Novell Client installed report

In the requirements for bundles, there is the Novell Client Installed Yes/No option. Why is there not that option for Dynamic Groups or Reports? Or am I missing it somewhere? Any ideas how to identify machines in my inventory that are still running the Novell client (any version), without having to try to report on some specific file existence...or, is there something common to all Novell clients (v4.91+ (WinXP) & Novell Client 2 (Win7+)) I can test for?

  • About novell client install

    Hi All
my customer have some branch office in Eu & US, there are some OES File Server, he want to perform data migration to windows server (OES and Windows File Server on the same branch office), but Default NSM Engine Server on Aisa. I want to ask if I install Novell client on windows File Server...the migration-Data traffic only keep on branch office local LAN or still return to Engine Server through WAN(VPN) ?
    thanks!!

Yes, it would be best to install the Novell Client and an Agent on that
    server.

  • Automatically login zenworks without Novell client.

I want to setup a computer that will automatically login to windows and to
the ZENWorks agent (even if just to workstation) and then run the NAL as the
windows shell. Also, we did not want to have the Novell client installed on
    the machine.
I have figured out how to get the shell to work, but I can't seem to get the
Zen agent to automatically logon to the workstation. I attempted to use the
steps in TID10094960, but the zenworks agent login still comes up. I haven't
yet put the windows credentials into the registry so that it can
automatically login, do I need to do that at the same time?
We're trying to make a machine that will only allow the programs to run that
are presented by the NAL window and for the computer to login automatically
to the point where the icons are displayed.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks..

so let me see if I got this right...
If I want to get applications I need to authenticate a user. So, if the
following are set then it should work.
    1. Do not install Novell client.
    2. Create a user in NDS that I can create a local user account for. Then I
set the workstation for automatic login to windows using the a local account
with the credentials for the NDS user.
    3. Set the Zenworks agent for PASSIVE login (this is the default?) Can this
be changed somewhere if I already installed it, I read lower in the document
you posted that you need to uncheck a box in the installation, can I change
this option after the fact if I installed it wrong?
    4. Setup NAL as the shell.
This will allow the any user of the workstation to use only the available
icons and will allow me as an administrator to distribute them using the
    NAL.
    Thanks for your help

  • Removing Novell Client from Windows 7

    Hello,
We have an issue with programs running slowly on our SUSE Linux server 11.0. We set up a test machine with Windows 7 without Novell Client and the same programs run extremely fast. (They run fast on a Windows 2008 server too with or without the client.) This is great for the new test machine but I have about 20 workstations that need to have the Client removed. If we remove it through control panel (both NICI and Novell Client - whatever version is installed) the programs are still slow. However, if we do a restore to the time before the Novell client was installed, the machine is fast. Because these machines have had the Novell Client installed for months, we cannot go back to an old restore point. Is there some registry file or other file that needs to be removed or changed to make the computer like it was installed without the Novell Client? I really do not want to have to rebuild 20 computers in order to fix this. I have researched the web and forums and cannot find any information about anything else that needs to be changed when the Novell client is removed. FYI - this is the same on our few Windows XP machines with the appropriate last updated Client on them.
    Any help would be welcome!
    Susan

We have had many issues with the Novell Client / Windows 7. Here is what we have done to get to an acceptable point.
We are running OES 11SP1 fully updated up until July (Getting ready to apply more updates), we are also talking about switching from CIFS to Samba as we have been seeing some weirdness with CIFS and NSS disconnects.
OES11 SP1 - Primary File Server NSS with CIFS
OES11 SP1 - DSFW/DNS Server for Domain Authentication for the CITRIX Servers, this server also runs ZCM 11.2.2 (Also going to update this as we need windows 8 support and the ZCM Agent has some issues at this level; however ZCM has a horrible way to apply updates and is time consuming)
OES11 SP1 Squid Proxy With transparent user authentication using LDAP with SquidTrust. Also has NSS Shares
    Other servers exist as well.
We standardized on Novell Client 2 SP3 or Greater. Currently SP3 IR3 is what is in use. But prior to SP3 the client had many issues for us.
Also, We do not use Group policy with ZCM (We tried But it was painful and slow and policies would randomly just quit working / remove themselves) we reverted back to just digging in and finding the registry keys. If a key only existed in the Policy Section we put it there and do a GPUPDATE /force on login.
    Server Settings:
    Disable OPLOCKS
    Workstation Settings:
    NW Client Settings
    File Commit (Enabled)
File Cache (Disabled) - NW Client Setting
Name Services DNS / SLP Only (Default on the newer Netware Client)
    Win7 Machine Settings:
Static DNS Server - Set to the internal servers only. No external server set. The win 7 machines for some reason would use the secondary DNS Server randomly instead of the primary, never really dug in on why but disabling / removing a public DNS Server as the secondary and adding in a second internal.
MS Client For Microsoft Networks Remove, We tried changing the preferred order on the network adapters with no help. I believe the fact that we are running CIFS on the Server side the client is having issues with deciding on how to connect to the NSS Volumes when the client is installed. With the MS Client removed we see a huge improvement In the Novell client.
Libraries Disable - Registry - We redirect Documents Folders and such and these libraries are wanting to index the locations. As the Libraries consist of multiple locations.
    Offline Files Disable - Registry
    Windows Search Disable Registry (Service)
Zone Mapping - Registry Adds the servers & domain to the Trusted list for the OS (Even though it says Internet Explorer its used by other portions of the OS)
    User Access Control Registry
I have others that helped but this is the short list of changes that made major improvements.
When I have a moment I will look back and see if there are other major changes. This is just what I remember.

  • Novel Client or Novell client package request

Does anyone have a PKGBUILD for either the official novell client or the novel client 3rd party one?
    Cheers!

    Is the Novell Client Installed?
Yes the novell client is installed and connected to the eDirectory. It says that login is successful, but I'm forced to log in locally unless I choose the option:
"Change your Windows password to match your Novell password after a successful login"
which I don't want to do.
If you provide local credentials when prompted, does ZCM show you as
    logged on?
When I log in locally and i check the Zenworks Adaptive Agent that is running on the server, it shows in the top right of the window "Logged in As: Not logged In"
This a fresh install of Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. There are no roles installed. No settings/configurations adjusted just the defaults settings. The only two applications installed and running are the Novell client and the ZENworks Adaptive Agent.
There is a DLU policy assigned to this server. It is configured with 'Remote Desktop Users+' , 'Users+' and a custom user group that is relevant for where I work.
I have also tried a DLU with just 'Administrators+' with no luck either.
    Thanks for your input.

  • Novell Client 2 upgrade fails to install NICI (error 1603)

I have configured the automatic update agent to specifically use Administrator Privileges according to the documentation: http://www.novell.com/documentation/...ient_admin.pdf
When I run the update from "Novell Services" in system tray as a normal user the update completes with errors: fails to install NICI (error 1603).
When I do the exact same thing as an admin, everything works fine.
I'm am trying to update Novell Client 2 SP 1 (IR7) to Novell Client 2 SP 2 (IR2) on all of our workstations.
And I am seeing the exact same error when trying to upgrade:
    Novell Client 2 SP 1 (IR7) to Novell Client 2 SP 2
    Novell Client 2 SP 1 (IR7) to Novell Client 2 SP 2 (IR1)
What is going on here, is the update agent broken or am I doing something wrong?
I don't want all of my users getting errors when their Novell Client gets updated.

I think this has something to do with the MSI-setup (NICI_wx64.msi) not being able to find certain keys in the registry for some reason
Recently we had problem with an MSI-based Java-installation running with admin-privileges where it would fail if "Folder Redirection" was enabled. We had set My Documents to point to H:\ which was mapped via Novell as the home folder.
the registry settings for that are found under: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]. This however is NOT the problem here so the root cause for the error is still unclear to me.
Indeed, but remember we are troubleshooting the client here- it may be possible that there was some corruption in the first failed update. So thus removing any components and with a clean install of the Novell client, to try the update process again to ascertain were exactly the process may have failed by examining any logs and/or dumps.

I have installed the agent 10 or 15 times and one installation has failed, no error appeared during the installation but I am having inconsistent issues with my ethernet card not working here and there. We rebooted and can log into Novell client but the login prompt did not appear for ESM client or the icon was not in the systray. Everything seems to work, besides at times (a couple times today) it terminates his ethernet card/connection. I would re-image his computer but he has several applications and it would take several hours, so I am hoping someone has an idea to fix this issue. So I was trying to figure out why he did not get the prompt to login and why it's not in the systray and it appears to not have completed the install? I checked the add/remove programs, its not listed within their, I also checked the registry and found nothing for endpoint within their, but the files are within c:\program files\novell\zenworks endpoint security.
I have also tried uninstalling it but that fails due to it "not being installed", and it will not reinstall over itself either.
I did notice that stuninstdrv.exe is running in task manager. Any help would be great...

If you are searching the registry, check for the "Senforce" string. It should be at HKLM\Software\Senforce
Try running the install program for the ZSC with the following command line:
    setup.exe /V"STUNINSTALL=1"
If you've specified an uninstall password, try this one instead:
setup.exe /V"STUNINSTALL=1 STUIP=password"" (please note the double quote at the end)
Let me know if that helped you.

  • Installing Novell Client fails due to 'untrusted signer'

I am trying to update Novell Client on our Windows 7 workstations, using a Zenworks bundle. This method has worked in the past: copy the installation files to c:\temp\zeninstall\clnt2sp3ir5 (including appropriately modified NovellClientProperties.txt and install.ini) and then just launch "setup.exe /ncpf" as secure system user.
This time I noticed that the new client was only partially installed. When viewing Novell Client properties it shows the new version, however, some files are definitely from the previous client version (for example C:\Windows\System32\lgnwnt32.dll).
I dug up c:\windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log and it seems that installation was aborted due to "unsigned driver package":
    Code:

If I run the installation manually, I am prompted at one point about unsigned driver and whether I want to install it. If I answer "yes", the installation is successful.
Looking at Windows' certificate store on our computers, I see under "Trusted Publishers" a certificate issued to Novell, Inc by "Verisign Class 3 Code Signing 2009-2 CA", but that certificate expired on 27.04.2013.
How can I obtain and deploy the certificate that would allow the silent installation of Novell Client 2 SP3 IR5 to proceed? Or am I going about this in an entirely wrong way?

You need to install the newest client (that have a never certificate) on a device and then export it from that machine, after that you import it on the devices you want to install the client before running setup.exe.

  • Novell client for linux - scripted install and configure

the novell client is included in SLED11 SP1
the configuration files are in /etc/opt/novell/ncl (esp login.conf)
I want to script the configuration of the novell-client. Some of the things the interface yast - Novell client does, is:
    modify /etc/pam.d/gdm
    create /lib/security/pam_ncl_autologin.so

according to Novell Documentation there should be a make_novell-client-conf_rpm Bash script but i cant find it in any of the recent clients (download) nor on the SLED installation.

    sed -i "s/Default_Context=.*/Default_Context=$1/" /etc/opt/novell/ncl/login.conf
    fi
So far this is working well.
The novell login needs to be run once, and on the advanced tab, have the session saved. This then auto runs afterwards for each logon.
    as a troubleshooting tool, I :
    Code:
    cp /etc/etc.1
    rsync -avP etc* my-pc:/tmp/
i can then use krusader to compare files (on my-pc), but most importantly, after doing something (eg yast ldap). rerun the rsync line and and it will tell exactly which file(s) changed, so you know which ones to check/keep/alter/etc
    hope this helps.

  • Install Novell Client and ZFD client question

Currently I am doing an unattended install of the Novell client and then a
login script install of the ZFD client. Is there a way to install the novell
client and then kick off the install of the ZFD client before rebooting? Or
would this cause more trouble then its worth?
    Thanks for the help.

  • Latest Novell Client on Windows 7 PCs fixes Office delays

At a client site with Windows 7 (both 32-bit & 64-bit) workstations running older Novell Client 2, Office 2007 & 2010 was experiencing delays in navigating the file/open dialog boxes. Sometimes the presentation of the folders and files would be quick, but frequently there was a 10 to 45 second delay at displaying the folders and their contents. This problem came on suddenly about early March 2015 (about three weeks ago for this post). I believe some Windows Update triggered the problem. It was affecting Windows 7 clients with a mix of Client 2 SP2 and Client 2 SP3.
I installed the Novell Client 2 SP3 for Windows (IR10a) on the affected PCs and the users report the problem has gone away the very next day.
The site is running a Classic Netware server 6.5.8.

  • Novell Client for Linux 2 beta & VMWare - bridged only?

OpenSUSE 11.1 with Novell Client for Linux 2.0 SP2 beta.
OpenSUSE is installed as a VMWare Workstation guest using NAT. When attempting to use contextless login, the Novell Client hangs. If you disable contextless login and then browse to the right context, you can login OK.
If you change the virtual NIC from NAT to Bridged, contextless login works fine. If at all possible, we need to use Bridged instead of NAT (long story).
Any idea what could be the problem? From what I can tell, SLP, DA, etc are set correctly, but I could be wrong.
    Thanks.

Use NAT only if you need NAT - otherwise use bridged.
    Thorsten
I was afraid that someone was goign to say something like that :)
We use port security hardware on our network, which will disable a port on the switch if it detects multiple MAC addresses on the same port. A virtual machine's bridged networking sets port security off and disables the port, so we have had to resort to NAT for all virtual machines. We can ask for exceptions to be made for a subset of our lab computers, but that is not an ideal solution.
Not only is that extra overhead for us to manage these exceptions, but we will not be able to realize our long-term goal of providing the virtual machine to our students to use on their personal notebooks since we cannot provide them port security exceptions.
I am still having problems grasping the reason that a contextless lookup (via LDAP, I assume) would misbehave while coming from a NATted connection but a bridged connection works fine on the exact same virtual machine. Shouldn't the communication between the VM and the LDAP server work properly either way??

  • Novell Client 2.0 SP1(IR6) - TID 7008266 - Service/eDir Auth

    Shaun et. al.,
I like what I'm seeing in the Novell Client 2.0 SP1 (IR6) release notes.
Tree or Server Not Found on login immediately after powerup is supposedly fixed with this release (a big problem with us).
Can you confirm that TID 7008266 is part of Novell's solution to the issues posed by installing as a Dynamic Administrator / System Account?
    (mapping drives, etc).
    pitcherj

Well, I think the efforts are completely disconnected.
The Client2 Efforts are nothing to do with ZCM.
I'm aware of the Interactive Services Detection defect and this would
not relate to that in any way. Nor would the Dynamic Administrator
inherit any rights defined by the Client2 Feature.
In regards to the SYSTEM process, it may but I have not tested nor do I
believe anyone in the ZENworks group has done so. However, I think it
would stand a decent chance of working. Of course it would require the
use of a UNC Path, and not drive letters.

  • Windows 7 with MDT - Novell Client / Zen Agent?

Been creating my Windows 7 reference image using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT - pretty cool). I'm wondering if any of you do the same, and if you do, do you include the Novell Client in the image? what about the zenworks agent? If so, what techniques are you using to install.. etc.
    Thanks!

You can use this during your sysprep process that way it does not matter if it is installed or not.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 - "Site - Client information" reports contain no data

    Hi,
I'm running CM 2012 R2 and have a lot of clients installed. In management console, the clients are active, but Site - Client Information reports contain no data. The other reports, for example, Hardware - Processor etc., show data.
    What is wrong?

Do you have a Fallback status point enabled and defined? if not then most of these report will not work.
However Count of Client for each site should work.
