Now getting Google cookies even when "always block" is chosen

Since the last update, I now get Google cookies even when "always block" might be chosen in preferences. I realize I might still get cache under that setting, but I should not get anyone's cookie. I keep fewer than 20 essential cookies and always delete all other cookies I can get from visiting sites.  (would you believe one site I visited dumped over 60 cache and cookies on me just by visiting a single home page?)
Is Google doing evil things and bypassing no cookie preferences yet AGAIN?

But it can be hard to be rid of Google for ever:

  • Third-party websites set cookies even when the "Block Cookies" preference in Safari is set to  default setting "From third parties and advertisers"

Is there a fix for this?

Safari and cookies management needs improvement as noted from the ASC forum search for Safari / Cookies here.
What I'm trying to say is that you would have better luck managing cookies in another browser.

  • Why does Safari still accept cookies, even when I put Block Cookies "Always"

Why does Safari still accept cookies, even when I put Block Cookies "Always",? There are always a list of every website with cookies. Is that just a record of what could've been accepted or its a bogus feature that still accepts regardless of what feature is on?

Apple has rolled over users since OS X 10.6.8 when this issue first appeared.
If you want a browser that actually CARES about it's users, then install Firefox, it's the only one that does.

  • Safari allows 3rd party cookies and all cookies even when prefernces are set to "never allow" with Mac os 10.6.8

safari ALWAYS allows 3rd party cookies and all cookies even when set to "block cookies: always" and "from 3rd party and advertisers."  I have removed the website data, emptied the cache, reset safari, erased the history and it STILL dumps cookies.  (For example, if I go to the usgov weather website only I end up with 11 cookies, the top one being "addthis.com" listed as cashed in local storage.  But didn't I just empty the cache... multiple times??? Is my Safari application "broken" or "corrupt."  Can the application be renewed so that it actually does what it is commanded to do?

    Not using any extensions, Andy.
Allowed a guest account and tested that.  Lots of cache/cookies showed up for my "guest" that on face value, appeared 3rd party:  the familiar "addthis.com" cache and others including a facebook cache and I did not, nor have ever, participated in facebook. But it could be that the "trusted" site my virtual guest visited had a relationship with facebook such that my COMPUTER "friended" facebook even though my guest and I most certainly would have declined the invitation :-)  But what I really don't get is why washington post cookies keep showing up every single time.  Isn't that the absolute definition of 3rd party cookies?!
    forgive my rant.
On the other hand, when I logged out as guest, all data was automatically deleted, and when I relogged in as guest, it appeared that all the data, including cached data, had indeed been deleted.  But when I relogged in as myself, the same old garbage reappeared in the cache and cookie bin. The fact is, there appears to be no such thing as truly and completely emptying ones cache, resetting ones browser, or deleting ones cookies. They are here to stay.
(And, oh yes, I have tried logging out, turning off and on the computer right after performing emptying tasks, etc.)

Anyone have the problem I'm having with the Safari collecting cookies even when I'm not on a website?  I cleaned everything out and checked several times.  Each time cookies were added that I've never seen with my older version of Safari.  I have the block third parties and advertisers but I don't think it works.  Here's a sample of what is popping up:  247realmedia.com, 2mdn.net addthis.com, admeld.com, adsafeprotected.com, adsonar.com, bit.ly, bluekai.com, bluelithium.com, bluetoad.com bondware.com.......... over 100 things without a clue where they are coming from.  Especially since I'm not on any webpage!  How do I report a bug?  Is there a way to fix this?

Firefox + NoScript, BetterPrivacy, Ghostery, AdBlock Plus, Click&Clean helps.

HTML 5 has introduced a whole new range of tracking ability, you can search for the details online.
Flash cookie, everycookie, HTML cookies. Google has trackers all over the internet, they record your computer info and all your searches, ISP's record all your IP traffic and keep it for a year, cell carriers track your location via tower and signal triangulation (even non-GPS/smartphones) and keep the results for 6 months and both turn over everything to governments. In fact Uncle Sammy has NSA backrooms on the Internet backbone capturing the traffic in real time.

You can't win, the government, advertisers, social sites, search engines and devices makers are all in cohoots to profile everyone.
Live off the grid and have your freedom or tell everyone your business and let them mold you, there is no "in between", try as you may they just come up with new stuff to watch you, through your web cam, via the hidden microphone and even can turn on some cell phones microphones too.

I am using Lightroom 5.7, 64 bit with Windows 7 Professional. For no apparent reason, I now get an error message when I export a photo, say a raw image to a JPG. However, the exported image seems to be OK. But now I notice that my LR directory of folders in Library view does not show images correctly: If there is a folder with sub-folder(s), the folder will indicate 0 images, but the sub-folders show the proper number of images. What happened and is there a fix? I tried uninstalling Lightroom and re-installing, but problem persists.
Here is a screen shot of the error message:

  • I still get cookies even when I select "never" under preferences, why?

Using Safari, when I select "never" under preferences, I still recieve many cookies. I understand that if I am signed in to yahoo for example, the cookie will be replaced. However, if I am not signed in, but just connected to the net, I still get these cookies.
If anybody can give me a little insight, that would be just great
    Thanks

Many sites have come up with all sorts of ways around the cookie blocks in web browsers, tricks such as Flash cookies, "evercookies" and others. Those can be saved on your system even if you have a browser set to supposedly to block cookies. As with spam and junkmail-filter developers, it's sort of a war between the web sites and the people developing cookie blocks/filters. And note that you don't need to be signed into a site to get a cookie; all you need do is load any web page from the site and it may attempt to put one or more cookies on your browser.
You may want to look into a more sophisticated cookie cleaner from a third-party developer. I use Cookies from SweetP Productions and it seems to clean out unwanted cookies quite well, but there are other similar products available.

  • Cannot install new adobe flash player, download tells me to turn firefox off, i can't figure out how to do this. i get this message even when i try from your request to upload new program. karen miller

please help i found some info but it's too high tech for me to understand example go taskmaster>processes tab exit firefox.exe. can't even figure out where this is! if firefox is going to control upgrades then there should be a less frustrating way to achieve this!!! please advise my next step is uninstall firefox & use another internet program.

Firefox must not be open when the Flash installer is run. Use the following information and instructions.....
There are 2 versions of Adobe Flash:
*an '''ActiveX version''' for IE only
*a '''Plugin version''' for most other browsers including Firefox
*On a Windows system, you should always update both individually.
'''''You do not appear to have the Plugin version for Firefox installed. ''''' If you did, in Add-ons > Plugins you would see "Shockwave Flash ''(version)''". If "Shockwave Flash" is there and is disabled, click the "Enable" button.
Check your Plugins often --> http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
*only the most popular/used Plugins are known by this page
*page will detect only installed, '''''enabled''''' Plugins
    '''<u>Install or update Adobe Flash</u>'''<br />
#'''<u>Using Firefox</u>''', go to the following link and SAVE the download to your desktop so you can find it later. Un-check any items on that page that you do not want to download (i.e., "McAfee Security Scan Plus":
#When the download is finished, close Firefox (File > Exit '''''OR''''' Firefox button > Exit)
#Click or double-click on the file you just saved to your desktop
#*In the installation window that appears, click the box to the left of "I have read and...." to place a check mark in the box
#*The "Install" button in the lower right corner will now be highlighted, click it.
    #*The installation is quick.
#Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
#To update/install the ActiveX version for IE '''''only''''', repeat the process, '''<u>but use IE to go to the above website</u>'''.
'''If this reply solves your problem, please click "Solved It" next to this reply when <u>signed-in</u> to the forum.'''

  • Continue to get update dialog even when I have the latest version

I have been on the beta program for quite some time. Over the latest updates (probably at least since FF 4), I get a dialog box when I start FF telling me that an update is available even though I have the latest version. If I select the option to go ahead and do the update. It will hang forever; and not connect to the update server. I have reviewed several articles on this subject including this one [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update#Software_Update_not_working_properly http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update#Software_Update_not_working_properly] . I have done an extensive search through my directories and cannot find an update folder, an update.xml, or active-update.xml file in any location, especially in the C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox directory or in the install directory. I have even attempted doing a clean install by uninstalling and completely removing the install directory. None of this has worked. I have noted in my search that others seem to have this problem as well. Additionally, I have this problem on both my work and home computers that are running Windows 7. However, I don't have this issue on my Mac. This is an annoyance; but has been going on for way too long and really needs to be addressed.

Your heading says Adobe Reader and the explanation below says Adobe Flash. Neither of these is shown in your System Details under Plug-ins. Is this the actual computer the question is about?
Incidentally, Firefox and Google Chrome are web browsers and not search engines. Google, Bing and Yahoo, for example are search engines.

  • Keep getting kernel panic even when everything is updated

My MacPro keeps having kernel panic (4x in a week, then none in almost 2 weeks, then comes back again today) even when everything is updated. And I recognize that I always get the kernel panic only when I visit this one website where I usually go to stream an online movie. What could be wrong with my Mac? Is there a way to stop and/or prevent future kernel panic attack?

    Safe Mode
Starting up into Safe Mode does several things:
It forces a directory check of the startup volume.
It loads only required kernel extensions (some of the items in /System/Library/Extensions).
In Mac OS X v10.3.9 or earlier, Safe Mode runs only Apple-installed startup items (such items may be installed either in /Library/StartupItems or in /System/Library/StartupItems; these are different than user-selected account login items).
It disables all fonts other than those in /System/Library/Fonts (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
It moves to the Trash all font caches normally stored in /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/(uid)/ , where (uid) is a user ID number such as 501 (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
It disables all startup items and login items (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
Mac OS X v10.5.6 or later: A Safe Boot deletes the dynamic loader shared cache at (/var/db/dyld/). A cache with issues may cause a blue screen on startup, particularly after a Software Update. Restarting normally recreates this cache.
Taken together, these changes can help resolve software or directory issues that may exist on the startup volume.
    Try Repair Disk.

  • How do I make sure my Mac doesn't have Google cookies even after utilizing Firefox preference tools?

Last week for a short time Firefox was requiring me to enable third party cookies when visiting sites that previously didn't require 3rd party cookies. I contacted the sites and they never required 3rd party cookies to be enabled. I did detect and delete a Google cookie through Firefox preference/privacy routines.
Was there an interim release that fixed this in Firefox since I'm not required to enable 3rd party cookies? Can I be confident that I don't have undetected Google cookies in my Mac?
    Thanks,
    Tim S.

Google made some changes to their website last week, which were reverted a few days later.

  • IPhone 5S now shutting off display, even when apps are running?

    Hi guys,
I've had my iPhone 5S since it released (and a 4S before that since its release), and just today I noticed that my iPhone 5S is automatically shutting off its screen after a handful of minutes when plugged in and charging.
My iPhones have never done this before. I have an alarm clock app, and leave that running 100% of the time when my phone is plugged in since it shows a clock on the display, and I prefer that to a blank, powered-off screen. However, just this morning I noticed that it shut off overnight (never did that before), and now -- even when I'm watching it to see if anything happens, it shuts off.
Something weird did happen this morning though: when my phone alarm woke me up, I noticed my phone was just randomly loading apps, regardless of my input. I shut it off and turned it on again, and then it stopped doing that. This likely has something to do with the new phone display issue.
I can't find a specific setting on the phone or anything that would cause it to do this. Any ideas? I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi, no idea what you tried, but...
Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem  & the Wakeup/Startup right after that for clues.

  • Daughter given me her iPad, iMessage has her ID which is her email add. If I delete it it will delete her ID on all her other Apple pads etc. I now get her messages and when sending my messages to her I get them too. Please help

So I now have my daughter's ipad. I have changed it to my ID but in iMessage it needs me to delete hers and then a warning that all her
Apple ID's will be deleted ( Macbook, iPad, iPhone, etc).  As her ID is her email this is a problem. She also uses her email for business.
When sending iMessage I get it back to me and she also gets my messages and I get hers as well.
Even though Ive changed the Apple ID it does not seem to pick it up on iMessage. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I had the same issue with my iPad and my husband's.  I THINK it was caused when I activated his new iPad with his new apple I'd while signed in in my iTunes account.  Anyway, somehow the database got all screwed up.  My I'd, his password, his birthday day month and day but my year.....  Big issue.  Also I had a lot of paid apps I didn't want to lose.
Tried iTunes support with no response from them for 3 days.  I finally went to the Apple store and the guy there was able to get on a chat with someone who had access to the database and could see all the data and changes.  It took about an hour of changes to get it straight.  I told the store employee I had considered just creating a née I'd etc. And after all we found that would have made matters worse.
I suggest you make an appt and go in and have them fix it correctly.  Having worked in IT and with databases for 25 years or so I can say this is a bug in their system.  Obviously they never created a use case for this type of customer screwup.  The motto of any business analyst is "if the customer CAN screw it up they will".  The store employee said he had run into this 3 times last week but that mine was the most complicated.
    Good luck.

  • I had to boot my iMAC and now the FF 'cookies' folder is always always empty. How can I undo this? TNX

My iMAC had the 'twirling circle' and I had to restart my Mac.
After that, when I went to FireFox, (Preference -> show cookies), the show cookies (with the delete cookies option) comes up - but had no cookies listed.
I KNOW hotmail won't work with out them and yet even in hotmail the cookies 'page' is blank.
I did another 'restart' but the cookies 'page' stays blank.
My concern is malware or virus.
    Thanks for your help.

It is possible that the <i>cookies.sqlite</i> file that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) <b>cookies.sqlite</b> (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like <b>cookies.sqlite-journal</b> in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.
