Now, my iMac doesn't display the Mac App Store properly! What's up, Apple?

Okay, I mentioned that my MBP was not displaying the Mac App Store properly... now its my iMac! Stupid blue boxes and unloaded tiles are the problem. Before anyone asks, my Internet connection works well. Anybody else having this problem (see photo)? What's up, Apple?! I'm tired of reloading the page and crossing my fingers. Fix your junky software!
Oh, when you added OS updates to the App Store, that's when problems started. Thanks, Apple!

Well, there's nothing wrong with my ISP or strength of my wi-fi signal. As you can see from the enclosed photo, the signal is very strong at the top of the UI. The picture was taken several minutes AFTER waking from sleep mode and after a page reloading (the Mac App Store actually displayed more icons, prior to the refresh). Additionally, the Mac App Store is slow as heck to load. I don't have any of these problems with any other Internet connected application, including the App Store on my iPad 2! All of the problems are localized around the Mac App Store. Ironically, the app store on my Windows 8 Pro virtual machine runs without a hitch!
Mac App Store icons don't always load correctly w/ strong wi-fi signal
No problem with the Windows 8 store running on a virtual machine using Parallels Desktop 8 (see, no ISP issues!)

Just a reminder... this happens to BOTH of my Macs (MBP & iMac)! My PC, Ubuntu, and Chromium virtual machines run Internet-connected applications without a problem. I hate the Mac App store!

I can't download anything on the Mac App store. It says This Apple ID cannot be used for the Mac App Store.

I went into settings, iTunes & App Store and tapped on my appleID, then signed out. I went back into the App Store on my phone and tried to download the app and then signed in again, and it worked!

  • The Mac App Store Discussion, what is it for?

The Mac App Store, a feature once only available to iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch users, now is available for those who are able to load 10.6.6 on their Intel Macs. The link below shows which Macs are compatible with it:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2126451
Now while this board does have a Discussions forum for the App Store:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1432&start=0
It is not a place to:
    1. Contact the developers of the said App, although some may look on it to see what people are saying.
    2. Contact Apple. For that, there are these two links:
    http://www.apple.com/contact/

    3. Complain about the price of a program.
    4. Complain about the availability of the store in prior operating system updates.
    5. Complain about the setup of 10.6.6 or later to get access to the Apple Store.
    6. Complain about the compatibility of an application you bought from the store.
You can though enquire how users fixed issues of installation. Remember this is only a user to user board with moderators who help there be a lively discussion following the rules you agreed to when you signed up under the link for Help & Terms of Use.
You can though enquire how to contact developers if that was not made clear in the store.
You can enquire if users have found ways to make specific applications work.
You can certainly enquire how to prepare your machine for 10.6.6 to avoid issues of upgrading.
Note, this is just a user to user forum with people vollunteering who have technical knowledge which may differ from yours.
So don't panic and have fun!

  • How does the Mac App Store detect what it believes to be installed?

I had a trial for Transmit on my machine prior to purchasing it on MAS.
Despite the fact I have it showing as purchased in the App Store app, I can't install it as it also believes it to be installed. Searching for files containing the name Transmit returns no results anywhere on my drive.
The trial copy is gone now, I removed the plists and other stuff too in the hope MAS would detect its absence, it doesn't.
Any tips/pointers on how I can install my software? I spoke to Panic directly, they're insistent the fault lies with Apple.
    TIA :-)

What version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard is installed on your Mac? You are describing misbehavior of the MAS that was in the first version that was installed with Mac OS X 10.6.6. The misbehavior of listing apps as installed that were not acquired through the MAS was corrected with the MAS installed by 10.6.7. We now are at 10.6.8 with the newest version of the MAS.

  • Can I move images edited with the trial version to the version from the Mac App Store?

I have been using the trial version of Aperture to determine if I like it. I am now ready to buy Aperture from the Mac App Store. Will my edited images be moved over to the licensed version automatically or what do I need to do to not loose my edits?
    Thanks for your help.
    Bob

You will be able to open the trial library in the purchased application even if it doesn't happen automatically.

  • Why is the Mac App Store part of the OS?

After reading about issues a lot of people are having with the 10.6.6 update, I think I'll pass on it. I don't understand why Apple made the Mac App Store part of the system software. Why couldn't it be in iTunes like the iTunes & App store? Is Apple acting like Microsoft and pushing stuff on us that we may not want as part of the OS?

There is something wrong with this. I hate when someone is pulling a fast one and think they are getting away with it.
What specifically do you believe Apple is getting away with? Basically, Apple is extending the same OS-level features to third party developers that in the past it has reserved for its own apps, including one-click download, security checks, & installation. Moreover, the terms & conditions of use are readily available, as is the same Help topic support as with any other Apple app -- all you have to do is read it.
Sure, you have to buy many of the apps in the Mac App Store, but what is slimy about that? Doesn't the word "Store" tell you that?
Does anyone know where to search for all those great applications now, or is getting a new OS the only answer.
Try a Google search on "Mac apps," or any of the related searches found at the bottom of the search results page.
And at least for now, http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/ still works in the same way it always has.

  • Will iTunes U ever be an App from the Mac App Store?

Will iTunes U ever be an App from the Mac App Store?

    Absolutely
Another infuriating Apple dogma, especially for anybody using a 'magic trackpad': you can do pretty much everything you can do on an iPad, only faster and with a higher definition screen!
Isn't it totally crazy that I haven't purchased a single iBook because Kindle provides me a good reading platform on my MacBook Air but Apple doesn't ???!!!

  • AIR apps on the Mac App Store

    Hi,
We have an AIR application that we'd love to release on the Mac App Store. However, due to Apple's strict guidelines on installers, it seems that AIR apps would not be allowed. We we need is something in the vein of the Flash Packager for iPhone, except for desktop AIR apps. Does anyone know if this is in Adobe's current plans? I'd like to be able to consider other alternatives such as Shu which package the framework and AIR file into an app bundle. But I understand that this is prohibited by the AIR distribution license. Any insight or suggestions much appreciated!

    William,
I got past the "Unable to build valid certificate chain for the signer" by installing the "Apple Root CA" with Keychain Access, importing my private key .p12 file, exported from Keychain Access, into Firefox and then exporting (Backup...) it back out. I think that caused the final .p12 file to contain the whole certificate chain.
Unfortunatly, I now get the error "Packaging failed. Make sure your computer time is in sync and your certificate is valid" when trying to build my bundle using adt.

  • Why doesn't Mac App Store does not recognize my apple ID?

The Mac App Store is not recognizing my apple ID.  Please help.

It works on my iphone.  It works for this forum.  It works for itunes.  It works for everything EXCEPT the Mac App Store, for which I've already used it to purchase apps that now need updating.  It just keeps saying "an unknown error has occurred" Grrr...

  • I reinstalled tiger on one iMac, but want to re-upgragde it to Lion.  I don't have the discs anymore, but I installed Lion from the Mac App Store.  Now that I'm back to 10.4, I don't have the App Store.  I have a new iMac with Mavericks, but it won't let

I have a 2006 iMac that I've upgraded to each new os as they came out.  I just wiped it (for the kids to use, I have a new iMac with Mavericks) and reintalled Tiger from the original discs.  I want to get it back to Lion - which I purchased from the Mac App Store.  But Tiger doesn't have the App Store and I don't have the discs anymore from the intermediate versions.  I tried downloading Lion from the new iMac but it's not available...
    Any ideas?

To get to the App Store, you need to upgrade the Tiger machine to Snow Leopard.

  • I can't find the mac app store on my imac. i am running snow leopard, and i have run "update software" several times. what's up?

I am trying to upgrade to Lion. I need to go through Mac App store to buy it. I need to get the Mac App store icon in my dock. I have run Update Software several times, trying to get the Mac App store onto my iMac, but with no luck. It doesn't show up in the dock, it doesn't show up in Finder under Applications, and it doesn't show up when I search in Searchlight for App Store, Store, Mac App Store, etc. What am I doing wrong?

    I am running snow leopard
    James....
You arne't necessarily doing anything wrong.
Install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
That should reinstall the App Store for you.
Restart your Mac after the combo is finished installing.
You should see the App Store icon in the Dock and be able to access from your Apple menu also.
Make sure your Mac meet's Lion's requirements

  • Everytime i try to open the mac app store it doesn't connect

I've just downloaded the new ios x software mountain lion. I am trying to get a few new apps from the mac app store. However everytime I open the mac app store application it dooesn't start and the error. "cannot connect to the mac app store" appears. Does this have anything to do with Apple currently updating the system or is there really a problem. If there is then can somebody help me out getting it working.

I had found this when I had the same problem:
Close the App Store (make sure to Quit)
Open Keychain Access from the Applications > Utilities folder
Click on System Roots on the upper left panel
Click on Certificates from the lower left panel
Scan through the list of certificates on the right and look for any with a blue “+” symbol overlaid on the icon (these have custom trust settings, which might be wrong).
For some reason just setting them to Use System Defaults doesn’t make the settings apply, so repeat the following steps for all certificates with the blue “+”
Double Click on the certificate to show the info panel
Click on the triangle next to Trust to reveal the Trust settings
Change the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) setting to No Values Specified
Close the info panel, you should be prompted for the administrators password.
Double Clock on the same certificate again
    Expand the Trust settings
Change the When using this certificate setting to Use System Defaults
Close the info panel, and again enter the administrators password.
Repeat this for all of the certificates with the blue “+”
When done, restart the App Store and see if you can access Updates.

looking fro help to get new version of itunes downloaded on imac that is running snow leopard and trying to update to lion but cannot find the mac app store.

App Store is an application in Applications folder on your hard disk.
But what error do you get, when trying to update iTunes? That should be possible in Snow Leopard too!

Pages 4.3 should still be in an iWorks folder within your Applications folder.
