Nov 2008 Battery - now not holding charge - is this grounds for a free one

As the tile suggests I dug my receipt out and I replaced my original battery with a new one for $170 in Nov 2008. Now the battery is cutting out at various stages ( 10, 20, 30 even 50% )and not holding charge despite attempts to calibrate, reset PVRAM etc etc etc.
Is this grounds for a replacement or just the natural life of the battery ?

The purpose of the forums is to ask and answer technical questions on OS X and other Apple products. Polling is forbidden. If you want to find users with similar problems then do a forum search rather than asking. Searching the forums is always the first thing you should do before posting a question.
Just so you won't think I'm being persnickety about this please read the Terms of Use by clicking on the link on the right of this page.
But specifically you are asking if you have grounds for a part replacement. No one here can answer that question because it is up to AppleCare or the vendor to make the determination. And such determinations are done on a case by case basis. Nothing you're told here in this regard is reliable.

I upgraded to iOS 5 on my iphone 3gs now phone service (AT&T) constanly goes in and out and battery does not hold charge. Can someone help me?

It appears to be a bug in iOS5.  I have the same problem on the 3Gs and my new 4S.
    I eagerly await a patch......

  • My new Iphone's battery does not hold charge for long; do you have the same problem?

Greetings, I had a new iphone 4S -  bought March 2013, died suddenly September 2013. Iphone replaced by a new one, which seemed to work fine. Suddenly, noticed three days ago that the battery does not hold, even for one day, even with very little use. Charged battery yesterday morning, as it was dead, used phone a few times during the day, still had half batery full at bed time; this morning there was no battery at all - had discharged completely overnight doing nothing. Has anyone had this problem?
It means that I will have to travel a long way to the nearest store to have it looked at. Had already done this last September to replace a dead phone. One would have expected better quality and reliability from a Company like Apple.

Sounds like the battery needs replacing.  Bring the phone to Apple for battery diagnostics.

I have seen the batteries at BestBuy, perhaps not yours.
You can buy another same battery at another carrier, Tmobile or ATT as well.

My battery is not holding any charge so when I unhook from charger it shuts down. Any ideas?

Yeah replace the battery. It has failed as all batteries do eventually.

  • Please can anyone tell me how to stop my 4s iPhone running down on the battery (despite fitting a brand new battery) and not holding charge for more than half a day - will the new update cure this problem?

My iPhone 4s will not hold a battery charge longer than half a day even if charged all night. I am now updating to 8.1.3 - does anyone know if this will make any difference?

Thank you for your help - I had the battery replaced in a phone shop in Bournemouth and think I need to take my phone in and ask them to check the battery but I have to have an operation on Thursday this week and may be a couple of weeks before I get chance to take the phone in - thank you for your helpful advice which I very much appreciate.

  • New Battery does NOT hold Charge

I just received my new battery from the Battery Exchange Program - the battery is actually worse than my original, it is still HOT, and holds a charge for about 20 minutes - maybe 30 at the most - ?
What do I do? Does anyone else have this problem??
    thanks, Mark

My replacement battery did not even last one calibration cycle, as it never held a charge again at all.

Both of ours were replaced for a very similar issue, so it may be worth a try to give AppleCare a call.
If you already sent the recalled battery back, get a case I.D. from AppleCare for the defective replacement battery. If possible, ask someone at your local Apple store if they have any in stock instead of waiting for Apple to expidite one to you. Apple retail staff are able to expidite the exchage at the store level, but you must have a case I.D., since it is not the recalled battery they are replacing. I only suggest this route, because there is an estimated four to six week wait for replacement replacement batteries; however, it only took a little over three weeks for mine to ship.
I hope this reply helps provide some direction!

  • My macbook pro battery will not hold charge

My macbook pro battery will not charge. The laptop will only turn on after it has been plugged in to charge, and when unplugged it automatically dies. When plugged in the battery indicator is green and the top right corner of the screen says "Not charging". I left town for a week with the laptop off and I came back in town and it won't charge. What can I do to fix this?

If you are under warranty call Apple and get a case number.

  • 80GB iPod Battery Will Not Hold Charge

I have owned an 80GB iPod since September. I have had no previous problems except for it resetting on certain mono audio files while the EQ was on. Turning the EQ off fixed that.
But tonight I plugged the iPod into the power adapter to charge, came back 5 hours later and it said 'Charged', unplugged it, began using it, and within 2 min it reported a low battery and then died. I plugged it back into the power adapter and it began to charge. It charged for a few minutes then reported 'Charged', but again it died within two minutes of being unplugged and played. I can watch the battery meter drop. It works fine while plugged in though.
I restored the iPod twice, but it still does it.
Has anyone every heard of a new iPod's battery going dead?
What happened to it? Power surge? It was plugged into a surge protector.
Is there anything else I can try before I send it back to Apple?

I just spoke with them as well. They told me to try charging it from a different source for a good 4 hours then, if it holds the charge, to pick a song and play it on repeat and see if it will last around 20 hours. She said if it doesn't to visit: depot.info.apple.com/ipod and they would send me a box to send it back for a new one (mine has engraving too). She said the box would arrive in 1 business day, the test and replacement (if it's broken) would take 4 days with a few extra for personalization. So about a week. Still ***** though.

  • Battery does not hold charge

new iphone 4 battery has gone dead rapidly the last two days....not from use

    Hi Vincent,
Take a look at this thread below. It may help. This may be an issue with your AC adaptor and not the battery.

  • Battery will not hold charge?

MY phone will not hold a charge for more than a couple of hours.

    Try using it less.
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Battery will not hold charge but macbook turns on

    hello!
as of today, my macbook will not charge (it displays an (X) for the battery icon). However, when I removed the battery and placed it into another macbook, it worked just fine... even when I tried my other working macbook battery on the non-working macbook, it did not work. So we know for a fact the battery is not the issue, it has something to do with the macbook itself. it will work if you use the charger cable, but will turn off if you unplug it. any suggestions? its a late 2007 model. one idea I have is reinstalling the OS.
    thank you!

  • Battery will not hold charge (at all)

I've had my ipod Nano (2nd gen) for less than a year. After a week or two of not using it, I tried to turn it on, but the battery appeared to be completely dead. So, I charged it, and when the indicator showed that the ipod was fully charged, I disconnected it from my computer. Immediately, the screen turned off, and there was no way to turn it back on. It still operates fine if I keep it plugged into my computer. But, as soon as it loses the power source, it just dies. I've tried a full restore several times. I've tried resetting it several times. I've tried charging it on several different computers. Nothing helps.
The device is still under warranty until July, but I just found out it will cost me $50 to send it in! Or, I could go to an Apple Store, which is over an hour away.
So, let me get this straight. I buy a device with a year warranty (limited, which is painfully obvious now), which turns out to be a dud, and Apple wants more money to fix it?
After 3 ipods that all have died untimely deaths...I can honestly say I'll never buy another Apple product again.

I just had to post a followup. I decided to visit the apple store in Laval, to see if I could get the nano fixed. When I showed up at the store, I was told that I needed to make an appointment for support, and to come back the next day. I was welcomed to wait to see if there was a 'no show', in which case they would be able to help. An appointment for support? When I asked how long that might take, the response was "Well, it could be all night". Then I asked if it's normal that all 3 ipods I've purchased have died within a year. The response was "well, there is no way that we can account for how people use their ipods, and the resulting battery usage". Um, I listen to music on it...like everyone else?
The staff at that store had the opportunity to make a customer happy in that one moment, and perhaps change my opinion about Apple's product quality and support. Unfortunately, my negative opinion is now only amplified.

  • IPod Nano (first generation) battery is not holding charge

When I use my Ipod after the battery is fully charged, it loses power very quickly. It doesn't seem to be holding the charge as well as it used to. Sometimes the battery meter will suddenly turn red the after turning ipod off and on again it goes back to black.
Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?
    Thanks.

Try Restoring it in iTunes and then Resyncing and fully charging it. If this doesn't help it is time for a new battery.
