possible? I'm not talking about
    a NativeMenu, or to use the dockIcon bounce() or notifyUser() which
    seems to make the taskbar blink. Make sense?

    Yes, that can be done with NativeWindow. If you don't want to
    write all the code for this from scratch, check out

  • Sometimes Tray Icon not loaded correctly

    I am trying to make my (html/ajax) website available as a desktop application, (with little enhancements like notifications in the background etc.)  without writing any extra code. Everything works fine except the tray icon. Sometimes the tray icon is not loading correctly.
    Following is the structure of my sample air application.
    1. An html page(page1.html) i am using as my inital window.
    It creates an invisible html window and loads a new page (page2.html) as below.
            var options = new air.NativeWindowInitOptions();
            options.systemChrome = "standard";
            var windowBounds = new air.Rectangle(200,250,300,400);
            newHTMLLoader = air.HTMLLoader.createRootWindow(false, options, false, windowBounds);
            newHTMLLoader.window.mainAppWindow = window;
            newHTMLLoader.load(new air.URLRequest("page2.html"));
    and later redirecting to the website.
    2. I am using this invisible html window to control the application behavior (like sending ajax requests in the background, monitoring network, checking for updates etc.)
    page2.html contains code to load the tray icon for the application.
    Here is javascript the code in page2.html
    function BgWindow(){
            this.init = function(){
                this.loadTrayIcon();
            var iconLoadComplete = function(event){
                air.NativeApplication.nativeApplication.icon.bitmaps = [event.target.content.bitmapData];
            this.loadTrayIcon = function() {
                air.NativeApplication.nativeApplication.autoExit = true;
                var iconLoad = new air.Loader();
                if (air.NativeApplication.supportsSystemTrayIcon) {
                    iconLoad.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(air.Event.COMPLETE,iconLoadComplete);
                    iconLoad.load(new air.URLRequest("lmt16.png"));
        window.onload = function(){
            bgWindow = new BgWindow();
            bgWindow.init();
    But the problem here is, sometimes the icon is loaded correctly but sometimes its not loaded.
    What am I missing here ?
    Any help is appreciated.
    I am attaching the complete application if somebody needs to analyze it.

    Sorry. Your attachment didn't come through. It triggered an error message about a "malformed container violation." Please try to rezip it and try it again.

  • Can't mount Time Capsule on PC (white system tray icon no longer there)

    My new time capsule is working perfectly on my MacBookPro, however recently I tried to get it to work on my PC laptop. I easily got the wireless internet work on the PC, that's not a problem. I installed the airport utility on my PC and it was able to recognize it through the airport utility interface/configuring window where I could change settings, etc., just like I could on my Mac. There used to be (on my PC) this white icon in my system tray on the lower right of my screen. When I clicked on this I could type my password, as prompted, and mount to the time capsule, which I could now see in My Computer as a drive. I tested a few files by dragging them over into the drive, and it worked fine. Now, a week later the icon in the system tray has disappeared, and I can no longer see the time capsule on my PC in My Computer. I can still click on the airport utility icon in my programs and see/change settings in my time capsule from my PC, but cannot see nor access the drive from My Computer (or mount by clicking on this now missing icon). Anyone else know what I can do? Thanks in advance!

    I was just having this problem and figured out that the white system tray icon is the Airport Base Station Agent. It wasn't running for me for some reason, too, but I found it and started it back up again at C:\Program Files\AirPort\APAgent.exe.
    Here's an Apple Support article (it's a little old) I found that discusses drive mapping in windows with the Airport Base Station Agent: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1331
    Hope this helps.

  • Access Connection Tray Icon disappear

    Hi, I got a problem on a T61p model 8889-AB5 owned by my boss.  The ThinkVantage Access Connections tray icon was disappeared occasionally.  It is noticed that below registry keys were missed and I needed to add them back to get the tray icon displayed.ACTray=C:\\Program Files\\ThinkPad\\ConnectUtilities\\ACTray.exeACWLIcon="C:\\Program Files\\ThinkPad\\ConnectUtilities\\ACWLIcon.exe This T61p hardware was checked by Lenovo service center on July 2008; no problem was found and the Win XPP was reinstalled from recovery CD afterward. Does anyone encounter similar problem? Thanks, Eric

    And still no improvements in version 6.11!
    Can we expect a fix for this?

  • Gnome applet Icons Missing

    I installed a fresh arch linux on another pc.  I installed gnome and gnome-extras. There is one problem:
    The icons on the "system tray" are missing. The applets are there but the icons are not shown:
    I already rebuilt the hicolor and gnome icons (and re-logged) with no result. Am I missing something?

    Ok here is something weird I found out.
    I am using xorg without xorg.conf. Since I have a Voodoo3 card I installed the xf86-video-tdfx driver. After a xorg restart the icons are working but the mouse flickers when I move it and there are graphic bugs when restoring windows.
    So I removed the tdfx driver and reverted to the vesa driver. The mouse does not flicker anymore but the applet icons are gone.

  • X,Y position of your system tray icon

    Hi
    In my app i have a functionality by which i can minimize my desktop app to systray..On minimizing my app, an icon is created in the system tray..now is this possible for me to get the x,y position of that icon located in the system tray..i want to display notification pop up above it..with a pointer pointing the system tray icon.
    Thanks

    Just try this...
    Once you get proper character's index, use the following code,
    myTxtFld.getCharBoundaries(index); // this will return a rectangle.
    myTxtFld.getCharBoundaries(index).x; // ===========> will provide x coordinate and
    myTxtFld.getCharBoundaries(index).y; // ===========> will provide y coordinate.
    Good luck !!
