Now running OSX 10.8.2 and can't connect to my Color LaserJet 5500n

Just bought a new Mac Mini to replace my older one, and now have OSX 10.8.2. When I try to print to my Color LaserJet 5500n, I get a message when it tries to setup the printer that it is "unable to download software from the server at this time". When I tried to download the driver myself, the HP site said it comes pre-installed with my OS. I can get on the internet (obviously - here I am!), so it seems to me that my computer should be able to download whatever it needs, but...
Any ideas on what's going on?!

Have you tried it again since then? It just sounds like the server was temporarily having issues.
Also, your printer is an Enterprise/Business model. I would recommend posting this in the HP Enterprise Support Forums for better coverage.

    Why do you want to delete those?  What have you done so far to do that?
    I doubt that Mac has a virus.  On the other hand, your attempts to deleted those folders may have caused corruption.
    Two other comments:
    1) Is there a reason that Mac hasn't been updated to OS X 10.5.8?
    2) You've been misled by the poor field labeling on this Web site into trying to type your entire post into the "subject" field.  In the future, just put a short summary of your post into that field.

    Not having enough space on your hard drive is a problem in itself, OS X likes 10-20% free in order to operate smoothly. Right click on your hard drive icon and choose Get Info to see how much you have free. There are several free applications that will help you identify what is taking up so much space just Google it.     Hi rbcjoker76, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    Sounds like some needed System Fonts wre replaced by bad ones. Y also have Font Book in Applications for validating fonts & checking for duplicates.
    Required Fonts from 10.3, much the same in 10.4...

    then intall the Fonts what you need from your Install Disk.
    Or do a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...

    Try this:
    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins
    Trash the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files
    Empty the trash
    Relaunch Safari. You can now download undamaged PDFs.

    Sorry I couldn't figure out how to create a link. While this isn't an officially supported Mozilla product it seems to be very stable & keeps up with the updates to the official Firefox fairly well as they come out.

    Not those whole folders, but their contents, maybe.
    If the user account now on the Mac has read rights to the user account(s) on the backups, yes.  If not, you may have to do some finagling. 
    Try the Browse Other Backup Disks option, per Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #17.  If you find an account that can open those folders, restore what you want to an alternate location (#16 in the FAQ).
    If not try creating one or more accounts temporarily.

    I had never turned my iMac off so I still don't understand why the download paused, & when I looked in my Applications folder there was no Mountain Lion, but your words, "However, you can pause and resume the download as many times as you want"  encouraged me to look deeper & try harder!!  I clicked & double-clicked (& multi-clicked!) the Mtn Lion icon in my dock to no avail but finally, I clicked & HELD the click for about 7 seconds . . . . . . . & then a little pop-up came & asked me if I want to "Resume the download" or stop it!! So I slid the cursor over to "Resume..." & it's downloading again!! ~~I HOPE!!  I guess 4.4 GB of OS update will take more than a little time to get in there!
    ~~~Again, THANK YOU so MUCH & God less you with a WONDERFUL time with your studies & future dreams!!!

    Yes, I have the tethering plan.  I was connected with USB and Bluetooth when I had the 3G.
    I am can now connect with USB, I recieved a new not seen before window when I plugged in the phone with the Network window open that allowed me to click on apply an connect.

    Unfortunately, Safari cannot be updated past 5.1.10 on a Mac running v10.6.8.
    So, the options are to upgrade to a newer OS X or use Firefox or  Chrome.

    See if your Mac can run v10.9 Mavericks >  OS X Mavericks: System Requirements

    To sync an iOS 7 device you need to be running iTunes 11.1.1; iTunes 10.6 is way too old and won't work. You need to install iTunes 11.1.1, but to do that you need to be running at least Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    So you need to do the following:
    1. Upgrade your Mac to at least OS X 10.6.8 (later preferably, but 10.6.8 at the miniumum).
        a. Check first to see if your model Mac can be upgraded, check that it has enough RAM and so forth (2GB at the least, more if possible).
        b. If you can't upgrade your Mac, or don't want to, then you will have to buy a new Mac with the latest version of OS X (currently 10.8.5, soon to become 10.9) and iTunes 11.1.1
    2. Install iTunes 11.1.1 on your newly upgraded Mac.
    3. Sync your iOS 7 iPhone with iTunes.

    Congratulations on your new iPhone!  You can sync information to your iPhone from your MacBook Pro using the Info tab in iTunes when your iPhone is connected.  Use the steps in the following article:

    Why would that be irritating?? I suspect you are after Mavericks, in order to get Mavericks you have to have the Mac App Store app which did not become available until Snow Loepard 10.6.6. Once you have purchased and installed SL then install the 10.6.8 combo update, run Software Update again and install all suggested updates and finally you can get Mavericks.
