Now here is the story: gmail vs iCloud

There must be a way to manage the following problem (Dell W7 top of the range, iPhone 4S 16 and iPad 2 64:
1. I imported all my Outlook contacts to Google contact, mainly to be able to get rid of duplicates and merge mail accounts that were double but with different content and because I do not want to synch to Outlook.
2.. I synched the iPhone 4S (iOS5) from iTunes but before this I deleted my mail iCloud contacts on the phone
3. The synch went seamless it seems and I got under the contact app the following on the iPhone: 'All Contacts', 'Exchange contacts' and Exchange Global Address list'
4 So far fine
5. Then I turned on the iCloud contact and get further to 'All iCloud' several subgroups that were created on an iPhone 3G with Outlook years ago and I have no more use for these groups. How the heck can I get grid of these sub groups that drives me up the wall. I don't want them and I created them in Outlook years ago.
BTW my main mail account is gmail set up as IMAP with push, I have other accounts set up as normal POP accounts and no push of course.
Anyone have a solution to my problem, is there anyway we can access iCloud to make the manual changes?
Help would be appreciated.

Nice of you to jump in after I have had the audacity to complain about not getting any response to my original post, that was quick indeed, no wonder that you are at Level 6 and I am at zero..
Now, if you had had an answer to my question and problem it would have been nice to share that with me and all the other users rather than complaining about such a bad person I am, and provide the solution at the time of my original post.
But since I am not such a bad person as you claim I will give you the simple answer to the problem (that should be obvious to you as a power user), all I had to do was to log onto www.icloud.com, sign in and make the changes there and also get rid of all the old groups that I had  made in the old Outlook while on my first iPhone 3. Simple, yes, but it took me hours to figure it out.
So simple that I thought that you power users did not even consider that an answer to a novice like me was even warranted.
Have a nice day and be well :-)

  • So... here's the story

So... here's the story. I currently have a mini mac and am looking to buy a mac pro.
But, should I just go out and buy one now, or should I wait till leopard comes out? (which I think is in oct-nov)
    Should I wait?
Is there a big difference between tiger and leopard?
When leopard comes out, I asume the mac pro won't change but the price will go up?
If I go and buy one now, can I later upgrade to leopard when it comes out? (how much would it cost me?)
    Thanks Guys and Gals

    Should I wait?
Based on Leopard alone… no. If you're waiting for a hardware update or the like then that answer might well be different depending on circumstances but even still, it's normally no.
When leopard comes out, I asume the mac pro won't change but the price will go up?
No. When Leopard is released all Mac prices will remain the same with the only difference being hat it will then come with Leopard, just like PCs now come with Vista as the same price.
If I go and buy one now, can I later upgrade to leopard when it comes out? (how much would it cost me?)
Yes you can upgrade to Loepard (after its release of course) when you like, just like the rest of us. The cost is the same as it has been for quite some time, $US129 (or the UK Pound Sterling price plus VAT as you would pay).
Ultimately, what you need to do is decide what you gain by waiting along with what you lose by waiting. To me, having the power of a Mac Pro over a Mac mini, even if it's an Intel model, for 4 months from now until October is worth the price of the Leopard upgrade on its own.
Additionally, depending on your experience with largers systems like the MP the time from now can really help you get your house in order before jumping into Leopard. There's quite a bit to mull over when it comes to 4 drive bays (and all you can do with that) and 8 RAM slots not to mention Boot Camp thrown in.

My iPhone 3Gs randomly shutting off at any given moment. I could be in the middle of a text, a call, or doing some games and it'll just shut off.
Now here's the unique part. When I go to turn it back on, the apple loading screen pops up but it takes somewhere from 3-5 minutes for it to boot up. Then the lock screen with the time and whatnot shows up. From this point on, my iPhone has a chance to shut itself back down and I have to repeat the process over and over again. Most of the time the lock screen flashes and then goes straight to black (shut down) but sometimes I can make it a few menus before it shuts itself down.
The only way to keep the iPhone on is to plug it into a charger of any sort. I'm fairly certain it isn't a battery charge issue because this happens at any % of power and sometimes my iPhone can use up all of its charge and not have this happen while other times I can be at 90-100% and it could randomly shut itself down. What can I do in this situation if some has some solution to this problem please let me know on [email protected] Thanks!

Not sure if this Term is Relevant towards an iPhone but, my iPhone won't Post unless if it's plugged into a Charger.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I was given an iphone 4s by my sister as she got a new one, now i want to clear it so that i can set it up with my own details, if i erase all content and settings will this affect anything on her new iphone as it is synced to the same gmail account

her contacts are connected directly with the Google Server so as long as they are saved to her Gmail account she should be 100% fine.. the only contacts she may lose are the ones that she added directly onto the phone and did not sync to her Gmail account.. so you should just double check with her on that

    Hello Martin,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iCloud account on your Mac.  I recommend signing out of iCloud first:
On your Mac, open iCloud preferences, then click Sign Out.
    iCloud: Change iCloud feature settings

If you are still being prompted for your password, I recommend the steps in the following article (this article refers to an iOS device, but the steps are still relevant for your Mac as well):
iOS 7: If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud

I am having trouble with my Apple ID and AppStore
Here are the steps I have taken and the results:
Changed my Apple ID with new email address.
Changed my iCloud with above new email address.
NOW - Apple ID appears correct in AppStore Settings, iCloud and AppStore*
If I scroll to bottom of screen in *App Store/Featured, I can see that the Apple ID is my new email.
Upon “updating” Apple ID reflects OLD email.
    Deleted accounts, re-added accounts.
Signed out and signed in with new UN/Email
    Issue remains the same.

To migrate your data to a new iCloud account go to Settings>iCloud and turn off all synced data (contacts, calendars, etc.), when prompted choose to keep the data on your phone.  After everything is set to off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  Next, create the new iCloud account on your phone and turn on syncing for contacts, calendars, etc again.  If prompted, choose Merge.  This will upload your data to the new iCloud account.

  • HT4528 My wife had a problem with her iPhone 5C with no voice on th Maps app.  I visited my local Apple store and they said the problem was in iCloud.  We did a new install and it works great now.  Now my iPhone 5 has the same problem.

My wife had a problem with her iPhone 5C with no voice on the Maps app.  I visited my local Apple store and they said the problem was in iCloud.  We did a new install and it works great now.  Now 4 days later my iPhone 5 that is tied to the same iCloud has the same problem with the Maps app.  I really don't want to go through a new set-up with my iPhone 5.  What's going on with iCloud?

I had major issues with the iPhone 4s battery, however it’s resolved.
The tech who set the phone up at the Apple store did so with little training.
if you have a mobile me account. First go and move all your data to the cloud by going on your computer and logging in at me.com/move. The cloud has replaced mobile me, so there is no need for those two accounts
Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.
turning of locator and the push notifications from facebook--they have a lot!

  • My iphone was stolen. I blocked it on icloud. I bought a new one. Now I need the contacts from the stolen one that is now blocked. Can I get it?

    a

If the contacts on the old phone were synced to a mail account or iCloud account, then they will be easy to recover.  Just sign into your iCloud account on the new phone (Settings > iCloud) and then enable the 'Contacts' option.  If the contacts were stored in your iCloud account, they will now appear on the phone.
If the contacts were stored in a mail account such as Gmail, Yahoo, etc, then add that mail account to the phone in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account.  Then make sure the 'Contacts' option is enabled here as well.
If that still doesn't work you may need to try to recover them from an iCloud or iTunes backup of the old phone -- do you have one of those?
