Novell Messenger vs GroupWise Messenger

I have GroupWise Messenger 2.0.2 but the Netware NLM says it is Novell Messenger 2.0.2
The Clients ALL say GroupWise Messenger 2.0.2 HP
Is there an advantage to Update to "Novel Messenger 2.1" ? which I assume is the Latest version ?
Should I upgrade if all is OK?

The 2.2.2 version is actually the latest, which you can find here : NOVELL: Downloads - Novell Messenger 2.2.2 Full Install - Windows/NLM English and Multilingual
There are some new features in there but also security fixes. See the "whats New" page in the 2.2 online docs for details : https://www.novell.com/documentation...a/bwsh2z4.html

Have a site that migrating their GroupWise to new servers. On one of their current GW servers their also running Novell Messenger 2.2.1 on it and want that migrated over as well. Trying to find material on how to migrate it over. The new servers will keep the ip address of the current box as well. It appears that all we will have to do is install it on new box, since no setting in edirectory will change, but wanted to make sure.

It's pretty easy to just "add" the Linux server as a new instance. If you are
doing archiving though, that's what you would need to move.

  • Area for Novell Messenger?

Are there plans to have an area for Novell Messenger in the future? Not just here, really, but also on the website?

    Hey boblmartens:
    >Basically, broken out as its own product like Vibe is. Not buried
    >within GroupWise's areas.
The problem with that is it isn't a stand alone product. There are
many products which have sub products. OES, as an example, has
    multiple sub products.
What we've decided to do here in the forums (and it's not just a
corporate decision, the Knoweldge Partners helped with the decision
making) is to have a layout of main products. Products that stand
alone on the product list, and to position each sub product within the
parent product. Vibe is a main, stand alone product. Messenger isn't.
I understand what you're looking for and I can't disagree, but if we
put ALL the sub products out on the main product list for the forums,
it would make it harder for everyone to find what they're looking for.
What I should do, however, is make a link under the Vibe forums to the
messenger forum as well as the existing one under GroupWise.

  • GWIM 2.0.4 Upgrade Path - Novell Messenger

Is there an upgrade path from GWIM to Novell Messenger. Perusing the documentation I do not see any specifics.
    I currently run GWIM 2.4 on SLES10-OES2.
Can I simply copy over the new agents and update the Clients or is Novell Messenger an entirely new product?

I upgraded from 2.0.4 to 2.1 and I just extended the schema and installed the agents. I see that 2.2 was posted yesterday and I hope I can simply do the same.

  • Running 2 Versions of Novell Messenger Side by Side

We are attempting to run Messenger 2.2 (Production) and Messenger 3.0 (Development) Side by side, so that we can test the new version, without removing the test group's ability to talk to the users on our current production messenger server. I thought that creating a virtual app for 3.0 would be a good solution, as we have used virtualization to run applications side by side in the past.
This does not appear to work however. I have tried doing this with one version installed, and one virtualized, and with both virtualized, but the result is the same: Whatever version is run first becomes the functioning version. Attempting to run the second version just brings the other version up. It would seem that they are sharing some protocol..
Is there a solution for this? Has anyone had two versions of messenger running together?
    Thanks

You can run the two clients, connecting to two different servers, both on 8300.
Thanks for the windows class isolation tip...forgot about this, and that's exactly what I needed.

  • Messenger 3.0 - Windows Client: Window Selection/Focus

So we've been testing the Novell Messenger 3.0 client on Windows (With GroupWise 2014 fully patched) for less than 24 hours. So far we like what we see. No crashes, new features are working nicely (including the integration with the GroupWise client). However there is one nagging little issue we have not quite resolved. Whenever we have another application's window open, like GroupWise, and to continue with the example if we are say typing an email message, the focus can switch from the active message in GroupWise to the Messenger Contact list window. Even if we close the Messenger Contact window, it will open back up in about 60 seconds or so, and the selected window changes to the Contact list in about the same amount of time. It does not seem to happen nearly as often if the other (non-Messenger) window is maximized, but most of our users are on large 24" screens and rarely maximize anything anymore. It's a little frustrating that we can't nail this down. Our Help Desk has seen the issue on Windows XP SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows 7 Pro x64 and Windows 8 Pro x64.
Anyone else testing the new client and seeing this behavior?

UPDATE: FWIW, after more testing, a reboot of the affected workstations appears to have corrected the issue on most platforms. In all cases above, we did not reboot after installing and configuring Messenger and Novell GroupWise 2014 Clients. We're going to mark the issue as being resolved here and start moving it into production. ;-)

  • Monitor GW Messenger

On GW Monitor v12, I can't seem to get GW Messenger 2.0.2 to work correctly.
If I use the method of adding by selecting Preferences, Add Agent.
If I add it in the section Add Agent, after i add the info and click Add, nothing happens.
If I add it to the Add from Machine the Monitor see's the NMMA and NMAA
but displays as Unknown status. Details show the port as Port 0. and I cannot edit it to be 8300.
If I add it via Add a Network or Add a Novell Messenger System, add details and click Add button, nothing happens.
If I manually add, is the proper file to edit /opt/novell/groupwise/agents/share/monitor.xml ??

  • Messenger road map

I saw that Novell Messenger is on the Novell's road map to have a new release in 2014.
    http://www.novell.com/products/groupwise/road map/
I were wondering if anyone had any further information on Messenger, such as a realistic time frame for the release in 2014. Also if you had any documentation (white paper) on the new product. We are interested in the File Transfer feature of the new Messenger. Will file transfer be built into the client? How to update clients if needed?
Our University really wants to have file transfer feature built into a IM system. They are considering MS Lync also. I would like to stick with Novell Messenger, which we are currently using.
    Any info would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    John

I see that in the latest Novell Newsletter received today they write under

  • Autologin to Messenger

I recently implemented a Novell Messenger 2.2.2 system, which has been very well received. However, some of our directors would like a bigger takeup on usage of the system, roughly around 15% of users currently login on a daily basis. I know that you can set in GW to auto start Messenger when GW starts and also you can set it to start when Windows starts (or we could through the ZCM app), but I was wondering if anyone knows of a way of forcing a user to be actually automatically logged into Messenger when they login to their PC or GW??
    Thanks
    Mark.

    Hi Laura,
I use the Remember Password option myself, but what I'm looking for is a way of having no user input whatsoever ie: every user is automatically logged into Messenger upon their next login to their PC, irrespective of whether they've logged into Messenger previously. There's no way of doing this through the standard admin options in C1 for GW or Messenger, I was just hoping someone had found a relatively easy way to accomplish it.
    Thanks
    Mark.

  • GW Messenger Certs

I am upgrading my messenger 2.1 to 2.2. I also will be creating a new Certificate Authority and new certs since our CA will expire in a couple of months. I need to create 2 certs for our Messenger.

I still have not found how to create the second cert for ldapssl. Our current strtup.ma has the lines listed below for the cert and is working fine, but like I said it will be expiring soon. Does anyone have
Instructions on how to create the cert for the /ldapsslkey?

  • Messenger 3.0: Server requirements - OES2 SLES 10?

    Hello,
I'm certain that I know the answer based on the system requirements in the install guide but I am not looking forward to the result if I am correct.
Will Novell Messenger 3.0 not run on an OES 2 server with SLES 10 that is fully patched? I'd like to upgrade from 2.2 but I'm not looking forward to the process of having to do a migration from 32-bit OES2 to 64-bit OES 11 to upgrade to Messenger 3.0. The unfortunate truth is that we may be directed to retire our Messenger soon as the Administration has directed the deployment of Cisco Jabber. I was hoping to show users 3.0 but having to invest too much time into it may not be worth the effort.
Even though I might not like the answer I will appreciate it. 8 )

And that is the only way to handle internet services anymore. I aggree
everything should use dns now. Makes life so much easier. Its easy to update
a dns server and than reload with changes. takes minutes for the entire
    process.
Agreed, when we first deployed this many moons ago we didn't think it was going to be popular enough to stay around. The techs all deployed directly to the IP.
I'm at a juncture with jabber where those that like Messenger would likely enjoy 3.0 but upgrading to OES11(64bit) via migration from the OES2(32bit) server and then having he technicians redeploy the 3.0 client won't likely happen.
