Novell Vibe. Bad Idea

Hello.
My first idea is Novell add the capabilities of Novell Pulse and Novell Teaming on a new product named Novell Vibe. Guau, what pretty cool product i have with the capabilities of Teaming and the capabilites of Pulse
But two days ago, i saw y the have DIFFERENT products for the same PRODUCT NAME. They are causing a lot of confusion on my hand.
I Think its a BAD idea to put two different products with different funcionalitys with the same name.
The idea of sell the product on Cloud or OnPremise its a choice of the client, or the manner of sales a product. But to get two differentes products with the same name its a BAD idea.
If you want to offer one product , on the cloud or on promise, fantastic but, you can not putt a name with a different funcionality because you are adding confusion on what do you need and how do you get.
I Am seeking a forum for vibe, but i don t see any .

After installation, I start the Firefox to access http://localhost and it has redirect to http://localhost:8080/ssf/a/ return HTTP Status 404 error

Installing Vibe "just out of the box" will most probably not work, as prerequisites need to be configured/set before starting the Vibe install (also have a look at the online documentation: Novell Documentation )
As for my previous questions:
Which OS (vendor/version, service pack level, arch [32/64bit]) have you installed Vibe on?
Which Java JDK version are you using, and how have you configured it?

Is it a bad idea to use Time Capsule to access my iTunes music?

I'm thinking about putting all of my music on my time capsule and making iTunes access it through that.
Is this a bad idea for any reason? I'm thinking that there could be a few seconds of delay when playing a song or something, which I don't really mind.
The other thing I thought is that this could be bad because if my Time Capsule fails, then I lose my music, whereas if I store my iTunes music folder on my computer, it will be backed up by Time Machine, and therefore be in 2 safe locations instead of 1.
Anybody have any thoughts/suggestions?

assuming you didn't/don't use photostream I need a couple things cleared up first... did you back up your phone before updating to iOS 6 and if you did, was it on a PC or Mac?

Briansyddal - you might be able to manage your phone without a PC, but many of us can't, especially those of us with large iTunes libraries. How do you propose I manage my 250GB of music using only a phone? Maybe I could go out and buy 10 iPhones and spread my library out among them!
Catz537 - I have the same problem as you and I've spent hours on the web trying to find a solution to it. It was a problem with iOS 7 and 8.1.1 doesn't fix it. The the only advice from Apple is completely useless because it requires you, effectively, to delete and recreate your iTunes library and lose all your metadata, album art, notes etc and there's also no guarantee it will work. I wish I could be more help (even more - I wish Apple could be more help) - I updated to 8.1.1 at 1400 today. At 2200 I'm still "waiting for changes to be applied" for a measly 16GB of music transfer.

Thanks for your reply. I am trying a home network to see if I can cut down my encoding time and increase my capacity on existing equipment. What I have is outlined in "other details" below. Because of the limitations, I am putting highest priority on trying to find out what has been causing problems with my real time mp2 transcoder nor recoginizing some Quicktime files and consider the Qmaster distributed processing for batch processing files for web streaming. For now, thtis will have to do.
I see the sense of having a dedicated server for the source footage. But I need to do things peer to peer. I use to oversee a WinNT server years back. Its been awhile. Do you would log into each of your G5 quads as the same domain user (or Mac OSX server equivalent)? Is one of your G4's (not the server) the controller? Is the same machine both controller and client?
For the referenced movie I tried, it took many many hours --at least several times longer than if I did the job on a single machine. However, that was when I only had a cluster of two. I might try again with three.

MBPR w/Hard Case = Good or Bad Idea?

I am the happy owner of a new MBPr 15" and like many other owners am keen on protecting my investment. The first thing that came to mind was to outfit it with a hard case and being a detail guy I researched the topic online. Turns out many are saying that a hard case is NOT a good idea for the following two good reasons:
extra weight on the screen wears down the hinges which can lead to a very expensive screen replacement.
overheating/heating issues even with hard cases that have cutouts for vents that can cause permanent damaged to the battery and internal components.
Apple sells the hard cases in their stores and it seems that they are divided on the answer with some "Genius" bar employees saying hard cases are not good and others suggesting them to protect your MacBook Pro. Hard case companies are of course saying that their products are safe to use (the contrary would seriously jeopardize the sale of their product). I have asked Apple and leading case/accessory maker Moshi to comment on this issue and will post their replies in this thread.
My goal is to pool the statements, experiences and opinions on the subject to make it definitely clear once and for all if hard cases are indeed a bad idea to protect your Retina MacBook Pro. Do you have anything to say or share?

The general rule of thumb is that sample-instrument samples should be stored on a separate drive. This is particularly crucial if you're streaming samples from disk (EXS with "virtual memory" on, or DFD (direct from disk) as found in other sample-based plugs).
And you'll want to record audio on a separate drive as well, never on your system drive (except in a pinch) if you can help it.
For a laptop, the ideal system would be to have separate external drives for audio recording and samples. If you're working on a tower/desktop model, these additional drives can be exclusively external drives or a combination of internal and external drives.
My system:
• Lacie 250G (video playback) FW400
• Glyph 250G (sample storage #1) FW400
• OWC 350G (sample storage #2) eSATA (via eSATA PCI-e card)
• Maxtor 500G drive (audio recording/project drive) -- internal
Works very nicely!

Sharing /boot. Good or Bad idea?

Hi all,
If I want to install 2 distributions on one drive, I know I can share the swap partition. What about the /boot partition? My personal view so far, is that sharing a /boot partition is a bad idea, as overwritting can occur.
Any ideas/solutions on this? I understand that the bootloader must be installed only once (duh!) and that it should be configured to contain the 2 entries. My main concern is just how safe sharing /boot is?

1 bootable partition, old old old wives tale nowadays.
Your system boots, brings up the MBR, from that you could pass onto a bootloader on any partition or boot linux with a root fs on any partition.
you could have a bootloader on your mbr that passes onto another bootloader on hda1, which passes onto another grub/lilo on hda5 which passes to another one on hda6, etc etc. and any of them can boot a linux with a root partition on any partition.

so iphitus, why do we have to make the partition where /boot is on "Active" during installation? Is this just to temporarily be able to read the kernel-image? I'm confused on this still...

Is a HashMap of HashMaps a bad idea?

Hi,
I have a data file to parse through, and when storing the elements of the file, it seems convenient for me to make a HashMap that has a String for a key and a HashMap as a value. Is this a bad idea? I can mess around with ArrayLists and also succeed, but it is not as straightforward as this HashMap idea.

my data is kind of structured like this:
every node has associated neighbors. there are properties for each neighbor. assume that each node has X neighbors. then for the inner HashMap, there would be X entries. the key would be the neighbor, and the value would be the property.
now, assume that there are Y nodes represented in the file. then there will be Y of these inner HashMaps. so I create the outer HashMap. the key is the node's name and the value is the inner HashMap described above.
my concern is that this may be wasteful to have all these HashMaps?

Exchange 2013 server DMZ..... Bad idea!

Hello and good day to all.
I am doing an exchange 2013 lab (Novice), and in doing my research, I found that placing your server in a DMZ is a very bad idea.... Can so one please explain? and what would be the best practices in insuring that your exchange server is not attacked by
any malicious user out there.

unlike Exchange2003 all other versions higher than Exchange2003 doesn't support DMZ due to tight integration with Active Directory. Only you can install Edge servers in DMZ.
Few ports are opened e.g 443,80 and 25
110 and 143 if using IMAP and POP (Assuming your have a firewall).

Is it my imagination, or is this a bad idea? NTFS external as a Mac drive

I've always heard NTFS and Mac's didn't get along too well.
Today I found out that Seagate is selling NTFS drives as "Mac" drives. Here's a link to their spec sheet:

Am I crazy or does that sound like a really bad idea.
I keep reading about all the "problems" with external drives and Mavericks and everyone is blaming the OS,which now has me wonderiing just exactly what other stunts some of these drive makera are pulling.
Better yet, why can't Seagate format the drive in an HFS format and sell it like that. IMHO this almost makes no sense!

Mac OS X can read NTFS drives, but cannot write to them without third-party drivers. So unless for some reason you need the drive as NTFS for use with Windows systems, in which case I'd recommend ExFAT rather than NTFS, then yes, it's a bad idea. If you get a drive formatted as NTFS and you will use it only with a Mac, just reformat it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
As to why Seagate does that, I'm sure it's because they sell far more aftermarket drives to Windows users than they do to Mac users, so they choose the format that will suit the majority of their customers.

My bank is offering to increase my credit limit on 2 credit cards.I have an excellent credit score, and already have more than enough credit limit available on my credit cards.I know that a higher limit would make for a better credit score when there is some debt on the cards.HOWEVER - What I'd like to know:Is it ever a bad idea to accept a credit limit increase offer from a bank / credit card issuer?Also - Can a too high of a credit limit affect ones ability to get a mortgage or other loans? Thanks!Depends how much debt we're talking about, 1% is still basically 1% even increasing your aggregate CL massively. Doesn't matter for FICO if your balances aren't there, might matter for Vantage Score if you care about such things. As for a bad idea, no not really unless some future lender figures you're overextended. Personally I don't limit chase just to limit chase, there are certain cards I want a high limit on (travel card, default spend card, and balance carrying cards to be explicit), and others such as my Freedom at 1K I couldn't care less what it was as I only use it for 5% rewards and it'd be rare for me to get a >1K purchase other than maybe Amazon during the holidays. Limits are irrelevant for mortgages and most other loans, the key there is your FICO score and your DTI ratio, and there the minimum payment amount counts, not the potential maximum. FWIW in the current market there's people with 4-5X their income in card limits on this forum, that may not be a fantastic idea for most people, but current market doesn't really matter and as such I'd probably accept them personally. There are some people who chase credit card signup bonuses, and for those, limiting their current amount of available credit might sway an underwriting decision in their direction, and as such they might wish to decline, I just haven't ever done that... yet at least .

It's a bad idea. It *ought* to recover OK, but there are too many cases where it hasn't to be safe assuming that it will.
If, as Changren Yong says, you have a good backup, you always have the safety net of a restore, but it's a silly thing to do,
My advice when doing software updates is to download separately then update (you're always offered an option to download only). You can do what you like during the download, which is always the ling part of the process for me. The update usually (for me) only takes about 5 minutes.
One further point - in case you didn't know, you can initiate a backup by right-clicking the phone in iTunes and choosing Backup from the drop-down. That should always be part of your update process

Bad Idea: Making default behavior of "built in mouse wheel support" set to on key focus

This is just a little rant....
I love new features in Labview, but setting them to be on automatically when they can generate unexpect behaviour is really a bad idea. We recently moved from 2012 to 2013. Suddenly, I have users saying "values are changing and I don't know why". Turns out they were changing a value in a numeric, then attempting to scroll away. Why on earth would NI make this the default behavior??? Luckly for us the value change wasn't too bad but I could think of a few places that a sudden, unplanned change in a numeric could have ruined an experiment.
Off to do alot of work to undo this....

People just love to tell you how you should be doing something, and not focusing on the topic of the thread. If everyone is going to get stuck on the "UI's should not have scroll bars" soap box, see the attached screen shot. This problem arose from a settings pop-up dialog. I could have used tabs, but in this case it makes more sense for the users to move top to bottom in a linear fashion through the process they are setting up.
My point in all this is why would NI make this the default behavior? I like the feature, but it should have been something that a designer has to actively turn on.

Storing files on top level a bad idea?

Hi all,
I was wondering if there is any problem with storing files on the top level of my Mac, the level that has the Applications, System, Library and Users folders. I know some apps will have issues if they or their components are installed here, but is this generally a bad idea?

No, but some backup software programs may not see them if they're put there. If you have more than one user account on the computer, the other accounts may not be able to save changes to them.
