Novice to Stepper Motor --- Need help wiring

I recently purchased a stepper motor from Digi-key, and I have underestimated the wiring requirements for the motor. Silly me thought it would be a simple two wire, power + - installation.
The motor is from Digi-Key part number 403-1017-ND.
The motor is made by Danahar Motion (www.portescap.com) part number 55M048D2U.
I have found the wiring scematic for the motor, but it is a just a table of on/off configurations for 4 of the six wires.
I had wanted to use this motor to do 70 steps at 70Hz. That 70Hz signal would be send by a DIO channel.
I have no knowlegde of stepper motors.
What I am looking for is some info on stepper motors. Basic information, where to look, what to read up on. Unless someone knows exactly what I need to do, I would prefer to learn about it my self. So if someone knows of a good online or text referance that would be great.

Here is a link to a tutorial on stepper motors. It seems to cover them fairly well.
You might also just google:
stepper motor tutorial
stepper motor basics
stepper motor class
I don't really know of a specific source right now, but these queries should get you something.
Hope that this helps,
Bob

  • Need help: wired ports cycling (no, 10M, 100M)...

I ahve the WRTP54G purchased as part of a Vonage package. Has been working great for last 7 months. Just recently, I had an issue with a laptop wired connection, where all of the 4 wired ports cycle about 2-3 seconds through no connect, 10M, 100M. I've tried the laptop & CAT-5 (short) cable on another router and it works fine. Also, I have no problems with the wireless access port from another laptop. ANsd, no issues with the Vonage phone port. I've tried power down as well as the reset button and no change. Accessing the admin page, I don't see anything related to ENET port changes/configs to try. Anyone seen this and have any suggestions? Last resort I'll get a replacement (does anyone know the warranty period?) Thanks!

Acabanave Thanks for the suggestion, tried a different computer, same results. I'll check on the firmware. When I looked into this before, it was at the latest version. Since this is a Vonage-based router, I don't believe I have access for firmware updates without them pushing it. I'll bet I have "bum" HW for these ports (I was trying to remember if we had any t-storms in the area before it went out, but I don't think so...I lost a previous Linksys box due to lightning. I have a heavy-duty surge suppressor on the cable and power lines...but you never know about mother nature :-) Guess I need to check the warranty period on the box. I've had it since August with no issues until now.

  • Novice CS5 Dreamweaver User Needs Help!

I have used Dreamweaber MX 2004 to a limited extent to build some very basic web sites.  I have just upgraded to CS5 and come across the AP Elements.
If I build a page using tables then when I display the results in the browser the image (table) is always in the middle of the screen and adjusts accordingly when the browser window size is changed.  If I build build a page using an AP element the this is always fixed in position on the screen and rolls off the edge if the browser window is made smaller.  Is there a way os getting the AP element to react the same way as a table.  Perhaps I'm using the AP elements in the wrong context?
    Thanks

You are asking two different questions here.
For question 1: Please stick to the original thread. You've already received numerous responses. If they are not adequate, please indicate what is not adequate in that thread, rather than making people rehash the same answers.
For question 2: This makes no sense. What script file are you talking about, and why would you want to store it "like a labview (sic) file"?

Frustrated: Novice Illustrator User Needs HELP
    Hello All
I am a novice user of Illustrator [after you read my question it will probably be obvious] running Illustrator 14.0.0 (CS4) - on a MAC iMac running 10.4.11.  I am a small business owner and have to wear many hats and so I am forced to be my graphic designer by default - ha ha
PROBLEM - If I make a box using the RECTANGLE TOOL... The box should have a point at each Corner and the Middle of the box, as well as, in the Middle of each Side, and middle of Top and Bottom for a total of 9 anchor points...  but it only has 5... missing the 4 anchor points in the Middle of each Side, and middle of Top and Bottom. It is the same on Text Boxes too..  I can NOT find a setting to change this.... More, when running Illustrator on my MAC Laptop, It has all 9 anchors on the box...   I looked at Preferences etc... and matched everything to be the same but the problem is not fixed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks-
    13CrazyTrain

Aw, c'mon James. Chill it a bit.
Yeah. You continually throw around your little personal jibes, and then if someone calls your bluff, you think you can back out of it with the old "can't you take a joke?" comeback.
In my previous work environment where everyone used Illie, Freehand was a word to be used cautiously – a bit like Macbeth in the theatre.
Well, I didn't work in your previous environment. And FreeHand specifically had nothing to do with this thread until you brought it up. Seems to me it's you who has a FreeHand chip on his shoulder.
I thought you knew my way of expressing myself better...
What, you think I keep a personality registry of regulars here or something? I'll tell you what I don't do: I don't engage in personal insults here. Yet your personal jibes are frequent enough for me to have grown weary of them.
I think I was not dismissing bounding boxes as useless...
Excuse me? "There's absolutely no need to use bounding boxes"?
You are probably right that bounding boxes came with Illie 9.
Probably before that. But I can personally recall that the current-selection bounding box was present in AI9. Unlike some, I try to avoid making claims that I can't immediately substantiate.
I hopped straight from 6 to 9 and that was the first time I had seen them outside of Freewotever.
I'm not familiar with "Freewotever." But if you're again trying to be funny, you are also again revealing your near complete unfamiliarity with it. FreeHand is not the program that continually cluttered the interface with bounding boxes. In fact, for many years that is exactly one of the distractions FreeHand users complained about re Illustrator.
First off, FreeHand's interface doesn't display bounding boxes. It displays only bounding box handles (four dots) on non-basic constructs like clipping paths. (Somewehere around FH 9, it implemented the optional Transform Handles, but that's another thing.) In the cases of rectangles and ellipses, FreeHand doesn't display Bounding Boxes per se. Working in FreeHand has always provided more functionality with much less visual clutter (and tool glut) than Illustrator's defaults.
The difference is that FreeHand has always provided proper live geometric shape primitives--something which Illustrator still doesn't provide, even though it's one of the most basic of all vector drawing interface expectations, being present in just about any vector drawing program on the planet--except Illustrator. That point of confusion is common among those who are experienced only with Illustrator's chronically outdated and archaic interface.
Quite to the contrary, a rectangle drawn in a program that does provide basic live primitives doesn't need a bounding box to perform the bare-bones basic manipulation exemplified, because you can change the aspect ratio of it (and corner radius) anytime you want, regardless of its rotation. You can do this not only in FreeHand, but Canvas, Inkscape, Xara Designer, and even in just about any basic drawing module of just about any "works" or "office" bundle. It's just Illustrator that still fails to provide live shape primitives, and therefore needs a rotated bounding box to provide a very limited subset of such common functionality. You draw a rectangle (or any other geometric primitive) in Illustrator, and all you get is a dumb path. So Illustrator actually needs bounding boxes more than other programs, because of its anemic core funciton set and its hideous user interface.
But of course, someone who is familiar only with Illustrator wouldn't know that. Which is fine...so long as they don't spew derision at programs they know next to nothing about (and users of such programs).
...bearing in mind that I have been at this job since the days of Rotring pens with nosebleeds.
So? I was using Rapidographs and constructing compound rotation in isometric on the board for about a decade before I came to prefer Staedtler pens because I found them less prone to clog. What does that have to do with anything?
Obviously newcomers should be encouraged to use new features, but preferably not before they have grasped the basics thoroughly. How basic bounding boxes are is perhaps a moot point.
Nonsense. Other self-proclaimed "experts" in Illustrator would no doubt argue that bounding boxes were added for the benefit of "beginners." Again, this is not a "new feature." And yes, it is bare-bones basic; just implemented in a half-baked manner in Illustrator.
As for step 3 you are right, but if you turn off the preview you can use the pixels on the paths for alignment,
Egads. That's really grasping at straws, Steve.
    ...Or use bounding boxes.
    Or use bounding boxes.

  • I need help picking a wired router

im tired of bringing my computers modem upstairs everytime i wanna go on xbox live because then when my sis or mom needs to use the internet i have to bring it back downstairs so i wanna have a really good wired router i can keep upstairs in my room so i need help picking one

The reason gaming and wireless don't work is because wireless does not transfer large packets of information which is what gaming uses. The best thing to do if you want wireless is to get a gaming router they will send larger packets of information and they also have dual ban gaming routers which will allow you to set up to where you can connect on one signal and your mom or sister on another it will make it much better for all of you in the long run.

  • I need a mosfet based H bridge circuit for 36V and 4 ampere motor please help me

i want to control a D.C motor by mosfet H bridge the motor is of 36V and about 4 ampere i need a H bridge circuit to operate the motor please help me

    Hi,
Please let me point out one thing: I think the best way to learn is to do it yourself. We are here to answer your technical questions but it's not our responsibility to make the circuit for you. I looked up on the internet and there's a circuit which you can refer to: http://robotechno.us/high-current-h-bridge-with-mosfet.html
Also in Multisim component database, under Electro-Mechanical->Output Devices there are motors you can find to fulfill your design.
If you come across problems in the process of making the circuit, you are more than welcome to post questions here.

  • Really need help (motor control using labview)

    hi all readers,
im new beginner. really need help for my project. i've been assigned to monitor/control motor using labview 8.5 (using NI DAQmx). the problem is, the techinician told me that i cant use 3phase motor with this card. things that i need to displayed using labview is :
    torque
    power
    current
    voltage
    speed
really appreciated if readers can help me with this:
wut type of motor shud i use that compatible with NI DAQmx
    thanks a lot.

    Hi fauziana,
NI data acquisition devices are primarily designed to take measurements, so it's a good idea to measure the signals that you have mentioned with a DAQ device.
You also can use DAQ devices for control tasks, but for reliable and deterministic control behavioryou typically need to use a real-time operating system (not Windows!). If you want to learn more about the pros and cons of using DAQ devices for motion control tasks, please refer to these threads. Still for standard motion control tasks it's much more efficient in terms of development time, to use a dedicated motion control device for the motion control part of your application.
In general the control part is independant from the motor type, as these devices only generate control signals (+/- 10 V). There are many power drives available, that accept this type of control signal and you should select your motor according to the requirements of your application.
For a more detailed system consulting, please contact your local NI branch. To select the products that fit best to your application requirements a face to face discussion is much more efficient than a discussion forum thread, because there are a lot of parameters that need to be taken into consideration. If you tell me in which country you are living, I can provide appropriate contact data to you.
    Thanks and kind regards,

  • Smc emy2 stepper motor problems

    Hi,
I am trying to set up a stepper motor to run with labview 8.2. I am pretty sure that the code I have written should work so I am trying to figure out if I have wired everything correctly, I hope this is the right place for this. I have added the description and manual for the SMC EMY2 stepper motor (page 22 is where I am looking mainly for the wiring, I am using the 5-point Stoppable Type) and manuals for the two NI DAQs I am using, NI9474 for the control singals to the motor and NI9423 for receiving signals from the motor. I am using an external power supply with these that is set to 24V. I have the NI 9474 in slot 5 of the cDAQ-9172 and the NI 9423 in slot 6. I have attached to the power supply cable wires wires as described in the EMY2 manual to the power supply and the motor runs fine when using the attached controller, then I have attached the I/O wires as follows:
Brown - Vsup of the NI 9474
Blue - Com of the NI 9474
Pink - line 0 of the NI 9423
Orange - line 1 of the NI 9423
Yellow - line 2 of the NI 9423
Red - line 3 of the NI 9423
Green - line 4 of the NI 9423
Purple - line 3 of the NI 9474
Gray - line 7 of the NI 9474
    Black - not attached
White - line 2 of the NI 9474
I can get the NI 9474 to output a signal but the stepper motor does not seem to react at all. I had a colleague recommend that I connect the - terminal of the power supply to the ground terminal, is that a good idea. If anyone can think of something to help that would be great and if you need more information just ask and I'll try to get it.
    Thanks.

    Hi rlacroix156,
Looking at page 22 of the stepper manual, it looks like there are two seperate power supplies that are referenced.  Are you using 2 power supplies? Also, have you considered using just one module since you are only using 7 lines?  Then you eliminate the split grounds between the modules.  Which brings me to another point.  The 9474 DIO lines are tied to the power supply ground.  The Blue and Brown lines you mention, are those DC2 or DC1?

  • Stepper motor overheat

    Hi all,
I'm using the legacy motor CTP10xxx10 with motor drive P70530, on page18 the manual says "...If an equivalent heat sink is not used, reduce the default drive current for these motors by 25% to avoid overheating...", I did this by creating a new motor file using the file editor and entered the lower current into the box for "motor current" (the amps peak is auto-calculated). But the amount of heat is still large.
My question is: do I need to modify the "peak torque" below as well? And how?
    Thanks in advance,
    -chen
p.s. After I modified the motor file and performed a "Probe Stepper Motor", an error will show up, so I'm not sure the modification takes effect or not at all. Please any help is appreciated.

First, not all current settings are created equal ... the effective current through the motor may be different from what you selected by driver configuration, depending on the wiring of the motor coils.
Second, what do you call "a large amount of heat"? If the motor feels very warm when touching it with your finger, it probably has not more than 35 ... 40 deg Celsius (we do not use Fahrenheit over here...). Any motor will withstand such a temperature and even somewhat more. Check the manufacturer's data for maximum surface temperature of the motor housing, and measure it with an infrared or contact thermometer.
If the motor is supposed to run with the full amount of current with a heatsink, reducing the current by 25 p.c. probably will result in quite a bit of heat of the motor WITHOUT heatsink. Reducing the current by 25 p.c. is not too much, however if it is specified like that by the manufacturer the motor probably will not be damaged.
